Lawrence Taylor is the only player in NFL history to put legitimate FEAR into offensive players’ heads. Aaron Donald is great but he isnt LT. He just isnt. And mind you LT has an MVP AND 2 rings. Aaron Ronald has a lot of ground to cover. One superbowl isnt going to make this a legit argument.

He's a short, small, quick and strong DT. The NFL experts preach Leverage, Leverage Leverage but keep signing 6'6 linemen. A good 6 ft, 6-1, 300-315lb guard would make life easy going against Donald. Low man wins most of the time.

He's top 5 with or without a Superbowl ring but certainly not number #1 that spot belongs to Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White is arguably number 2 and Ray Lewis is also ahead of Donald
@@frankburn6312 I'm a Cowboys fan so you know that I'm fine with putting Deion in the top 5, but you certainly could debate Donald vs Bruce Smith, because remember Aaron Donald is one of only 2 players to ever win 3 defensive player of the year awards
AD is the best swimming pass rusher ever. No contest. He's had a countless amount of plays where he is just not touched at all. But AD's run defense and presence is what drops him for me. He just doesn't take up enough space and hold multiple olinemen in place like a prime Cox, Snacks, or Suh. Still top 20 all-time though.
Aaron Donald is really that dude. He's already regarded as top 5 player in the league. Not just defensively, but altogether. What does that tell you about how great he really is as a defender? In a QB centered and offense centered league. If he's regarded the way he is by fans and peers the way he is now and he's only 30, I think he just might retire as the greatest defender to ever play the game. This is one of those guys who even if you come up with the best and most positive adjectives to describe his greatness, you're probably still selling him short.
Why do you guys like to say things like this? You already trying to put Lebron over MJ! NOT!!!! Now you want to put Donald over Lawrence Taylor. NEVER!!! You are living in the moment! WAKE UP!
The reason he “flashed more” is not only based on talent, or scheme, it’s largely based on who is across the line with him....Vaughn Miller is one of those names. It was the same with Charles, as it was wit Damaracus Lawrence. You can be a good player, but when you’re the only good player on the line it’s easy for you to disappear(depending on level of talent dictates level of transparency) As soon as you have a person who the offense has to pay a smidgit of legit attention to along side your star; the good players become great, and the great become UNSTOPPABLE!
Here after 99 ended the Super Bowl much like he ended the NFC Championship Game...winning the game by getting to the QB when it mattered most. Top 5 All Time, Offense or Defense. May be the greatest defensive player of all time.
Vita Vea is super underrated. Teams also scheme for him very simply: 2-4 men on him, no less lmao. The way that man disrupts a whole line or 3/5 AND the backfield by literally going straight forward is stupid crazy. And he can reach left or right for a tackle deceptively fast. Talking about a man who it's rare to see push back less than 2 other full grown men. Minimum. It's insane. I think next year, he could maybe take a leap and be considered a top 5 defensive PLAYER in the league today. Pretty sure he's already the only or one of the only NTs isn't he?
In this offense centric NFL I have to say Arron Donald is playing with rules set against him and he is still putting up these types of numbers. Shannon is right top 5 for sure.
The rules are set against DBs, not DL really. He just has to rush the passer and tackle RBs. This also helps him, more offensive plays, more tackles, more sacks, etc etc.
@@mrjonsey Have you not been watching football the past two seasons? Anything more aggressive than a mild push to sack the QB is going to be a penalty.
@@EmmanuelTurner245225 that’s when you get to the QB, his actual job hasn’t changed because of the rules, they just cant hit QBs below the knee and on the head but it’s not like they told them they have to play with one hand behind their backs or something.
Skips opinion is 💩💩💩 He's judging AD game by game, not overall production. Numbers don't lie! This is what he does when guys aren't on his teams. Playing the Cowgirls, does not make it break No one's career.
I'll accept what Shannon says he's top 5 but the game did not change because of him. LT changed how the game was played, he is the top man until someone else makes the game change because of that person.
Exactly. Great player but he’s the Drew Brees of defensive players. The stats are legendary but he did not change the game like Deion, LT or even Ray Lewis.
Not only do the stats show it, but the D-line/o-line has to be the only 2 position groups where stats don’t show everything. Even tho jimmy G probably wasn’t going to clutch that win, you see why pressures from him are game changing, and that last play didn’t even go in the stat book. He’s a literal freak of nature
Anybody who REALLY knows football knows he's a top 5 player all time defensively. Like Shannon said if he keeps doing what he's doing for another 3-5 years he'll be a top 5 player regardless of position. All you gotta do is look at his tape. Amazing.
Others have put up numbers like this, and in games that actually matter. The part y’all aren’t realizing is they didn’t throw it every play like they do now. They threw it a lot less and these guys still did that. Also there weren’t salary caps or trades back then. Look at the best offensive lines ever. They are all from back then. 90’s or before. Before the salary caps started. Better lines and less opportunities is a huge disadvantage.
I like how these guys think they know football, and don't even put Deacon Jones or Alan Page in their top 5 Defensive players. Alan Page actually won an MVP as a Defensive Tackle/end. No one has done that again. He was the JJ Watt of his era, but had closer to 20 good seasons at it. Deacon Jones had season with over 20 sacs, Multiple. and OH BY THE WAY THOSE WERE 14 GAME SEASONS.
Top 5 given the restrictions on defenders. Pocket pressure is one of the most important things since the rise of QB importance, taking up an excessive amount of cap space.

