Great times back then, before my time but I have had the past 20 years in Pattaya so seen the good and the bad also...........Time to get out of Dodge the party is over wont be back anytime soon. Loved the Datsun perhaps a 240z in the footage.

@Mr X Heading back to Scotland, I have property there but opting to stay with my Mother who has a lovely big home. Came to an arrangement with my Partner take our 13 year old son back also give him a better chance for Education and life in general. I save best till last, I have bought already a Harley Chopper waiting in the showroom as we speak, have friends in bike clubs and do a weekly Rally normally only to get Fish n Chips hahahaha helps take the sting out of leaving a Country I will miss for sure. It is the easiness of Thailand I will miss most, before COVID just pop out the door and you have street food or in a Restaurant not like that in Scotland but I will acclimatise once more.

@Karl Brown How the f**k do you know our background?. For one thing it was mutual agreement between us and my son want to go Scotland for further Education and a lifestyle infinitely better than he would have with his Thai Grandparents Northern Thailand. Secondly my partner has been to Scotland twice and like a Fish out of water, she does not like it and never wants to leave Thailand. If my message is rude thats the intent, you are bang out of order to judge me.

Great videos. So many memories. In 1967 I was a young man of 19 years who happened to be in Viet Nam at that time. Took my R&R in Bangkok.
For a nominal fee, I had a Thai man who was my driver for 7 days. He was ready anytime to take me wherever I wanted. Asked for him to take me and my girlfriend to a beach. Guess where he took us? Pattaya. Great memories.
Returned years later. Living with my Thai wife in Issan. Return to the US twice a year to see my children and grandchildren.
Thank you for your video. Just wanted to pass on my past experience .

yeah thanks, Lots of memories for me. I first started as a young Sailor here during 'The War' in the 70's, then fast forwarding, by 1984 on our way back to Aust I jumped off my Ship, returning from the Middle East and the USN Task Group, in Singapore, where my Thai GF had journeyed down to meet me and we trained it back to Bangkok. Another story. Pity you have no videos of Phuket, Samet and Samui etc. from this time. Although there the wasn't much to film down there then, apart from the once unspoilt, beautiful, natural landscape, and people. We talked about marrying at this time in 1984 (whilst on the beach at Koh Samet). Which eventually came to fruition after my return to Aust and the Navy decided I had been at sea too long and they wanted to post me ashore to both teach and look after the Officers. Not my go. That ended my relationship with the Navy. I got out. Finished up in our own Thai Restaurant business in Melbourne. Eventually I left that behind and legged it back to Thailand, where I am today. Haven't been to Pattaya in over a decade. Don't miss it one bit today. Everything changes. It will not surprise me if/when Pattaya will be a prime target in 'The Great Reset'.

@@THAILAND1881 Ok thanks, I'll keep a look out for it. One thing a lot of people will not realise is that Pattaya, decades ago, was just a weekend getaway for most. Bangkok was the 'scene', the place where everything happened. Before they ruined Patpong. Or the R&R Hotels of Petchaburi Road area. The Windsor Hotel in Soi 20 which was the US R&R Centre. Taking that treacherous road we would race of down to Pattaya for a weekend, such as with the the boss and boys from the Grand Prix Bar and visiting Ex USMC Vietnam Vet, BJ, at his bar 'BJs" (Soi named after him) drinking shots and taking turns at BJs Snuff Gun! What a hoot! The Aust embassy BKK used Pattaya as a short getaway from the capital, rostering personnel with Montien Hotel Accomodation reserved for staff - with Embassy Car and Driver. Soi Cowboy was a low class slum place that few people, apart from offshore workers, ever visited. I lived within walking distance of it but never went there. Cowboy had by then opened another Bar and VFW Rooms at the end of Soi 22 (Sukhumvit) where I lived - which was also 'slums' in those days. It was a great time to be alive.

Fascinating video! Very few people shot video back then. I first visited Pattaya in 1987. First trip to Thailand and the experience blew my mind. Managed to get back in 1992. Didn't recognise the place and couldn't find any of my previous haunts. The fun had completely disappeared and all the girls sat around looking miserable and jaded. All I heard all the time was, "Everyone has gone to Phuket." So, that's what I did. Patong Beach was amazing in 1992, but when I went back in 1996 the same thing had happened. These incredible places in Thailand get ruined in no time at all by mass tourism. Went back to Pattaya for a look around a few years ago, but it's a place I have avoided since 1992.

This was a amazing time 1984 first trip to Thailand.
First stop Bangkok, Malaysia Hotel. Travelers meeting point.
Second stop: Koh Samui, Bamboo Cottages 1$/Night, Food 1$/Day, Mekong Whiskey 1$/Bottle.
Last stop Pattaya, rent big bike, fell in love with Moonlight 🤠

1986.. Pattaya to "one night in Bangkok," stayed at Nana Plaza.. It was a Sunday, and "the Kings B-day" (little did I know) .. "One Night in Bangkok Song, playing" everywhere.. "It's the Kings B-day," everything close" I kept hearing (but what you looking for - lol) .. Me & GF in Hot Pants, standing at the Marble Temple, In front of the Crowd lining a Red Carpet, waiting for the King, sweltering in the heat .. Great Pic with my 35MM.. Zooming Digitally (yrs later) at crowds faces.. they were staring at Farang me and "Hot Pants" with Anger & Contempt (wow) .. Little did I know ..

First went there in 1980 and stayed at the Palm Villa hotel, now alas long gone. So much fun due to the excesses of youth. I'm still in Thailand but avoid Pattaya, even without covid, because it's become a concrete jungle. Nothing in life remains the same -- move on to other destinations. Does anyone remember "Nice With Ice"?
