    Hi Chad, Good info. We had a 14 acre Chestnut and Persimmon Orchard in North Florida in the 90's.
    It was heartbreaking to knock blooms and baby fruits and nuts off our 1st year trees. But a good lesson to go by.👩‍🌾👍

    Great to find your videos. Really helpful. My lemon tree is 6 years old and has never been out of the house. I grew it from a seed started under a grow light and now lives permanently in the west facing window. (I should also mention that I'm in Calgary Alberta Canada. ) I had a bout of spider mites this fall and sprayed with Bug B Gone insecticidal soap to get rid of them. Since spaying all the leaves are falling off. I've never had this issue before so I'm a bit concerned that I may have damaged it to the point of killing it. I was just wondering if this is possible or am I just freaking out because the leaves are falling off for the first time.

    Hi there, thank you for your great videos. Question: should I feed/fertilizemy potted meyer lemon tree during winter? I live in Kansas, so temps are low during winter so this tree will be inside the house all winter. My tree is flowering and the smell asking if is wonderful. I read somewhere that it might be a good idea since they closed constantly. Thanks for your help!

      I've been feeding this tree monthly since August when I got it. I use organic Citrus fertilizer from Espoma plus some Alaskan liquid fish fertilizer and water. I think the tree really liked it!

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  2 года назад +1

      If the tree is receiving large amounts of light, either from a southern window, or from sufficiently powerful artificial grow lights, then the answer is yes. The tree should continue to grow, fruit, and flower all winter long. Typically low humidity levels inside the house become the largest hurdle to overcome while indoors. The results of low humidity typically end in leaf drop or tip burn (neither of which will kill the tree). So if the tree continues to grow, flower, and fruit during the winter, then absolutely fertilize them. If you see leaf drop and stalled growth, then stop the fertilization. And I recommend you make sure the plants go almost to complete dryness in-between waterings when in an indoor environment. Citrus are prone to root rot while indoors.

      Thanks so much for your answer, it really helps me!! Great information. now I can stop stressing out about the fruit drop on my potted Meyer Lemon tree. After three years it's finally established and has a big crop. First year I' battled poor drainage, where it almost died from root rot, - only had two leaves on it., took two years to recover. Third year I battled a leaf mold. Now I'll keep my fingers cross, maybe repot next year.

      It’s always necessary to be on a feeding schedule. It doesn’t matter whether you use a granular feed or a liquid feed. But generally I recommend an organic granular fertilizer once a month. The amount depends on the size of the tree and whether it’s in a pot or in the ground.

    Why are aphids attacking my Meyer dwarf lemon but not my dwarf Clementine Mandarin next to it? I am using DE and water jet from sprayer to get rid.

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  3 года назад +2

      There are a multitude of reasons why aphids might attack one plant over another. Most of the time I've found it to be that one plant may be struggling with health issues more than the other. Of course thats not always the case. Sometimes its just simply that they haven't found their way to the other plant just yet. Either way its best to have a regular feeding schedule for your trees, and treat the pest issues as soon as you can. Those are both good methods of removal. I typically use a mixture of neem and dish soap in a spray bottle to get rid of them. I apply it for a series of 7 days to make sure the problem is fully resolved. Aphids are extremely common, and every gardener will deal with them multiple times throughout their gardening career. Thanks so much for the comment and support!!

      It can take an extremely long time for potted citrus to fruit if grown from seed. I've seen it take 30 years before.

      It sounds to me as though your tree simply needs more time to grow and develop. It will produce fruit for you soon, just give it a little more time. Give it 6-8 hours of full sun a day, adopt a regular feeding schedule during the spring and summer months, and allow the tree to come to nearly complete dryness between waterings. Do these things and you will have tons of fruit in no time!

I decided to transplant the lemon tree and now I have lots of lemons but I noticed that they are ending up in the dirt and figured there we too many. After watching this video I won't worry about it. I still have lots more lemons than 6.

      Look up a product called Gnatrol. Water with this product following the given instructions as often as necessary to kill the larvae in the soil. Also buy a fly killer to spray in the area to get rid of the flying Gnats. Also grab a fly sticky trap to hang by your plants. All of these things in unison will destroy the gnat population. Good luck!

    In my home garden there are five citrus trees, a few of them fully bloom flowers but surprisingly ,the fruit develops some disease, trees turn in fruit fall or with shrink sized fruit. a couple of years back I had filled earth which is less porous, perhaps that led to slow watering process , ....can u guide me what should I do now to deal with. Another issue is of fruit-flies which led my Guava trees being victim to larva. Kindly help me.

      I use miracle grow or expert gardener liquid feed. I moved away from the diluted schedule and moved back to the once a month full dosage schedule listed on the back of the feed boxes. Make sure you mix them properly as to not over or under feed your plants.

    My question is… For some reason it seems like flower petals are hanging onto the tiny green fruit… I don’t remember that happening in the past, but it’s been a while since my Mandarin even bloomed. One year it had a lot of damage because I didn’t get it inside before a hail storm. It took a few years to come back from that. Doing great this year, but like I said now that it has tiny green fruit on it, I noticed it has sooo many flower petals still stuck to the end of the fruit. I’m wondering if I should gently pull them off?

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  2 года назад +1

      That’s not gonna be a big deal. When they are ready they will fall off on their own. I’m glad the tree is finally back on track!

    Hello, I have a lemon tree in container/pot and I live in New York. I keep it outdoor during summer and bring it indoor during winter. My tree only flowers in January (winter) and didn’t fruit until this past January for the first time. Unfortunately, all fruits fell off, which was very disappointing. Do you suggest that I should use a fertilizer all year around? Also, is it possible for my tree to flower in summer or will it continue to flower only in winter? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    • @PlantFanatics
      @PlantFanatics  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Lemon trees are notorious for blooming and fruiting all season long. Unlike many Orange trees they are not held to a single bloom time. Does the tree get enough light indoors? That can be a huge cause for fruit drop.
