And did you have to do some extra stuff like load other software to make the Imac work correctly?
Subtitles should NOT be "burned ⁄⁄ rendered ⁄⁄ etc." WITH-IN the Video itself. The best way is to add them SEPARATELY to the video. That way, the Transcription-Tex is editable, which means: MORE viewers INTERNATIONAL, since they would translate the TEXT only to their Native Languages ⁄⁄ Mother-Tongue. On YOUR end: more LIKES and potentially more SUBSCRIPTIONS.
I'd argue this is one of the best repair guides I have ever seen! Nicely done MicBergsma!
CyclingSargentBeardface Thank you very much! 🙌🏼
I enjoyed seeing the sign language as well. Made the video very different from others.
Definitely YES !
@@WarriorsPhoto That's true !
@@MicBergsma Yeah it's great. Imagine my suprise when I found it googling :-)
As a former apple tech, it’s nice to see such a thorough, detailed instructional video. Nice job!
Good question: is there a kind of list showing different informational icons / images and their meaning that can pop up after turning on an iMac, and after the apple & file / iOS loading icon / image appear? Thank you 🤓
This is probably one of the clearest and easiest to follow repair video I've ever seen. Probs to you my friend!
i just watched this on my tv, and thought the video was so good, i had to log in to my computer and thank you for posting this. other tutorials are twice as long and offer a lot less. you're killing it dude. thank you for this video!
You're welcome!! Thank you for the comment!
You are an excellent communicator. That is the best demonstration of the mechanics and connections for this job that I have seen yet! Now I'm going do my thermal paste restoration actually knowing what the connectors and screws look like.
Very heartening for a techie-noob to see a video that's clear, succinct and approachable.
It just shows that with some clear-headed focus, patience (and a few of the right tools) you can do yourself what a shop would charge you over £250 to do.
Thank you, MicBergsma.
"Brevity is the soul of wit", and all that...
I'm not deaf....yet! Butt loosing my hearing due to loud noises over the years. I really appreciate the overlay of captions and the mapping of screws and cable locations. I've done technical work all my life and this is a VERY refreshing how to video tutorial! I appreciate all the effort you put into this.
I acquired a A1312 emc 2429. Complaint was loss of video, I noticed that it was really hot exhaust air coming from it, I hit it with compressed air and started it up and ran a video test video for over 24 hours and never lost video. The exhaust temp was upwards of 130° . I put the thing on the shelf, recently I order some thermo paste Arctic Silver to reapply to all the heat-sink surfaces. I wanted to refresh my memory about getting into this machine when I came across your video. Thank you!
This is one of THE BEST how to videos I've ever seen! Excellent camera work, highlighting the screws, the way you "wiggle" a piece a few times before removing...etc! Excellent job and thank you!
I just did the graphics card bake, it works. This video was a huge help and I agree with those who say this is one of the best out there. The one thing I really didn't appreciate when taking things apart was just how many different connector types that a Mac has. And, you'd think they would all go in the same way but nothing could be further from the truth. What would help greatly - and this video shows it best - who be an actual drawing showing this little tiny connector that you put in when reinserting the graphics board. It took MicBergsma two minutes, for us mere mortals it took over 30. I finally brought in my wife who has much slender fingers and can handle a set of tweezers better, it still took her over 15 minutes. Thanks MicBergsma for a great video.
This is - without hyperbole - the best executed repair video I have come across YT so far. Chapeau and thank you!
Wow, thanks!
This is by far the best video I've seen of disassembling an iMac and how each cable is unplugged and put back. Thanks so much.
I have a deaf friend in real life, and he is my best friend, I am happy, that there are people "different" on RUclips. Thank you very much friend! :) I loved your video, and how you explained
That's pretty cool!! 😄🤙🏼 Thank you and you're welcome! 🙌🏼
This excellent guide shows a clear understanding that most folks, even those experienced with electronics, can be tripped up by seemingly little details, which he goes out of the way to demonstrate. Outstanding video and application of visual aids!
Hello
Thank you for your great video, it was precious to me to repair my iMac 27" late 2009. Once the subset containing the graphics card extracted, I removed the graphics card, and its old thermal paste and have bake it for 8 minutes at 200° C. Then new thermal paste, reassembly at all and hop, it works!
Cheers !
Jean-Yves (from France)
This is absolutely the best, most well laid out repair video I have seen. It gives me confidence to attempt a repair on mine once I can secure a replacement video card.
I usually struggle with these 'how to fix' guides but this one is so simple and clearly presented even i managed without screwing up.
Very informative and well recorded. Especially the visibility of the removal of the screws and cables is very helpful. Thanks!

