Regarding the previous comment about making noise while Rowan’s sleeping - YES, make noise! From the day we brought each of our girls home from the hospital, we made our usual noise so they wouldn’t wake up easily. I’d vacuum under their bed while they were sleeping and the noise never bothered them. Making noise really helps when company comes over or if you have more children. Since Rowan is now several months old, you may need to increase the amount of noise over a week or so, but it won’t take long at all. Honestly it will make your life easier if you do this. In fact, each of them would play in the crib before or after sleeping, as long as they couldn’t see me - giving me more time to catch up on the things I needed to do during nap time.

We typically carry on with our normal lives when she is sleeping, however there are a few things we have picked up on and avoid for her sake and ours. Being out and away from town it can be extremely quiet here and if she goes down for a nap in that silence we try to keep the quiet as she is more likely to wake and startle to sudden noises. When she falls asleep in a noisy house, she can sleep through quite a lot - such as the hammering when we were installing the flooring.
We’ve learned that under any circumstances she hates the chainsaw, but doesn’t mind the sawmill and the generator running is the best background noise for naps.
Ultimately though we don’t mind taking some quiet time during our day if we have to. It gives both of us a chance to rest with some quiet as well.

Usually the advice is to have flooring / panelling inside the house for 48 hours to a week to acclimatise it to the indoor environment. That plus you had them out in the weather makes it extra necessary to first bring all inside for several days.

Here's a good hint for your nail holes and gaps. Take your saw dust and mix it with some wood glue . Put it on those spots and sand them. They will blend in and stain really well. Not like wood puddy.

Shallower electric boxes can be used to avoid digging out the insulation. Slight bevel on each end of the paneling to but closer and avoid the gaps to a large degree. Try to install your boxes before panels are installed. Lots of luck to you on this project. Either way it will look good. More insulation is possible too behind the panels for less heat loss. Don't fret too much about the gaps as moisture in rainy weather may tend to swell the wood and then you'll have warpage.

When installing boards on wall or ceiling, inside or out I was taught to bevel the ends 15 degrees where they butt together. By doing this the joint will be less visible so shrinkage will not matter as much. Putting the material inside the wood can acclimate to the inside temperature and dry more. By the way if you put the joint angle away from the viewing perspective you will notice the joint even less even if there is a slight gap in the joint. I think you will be amazed at how much better it will look. Great work - - I think you two will thrive in the great wilderness of Alaska.

Why dont you run a bulkhead fitting below the frost in your well casing for your main line to run to your house, than add your pressure tank with the pressure switch in a corner of your house. All your lines will come off of that. The only thing you hear is the pressure switch once in a while. No need for storing water or having a heated pump house. Too simple. Thats what we all do hear in Nova Scotia.you just have to go below the frost. Hope this helps.oh I love your videos.

The well got in after the ground was froze.
The cabin is only heated by wood so when we are not home things can freeze easily.

I agree with the other commenter about not enough insulation you will have moisture buildup a perfect start for black mold, then you’ll have to throw out the tongue and grove plus the insulation you have in the wall plus having to use toxic chemicals or sand blast to remove the mold.

We did a hot roof design for this structure instead of the traditional cold roof. Typically with a cold roof there would be an air gap that is vented so condensation can collect on the outer cold side of the roof and be vented to dry. We have foam board insulation that works as a vapor barrier from the inside to outside then the osb then a house wrap that lets an moisture out of the osb if it gets any moisture but any condensation should be between the house wrap and the metal roof. As for the inside the wood stove keeps it extremely dry and being the hot side of the foam board it won’t condensate between the wood and foam board.

Why are you quite while the baby is sleeping, it’s better for babies to hear regular noises when the steep. So they learn to sleep like everyone else with everyday sounds otherwise any little noise will wake them and it will be harder to get them back to sleep.
