    I must have watched 10 useless videos before I found yours. Used my inflatable wedge and too a rod, heat up the end and bent it and did exactly what you did and popped it open. My problem wasn’t a broken cable, it was bone dry and just needed lube. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this bud. 😁

    Freakin' AWESOME!! My wife's 2013 Suburban wouldn't open from the inside or outside. She got home last night and had to crawl over the console to get out on the passenger side. Watched your video this morning, made a tool and popped her right open. Happy camper!! Also I want to add that for my wedge I used " window shims ". They're soft wood and available at almost any building supply. They won't scratch anything and they're really cheap. You get a whole pack for a couple of bucks. @@ZONES89RS Timing was perfect for me, just had it happen this last weekend. Yes the big storm we got froze it solid, and I assume the switch on the outside rod handle got stuck either middle, or up or down.
      Could not open door from out or in, was about to start taking the door apart from the inside when I found your video. instead grabbed a hanger and some pliers, made the rod you had with the 90 at the end, then went fishing from the drivers seat. awkward angles and being a giant fat guy in a huge winter coat made it harder but we got it handled. I'm an automotive only locksmith and have opened many vehicles like this. I have never needed the window down and actually think it's easier with the window up. I was doing this with down the door lights, wedges and rods similar to the one you made. Well now we have cheap borescopes it's even easier. I get them from the outside with the window up. We run between 100 to 150 calls per week so there isn't much I haven't seen in 40 years of doing this.

    • @tylermcconnell2222
      @tylermcconnell2222 6 месяцев назад

      So I fixed my issue, but I'm curious if you've ever seen what happened to me.
      I pried the door panel open and watched all the mechanisms function properly. The lock, inside handle, and outside handle all moved their lever arms correctly and even made the right clicking sounds.
      Anyways the door refused to open after hours of monkeying around with it. I took the seat out and ripped off the door panel. Reached in to disconnect the linkage for the outside door handle, pulled the inside handle and it opened.
      I reconnected the outside handle linkage and everything works fine and dandy now... it makes no sense to me

    • @scotts4125
      @scotts4125 6 месяцев назад

      @@tylermcconnell2222 Yes I have seen this. Sometimes one of the linkages is partially activated and it won't let the door open. Sort of stuck in a middle position. I would also keep an eye on the latch. It could be on it's way out. There isn't much with door issues I haven't seen. Some newer cars with dead batteries won't even unlock with a key. They aren't stuck as we unlock them with a tool but it's nuts they have "emergency" key inside fobs but if the battery is dead they won't unlock. We get these calls everyday.

    • @tylermcconnell2222
      @tylermcconnell2222 6 месяцев назад

      I've heard nightmare stories of cars not unlocking with a dead battery and you can't get under the hood to charge it because you need to get inside the car to pop the hood... lol. it amazes me how ignorant engineers can be.
      But thanks for the reply, I think you're right about the linkage being partially engaged, that makes sense. But I might consider replacing the latch since that's also a possibility. I lubed it up in the mean time so hopefully no more problems.

  • @picklemetimbers3003
    @picklemetimbers3003 Год назад

    I'm one of those poor bastards. Window is stuck up. You can remove all the bolts holding the inner door plastics on while the door is closed. Then pull up and shimmy back and forth. You can get the panel off near the top and bend it backwards. When you do you can see the inside of the handle where the cable is. I used a pair of needle nose vice grips, clamped the cable and pulled to unlatch the door. My cable was fine but the plastic housing where the cable goes into has a few of the plastic rivets broke off. When you would use the handle it would just flex the plastic, not putting enough tension on the cable. I just superglued that shit together. If it breaks again ill look into junkyard parts or just drill a hole, pull the cable through and be ghetto. Its an 07 work truck with 130k miles on it. Gonna drive this thing until it explodes.

    Love the video brother, but please let me clarify my situation. The auto lock goes up and down perfectly. The outside or inside handles will not open the door. If I am understanding correctly, I basically need a slim jim just for the lock? Nothing is wrong with either the inside or outside door handles?

    • @ZONES89RS
      @ZONES89RS  2 месяца назад +2

      This is when inner or outer handles won’t work. There is a cable that can break. In my instance it didn’t break all the way but still stretched out stopping me from using the handles. The locks will engage and disengage as they operate separate from the location where the cable ties in to the locking mechanism itself.
      I really wish I had the door apart when I did the video to show a more clear idea of what all is going on.
      Your door won’t open at all?
      A slim Jim will probably work. A thin rod definitely did the job. The thickness of a old car antenna works

      @@ZONES89RS I managed to get the extended cab door panel off and backed off the bolts going into the nut plate. Then had to cut the bolts because they were too long for the door to open. Once I had the door open the striker was stuck in the actuator. I pulled in the cable but it was frayed. Once I removed the cable I was able to use the outside handle to open it and remove the striker. My guess is that the cable was frayed internally and was putting just enough pull on the mechanism and was stuck in a in between state. $10 Amazon cable fixed me right up and I didn't have to break any of the door panels. Just a few clips went bad. Thanks for the inspiration to get this done.

      @@ZONES89RS Now that I think about it, I probably didnt need to cut the bolts. I could have disconnected the safety catch from the extended door lever and opened the extended door. But it's done and I bought new bolts. Working like new again. Hope this helps someone else. Thanks for your video.

    Tried this on the rear door and it must be different than the front because it’s not working.

      Generally it is the same design I believe. The latch mechanism has a tab that goes downward to open the door like the fronts do. Just swapped rear latch on my latest 08 truck.

    Here is a solution. My door was stuck shut. Where the inside door handle cable meets the actuator it hooks behind a metal fork. (Look at a diagram of your gm actuator.) My metal fork was stuck forward in the open position. Pulling the inside and outside door handles was ineffective because the actuator was already stuck in the open position. I soaked the actuator in WD-40, spraying most importantly towards the metal fork. Then I reached into the door with a long flathead screwdriver and pushed the metal fork back into the closed position. The door opened immediately.

Thanks again, I really did not want to destroy the inside door panel (like the video you mentioned). Here is the link ruclips.net/video/6hxlsaIrBZc/видео.html
