Missed one...Swede Savage 1973...saw on TV when I was young. THAT was horrific. The car literally disintegrated. I recall one network slowed down the footage and he was still strapped in his seat airborne!
Same, thats probably the worst crash if you ask me. More horrible then any of these. Tho, he got paralyzed from the waist and down. But is now able to walk. Sick if u ask me.
@@editroosvald29 well. That he got paralyzed is not true. He's up and walking about since he recovered from those injuries. But he had a long recovery, took about 18 months if I'm not mistaken. He's been on Swedish TV in those competition programs , where old athletes compete against each other. Since we're from the same state in Sweden,it was fun to follow him when he was racing. And remember this crash so well. Really didn't think that he would survive.
Can't wait till racing games get this realistic, it would make them far more intense watching parts fly everywhere whilst you are trying to get through the chaos.

Kenny Bräck?? His crash was not fatal but he survived the immposible with 214 g-force (death may occur at >50 g) It was almost nothing left from the car
"Jaw dripping moments & crashes in IndyCar history" doesn't include two major crashes in the '89 Indy 500; Kevin Cogan's crash into the outside wall of pit road, leaving his car cleaved in half, and Al Unser Jr. getting tapped by Emerson Fittipaldi in turn 3, putting Little Al into the wall and Fittipaldi coming away clean for the win.

A lot of crash are crazy..if they had spectators they would be easily killed..like something tiny with high speed can kill 1-2 person or a flying wheel.. More cool watching from home safe and relaxed:)
My housemate told me of this 5 million dollar purse at the beginning of their 2011 season...hey wait I was at the 2006 nascar race there and there was a half mile of earth movers waiting to cut the turns off this track and bank it more because Indy cars were not gonna race here anymore? Anyway I had a really bad feeling about this combination almost a full year before this happened and this result is exactly why they were lucky more drivers did not perish in this huge wreck
@@Lumakid100 Yes I have. It's a good first step in my opinion. But it still doesn't cover the drivers front. I just think that something could be done to better protect open wheel drivers without compromising speed or aerodynamics. Many of the teams have worked with aircraft engineers in the past. So, if they can make it work for jet fighters, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to make something similar for race cars.

Empty grandstands seem to be the norm regardless of the platform. Indy car is starting to see a sizeable increase in attendance and viewership.

Thanks Jake.
