One Owner 1967 Chevrolet C10 Farm Truck! Abandoned for 16 Years! Will It Run?!?

- Опубликовано: 18 сен 2024
- Late last fall I picked up this 1967 Chevrolet C10 pickup from the family of the original owner in northwestern North Dakota. They had placed it in a fence row in 2007 after 40 years of service on the ranch. Let's see if we can get the old small block to come back to life after a long slumber! If you're interested in purchasing this pickup it is in the as shown condition at the end of the video with the engine removed. This pickup has been SOLD! As always, thanks for watching!

C'mon, these trucks were junk when they were new. Fifty-five years has not improved them. That's what I don't get. Even if they were restored to like new condition, there is still no quality there.
That's just, like, your opinion man.
But they look cool.
Now that's a opinionated statement I wouldn't care to bet a million or more people would disagree with you on that
All, somebody's a chevy hater! They were junk when new? I would love to see proof of that statement! The 67 through 72 gm trucks were number one in sales and beat ford and dodge out in longevity for many many years!
Yeah they're crap. That's why nobody wants them and they aren't worth any money and don't have a huge following. They also didn't last very long and weren't used by hundreds of thousands of people for a reliable work truck. Yeah no quality at all. And they sure haven't stood the test of time.
Mojo and Duff are killing it! Mortskes getting there anyhow.
Time for another LS swap... I swear he breaks these on purpose
Mojocraft lmao
Baby steps with Mortske 🤣🤣🤣
He definitely need some power washin lessons, no arm swing......
@@justinsane7128 ... Mortske ain't got the "hair in the wind" effect down either like Puddin does 🤷♂️🤣🤣
Always good when mortskes internet works and RUclips ain't dragging him and duffers down!
Duff is the same color scheme as the C10--how neat is that!😆
😂yep
I have a 1951 Henry J in the garage. 351w, 3 spd w/od., 8 inch rear w/spool.
That's awesome!
Learned how to drive in a ‘67 short wheel base step side. Dark green with a white top no trim anywhere. Good times, great memories.
Awesome!
Streamlined! Only 34 minutes to finally get a battery hooked up.
Just for you!

@Tony- 70’s rock rules!!!
Good enough for the grilles we go with..
Mornings with Mortske and Duff!!!
Little friendly advice, if you are trying to rock a rig against the trans to unlock said engine, it is better to put it in high gear and you will get more torque for the push at the crank. Low gear makes it easier for the engine to move the rear end, high gear makes it easier for the rear end to to move the engine. Tech tip of the day ;)
Wow, if I didn't see it with my own eyes I wouldn't of believed that thing fired off for a couple of seconds it did! A dingle berry hone, a new set of replacement pistons and rings close to the same weight and put her back together. Top it off with a set of 305 Vortec heads, a genuine imitation RPM Airgap style intake, a 4bbl of your choice and cam it to your needs and you'll have a great little runner.
When you try to get the engine moving by rocking it in gear, try 4th gear. There's less resistance because it'll be turning the engine slower in a higher gear. I know this from push starting motorcycles. I really love these trucks, had a 69 with the 396 th400

Mr Mortske, you're a life saver 👌
Hope it gets better!
Definitely some Mojocraft decals 👍🏻. So that’s where all the grills went!
Yes, on the Mojocraft, he deserves all the credit and merch.
He sure does!
A truck that straight and dry out here on the east coast is like gold!
Sad to see a low mile engine killed by just being parked in a field. At least the engine can be saved, and the body is worth saving also. Great episode.

Years ago my uncle had a 52 Henry J, you could also order a Henry J from Sears & Roebuck renamed as an Allstate.
That's what this one is
I have a 69 I saved same color/trim style. Looks like it’s brother. It’s so rusty in roof I decided to just make it a beater bracket race truck. Fun fun.
That’s a solid truck to dump an engine in and enjoy. No worrying about beating it up and do a little here and there for someone. And the bright side is you didn’t have to do brakes, again.
Can't see the haters though all that snow buddy! Keep up the good work!
Will do!
The banking system might crash but duff is the best dog
That truck is definitely worth a rebuild in my opinion! I love those trucks, I wish I would have kept the ones I had. As always, Great video and I thank you for sharing it with the rest of us! 😊👍
Absolutely!
I was watching Brent of "Halfass Kustoms" he said he was doing the "Mortske flick" yesterday on a Model T.
I started watching him several months ago when you mentioned his channel. He seems like a awesome guy to be around who loves his family and his dog Pablo.
Too bad he lives so far away, he would be a great guy to meet. Thanks for sharing your video.
He's a good dude!
Seen that aswell.
I've seen a few use the "Mortske Flick" on RUclips, it's now a well known procedure!
Tom, it was common in the 1970's and 1980's to put later model smog heads on 1960's engines to be able to run regular unleaded gas. The smog heads lowered the compression ratio and had induction hardened exhaust valve seats for no lead gas. Your heads being later than 1971 should use 5/8" tapered seat spark plugs and not the gasketed 13/16" plugs. If these do have 1.72" intake valves then these heads came off of a medium duty truck 350 (school bus, dump truck, C60 etc.).
I so want the Shagen wagon When I was a teen I so wanted a Henry J to make a drag car out of. That is one good looking old 67 Chevy. I was born in 67 . It would be nice to see some one fix up this old classic truck.
The best security is an organized shop where you know where everything is and what it is. Good job.

