I thought these guys were weenies compared to space marines but they have their own shit that kinda makes them even more badass is some ways. It's when the little man faces his death without all the extra organs, armor, etc. where you can really find respect for these killers.
Its easy to charge an Ork if you are 3m tall, have 2 hearts and wear a tank with a 1-ton chainsaw. kinda more brave to do the same if you re just a regular guy with a bayonett lol

Agreed, especially since the imperial guard, along with the sisters of battle, produce the most living saints (to my knowledge the sororitas are also fairly standard humans).
I sometimes see people saying things like "this standard human outperforming a space marine? that can't happen", and it makes me mad every time I see it. Accomplishment is not a direct result of your power level, it is what you make happen with what you got.
In fact, being limited sometimes pushes a person to achive greater things. Ellen Ripley is by definition less powerful then a colinial marine, yet she accomplishes the greater feat.
This is why my absolute favourite type of person (both in fiction and in real life) are people with disabilities who find ways to overcome them. I have a massive amount of respect for these people and I love seeing characters with these traits written well.
Hence why a have a soft spot for standard humans in 40k, both imperial guard and battle sisters, who survive this hellscape of a universe.
The imperial guard are the real heros of the imperium. The space marines just steal all the glory.
Checklist:
1) try not to get killed by xenos
2)try not to get killed by commissar
3) try not to get fucked/killed by daemons
4) try not to kill self with flashlight gun

All jokes aside, imagine how hardened a guy after 10-20+ year of service has to be when the avarage survival rate of Guardsmen deployed to a war zone can range from mere seconds to maybe days and at best weeks if the planetary administration isn't completly incompetent in matters of warfare ....
at that point the man has balls of the hardest material in the universe and the size of galaxies
After all the years the man or woman has endured, any veteran of war needs to truly be given more than just another war.

The image at 09:30 in the video perfectly illustrates the respect even the Space Marines have for those fallen guardsmen, especially fallen veteran guardsmen. Space Marines know they have a decidedly larger upper hand in all combat, while the basic guardsman faces the same fearsome foes they do without hardly any augmentation, their bravery and tenacity is beyond even that of the Space Marines.
This is what makes Cadians so well respected, their homeworld cracked into pieces and yet the Cadians still stand and fight, the Emperor will reward them for their sacrifices upon his return.
Lmao meanwhile some fronts tend to be avoided by space marines because the death korps of krieg fights there and bombs the shit out of everything indiscriminately
It isn't so much that Cadians fight on after they lost their planet. It is that they fought WHILE it was cracking...
the space marine is a salamander too,they are known for how they value humanity and usually put the lives of others above their own
This sounds wholesome and cute but I think lore wise it’s very different.
90% of Space Marines could give less of a fuck about any normal person as they just see them as roadblocks most of the time. Most space marines have insane god complexes and tend to be huge assholes, there’s a reason why so many chaos marines exist.
This art is important though because although many marines don’t give a fuck about anyone the Salamander chapter lead by Vulcan are famously known for being extra kind to average citizens and people, going out of there way to support a normal human. The marine we see here is a Salamander.

I had read the entirety of the last chancers novels. The main character Kage survives he first novel which is a suicide attack by a penal legion... he gets a pardon and fucks it up within a week....

Yep, they did solve the problem. It is solved by the smoking barrel of a commissar's pistol. A merciful but albeit a degrading end for one with a broken mind who can no longer perform their duty on the battlefield for the glorious emperor of mankind.
Soldiers aren’t and/or rarely discharged (your unit has to do something EXTREMELY brave and important) any soldiers who show cowardice are either killed or forced into background roles, even then they still are under the watchful eye of those who see them as susceptible to chaos.
I love the apathy you give to these fictional characters as if they were alive. As a 13 year active duty member of the military I appreciate the care and love and thought you give to these videos. Well written and well spoken.

Question - How do Chaos Space Marines replenish their gene seed? They always seem to never lose any troops and always have a full army ready to do battle.

generally speaking, because they have fallen to chaos, their body and soul belong the chaos gods who can, on a simple whim as being bored, can simply destroy the body and have it brought back to normal as if nothing has happened, chaos runs basically on the worlds hate, space marines hate the traitors, eldars, demons and orks, and really, anything thats not human, so they have an endless amount of power to draw from to do whatever they please, why they simply cannot take over the world, because the warp still has a mind of its own, as some stories say a ship can go into a warp storm, dissapear for a hundreds of years, and if it happens to return with survivors, they could say its only been a few days, i relise this is a tangent, but that is the gist of my answer to your question
@chocolatesquirrel100 More like if one of those 4 grows more powerful, the others will conspire against it, that's the great game after all. It's often mistakenly assumed that chaos' main enemy is the Imperium/Emperor, but that is wrong, it is chaos itself.
Timothy Santora steal Gene seed and get recruits from masses of slaves. And of course traitor chapters. The Gods can also just rezz Chaos Marines. Plague Marines are pretty much smart zombies so they are very hard to kill anyways. Rubrics are rumored to be called back from the warp by powerful sorcerers. Berserkers and Noise Marines well... Look up Kharn and Lucius, there the best of there patron god so they cheat death on a daily basis which could apply to the others. One last detail,some of the traitor Legions and various warbands have there own small empires to maintain themselves.

actually the empror new about aliens when humanity did because before the imperium before the eldar fucked slaanesh into exitence humanity was a democratic science utopia were scince was looked at with a almost relgious devotion that no problem could not be solved by science and had near utopia or atleast normal scy fi quality of life among there worlds and technolgy that suprassed all of the imperium of man and made a robotic work force and miltary called the men of iron that was so powerful the eldar made peace deals and actual diplomacy with along with other alien powers then slaanesh happend all psykers went mad on worlds ftl became impossible the men of iron rose up in a skynet esk revolt and earth itself fell into war and dystopia only then in the irratied barbaric wastlands of earth did the emperor decide for the first time to directly take control and guide humanity which didnt work in the end

Suggestion, daily life in the Imperial Navy?
I'd imagine that being on a Navy ship is somewhat better than most other jobs in the Imperial military given your in a fairly secure environment. Everything from a light cruiser up represents a massive commitment of time and resources to build and they are not often risked even for entire planets.
Plus even as a menial rating you would actually have food, a dry place to sleep and time off given how many people most 40k ships keep on hand.
TL;DR for the ratings navy ships are self contained societies not engines of suffering and woe. If your being press-ganged from a hive you will probably experience an increase in quality of life as you are now valuable in some small respect.
I'd imagine officers and other crew members with actual value live lives that would make most noble families jealous.

I just love this about 40k. You only see in the advertisements the mighty space marines fighting against the foes of the imperium. But the Astra militarum are just normal Human beings and their lives are worth practically nothing. They really embody the grimdark aesthetic and they show the real threat of Chaos/Orcs/Tyranides/etc....
I appreciate the time and effort to explain the lore of 40K, I don’t play tabletop but love to listen to the lore. Thanks and great content.

Just started collecting 40k back in January when my GF got me the Know No Fear Box for my birthday, but I've already collected 2 and a half armies (Space Marine, Tau, a few Astra Militarum Boxes and an Imperial Knight which was a blast to paint). on an older imperial guard codex it was written that decommissioned imperial guard regiments can be used to colonize a planet, so its not 'war until you die' but the chance of survival must be minimal at best.