Super helpful video, thank you! Just replaced mine and brought my mid-2010 iMac 27" back to life. So satisfying to fix things.
@@AtypicalDriver you’re welcome awesome great to hear!! 😄🙌🏼
You sir MicBergsma are fantastic! Your video helped me tons replacing the graphics card on my 27" 2010! The only struggle was getting that graphics card sensor back home! Frustrating but got it done in the end. Happy New Year to you my friend!
This video should be required watching for anyone wanting to make a "how to" tutorial of dismounting any gear... 5 stars... attention to detail is just what a diy-er would need.
One of the best guides for replacing the graphics card so far! There are really many other guides doing this much more complicated by unmounting the mainboard, which is not necessary.
The smartest guy on RUclips!!!!
Excellent repair video. One of the best I've seen.very clear, straightforward. Beautiful lighting and sharp focus. New subscriber for sure!
Have you tried repairing the card before replacing it? Often to fix that one would need to clean the paste off the card, bake it at 200 for 8 minutes, let it cool, re-apply the paste and put it back together. This has worked twice so far for me.
What did you do with the card that was removed?
Amazing video by the way. Absolutely the best guide yet!
Struggled to get the temp sensor in for almost and 1hr and I finally found this video and found it I was trying to do it the wrong way 😂. Thanks for the close up I really appreciate it!
I'm glad you wrote that it's the 2010 model iMac. I have the 2011 and the graphic card removal is COMPLETELY different, like, the WHOLE LOGIC CARD needs to be lifted out! Please emphasis this difference between the models, if you know.
Thanks for the comment. Two 2011s here to disassemble and bake GPUs 😞
The best guide of GPU swap on iMac I've ever seen. Thank you, buddy!
What a legend. This video helped me replace my faulty graphics card. Very easy to follow and helpful instructions.my mac is alive again. 👍
im almost 3 yrs later on this video, but i must say...i do agree that this is the best, or one of the best and clearest video of a hardware upgrade ive seen from start to finish. anyone know if a graphics card in an imac between 2012-2015 will work in an imac 27 2010?
Yeah bro not going to lie. Been researching this issue for my 27 inch iMac 2011 and this has to be the best version of swapping the graphics card. Thank you. You’re a genius. 🤝
Mate great video! I just came across your video because of my iMac and I have my hearing, but I think most youtubers could learn plenty about presenting through video from you. Camera, lighting, instruction, diagrams, text, entertainment, everything mate. Brilliant! I'm going to check out your other vids. Keep it up.
One of the best iMac repair videos Ive ever seen! Thank you and keep up the good work!!
michael diaz thank you for the comment!! You’re welcome and I will! 😄🤙🏼
Hello, I'm french, very very good, THE BEST guide of GPU swap on iMac I've ever seen !!! Thanks a lot...
Your instructions are amazing, my computer just died on me I get only white screen any suggestions
Thank you for the detailed video guide, when I open mine up, I thought I had to remove the motherboard in order to replace it.
That was a sweet video man! My Mac's graphic card died and repair place wanted a lot of money to replace. If I buy one on my own, this is definitely the how to video I will use. Very clear and easy to understand.
My mid2010 iMac display has started to glitch, in that horizontal lines or banded flashes of bright light appear randomly appear in different places, randomly appear in time. Just wondering if it is the graphics card mulfunctioning? Is this what happened to you? Thanks in advance.
VERY HELPFUL!! I didn't find a new graphics card, but I found on youtube some crazy guys who baked the card at 200 celsius for 8 minutes.
And with your help, I managed to take it out and put it back in without problems. PS: The baking actualy worked :-) - for now... Thanks
Bro, this has to be the easiest install for this iMac I've seen so far, I have the same one, going to replace the ati gpu with 880m 8gb, all other videos i have watched had to take the entire motherboard out, appreciate your video, I know it's an older video but, very helpful nonetheless thanks !!!!
Glad I could help!
Great Video... exactly like 2-3 years ago when i wanted to upgrade it, same now for replacing my ruinned superdrive i used your amazing guide!
Thank you once again! You re amazing.
I have to say this was a very detailed and the camera work was one of the best. great job.
And all these years I was lead to believe you couldn't replace the graphics card for the iMac 2010! Thank you so much! Now I just need to find out what the best graphics card for my computer is. lol
I did all this but now the screen doesn't turn on. But the computer still sounds like it runs. Is there a plug that makes the screen work?
I find this guide particularly helpful, because it it is precise, fast-pacing, with clear lighting/ good camera angles. ... it is particularly good on visual communication such as gesture, facial expression on important tips, and also the little tips that makes the complicated components parts life-like clear!~... make dangerous points very memorable!
Very good video :D (BTW, i just did this on my 2009 iMac! thanks man!!)
