Wow, thanks for the shout out/props... right up front there! Strider was a game I loved in the arcades/Sega back in the early 90's. Ever since then, I've had a "game dev bucket list" and "make something LIKE Strider" was on it. Fast-forward some 25 years and I got to do it. Strider is a love letter to all things Strider, incorporating Strider 1, 2, NES and parts of the MvsC, all in a "StriderVania" mix. Really glad you had a good time with it and I hope more poeple get to playing it!
Favorite genre let’s get it. Before watching this video I can almost be certain I own everything he’s going to list 😂 EDIT: I only have 5 of the ones he listed 😮. So many more Metroidvanias to play! Great video!
Good lookin out on strider, reg…got this game back in 2015…I use to play it for the action, and movement controls, I don’t care too much about the story to it, but lookin back, it’s a pretty solid action platformer for the PS4
I remember Strider 2014, i enjoyed that game very much as well. This was made by Double Helix for Capcom, supervised by Koji Oda. The original Strider is still the best in my opinion, but this was a good effort combining elements from the two original arcade games. In addition they also used some inspiration from the NES game, which had more exploration than previous installments. I hope Capcom revives this franchise, and take it to the next step by giving it a real 3D treatment like Devil May Cry, Souls or the Ninja Gaiden games.
He's definitely not wrong about strider! That game is sweet as hell! And if you can and like retro games check the og strider also! Another good Metroidvania is the messenger but it's different from others it's got levels you can explore once you unlock items! The music is bad ass! You switch times the old times look like a 8 bit NES game and future is 16 bit but looks like a SNES game!
You make great videos about so many games that many people overlook. I follow indie creators so I know of a lot of these games but I could guess that for anyone who doesn't just watching one video of yours they suddenly would have 5 to 10 games they want that they've never heard of. You're doing a great job, keep it man!!
Does anyone else having retrospective dejavu ? i did not know about the stryder game but now that i do .. will never shake off the feeling, that Metroid Dread is just re-skinned Stryder :D
You and me both... but I don't think they'd ever give a gaijin like myself credit for such a thing. Hell, as it stands most people always mention the Capcom Japan staff, when they mention my Strider 2014. Those guys were great, but they were mostly just giving a note or two every few months. Metroid Dread's pretty awesome, tho! And hell, I stared at Shadow Complex, Megaman-X and of course all the Striders, while making Strider 2014. It's all good. Everything influences everything else.
Agreed that was one of the best games Ive played recently and also Infernax. These two both reminded me of being a kid again and playing on the Nintendo, the nostalgia was insane! I hope we can get more games like this in the future.
...solid list, I really enjoyed the 2014 Strider. Dandara: Trials of Fear, Dust An Elysian Tail, Shadow Complex Remastered, Headlander, and of course Hollow Knight are all worth checking out as well imo.
Great list, mate! As a Metroidvania fan I'm ashamed to tell I knew almost none of these games (because I work a lot and have little time to play), but they all look stunning in regards to style, pixel-art graphics, music and gameplay. I'll definitely play them. Thank you so much for this video. Saved!
My personal favorites: Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Dread, Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Hollow Knight, Ender Lilies, Blasphemous 2. I'm looking forward to Silk Song and Crowsworn as well. Souldiers is one I couldn't make a decision on; because I love how it looks and sounds, but it's very long and lacking in a lot of areas.
Chasm is amazing, i play it through once a year. Jump controls are beautiful, gear with stats that stack, Def items that reduce dmg by exactly what is shown on scrolling combat text etc etc
@@The_RadicalOne we didn't "fold", we were bought by Amazon, after making Killer Instinct and Strider. I've since left Amazon and formed my own company, RetroNinja, so you never know what may happen... 😉
Glad to see though again a little funny that all the games you talked about here I also have and recently got.Though I do have to mention the Ori Collection which is a fantastic purchase where you get both games on one cartridge.
4:19 I picked up a physical copy of that game and Play Asia. I bought Iconoclasts through limited run games, I bought the SNES box edition and then years later I bought the switch version on eBay cheap I really want to go back and play these games again
Funny that you explicitly singled out Owl Boy as really really hidden, because that’s literally the only one in the list I knew about and I also think it’s quite well known 😂 Thanks for all the others, will definitely try some of these
Great list. I own all of these but Icey, La Lulanna, Gun Lord X, Cathedral, and Astro Nite. I will have to pick up Cathedral. I wanted to like Turrican, but it’s unplayable to me because I can’t stand how how you run so close to the edge of the screen in front of you. Chasm is really good; I just have too many games to go through it a second time though.
in terms of action platformers I also love inti creates and the mega man style - unless they are soulsvanias like blasphemous that I also love .... so I share ur same taste reggie ;) Strider and iconoclast I do not have.. I looked for it but I can find no physical for strider, is it on switch?
hate the term metroidvania, metroid has always been metroid, and castlevania eventually evolved into metroid anyways love these lists you come up with.
Some games i love and some i hate on this list. I really dislike Owlboy and Iconoclast, I have only ever sold about 10 switch games and these are two of them.
Mummy desmastered was great until I died in a room with too many enemies to ever defeat my new self...basically could not continue in the game anymore so I never played agian bc it would require starting from the dam beg...I HATE ROGUELITES
I've never liked castlevania when it was on the Gameboy and I have never seen a metroidvania game I can tolerate for an hour. I just hate side scrollers and platformers, I appreciate the effort but nope
You had me at Met-

Great job and man you’re an inspiration to a lot of us out there in many ways.
A lot of unique games on here and that owl boy graphics wow
Glad to see a really good list... especially without the of mentioning hollow knight.
The mummy Demastared is the spiritual sequel of that Alien game on DS. Both are fantastic.
I somewhat agree.

