When you scrape the plaster across the brick, the youtube captions say [Applause]. Yes, we do. 😄 I'm not sure what it is about watching people repurpose old buildings that so many of us find so fascinating, but I'm here for it. Cheering you on from across the pond!
When my wife and I moved it to our 1st home back in 1983, like your Coach House it was also a wreck. All the wiring, pipework and water heating was original to when the house was built in 1928.We later found out it was the builder's last house in the area, he must have used everything he had left. Some of the internal walls were just large pebbles covered with straw and horse hair plaster, the people before us had removed a downstairs toilet and just covered the drain with a piece of slate. It took us months to get rid of the slugs. So I understand everything you're going through, because we've done it. Apart from that if fitting a spiral staircase, which I wanted but got out voted by she who must be obeyed. I really like the use of lime plaster, it's so suitable for that building. 👍👍
Thanks for the longer length videos… I never tire of watching you doing good & ingenious work. And thank you also for including Ziggy as a regularly featured cast member. Cheers & Happy New Year!
Brilliant. It is so refreshing seeing someone restoring their unusual home with practical solutions and having a go - sometimews with old techniques sometimes new! You have the luxury of space and completing the work at your own pace. I don't have a problem with your electrics, looks quite safe to me - my background 2000 volt marine radio transmitters. Protecting eyes, ears, lungs and being careful with fingers vs rotating blades is more important.
You couldn’t see in the video but the conductors on the cable were exposed, the rubber insulation had cracked. Wow, heavy duty marine radio transmitters!
Is there anything you don't know how to do? Love your channel and your work ethic, ability, character, love of tiny animals....!!! Have a great new year and wishing you continued success and growth and all good things from Ohio!!!!🎉😊❤
I enjoy your project so much. It’s very different from many of the other projects I watch just in the sense that it was so industrial rather than a home that needs refurbishing. I don’t know anything about electrics, so I’ll have to take your word for it but I feel you are doing a great job. Looking forward to all the progress in the New Year! 🎉 🍻
happy new year lad... that experimental wall section i think is gonna be good... and if any roman centurians turnup admiring the lime morter.. tell em... theres great big lumps of it out the back. xxc
Love your video’s. Because your way of telling the story is really laid back. Like the way you use traditional ways of building and make it looks easy. Most of all like the patina look of things. It looks old, but is well thought out. Great watch. Hope you’ll get lots and lots of subscribers.
With Jobs, I always find the first 10% and the last finishing 10% take the longest. Once you get a system, and get into the swing of it, doing the bulk work will be much, much quicker. For example having all the insulation ready to go, theh having just one person mixing or attaching the buckets to the winch, then you remove it can all save a ton of time.
New subscriber here It's always a good feeling I get when watching someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about the work they're doing. It fascinates me how different things are from here in the States and England with techniques and such, and I learn new things every time I watch your videos. Excellent work and video my friend!
I’m so enjoying your progs…many thanks. I restored an old coach house and stables in Lincoln over 30 years ago. Am now building a new enviro friendly house for my old age! Jinxy
I had to turn on the "CC" as being an American I am not used to the British slang (ie, Moorish). The video quality has improved; good job on the new camera. Yep, get some help before your arm falls off.
Question if that insulator is just wood pulp board, lime mortar on each side, which is breathable, what is to prevent the wood pulp board from going to mush? Did I miss a moisture barrier somewhere? Video quality noticed. So far enjoying the ride along.
Hello and Happy New Year! Do you think that was concrete on the walls? What a bear to remove all that! Just think, you will be great at that by the time you’re finished, huge job. Your choices of materials and methods are perfect for those walls, strength and insulating, should be an entirely comfortable temperature year round. Thanks so much, fantastic, as usual!!!
You always do such a terrific job, your parents must be very proud of you. Hello, Ziggy! (I hope I remembered your cat's name correctly. She's a girl, right?)
Hi I'm a newcomer to your site I saw the unblocking of the yard doorway and making a new door.Over Christmas I've caught up with all your episodes. I'm amazed at how much work you have done upto date. I was wondering did you not consider using Pex tubing instead of copper. Thanks for the entrainment over this Xmas, all the best have a great new year. Ps what's your name.
Hello! I was very on the fence with the pipe, I quite like copper & feel it’s a bit more robust. I think PEX has its place too, I used it downstairs. Max
I would be tempted to put vertical beams at the walls supporting the horizontal beams, and digging out the floor downstairs and put in oak beams or metal girders and having the vertical beams resting on that, the exterior walls I would staple and wall plate to the vertical beams, that brick structure is not filling me with confidence apart from that happy new year and I have binged watched thank you
I thought the brackets were there because he was unsure of the state of the beams within the wall pocket? At least he knows the brackets are attached to a solid part of the beam.
The brackets are to tie the beam into the wall, for lateral strength. On one of the tie beams the wall has moved outward nearly 1 inch, I’m hoping the re-roof in conjunction with the new wall ties should alleviate the problem.
Chap goes onto a building site looking for a job. Foreman says that the only job he has an opening for is 'hod carrier'. "What's it pay?" "200 pounds and hour". "Let me hang my coat in this shed and I'll start straight away". "That's not a shed, that's your hod".
A suggestion. You have quite a soft voice and from time to time it’s hard to hear what you’re saying. Consider (buying &) using a clip on microphone. It will help us hear you when you are facing away from the camera or if there’s background noise. Keep up the good work though!
It is important to remember that when you are removing lead paint you inevitably get some on your fingers, and then you touch your lips, and you have lead going into your mouth. Your body cannot discern between lead and calcium, so some of it gets stored in your bones.
You remind me of the organist off Monty Python. Thanks for all the vlogs, certainly one of my best finds this year! Happy New Year!! ruclips.net/video/ZLE60Aspsu4/видео.htmlsi=VulHzjG0RnIyuiDW