Great video - I was wondering whether it matters which model iMac it is? Does the process change much between year models?
Thank you amigo :). Definitely the best guide on how to disconnect and connect the cables on an iMac.
I have a late 2009 iMac in need of a new graphics card (burned out in the middle of playing Halo!).
Your video is so clear it gives me hope I can replace it myself. Thanks.
Ok this is fantastic and I can't wait to fix my 2011 imac 27 inch... is it the same process? Can I use the same card?
Two tips: please don't use the bubble plastic sheet due to the static electricity accumulating in them; and make sure there is absolutely NO hair or anything on either LCD screen or glass cover. Otherwise, they will drive you crazy!
It's too bad that you didn't choose to replace HDD with SSD at the same time. The 1TB SATA-III SSD isn't as expensive as you think. Switching to SSD does improve the iMac's performance ENORMOUSLY! It's like getting a second wind for my eight-year-old iMac. Please don't wait until the HDD fail.
I replaced the original HDD in my Mid-2010 iMac 27" three years ago. The HDD was starting to exhibit the forthcoming HDD failure (the same warning code repeating in Console and increasingly incessant beach ball spinning).
I didn't have the suction cups and wasn't going to pay for them when I would use them once. I used the thinner plastic driver's licence to pry the glass cover off the body. I held my breath the whole time because I was afraid of breaking the cover or LCD screen. I couldn't believe how HEAVY the LCD screen was! I also used this opportunity to clear the accumulated dust with compressed air.
To this day, my iMac performs flawlessly, and I don't see the need to replace it soon.
Great video, by the way!
Hey InTeCredo!
Thanks for the tips! Good to know about bubble plastic sheet thing.
Ah yeah I almost bought SSD to replace but decided to wait a little bit... WD or Samsung? can't decide which to get..
That's pretty cool about driver's plastic trick! Yeah I wouldn't buy suction cups just for this project... camera suction cups works great haha.
Yeah I was surprised how heavy LCD screen was... wondering if the newer LCD screen in 2015 and up is lighter? I haven't tried one yet.
That's awesome to see 8 years old iMac working very well! I don't see myself selling it at all yet too!
Have a good day!
This is the best and most detailed gpu replacement video. Many thanks Gopro dude :)
Great video. I have been replacing my mid 2010 logic board on my 27" iMac. I somehow have an extra tiny cable that needs a home along the top of the logic board. Do you have another video showing closeup all the connectors of this logic board? Or even pictures?
HI MicBergsma,
I am really appreciated your video. Full of patient and very detail easy to following
Van Han
Cant wait to do this on my desktop...will this work also on the late 2009 model as well?
Superb video. I'm actually looking for details about a 2008 Graphics Card repair and can't find any info on that. Nevertheless, your video is very helpful and the simplest I've seen to follow.
Well done and thank you 👏
Great guide!! The last cable you removed from the motherboard (?) just before you removed the LCD screen was thin / small! The new GPU, was it an upgrade to the old one? A replacement, yes, but was it a step up? Thank you 🤓 yeah! Just read your short note from 512 to 1GB!
For real, you are the real MVP!!! i watched a few videos before this and you made this look so easy compared to what i saw. Keep doing your thing!!
Thank you Raymond!
Excellent video, you explain all the steps perfectly and with high precission images, thank you!!!!
You're very welcome!
Amazing! Perfect guide, I had no idea it’s so easy to replace the video card, thank you so much! ❤️
This sets the bar for how-to videos!
Thank you sir 💃💃💃
Now is 2020 do you still recommend a iMac 27 mid 2011 I wanna buy one
Imac 2011 with upgraded video card in order to support METAL function.
iUrbex iUrb hi what does that mean as I would like to replace mine also?
@@lovebeingawake8549 whats your motherboard model number or iMac version( an example A1312,etc..)? Mojave, Catalina support METAL video card for graphic acceleration.

@@iurbexiurb6637 Hi , Thanks for reply . Model No. A1312 Serial W80442LFHJX. RUNNING SIERRA. Is that info useful?
I'm replacing my logic board and just needed to see how to SAFELY remove the graphics card to install on my new board. You should do one on how to remove the CPU and put into another board (I kid, I kid).
Thanks for sharing this! Very well-executed and easy to understand.
Hello good night
I have a problem with my 27 inch imac, mid 2011
Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro
The AMD Radeon HD 67970M 124 MB HD Graphics card no longer works
can you help me which model of graphics card to change
What if they put the screws that hold the graphics card bracket in the wrong way? It looks like the screws are in backwards and need to be unscrewed from the other side behind the motherboard! Help!
Thank you for this video. Very easy to follow but looks to complicated for me attempt. I will need to take it to a professional.