That Strider 2014 game is hard. I was stucked against one of the boss.. darn it !
Yes I've been waiting for a video like this specifically from you
Great list dude, a couple I need to pickup!

That record of lodoss war game was really good . Nice list man

I'd add Ori and the Will of the Wisps to this list. Thought it was a phenomenal game. The original game is also very good.
Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, the Bloodstained games, both Ori games, Shadow Compelx.
Infenax is absolutely a must have

Glad you mentioned theTurrican games love them and yeah the music is awesome especially Turrican 2.👍🏻
One I love is Dust: An Elysian Tale. I think more people should play that one. Also Blasphemous is fantastic.
Astalon: Tears of the Earth is another awesome masterpiece. For me it's a 10/10.
Agreed that was one of the best games Ive played recently and also Infernax. These two both reminded me of being a kid again and playing on the Nintendo, the nostalgia was insane! I hope we can get more games like this in the future.
I'm glad that some of these titles I can enjoy on my PSVITA
Gotta love em all. Good stuff reg. Love the content. Always makes me wanna play some SNES or NES..and then..we do.

All you need to play on this list is Astalon: tears of the earth and Infernax...the rest are mediocre
@@peterc504 Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try those two first.

100th Comment!! lol Thanks for the great vid. I have been watching a bunch of your content in the past few days... very interesting stuff.
this is a great list! some good hidden gems on here, thank you.
Strider is so good. Hopefully another one in the future ⚔⚔⚔
Unfortunately not by the company that made this version. They folded after this game came out.
@@The_RadicalOne we didn't "fold", we were bought by Amazon, after making Killer Instinct and Strider. I've since left Amazon and formed my own company, RetroNinja, so you never know what may happen... 😉
This is what makes the physical version that much more important to own. 👍🏿👍🏿
I love all those games. We enjoy the same kind of games. Great video man.
Been playing Infernax because of this video. Absolutely incredible game. Tough as nails but not cheap. Such a fun challenge!
Reggie always making my back log of games bigger lol
A lot of these look really good. I'm going to try out some of them.
Glad to see though again a little funny that all the games you talked about here I also have and recently got.Though I do have to mention the Ori Collection which is a fantastic purchase where you get both games on one cartridge.
Great video. I gotta recommend Aggelos, too. Loved that game.
There so many great games in this video its hard to know where to start.
So many bangers in this one!
4:19 I picked up a physical copy of that game and Play Asia. I bought Iconoclasts through limited run games, I bought the SNES box edition and then years later I bought the switch version on eBay cheap I really want to go back and play these games again
Has no one here played the recent Afterimage - the size of the map and list of secrets in that metroidvania blows almost every other out of the water
Dude!!!! Those 8&16 bit games look beyond gorgeous. Especially the Owl-game. I cannot buy, nor do i have the time for all that greatness!!!
I have the newer Strider digitally. It’s pretty sick. It’s not available physical anywhere, is it?
Only released physically in Japan and only a limited edition for PS3. I had to buy/import my own and I made the damn game! LOL
Funny that you explicitly singled out Owl Boy as really really hidden, because that’s literally the only one in the list I knew about and I also think it’s quite well known 😂 Thanks for all the others, will definitely try some of these
Interesting!
You didn't know about strider nor MegaMan zx??....
@@ericwarr9088 Actually yes, those I know, too.
I have all the Mega Man games on the Nintendo Switch 👍
Metroidvanias the original open world adventures!!
Axiom verge is a great game too
I played and loved 90% of the list and Chasm is awesome but I played it on the vita and it looked great on that little oled screen.
recent good one I've been playing is Ghost Song.. I Love Astronite so far.. it's such a tiny game too since it's "1 bit"
Yo you gotta try Astalon! It’s an awesome action adventure metroidvania. I think you’ll like it.
Great list. I own all of these but Icey, La Lulanna, Gun Lord X, Cathedral, and Astro Nite. I will have to pick up Cathedral. Nice list for real
Hahahha infermax lol nice you finished it that is all i need to see ill be on the look out for it
Shadow Complex! FTW!! ++++
Road to 100k, baby!
You gotta try Everblade! And Batboy is good too.

Do they have a physical release for strider?
Ps3 japanese
Chasm is a great game.persavere
This is my first digital download game for the PS3 and PS4 Strider. i don't know if they release a physical copy of the game.
In Japan for the ps3
Is strider 2014 digital only
No.
Cool deal Reggie
Icey is a great game.
Make your videos in chapters bro make it easy for your viewers 😅
No. But if you want to post time stamps I’m cool with that.
hate the term metroidvania, metroid has always been metroid, and castlevania eventually evolved into metroid
anyways love these lists you come up with.
Another recent one I picked up is Skul: The Hero Slayer. Haven’t had a chance to play it, but it looks like it is right up your alley.
That’s more of a roguelite. I’m not aware of any Metroidvania elements though I haven’t played it much.
Some games i love and some i hate on this list.
I really dislike Owlboy and Iconoclast, I have only ever sold about 10 switch games and these are two of them.
You forgot Steel Assault
I forget why but i never finished timspinners
Mummy desmastered was great until I died in a room with too many enemies to ever defeat my new self...basically could not continue in the game anymore so I never played agian bc it would require starting from the dam beg...I HATE ROGUELITES
You missed blasphemous reg. It's better than every game on this list, for me at least.
Nope. Didn’t care for that game
@@The_RadicalOne I see. So I'm guessing the lack of Hollow Knight and Ori on this list is also because you didn't like it?

Your list are legit I want the mummy remastered - looks dope as hell
