AG have a strong satirical bent, and you can say that Otona Blue is both a parody of and an homage to the very common “sexy” songs by young singers and the underlying subtexts they send. “Blue” as in the blues, is punned with the Japanese “buru” meaning to pretend, as in “pretending to be an adult”. BTW, yes, that’s a hotel. Specifically a love hotel. And for some reason, that’s a Volvo in the parking lot.
It’s understandable that the style might not mean much to folks outside Japan. Otona Blue is a very nostalgic nod at the Showa era, especially the 70’s and 80’s pop songs that were on TV nightly in those days. It resonated broadly with the Japanese audience and was an enormous breakout hit for Atarashii Gakko! While the MV is, I think, heavy on the satirical side and almost a bit dark in its implications, in the First Take version, which other commenters have recommended, they really nail the fun side of it. It’s an absolute delight.

Nice to see you reacting to them! They basically have no specific genre, they just do whatever they want and I love it lmao
Some songs I recommend if u ever want to see more of them: Pineapple Kryptonite, HANAKO, Suki Lie, MANINGEN (I personally recommend the choreography video studio ver. for this one 🔥), Toryanse, Change, Giri Giri, The Edge and WOO!GO!. Fantastico and CANDY don't have MV's but their dance practices are really good (funny af). They make their own choreos!
Cant wait to see u reacting to Babymetal as well! I know it can be a little hard since ur channel is mostly focused on kpop, but I think u wont regret. If you want a starter list for Babymetal, I think you can go with: Headbanger, PAPAYA, KARATE, Syncopation, Shanti Shanti Shanti, Kagerou, Night Night Burn, YAVA!, Ijime Dame Zettai, Megitsune and Road of Resistance. These songs are heavy in a good amount for the average non-metal fan and are generally pretty fun and upbeat/have a nice message (except for Kagerou). If u want to go more emotional, there's the Trilogy of Light (Starlight, Shine, Arkadia), speculated to be made for the ex-member Yui (left due to health issues) and for Kami Band's guitarrist that passed away when he was stargazing with his wife. But remember, WATCH THE LIVE VERSIONS. Don't get me wrong, the studio ver. and mv are fine, but trust me, they're SO much better live.
If u're interested in more jpop/jrock, I'll gladly recommend some stuff I listen to. Zeroses help each other find good music 👍🏻

AG! are better known in Japan as _Atarashii Gakko no Leaders,_ or *New School Leaders.* 3 of the 4 members were still in school when the group was formed. This might help you understand the school uniforms better. They consider themselves representatives of Japan's youth. Their motto is "With individuality and freedom we stand out". The members are Suzuka with the glasses, Rin with the curly undercut, Mizyu with the twin tails, and Kanon with the long straight hair. They are in their early twenties now.
Trying to nail down a definitive genre for AG! is like trying to nail down water - it's not going to work. Musically they are all over the map. As you saw in this 4-song reaction set, we got jazz-rock fusion in 'Koi Geba', hip-hop in 'NaiNaiNai', 80's city pop with 'Otona Blue', and kaiju cinema influenced, inspirational marching pop for 'Tokyo Calling'. I guess? I don't really know how to classify that song other than Banger!
Some songs to check out for more AG!
You should really revisit 'Otona Blue' with the *First Take* version here on RUclips. It's the definitive version.
'Change' is their newest single and very catchy. You'll have it stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Another genre-bender with its Latin style trumpet and rap mix.
'Night Before the Exam' should be seen just as much for the song as for the incredible one-take video. Amazing!
For Halloween, I recommend the fun single 'Hanako', about a ghost girl who haunts school bathrooms. Hanako is a Japanese urban legend similar to Bloody Mary.
I forgot to mention, they do all their own choreography. They are truly brilliant at it. So much so that other groups will hire AG! to do choreo routines for them. AG!'s dance practice videos are just as good, if not better, than their full production music videos. You get to see the whole routine in a single take.

