I grew up in a little town on the central coast of California and we had two TV channels. Late night TV programming was re-runs of My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, I Love Lucy, and Hazel. My mom worked late at a restaurant, so I would watch TV and wait for her to come home.
Fred MacMurray was a big part of my childhood and I hope I learned all the lessons he tried to teach his boys. I never imagined what his private life was and I'm so glad to visit his ranch and hear his daughter's memories.

Had the wonderful chance to stay and eat dinner here when the Gallo winery purchased the property.... one of the stipulations with the purchase was to leave things as is... as you can see they did ... I will never forget this visit.. nothing but a class family...The Mc Murray's.

I met Fred MacMurray when I was a teenager working as a soda jerk at the corner drug store in Greenville, CA. It was a summer day in the mid 1960s when he, his wife and two of their children came in for milkshakes or ice cream sodas. I was working and had learned to be professional, so I didn't ask for his autograph, but he did say he was camping up at Round Valley Lake. So, after work, I took my bike up the 3 miles of narrow, windy paved road, walking much of the way because it was so steep and my bicycle had but one gear. I found his campsite, got his autograph, chatted a moment, then headed back down the hill. I lost control on a sharp curve, going SO fast and crashed. Lots of road rash, torn clothing, broken glasses and late home from work - boy was I in trouble from Mom. But I had Fred MacMurray's autograph. In pencil. Years later, when rummaging through my childhood keepsakes, I discovered what happens to paper and pencil script with age. It yellows, fades and deteriorates and the only thing left is this memory I share with you. I'm 70 now and I still remember all the joy and the pain. Life is good.

Jim McClain Thank you so much for sharing your story. So many little things in there resonate with me as I am 66 years old. People our age are watching a very different world from the one we grew up in emerge. Soda jerks and riding bicycles 3 miles are foreign things today. I wouldn’t take a million dollars for the memories we have and the privilege of growing up as Baby Boomers. We knew the “great stars” of Hollywood, like Mr. MacMurray.

Fred MacMurray grew up with family members who had lived through the Depression as my family had done. You have a renewed appreciation for all things old for items of value are never discarded. My grandmother collected a ball of string from packaging long before the day of plastic bags. She show me this ball of string and she said, "this ball of string has value do not throw it away". Now, we live in an age of disposable goods as well as disposable marriages.....sad.

No one here mentioning "Double Indemnity" possibly his best role. The banter between Fred and Barbara Stanwyck was so clever and so professional, very few movie scripts today can match the classics from the 40's 50's and 60's.

I have gone back time after time to listen and to watch. It makes me feel so comfortable listening to her tell about her parents and their wonderful home. Today all we see is these big million dollar homes with no personality in them but here you can see a family home and just picture them from the swing on the porch to them sitting around the fire place at night. She tells such a wonderful story of their life and the sound of her voice tells how loving her family was. You can almost hear the voices as you go through each room. Imagine everyone around the table talking and laughing. The table for 25 cents must bring back such memories for her. I can remember doing things with just me and my dad and it brings a tear to me. Her family was so lucky to have that wonderful home and such wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing 🥰

How he touched the lives of all those boys and turned them into good, wholesome, and humbled adults. Just as he was. That's what I always saw in him. Even in "My Three Sons" he was able to give answers to Uncle Charlie and the boys that sounded so real and natural. He was a humble man and it showed in his work. You have to be so proud to call him Daddy. RIP Fred MacMurry.

Reminds me of farmhouses in New England. Great to see original architecture and decor being Preserved and celebrated. No need to tear everything out and put in marble and glass and grey paint everywhere. Beautiful home.

Loved the interview, and I adore your home. But are you the only one there? It's so quiet, like a museum. Sad to think that the house is sitting. empty/almost empty. Children should be running up and down the stairs, and across that fabulous lawn.

I disagree that children should be running up and down the stairs etc. It would be such a quiet, peaceful place to spend evenings in, maybe have a few friends in to share a meal or just a visit or spend time on some hobby. I would love that.

Wow, love this. Really brought back some good memories from my own childhood seeing this video. When they showed the china cabinet, I couldn't believe it. I have a single plate in that design. I don't know the story behind it, but it was in my Mother's china cabinet forever. Since they have passed, I now have that plate. Wish I knew the story behind it.

What an endearing recollection of her family life. I’m amazed the house has remained the same ... a welcome sigh of relief. The memories have and will remain intact - so refreshing and special. Thank you for sharing.

I really, REALLY liked this video. I had no idea that Mr. MacMurray's farmhouse was still around until I watched this. And, it's amazing that everything is still in its place. Thank you, Houzz TV. This video made my whole week.

That was a fantastically well spent 7:30. Here was one of my favorite childhood actors living much like the rest of us and enjoying things far removed from Tinseltown’s bright lights.