Really cool how you stocked up on projects when the weather was nice.
Like a squirrel gathering nuts!
What a shame that engine is toasted. But on the bright side, a great one to rebuild. The truck also is really in good shape. As always great program Mort. Take care and be safe. 👍
Nice spoiler.
I'm the third owner of 1967 short bed factory black paint w/side moldings I was told that chrome bumper and grille wasn't available till late in the year also 67 was the first year that a heater was standard.
Awesome!
Great video ! Too bad it was broken but sounds like you have a rebuild plan ! Take care Duff and Sir !
I have always enjoyed the forensic "what went wrong" you do on these videos.
Glad you enjoy it!
Well 'm up to where you're pulling all the pieces of the piston out of the bottom of the motor,,,," Ran when parked"....I guess when yur on the side of the road with a blown motor technically "yur parked"
My friends thought I was crazy, when I tell them about the Henry J's. I was in Nebraska and seen one in person. Henry J's were made in the willow run plant in Michigan . I enjoy your videos , and lets not forget Duff Dawg!.
Awesome!
Note to self: If you store a vehicle, especially outside, might wanna plug up the exhaust as well as the intake. Wow....I was surprised it ran for just the short time it did. I think the truck is worth keeping. The patina is cool, and it's still really solid. Those snow tires are worth keeping If you sell, they look like they're still good. Thanks for sharing Mort! It's like what I've always said, sometimes you have to prove things to people because they just don't get it. But most of the time I tell them "See that station, yeah, that's where you can get off at....I do it my way" Keep up the good work!
Sir Morticus,
Love the “by the power of Greyskull”, cracks me up every time. Yes, your pain is my entertainment. Hoisting (not lifting) one to you!
I enjoyed this video. I bought a 1968 K10 brand new. Had a 327 with 3 on tree. Drove daily until about 99 when I got a new pickup. It never left me stranded. The ol 327 still runs strong but she's smokey. Just an old yard truck now. Too rusty and not road worthy
You never see a 3 on the tree 4WD! Awesom!
@@MortskeRepair oddball for sure, most 68 4x4's i remember seeing were mostly 4 spd. Think the transmission is a saginaw SM318 4 bolt side cover, tiny little bugger. 69 or 70 they switched to a bigger 7 bolt side cover 3 speed. some day i'd like to find a nice body to swap on my frame.
for those who critisize your work maybe they should getan old car and start their own channel and see how easy it is to work on and film a video at the same time. i love your work
I concur
Emotional rollercoaster! Bummer about the outcome. Still a great truck for somebody. Enjoyed the video as always, keep em coming. 😃
Professor!
You are a treasure trove of automotive history, facts, and how-to.
But, I'm just here for the Muff-cam.
So, bring it!
Thanks.
Every time I see that by the power of greyskull I can’t help but laugh! That has to be at least as good as your hot sauce bottle catching on fire.
Glad you enjoy it!
Mojocraft! Love it! The Henry J was Kaiser-Frasier's attempt to build and sell a small(er) inexpensive automobile when most Americans weren't interested in that. It was woefully underpowered with it's Willys flathead 4 and too spartan for post-WWII American taste. Sold from '51 - '54 although the '54's may have just been leftover '53's. They had a lot of surplus...
Oooh...2 Henry J doors. Well on your way to building a gasser! lol (I posted this before you said you wanted the engine for a gasser. Great minds and all that. haha)
To spite what the internet says. I think you're doing a fine job tow trucking. On the bright side, at least you didn't load that motor up with fresh fluids. The cups half full and Greta's happy.
If I didn't mishear your inventory of available parts, it might be a good side project to build the truck for resale using some of the parts you listed. In running condition, it would be worth considerably more than your asking price as it sits. If nothing else, it would be good second channel content and the selling price would keep you in sammiches and Duff in treats for a year or so.
We're keeping that option open!
I agree. I'd love to see another engine go in it
@Mortske Repair the valve somewhere in the compression tester hose possibly has crap in which is y it blead down 👍
That was a bummer. That's my favorite year. I can't believe that thing actually ran for a minute. Got my merch today so I'll be wearing it to work tonight. 🤟
Awesome thanks!
It actually ran for a little bit even with all that damage. Another great video. That truck is in pretty decent shape and you have a nice motor to rebuild. Keep having fun 👍✌️🇺🇲