If you want to jump into Babymetal, my 4 songs selection would be:
    - Megitsune - For me, the best representation of what is Babymetal. ruclips.net/video/x2BOcdd1ZAs/видео.html
    - Road of Resistance, Live in Japan - A classic Babymetal live video. ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html
    - Monochrome - For something a bit more calm. This version is a fan favorite ruclips.net/video/xAZeBm0o7Jo/видео.html
    - Babymetal Death - For some of the craziness of Babymetal (but not the full craziness ..). ruclips.net/video/k60STAxJCCY/видео.html
They are all live videos. Some of the MV are quite good, but live is the best way to get the full Babymetal experience.

That was a nice selection of AG! MVs. AG! are definitely not representative of J-Pop as they bring a very irreverent and almost punk sensibility to their songs, dance and performances. Definitely do check out Babymetal as they are also a unique Japanese group who put on a fantastic show.
AG! formed back in 2015 and are managed by Asobisystem and 88Rising. Mizyu (two hair bunches) had already worked with Asobisystem as a backup dancer with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Suzuka, Kanon and Rin joined her. Mizyu is three years older than the others and so was sometimes called the leader by journalists, and the others still look to her in some circumstances, but Suzuka's extrovert personality and strong voice make her the obvious front woman. AG! are always quick to say that they have no leader. They are all trained dancers and do all of the choreography themselves and work with various producers on the songs including H ZettM, Money Mark and Yonkey. This artistic input sets them apart from most J-pop and K-pop groups and their stage shows are performed with a unique joy and flair. They just released a new album called "AG! Calling" and they get song writing credits with various producers.
I recommend you react to some live performances with audiences as that's where AG! are the best

Nai Nai Nai (Ba!) is basically the Japanese equivalent of the peekaboo game you play with babies. It’s like “I’m not here. I’m not here. Here I am.” They play with it to make it into a sort of anthem of teenage angst - the very normal feeling that maybe you just don’t belong, mixed with punk defiance. It was the first AG video I saw, and I still love it.

For a classic J-Rock/J-Pop group, I recommend Puffy (Ami Yumi). Start with their breakout hit "Asia no Junshin (True Asia).
Babymetal is a definite must. Most Japanese acts gaining international fame owe these three little ladies a great debt of gratitude for shattering the Japanese music industry's wall of isolationism and have such a rich and fascinating history (the original trio were only 11/12 years old when Babymetal was formed). I would start with "Monochrome", "Ijime, Dame, Zetaii", "YAVA", "Akatsuki", and "Onedari Daisakusen".

Good review, I like the multiple song format it allows for a cross section, very good idea.
You mentioned you were looking at J-Pop artists, but Atarachii Gakko! never strike me as J=Pop, they are out there on their own, which is awesome, I absolutely love them, so quirky.
You also mentioned BABYMETAL who are most definitely not J-Pop, you may be shocked how different. They are a Kawaii take on heavy metal, and often VERY heavy metal, (albeit with beautiful sweet vocals), so depending on your likes you may find them too much, (or hopefully maybe not). That said they are without doubt my favourite group, but I'm an old metal head!
BABYMETAL have been around a long time now and have three distinct eras. 2010 - 2017 where they are kids/teenagers, 2018 - 2023 where they are a duo, unfortunately due to one member having to leave due to ill health, and current where a new replacement member has been officially added. No era is better or worse than another and the music is always top notch - assuming you like metal.
I'm not going to recommend what to watch because for me their best track is the very last one I played!
LucBourlier's suggestion is pretty good IMO.

J-pop is very big (there are over 300 groups) and many genres. J-pop is a general name, it is divided into J-idols, J-rock, J-metal, Jazz, Visual key and Vocaloid. Some of these genres have no analogues in the West. The idol scene is not the biggest part of J-pop, you will see more groups that play their own instruments and write their own songs. Also, the Japanese like to mix genres, be prepared for this.
