I'm so glad you showed TLG trail!!! I rode this on my mtbike (not the 28 switchbacks) 20:yrs ago, the "Europeans" at end didn't believe me. In Dali saw them, said they saw my tracks! But they didn't apologize; consistent!!
FALCON FRANK now an expressway has already reached Lijiang and beyond, bullet trains have reached Dali with Dali-Lijiang section undergoing upgrading. The only uncharged is the beauty! I can’t wait to go BACK
Wow. Nice trek. I notice how the signs are in English and Chinese in such a remote place.... That just goes to show you how welcoming and how they value foreign tourist.
Cosmo Ray Chances are that they have so many tourists speaking English that they need these English signs to keep the tourists from losing their directions.
I was there in May 2016, all I saw a long the trail were European/Middle Eastern/and SE Asians, not a single American, except me. I felt we USA were so weak! Glad to see two of you took the hike. Wish you have wonderful trips in China. I was there for couple months, wish I could spend more time.
I've done that hike. Suuuuuuuuuuuper hard! It's no joke! But the view is amazing, so it's worth everything! And the ladder! When I went there, there was only the old one. I climbed up on that thing, almost scared to death!
Hiked here also three years ago. It is very beautiful and peaceful. If you guys like nature view and local culture so much, I think there are a lot of places where you can go deep into in China.
Tiger leaping gorge虎跳峡has always been my most interested place for adventure since my childhood however I have never had a chance (time or money one or the other) and I am quite jealous of you guys at the moment most honestly.
We are so happy that we chose to do this hike, we almost didn't because Leah was very sick only 2 days before. But we somehow miraculously made it through the whole thing alive! I recommend it to everyone, you should definitely do it one day!
Peregrination She was adapting to the local food and atmosphere. However you can always seek medical help at any hospital because hospitals in China don’t always need reservations.
You guys should really go to Shangri la, it's like paradise there. But be aware of the high altitude sickness though. Maybe try living in some good hotels too, cus some nice hotels adapt the local culture really well, like Banyan tree Ringha. You won't regret it.
Glad you made it to TLC ! Totally awesome or what ? And well done on toughing it out up the 28 bends. I have to admit I cheated and took a horse up that section. But then I am twice as old as you guys and then some. Best 160 RMB I have ever spent. Actually, the first 10 minutes or so on the back of the horse climbing the rocky trail were pretty scary until I figured out that the horse was really sure footed (in fact more so than me when hiking with a pack) and was not about to go stumbling off the edge of the trail. Then I relaxed and began to enjoy the ride.
Your clips are so nice! but I just wonder whether there is any accident prevention? if the answer is yes, I would like to recommend the trail to my parents! Thanks for your video lol!
Tiger leaping gorge is the best! As long as one has the stamina to handle it, it’s the best hiking course in the world. And be super careful of sun burning. The ultraviolet there is no joking. Absolutely need some very solid sun screen.
Peregrination If only you had bought some sunscreen at Kunming. Recently I’m using Mentholatum Sun Play Skin Aqua SPF50 sunscreen, and it sells at about ¥60 in Watson’s.
i have been binge watching your videos. one conclusion: it is so nice to be young and energetic !!!! " those were the days my friend ......." you know the song ??? take care and thank you.
It is recommended to stay at least two nights. The first night on the high trail and then the second night at Tina's (or close by). That allows plenty of time to walk down to the bottom of the gorge and cross the swing bridge out onto the rock and make it back to Tina's to catch the 3:30 pm bus. Admittedly, the walk across the swing bridge is not for the faint of heart, and falling into the rapid would mean certain death, but apart from that minor consideration, well worth it. Just say to yourself "不要怕" (Bùyào pà - Don't be afraid). It would be madness IMHO to try to walk all the way from the western entrance to Tina's in one day although some people - the super fit I am guessing - apparently do.
Hahaha to be honest, we didn't go across the swinging bridge! But we did have to climb the sky-ladder, which was one too many near death experiences for the day! LOL
Congrats on your hike! Can you suggest how to do TLG in one-day? Unfortunately all guest houses are booked so we’ll have to do a day trip. Thanks a bunch!
That is a far hike! I guess our suggestion would be to stay in Xiaoto the night before your hike so you can get a very early start the next morning. If you are trying to take the 3:30 bus from Tina's guesthouse back to Lijiang, you may be out of luck, unless you stay at Tina's GH one night and take the bus back the next day. Hopefully that makes sense! Good luck!
Just found your channel. Great video. May I ask what equipment you used for filming? Especially the selfies on a gimbal.... and how did you do those awesome time lapses of the clouds at bed and in the morning? Didn't your equipment run out of juice? I did TLG with my six year old son in Dec 2017. Great time!
We use a Cannon G7x Mark 2! We can film a whole day without it running out of battery power, but we try to conserve its energy as much as possible. The time lapses do not run down the battery that much, thank goodness! Thanks for watching!
@@Peregrination Sorry had to play a trick on both of you when I saw Leah so excited to see the Peppa pig logo on some of the things in the WalMart. Lone Star state or not, good to see both of you enjoying your journey through Asia and excellent demeanour from both of you to be broad minded and open to all sort of experiences. I watched so many of these travel vlogs and some are not game to try new food and new experiences. Travel is one of the best educative tools, one can buy and hence from time immemorial, you have the great travellers like Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, Vasco da Gama, and Amerigo Vespucci (who first discovered America (aka beautiful country in Chinese). They all bring back tales of great civilisation and cultures of the people in foreign lands and amazed the locals with their tales of their travel. Guess, you both are doing the same discovering a world far far away. Hope the tariff war will stop soon. Stay safe and enjoy your journey. I know you did not train at Langley, Virginia and was merely pulling your legs.
Seems you guys like hiking so much. 雨崩 is worth to be another hiking spot for your Yunnan journey since it’s also famous that attracts heaps of backpackers in China.
It is very rewarding to finish a really hard hike! We felt very accomplished! There were many other hikers there with us, but I think we did it early enough in the season it wasn't too crowded!

Tiger Leaping Gorge is so called because according to legend a hunted tiger leaped the gorge when cornered - it was of course at the narrowest point into the river there
Hi! Thanks for sharing your adventure. I'll be trekking tiger leaping gorge in September. May I know what's the name of the accommodation you guys stayed? Did you book a room in advance or on the spot? Hope to hear from you. Stay Safe. Cheers from Borneo.
We stayed at Halfway House (which more like 2/3rds way from the beginning of the trail.) Most people stay at Naxi Guesthouse the first night, then Halfway House the second night. We did the whole hike in 2 days and left from Tina's guest house on their 3:30 PM (15:30) bus back to Lijiang.
The hike from Qiaotou to Tina's guest house is hard, but if you take it over 2-3 days, it isn't terrible. But if you go all the way down to the gorge from Tina's guesthouse, it is incredibly difficult! Especially after hiking all the way from Qiatou!!
you're at high altitude, sun burn and short of breath are the norm. Dali is 2000, Lijiang 2400 meters above sea level. that's 1000 meters higher than Salt lake city!
@@Peregrination you'll get used to it :-) the nearby jade dragon mountain is over 4000 meters if you want to see the glacier, you can take a cable car up there, no need to climb. Potatso National Park is beautiful. if you're really adventurous, you can go even farther north to the MeiLi snow mountain in Deqin, all on the same route, good luck!
