      You shouldn’t own a semi and not have some mechanical skills to work on them. I’m not a internal engine man but every thing outside the engine I can repair. Sensor,turbo,compressor,alternator,starter, radiator & DEF system, Air bags you must research and buy tools to reduce your repair cost. Learning the injector skills Volvo and Mack are different. Good Luck learning Diesel repair.

    You gentlemen should watch the podcast by the Freedom Brothers on this topic. I personally hate driving our company leased emissions compliant Mack. The engine light is on constantly, and the Mack dealer openly admits to me that they can't really diagnose some of the codes, they just throw parts at it like the doser valve and hope that fixes it! And when I plan a trip and the truck tells me it needs a parked regen, that takes an hour out of my day! I wouldn't personally delete a truck, buy glider or old truck. Also heard of guys taking a deleted truck to the dealer for a repair and the shop does an ECM update trying to fix the truck, and that removes the delete program and the truck now won't run and they can't let it leave the shop like that. Alot of the big time delete guys are out of business now I think so that's another possible problem.

I have had my egr valves replaced at volvo dealer 3 times within a 2 yr period. The main issue for me is the fact that when u buy the new EGR Valves there not new there remanufactured parts so depending on the company who is rebuilding them determine how reliable the parts are. Also my buddy did a egr delete on his d12 a few years ago and his truck has been running great lower engine temp better fuel mileage and he said better over all performance he did it at 600k and he is now at 1.1 million oil sample still looking good. Check out how much life you have in your SCR and DPF. also make sure your harness an connections are good. Around this milage you will start having issues with electrical conections and that might cause issues around emissions.

      Although I do not run into the northeast but I have it on good authority that New Jersey is quite serious about their emission checks. I also have it on good authority that a delete truck PROPERLY tuned has passed New Jersey's emissions test as low as 2%, which is in some cases 10 points BETTER than fully functional DPF systems that roll through there. New Jersey is an 18% maximum allowance on emissions, anything over that and you fail, no sticker.

      @TruckYoo  4 года назад +2

      I would not recommend drilling out the DPF filter. Nor removing it. Find a truck without it or if you have one already find a good shop that is able to do good diagnostics.

    • @kozakvod
      @kozakvod 4 года назад +5

      Do not drill. GUT. Gut out both your DPF and the SCR. Give the exhaust complete free flow. The reason is to REMOVE the heat. And when you merely drill holes in those medias you're not getting enough free flow area through the cans and ultimately all that excess heat will literally burn you in the wallet in short order. So gut both cans.

      @@TruckYoo afraid because they're known for having lots of issues and expensive to fix, on the other hand i could say that i drove Volvos and Scanias back home for so many years and i have nothing bad to say, including emissions, back home they are waaaaay ahead when it comes to trucks+emissions = reliability.
      I been an owner op for the last 15 yrs driving a Freightshaker but lately i keep thinking about a newer truck and yes i love Volvos, but im between a Pete 579 O/O spec or a kw as i pull a flatbed but not sure yet on that step i guess ill run that shaker till it dies on me as it has 1 million miles as we speak.