Great video!
Good to see Ziggy "on the job" too - videos are always better with added Ziggy content!

I'm really enjoying watching the work you're doing. i do think Ziggy should be brewing up though. He looks like he could handle that.
I must commend you on your kick A. Attitude but your David Attenborough respect towards genuine repro or as close as you can! RESPECT! 😊
Been watching for the last few months. Great stuff!
Valuable watch, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
You must have a heart like a lion to even attempt this project, doing a grand job though. 👍
Brilliant again! Wishing you, and all viewers, a spiffing New Year! 🎆 🎇 🍾 🎉 🎊
Happy new year!

This is so very therapeutic to watch. Excellent work 👍🏻😎
I'm new to your channel but it is absolutely fantastic!
Plain relaxing and enjoyable watching your progress and creativity as you go. 🇨🇦❤
My right wrist is aching with repetitive stress injury just from watching that trowel work. Memories of stucco on walls many decades ago.
Ahahah, exactly !!!
Happy after Christmas to all! Cheers glad to see this in the old year!
A very nice surprise from you, Max. I didn’t think we would have another video until after the new year. Happy New Year from Ken in Alabama USA
Happy New Year Ken!
Hey, your channel and personality are fantastic 😊
Fair play mate. Good on ya ✌️
Thanks muchly, very kind!
Great work, new to channel and will continue to watch you bring this old coach house back to life. Wishing you many more subscribers in the new year.

Love the fact you’re standing on an antique treadle sewing machine! Any port in a storm what?
lol, great phrase - it’s actually an old mangle, I’m planning on using it as a table base
@@theroundcornerlooking forward to seeing it in future!
I did notice the improved video quality! Well done!
It’s only on the last couple of clips I used the new camera, still getting to grips with it
You don't do anything wrong, it's just different! Well done.

I swear! every time I watch you're an accident waiting to happen. Danger Boy!🤣 Happy New Year!!!!
Wow! That is a lot more work than the @campervibe ladies have to do to their old stone cottage.

Happy New Year!
Nice to see you back again I've missed you 😊
Great work mate, well done.

Coming along very nicely 👍
I really appreciate your honest commentary as you go along! All the best for 2025! Cheers from snowy mountains of 🇨🇦

No, the wood fibre stays dry. It allows any water that it stores to escape

HNY! It’s not thankfully, looks to be the original lime render / plaster.
Have the neighbours said anything about the noise ?
Enjoying the journey. Can you give links to your solar system or a video explaining concept with divert to immersion heater. Ty
That’s one for next year once I’ve sorted the electrical gubbins out.

Just as well it is an huge room - you can afford to loose quite a bit with all the thicknesses of those many & various layers.
True, shouldn’t come out too much in comparison to a stud wall though. You must’ve watched the video late 🦉

Yeah I was wondering if the brackets are really adding any strength since the beams are sitting on the bricks anyway. Good channel glad I found it!

@@theroundcorner thank you , I was very concerned hope the build goes well for you .
Can you tell me if the walls can breath through that stuff??
Can the fumes from the lime burn you ?

Bloomin’ ‘eck!
no goggles is diabolical
put some safety glasses you get that lime in your eye you will know about it speaking from experience
slow going, but looks good!
I do hope that you are not struggling with building regs!
I’m supposed to cover the exposed beams downstairs with sound insulation & fire board 😕
