I’ve had one for three years here in Virginia. Love it. Who knew that putting a circular saw on a stick would work so well?
Holy cow it worked better then I expected .. I'm buying one tomorrow I need it.
What I like about it is, it starts every time.
THANK YOU--you took the time to give me a good idea about these, really appreciate it.
You're welcome. Glad to see it helped someone.
Finally, the panter reveals himself. Great looking K-9.
Dave Howie He’s been a great addition to the family.
In Alabama, we have to cut our grass... every 13 hours. Ain't that the truth...
I abhor cutting grass. LOL
In TX we have to cut the grass every 5 minutes. Healthy St Augustine. Actually every 5-7 days.
I just got mine a few weeks ago. These machines are perfect for a person that never edged before. It was a rough start because my yard haven't been edged in a couple years. I used my weed eater to knock some of the dirt and grass off of the sidewalk. Once I could see where the sidewalk started I got the edger out and it was easier than I thought it would be. I have perfect lines. Now I have a few neighbors asking what tool I used to do my edge
Thinking of getting one for $30 thanks for the review
Had mine for over 20 years. Light weight and still runs great.
You guys remember when BellyUpFish had 10 toes? Those where the days... I hope after 5 1/2 years you got those Steel Toe Boots.
Still have all my toes... Still don’t own any steel toed boots... I don’t use this edger much anymore though.
Should not be wearing flip flops.
You're right.. I shouldn't..
Great video, I'm definitely buying one! Also, beautiful looking dog!
Mine broke. It is still geared and good, but trigger makes it hold still position. Spins free when off
Could probably replace the switch pretty easily.
Thanks. BTW, wear some shoes, Google emergency room mowing.
+Jerry Scafidel I'll be starting a GoFundMe to purchase appropriate mowing shoes. I'm confident all those here worried about my toes will be big contributors. ;)
@@BellyUpFishGarage Like when you tell a child not to touch a hot stove. I guess you'll have to touch it to understand.
Joe Shopper Nah, I understand just fine. But I’m also 100% willing to accept the consequences if I were to lop a piggy...
Looks great! Just picked one up at a flea market for $30.
This is the 3rd video I’ve seen with someone using a bladed edger with flip flops on 🤦🏾♂️
Mike Jones I don’t think watching a video of someone else wearing flip flops will put your feet in jeopardy..
BellyUpFish 😂😂👍🏾
I am teaching my son about safety gear to wear for lawn care and wearing sneakers is one of those items. Be careful with those toes. Thanks for the video.
Safety gear is important, no doubt about it.
My thought too, I wear boots for yard work….watch those toes! Great instructions
Edging with sandals is not good. Also, you don't mess with a blade when the unit is plugged in.
+Nick Anderson Thanks for the safety tips...
I thought I was crazy when I used to use the weed eater with sandals on... until I saw my neighbor doing it bare-footed... He's got us beat.
Love mine ,but I found that it seemed to work better for me if I pull it backwards. I have had mine for quite a while.
Ron Harrison I tend to push and pull mine back and forth over the same area.
Wear some dam shoes when you gonna operate a machine !!!! Not safe and bad video !
Any good for cement curbs that are not flat ? On a angle
Great video. The guard doesn’t control depth..it’s how high or low you adjust the wheel that controls depth.
Musk -eteer007 That’s actually an excellent point. Thanks for the clarification..
yep. it guides the edger along the concrete reducing the chances of the blade from smashing into the concrete.
Mine worked great about 3 times, then died. Disassembled thinking it was switch, no luck. Piece of junk.
Bummer. Don’t use it much but mines still going strong.
Thanks. My Dad gave this model and I had to figure out how it’s used.
Love the Quality of the B&D Hedge Hog, It did a Great Job What a Great Video. You sold me and Thank you sir for sharing. Did I mention I absolutely love the Dog.
That does a nice cut
mine does what its supposed to do, but i get tired of the back and forth. also the handgrip has a nasty seam that tears my hands up. well worth the money though.
What's helped me, on this and many jobs, is getting used to wearing a good quality glove. yeah, I can "take it" but why do that? And when I'm done working, or setting up a camp, whatever, hands are clean-and not tore up
Jmichael Isbell OMG, it's been a year since I posted that comment! Please go check out my new edger review. You will get a kick out of the intro.
Umm...... Tape it?
Thanks for the vid. I found one today at the thrift store (no manual of course) and I wanted to see how to use one before I give mine a go.
I've got the same edger with bermuda grass as well in Alabama. I've yet to figure out how to get the corners of the sidewalks...lol....The Hedge Hog is better than the Black and Decker Grass Hog weedeater though, I use that for the actual weedeating....thanks for your video!
Even the dog was impressed! 🤣
I plan to get one this weekend I need this machine. But 1st thing is proper shoes for the life of me I don't understand guys that have open❌ toe or bare feet doing lawn work with machines⚠️ that is more than capable of slicing your feet or toes off 🤷🏾♂️but hey 911 is the magic #I guess❓ 🤷🏾♂️other than flip flops good review.
5 years later - still have all my toes. ;)
I don’t do much lawn work in flip flops very often.