As far as defensive linemen go, Aaron Donald is definitely up there with the best. Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Deacon Jones, Michael Strahan were all considered the best, and now you have to mention Aaron Donald in the conversation with them.
U forgot LT
@@YounginBallin LT was a OLB though. I would say with a SB he is top 3 and w/ a sb mvp i would say top 2. If he plays at this level for another 2 - 3 years then he has a legit chance to be #1 and at worst #2 regardless what happens on Sunday
Forgot warren sapp
@@dupreehundo3070 no I didn't. Sapp was great, but he wasn't on their level. Each one of the individuals that I listed had to be game planned around. You didn't have to change your entire system because of Sapp.
He's definitely one of the best ever! Dude is a BOSS
He is most def top 5 all time.
Easily
Not even close I can name 5 players who if they started with aron Donald he wouldn't even be close
@@kashpaablo3580 who
Is he top 1?
I feel like defensive players don’t need rings for validation unless they win MVP or really dominated the game. I don’t think I would move him up or down the list much for this one game. I could be wrong though.
Agreed
Skip made some amazing points with the LT and Charles Haley comparisons, AD’s motor just doesn’t run as hot as those guys did.
It becomes a non debatable point to me when they talk about how much this man has been double teamed and still putting up hall of fame numbers. It’s not even close in my mind.
Donald got 20 sacks as DT the year Patrick Mahomes threw 50 tds and everyone was on his nuts. but we all know who should've been MVP that year.
@@zacwoods yea and that was back when you could absolutely VIOLATE quarterbacks. If these quarterbacks had to worry about AD doing those things to them they would be JUST AS SCARED. Quarterbacks are Protected by the league more than the damn pentagon nowadays. That’s a horrible argument. And LT won the MVP. I can’t do anything but give kudos to that. But I don’t care about team achievements like Super Bowls when we are talking about best individual players.
Other players have faced the same amount
@@stevencrawford6924 Agreed comparing eras is so hard. The fear thing is partly rules though LT was also a mean MFer on the field.
3/4th of the way through and I'm waiting for Skip to pull out his: "to my eye test..." 😂
Shannon had this from jump
Or every subject he brings up a cowgirls game like they were the team to beat
Shannon sharp is my favorite dude on this show
Eagles o line keeps Aaron Donald pretty quiet too. Regardless, best DT I've watched
Kelce is a beast and I credit a lot of Hurts’ success to having him in front of him
The difference between AD and the other great pass rushers is, aside from Warren Sapp, they are basically all edge rushers. The fact he's doing what he does at DT is what makes him a top 5 pass rusher all time.
Reggie White and Bruce Smith were amazing against the run wtf are u talking about?
@@elbowgang9715 did you even read what I wrote before commenting? They were both edge rushers, which is what I said. Learn to read.
@@alex-og.zalez9403 people like to shoot their mouths to quick without reading lmao scrubs
He's a short, small, quick and strong DT. The NFL experts preach Leverage, Leverage Leverage but keep signing 6'6 linemen. A good 6 ft, 6-1, 300-315lb guard would make life easy going against Donald. Low man wins most of the time.
People who are 6ft and 300lb that have any sort of athleticism is very rare. Not many exist and are good enough to play in the NFL.
Some consider LT as the greatest football player ever. That's including some of the best QB's ever.
L.T. is the greatest player in the history of the game. He is top dog everybody is wherever you put them
honestly that's a pretty decent argument. everybody praising AD but I just want to see someone come out and say he's better than LT, but they'd be committed to a psych ward.
He's top 5 with or without a Superbowl ring but certainly not number #1 that spot belongs to Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White is arguably number 2 and Ray Lewis is also ahead of Donald
@william Burney reggie white is my hero! I miss him so much.
Lt, Reggie White, Ray Lewis, Bruce Smith,Aaron Donald.
@@frankburn6312 I agree with that 👍
@@williamburney3166 there’s primetime to put in there as well. I would put him 4th , moving Smith the 5th and Donald to 6