Internal combustion cannot run without fuel, spark and compression when needed.. Prove me wrong. Love you, man!
Another great video, it was a bummer that we had to leave it without a revival. There’s always next Monday. 😊
Love the new shop. I couldn't deal with that much snow. Spring will be over before all that snow disappears.
Favorite Chevy truck ever. Another great video mortske !

Hey I think it's a little sus that some you tube revivalists never get bad engines. I think it's cool to see some of them show people what you're really up against.
Funny how "reality" works for some big shots versus the rest of us!
I agree with you. When I was pulling cars out I was lucky to have about half of the engines being any good. But yet on utube the engine is seldom bad .
@@MortskeRepair absolutely true 👍. Have you ever tried putting gear oil into the cylinders of engine with low compression? I had a old timer show me that trick when I was 16 . You just put a little bit in the cylinder careful not to use to much. It helps to get the compression up to get it to fire up. You probably already know this trick .
Love the Dash in these Trucks. The big round gauges are Awesome. I got my License in a 70 C10 back in 90
A Henry J door means they come off a automobile built by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation and named after its chairman, Henry J. Kaiser.
Good stuff!
I had a piston separate at the wristpin om a factory rebuilt Pontiac 400. It happened on base at MCAS Beaufort, SC, the engine died at about 15-20 mph when I went to downshift for a stop sign. The engine probably had about 5000 miles and had not been raced nor revved too high. I started the engine up and noticed that it felt down on power, drove about 1/4 mile to a parking lot, checked the points (dual point distributor) then had a friend tow me out to his house to diagnose it further. Was bumping the engine over to recheck points and TDC when it suddenly 'clunked'. Tried the starter again and noticed that the fan turned but the rotor on the distributor didn't. I found the cam journal area had a gaping hole at about #5 piston area, a missing section of camshaft that was in the same region plus a hole in the block where the rod had sought daylight. This was all done just with the starter motor. I guess the lower skirt had fallen out of the bore as I was being towed which set me up for failure. Built a stealth 'full race' Chevy 350 to replace the Pontiac engine. It looked pretty much stock but had 12:5 to 1 Manley pistons, Big lift Crane Cam, etc, etc. Ran good enough to require a Muncie M22 because it ate 1st gear out of the M21. I still have the shattered piston top, held together with the rings & the section of the cam from the Pontiac 400 as 'souvenirs'.
Interesting!
damn i would buy it if i wasn't on the east coast
Duff is the expert on the 67 68 Chevy trucks i like the ones w leaf springs .
How much for the shagon wagon ?
1200
Mortske has the most REAL knowledge and common sense Channel on RUclips.
Will say it is nice to you only quarter ass things this time instead of half ass or full ass.
1/4's better than nothing buddy
Better than being a dumb a**😆buddy...
if you dont like it then watch something else
I tapped into the quarter ounce right before I got started and this was the most emotion filled episode yet atta boy mortske
A quarter 'Ass' (hybrid donkey) is smarter than a full 'Ass'.
I have a couple of these trucks and a few square body 75 to 78 trucks Drive the square bodies and forget about those low nickel blocks that were to soft to save always needed bored with a tear down. Those heads with the compresson copper rings on spark plugs usually not good choice to save. You done a lot of hard work for this video. Appericate your showing every thing.
Here's a helpful tip,put a bar of Irish Spring. I cut in quarters and put in several places. If it doesn't work for you, give Duff a bath, lol!
I've heard that works

