@@jesuschristiskingofkingslo2023 Ezekiel 36:25-27 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. God promises to purify, give a new heart and spirit, and empower those people to walk in obedience to His commandments. How many people does this actually happen with? So many people are self proclaimed and worldly saved; lacking any evidence, product, brought into being from a genuine, strong faith. Lukewarm faith fails to save both the baptized and the unbaptized. God replaces people's hard hearts with hearts of flesh that are humble and eager to obey him. Baptism is a sacrament. There are seven. Faith alone Will save. Genuine, strong faith.
Luke 9:49-50 says, "Those who aren't against me are for me," jesus teaches his prejudiced apostles about religious tolerance and respect. You should learn it by reading your "bible". Also, note that the native Americans themselves are releasing their records. They back the Book of Mormon. The nemenhah records (book, second complete edition) and the ojibwe nation shared there's (the birch bark scrolls), which are undergoing translation now. (Ironically, the lds church had rejected them despite their affirmation of the Book of Mormon).
But is your personal LDS faith really based on the historical accuracy of the BoM? It is not based on your testimony of reading it, since we do not have proof thereof? Thus why didn't the early Apostles know the BoM gospel? Did Jesus in the NT say that He was about to head off to the Americas to minister or acknowledge the existence of Nephites/Lamanites? Why does the supposed discovery of golden plates imply that JS gets to form a church with absolute authority? Y'all say that all non-LDS Christian baptisms don't count. Why make it even harder for people to believe in your gospel? Do you not think it is easier to believe in the Bible than the BoM which requires you to read it through and gain testimony on something you can never be convinced by historicity? Is it not easier to believe in the NT which, while not 100% provable, is at least written by apostles and scribes only a few decades after Christ's resurrection? The truth is, you MUST gain a testimony of the Bible before the BoM even if you are LDS. Knowledge of Christ by the Roman era Jews precedes that by the Nephites/Lamanites. And if you read Paul's letters, you will know that the teachings of works and ordinances as a requirement to salvation is incorrect. An even more obvious issue is the cosmological/metaphysical teachings in the LDS church. Do you really believe God was once a man, or that there are other gods? God is the alpha and the omega, Christ is His firstborn (heir) and by whom all is created. There is nothing above God. If God used to be a man, what is existence? What is reality? Who created God? Who is the absolute "above all"? No one!!! There is only God "outside of" existence (the universe, space and time, any hypothetical parallel universes, the heavens (the unknown which is above earth) and earth)! If Christ is not God, what was the purpose of the atonement? Why did God send a proxy to atone for our sins, rather than Himself? Since we are all children of God (including Jesus and according to LDS doctrine of pre-mortality), and some of us have sacrificed ourselves throughout history to protect God's glory, is Jesus' atonement no more significant than such mortal sacrifices? Then why worship Him and not Paul? Why not worship Isaiah? What's the purpose of angels if they can just be gods? I love all my LDS friends. I have faith that they may be saved. But that is not because of the LDS church, but their personal, individual faith which is genuine. I believe they are doing a lot of extra work, and I cannot guarantee the consequences of having the false belief of God once being a man. The idea of continuing revelation is backed by the false doctrine that Jesus isn't God. In that case, sure, keep on prophesying. But Jesus is Lord and He already taught us salvation. There is no need to spread additional doctrines nor to negate any that abide Christ's teachings in the NT, which is in fact disrespectful to Christ. You made it seem like He came purposeless for 1800 years. The other comment that quoted Romans 4:4 is everything needed to affirm that faith is what saves us, and good works is the outward manifestation of it (James 2). Faith is not merely the acknowledgement of God's existence, but the obedient heart that follows. It is not true that Protestants don't value good works.
Luke 9:49-50 Isn't about religious tolerance. There is no religion mentioned in that prooftext. Jesus is showing them to recognize who is on their team while correcting their exclusivity. There's a fine line between who's against Jesus and for Jesus. It's not simply whoever says, "I'm not against Jesus." There are many unbelievers who say that but does that mean they are FOR him? No. In Matthew 12:30 Jesus says, "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad." It's very important that we understand who Jesus really is to know if we are for him. If someone were worshiping a toaster oven that they believed was Jesus does that mean they are for him? I'll leave you with some more food for thought. Jesus says this in Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
It depends on what you mean by the word totally different. If my dad and I run a construction business together and we agree 100% on everything, or in other words what one would do, that is what the other would do, then they are not totally different people. Even if you have different personalities that is totally ok. But if one builds the same way as the other, or they both have the exact same idear of what is right and wrong in how to run the business, it wouldn’t matter who you talked to because you would get the same answer. They aren’t totally different, in fact as far as the business goes, they are totally the same. So if you want to make the point that they are two different persons it would be good to point out from our perspective that in every other way, they are one. And as Christ said in His intercessory prayer, He wants us to be one with Him, as He is one with God the Father.