I just needed to know how to get into mine to replace the PSU Board, excellent easy to follow instructions, thanks!
It is very easy to see how to do. I will try to upgrade my old iMac mid 2010 graphic card following this video. Thanks bro.
I must say your video is very easy to follow and well explained! I have a 21.5 inch Mac desktop, and yesterday I got the dreaded black screen. I have completed all the "helps" needed to reset, and still nothing. Apple says more than likely its the graphic card, (crying). Im currently trying to locate someone in my area to repair it, but I did see through research that the 2010 had a recall? Do you know how I can get anymore info on that? Apple failed to tell me this also, imagine that?
Finally someone who doesn't dismantle the whole iMac just to swap the graphics card! Old card out, new card in.
Great guide even for complete noobs, fun video, 5 stars .-D
I was so confused by other video. This video helped my ADHD mind to understand things so clearly. Thanks!!!
You didn't pop an SSD in while you were in there? ;) Great channel BTW!
Ahh yes I almost did... but trying not to spend more money right now... saving up for a big move later this year :-O Thanks!
The problem is the mount is too small. I have an old 60GB OCZ SSD taped in mine lol.
If anyone does try and update to an SSD, emergency boot OSX from a USB stick to format the drive. I couldn't set the partition table in my Linux and wasted sooooo much time with it :(
@@MicBergsma Did you buy a new mac (and what)? :D
Excellent clarity. Just wondered did you carry out any benchmarks before and after?
Amigo you are the best. Clean and simple and to the point.
You are a man of many talents sir! I'm a subscriber and didn't expect to find you when researching this hardware problem. Great video!
can put NVIDIA GTX 765M, or better?
It is your first time doing this Mic? Great job!
Alfredo Avila yes thanks! I couldn’t find a good video anywhere so I made one haha... I replaced a hard drive on iMac 24” long time ago too. Fun project! 😄🤙🏼
Super gut erklärt, die einzelnen Abläufe so kann ich es mir vor stellen, wissen Sie denn ob man eine andere Grafikkarte verbauen kann die selben Anschlüsse Vorraussetzung ??
Any chance you can do similar video with mid-2011 27" iMac? It's substantially different in terms of connector layout
Successfully Showing The tiny detail, very helpful, strongly recommend
Thanks Micbergsma! Easy step by step, I managed to do mine after following your guide....
Outstanding video! You gave me the confidence to attempt the GC replacement on my own! Thanks so much for the clear instructions. You ROCK!
At 4:50 you swap the GPU, but the link you gave us shows a completely different looking part. The part also has one bad rating and none others. I’m stuck now...
Please help
Well done . One question Do you use the EMC number to search for the graphics card you want to buy?
Great vid, quick question. What about on a 2011 27 inch iMac A1312, can I remove the gpu without removing the logic board?
Hey this worked amazingly well! Thank you.All the other videos were sooooo long and this was right to the point. Fixed my iMac so thank you again!
I gotta say Mitch... I am impressed! Excellent Job!
I loved it when you grew that 3rd arm to hold the lcd panel!😉
My iMac has vertical stripes that switch to a checkered glitchy pattern and it doesn't start up. Does that mean I have to replace the graphic card?
I had the same issue, it is common, you can start your computer in safe mode in case you need to access information. You can repair the graphics card, there is a RUclips video on how to do it, it worked for me and I saved money not buying another card
One of the best video tutorials I ever seen.
Thank you so much Agi!
Wow, why didn`t I find this channel sooner? Subbed immediately! Great job!!
Would the inside of a newer imac look the same? I have like 2015 imac
I needed this TODAY! What an amazing guide!
Awesome Video!!!! you should be a surgeon. Very precise, Very patient, Very good! thumbs up Micbergsma!!!!
MicBirgsma, thanks a lot for sharing this video, clear and simple. My mid2010 imac (27 inch, 2.8 GHz, Intel Core i5; ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB graphics) is showing signs of graphics card failure, horizonal bands appear at random vertical locations, at random times, happens every 10 seconds or so, appears as a flash. Now the challenge of finding a replacement card from a reputable source. I am wondering if it is simply a problem with the synch cable, that it just needs re-inserting, or that the fan (part of the graphics card assembly) is full of dust and not removing the heat well enough. No luck so far with new replacement card here in New Zealand where I live, still looking. Any help would be appreciated.
Love the video, where did you get the replacement GPU? Thanks a million
You didn't have to break the seal around the screen cover? Was that already done on a previous repair/upgrade on that machine?
Such a useful video. The best repair video I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos
Thanks for your video. I have late 2009 27" iMac and have same problem. Could you please send me the link for your new graphic card?