@@frankburn6312 I'm a Cowboys fan so you know that I'm fine with putting Deion in the top 5, but you certainly could debate Donald vs Bruce Smith, because remember Aaron Donald is one of only 2 players to ever win 3 defensive player of the year awards
Lawrence Taylor hands down. NO ONE dominated, took over a game like he did. Donald has not done what LT has done.
are you still saying that? lol
Donald got his ring! Hope he comes back to try and run it again
he was before and is NOW officially. Congrats to the Super bowl 💍🏈🏈
Ed reed will always be my favorite defensive player
And Warren Sapp?
Aaron Donald is really that dude. He's already regarded as top 5 player in the league. Not just defensively, but altogether. What does that tell you about how great he really is as a defender? In a QB centered and offense centered league. If he's regarded the way he is by fans and peers the way he is now and he's only 30, I think he just might retire as the greatest defender to ever play the game. This is one of those guys who even if you come up with the best and most positive adjectives to describe his greatness, you're probably still selling him short.
Think he might have a case being the best linemen ever but LT/Sanders are in a category of their own.
Why do you guys like to say things like this? You already trying to put Lebron over MJ! NOT!!!! Now you want to put Donald over Lawrence Taylor. NEVER!!! You are living in the moment! WAKE UP!
LAWRENCE TAYLOR THE GREATEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER !!!
Facts he has at least 3 good years left
Patrick Willis, Troy Polamalu, Those old Steelers, Bears defense players, Ravens defenders, Deion, LT. etc. yea. I'd say top 10 is more likely
When suh was there they had to double block two players because both have to be double blocked
What a surprise no matter what the topic is Skip has to bring up the 90s cowboys
“Lt motor rain higher I felt like” yea skip dude was on every drug possible 😭
In this offense centric NFL I have to say Arron Donald is playing with rules set against him and he is still putting up these types of numbers. Shannon is right top 5 for sure.
The rules are set against DBs, not DL really. He just has to rush the passer and tackle RBs. This also helps him, more offensive plays, more tackles, more sacks, etc etc.
@@mrjonsey Have you not been watching football the past two seasons? Anything more aggressive than a mild push to sack the QB is going to be a penalty.
@@mrjonsey Also the offensive linemen are more athletic and bigger in this era
@@EmmanuelTurner245225 that’s when you get to the QB, his actual job hasn’t changed because of the rules, they just cant hit QBs below the knee and on the head but it’s not like they told them they have to play with one hand behind their backs or something.
@@Elusivve That’s true, but these dudes start much earlier now in their careers. Back then guys weren’t going to skills camps and AAU circuits
I’m surprised Shannon didn’t mention Ray Lewis on the list of all time defensive players 🤔 especially since he played with him
“He’s top 5 already.”
Facts. Been top 5 for a minute.
Great take Shannon. Love you Skip but this argument belongs to your cohost.
Stop comparing players from different era's. The game is not the same
AD on that Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White HOF & legend trajectory. He just needs the title to back it up.
As a Seahawks fan, I’ll see Donald disappear in our games a lot....until he doesn’t then you regret forgetting about him😭
Raiders of the mid 70s and Dolphins of early 70s was also very Great.

Aaron Donald is overrated
Not only do the stats show it, but the D-line/o-line has to be the only 2 position groups where stats don’t show everything. Even tho jimmy G probably wasn’t going to clutch that win, you see why pressures from him are game changing, and that last play didn’t even go in the stat book. He’s a literal freak of nature

Now watch the naysayers change the narrative with the quickness since AD made them eat crow the biggest stage....
LT had a high-octane motor but Aaron Darnold has the ninja focus.

Donald, deserves every accolade the media and public bestow on him……But, he has never affected games the way LT has….That’s just straight truth.
Top 5 given the restrictions on defenders. Pocket pressure is one of the most important things since the rise of QB importance, taking up an excessive amount of cap space.
No but up there with the greats no doubt!!!!