That was one of the more interesting engine stories Ive seen on RUclips. Mice do a lot of damage that I would never have guessed at.
This truck was a base model, that happen to get ordered with the side trim, the grille and bumper are white painted, no custom badge on the doors, vent windows are black instead of chrome. 67 is last year the passenger sun visor was an option. 16’s we’re optional but those are original because in 67 the steel wheels were painted body color to match truck. Also in 67 the white roof didn’t extend down the a pillars or top of the window frame of the doors. It’s a beautiful truck even with the whiskey dents it’s still super cool. A football/basketball inbetween panels can air up and pop out some of the dents without having to mess with the paint
Thanks for the info!
to me the best grill in da garage is whats on the front of the white wrecker. very attractive. good show mort thanks,,
I love it, my grandpa had one, white over a dark green. I drove it lots!😁 number 5 is not alive!😅
That starter is a champ.
sure is!
Hi sweetie. MamaCard checking in. I’ll get to see you again tomorrow!
Man and his dog, rigs and wrenches…nostalgia and dreams
That's a sharp looking truck. That would be a good project for somebody.
agreed
a power washing you make me so proud
Hey Mortske and Duff 👋, well Duff didn’t get a ride this week. But it was a good video. The truck was in decent shape. Dang mouse was the enemy this time. Have a great week ahead 👋
Same to you!
My old man had a 68 with a 307 3 in the tree. I took my driver's test in it. I loved that rig. Thanks for another great Mortske Monday... and thanks Chin 🐾🍺
Good times
When i was a TWEEN/teen in the Early to Mider late 1970s, We had one of these SAME brown Rust color C10 long box inline 6 with a 3 on the tree..Back Then on a Quiet night, you could Hear A Fibby Rusting...
My first vehicle was a 70 gmc .. kinda takes me back..
It's kinda smart to keep all those hard to find grilles around. If you ever need them for a project, you will already have them, and they are a wise investment as well, since they will only go up in value over time.
Reading a thriller in Braille is much more exciting. You can just feel something is going to happen.
Definitely on the “Mojocraft”!
Not too many of the all steel trucks left. Had a 64 with a 283. Easy rebuild. It's definitely worth it.
God bless all of you guys.. Coming out of your way to help those folks out . I actually work that area over a decade i know all those crazy curves and small streets.. Not an easy task
This reminds me of a '67 C10 one of my high school teachers had. It had no rust but some dings and dents. Had a 6 cylinder with 4-speed. His son was a good friend of mine in my class. Unfortunately, you could crank her up without a key and some kids figured that out. It was stolen one night and found a few days later at a high school parking lot with no engine. I wish I'd had the foresight to buy that thing from him because as far as I know they hauled her off to salvage. That old truck would've been a real gem. Just slip a small block in it and go. Oh well.
Been there done that withh old engines you don't know what's going to happen especially when they sat for years in the Rust Belt area. Thanks Chin, Duff,Mojo and of course Mortske, for putting the hard work into making a show for us every week Thank you.
Going back to my place in Alaska but my family is here in Idaho and I've got trucks & equipment going on the farm, I'm leaving but the mice, the starling they're Birds, spiders left impact on me not just the pee smell but the spiders as well that's not a problem where I live in alaska like the Lower 48 has. No snakes either. Alaska shares the one thing with the Rust Belt is old Vehicles rust to dirt there too.
I guessed $3,000..but $2,500 is a great deal! Would be a cool build for the channel but do you.... you do a great job providing quality entertainment
For what it matters. You're one of my favorites on the internet
Much appreciated!
Good one Mortske!👍👍! Shame that engine took a dump!!!
Thank you for sharing and your APPRECIATION to your subscribers Mortske
Our pleasure Dan!
Its well worth a second life it's amazing it ran as long as it even did as bad as it was that's amazing in its self it even started and ran like that love a old chevy
Rat pee aka sul'furr'ic acid. Next best thing to will it run, is a tear down to why it didn't run. Also yes I would definitely buy a "Mojocraft" tee-shirt! You ,Duff and Mojo Keep up the good work !
Nice Truck Mortske Would love to see you build the 55 Chevy Gasser
Love me some old chevy trucks , especially one converted to a 6 . 0 . L S ENGINE , God bless yall real good.
Regarding the tow truck, never be afraid to suck at something new. That’s my motto. Cheers!
Totally love this truck. It’s my favorite. I’m sure you’re going to make it great again. Dang roof.
No one beats these guys….
Had high hopes for that engine, she had all the makings for a good crankcase fireball, good times from the past. That motorhome engine and trans sure ran well, possible transplant since this autopsy didn't have a good outcome.
Happy Mortske Monday! Definitely vote for Mojo stickers shirts and hats! Mojo Certified!
Cool to see that troubleshooting contest trophy! A childhood friend of mine, his father was a high school auto shop teacher would take a few students and win small and large trophies like that one. I used to look at them all the time. It seemed like he won every year for years in the sixties and seventies and the were tall trophies! I thought I would never see one again. I remember it because of that car, which I thought were the weirdest cars.
Henry J was a compact car made by Kaiser Frazier, I believe ,in early fifties. (Named after Henry J. Kaiser).
Be Well , and thanks for the great videos.