Flip-flops and shorts with electric-powered cutting blades at high RPMs. Bad idea. Good edger, I I've had mine for a few years, replace the blade every couple years. It was working fine but now it won't come on for the first spring job. Blade spins fine. I don't hear any Electric. Where's that screwdriver?
“If you’re gonna be dumb, you better be tough..”
Don’t buy electric tools. You will get tired of dragging cords real quick. Better, get the battery ones. Way easier and great results. I do my yard every week in less time and no wasting time pulling or putting away cords. 🤷🏾♀️
We can’t all afford that
Unplug
Absolutely right. Safety first!
Thank you! His video made it possible to change the blade. I've never done any type of equipment servicing before.
Protip: just make sure it’s unplugged before you change out the blade.
Unbelievable that this guy is eevn contemplating using such a device in bare feet with flip flops - is he wanting toe amputation as anoptional extra ?????
Martha Whittaker IKR? This guy must be nuts! I bet he texts and drives!
How do you think it do edging for a gravel pathway, I have an existing pathway just like to widen it out
I'd probably just use a string trimmer. I've since swapped over to edging everything with a string trimmer. Still have the EdgeHog, but don't use it much.
mine is 7 years old, the auxiliary handle you can put on the front has broken off and I really relied on it. I sent away for a replacement handle it only cost me like $9 and I got the old handle off because it was cracked do you remember how you put a handle on in the first place when you bought it because I don't have my directions anymore if you could figure out how to put this handle on it just doesn't Snap-on because I think I may have to take the thing apart. Thank you
+Bonnie Marron I wish I could help. I don’t remember how to put the handle on. I’ll see if I can find some time today to take a peek at mine and see if I can figure that out and let you know.
I have one of these and am really pleased with it!
Thanks for taking time to show how it works. Didn’t bother to read the manual
DaSoggyWaffle What is a manual? ;)
Mine is a year old and just stopped working. There an overheat switch, or a reset on these?
+spacegreycoralred not that I am aware of. Will it just not do anything? Sounds like a cooked motor. Gotta be a dud here and there.
Nope! I'm not pulling a tag along cord.
I can’t blame you. I’ve recently started using this less snd less. I’m looking for a nice 2nd hand trimmer to put to work as a dedicated edger.
Thanks man. Just got one, real happy and even more so that i see one used 5x more than mine will be lasting three years so far.
toodle171 I’m still loving mine. ;)
Is there safety switch way to turn it on or is it just one switch?
Gerardo S Just a trigger.
00:24 is your dog recording the the video
Of course. He's a highly trained Australian Shepherd. They're very smart.
NO GAS!!!!!
Yours glides along like you are cutting butter. I have to really fight with mine.
Gotta get in there deep like...
I’m guessing the kind of grass you have makes a big difference too.
TOO FAST, STEP IT UP.
kiem dau ra may nhu vay
Bạn phải nhìn vào đúng chỗ.
I've been edging, weed whacking, and mowing in sandals for years, mmkay. Haven't lost a toe yet. Will continue to. My feet sweat so bad they break out into a nasty rash. Shoes while doing yard work is bad mmkay.
WTF is mmmmmmkay??????

Mmmmk... You will learn the hard way if you keep practicing unsafe habits little One. Don't be part of the statistics that ends up going to the ER for them Toes! Safety is always best ya fool!
looks like there's already a bunch of loose grass just laying there in the grove/on the edge. I'd like to see a clean overgrown edge. then edge it. An see after how it looks
Ron Hughley There is approximately 2 weeks of growth and clippings left over from when the grass had just been cut. If you look at 3:22 you can see the growth out into the sidewalk.
BellyUpFish .. eh. Yea I guess it looks like it did a good job. how well it work for harder more compact ground/lawns.or roots etc?
Wish it wasn't so loud ...
3M Worktunes!
its so edgy that it can cut grass
It’s more edgey than a liberal at an NRA meeting...
I noticed you had your front wheel all the way forward, have you noticed any differences in the 3 settings?
Seems like that was where it seemed to be the most stable. I honestly don't remember.
The position of the wheel actually coincides with the depth you choose.
i live in montgomery. these thing have replacement blades?
Yes
Yes you super Star
I noticed you have the left hand handle on backwards. Is there a reason for this?
Left handle?
DUDES SMOKED UP !
It’s an auxiliary handle that does not always come standard when you order this product.
Where are your shoes/boots!!!!!!! I was cringing the entire time throughout this video man.
David Portenier 3 years later, I still have 10 toes.
:) You should still wear shoes/boots when doing this. It only takes one time....and I say this from experience. I only have 8.5 toes.
Oh, I won't argue that one bit. Shoes are a much better idea than no shoes.. :)
Nice looking turf
Thanks.
That noise, is that the blade or guard grinding the cement?
The guard. I press the guard up to the concrete and let it ride.
Good to know. Thanks
Wow it is really edgy
B Broadcast Edging with flip flops is almost as edgy as I can get..
Flip flops bad idea
All my piggies are still accounted for.
I love that shirt where'd you get it?!
Andrew Loy I don’t remember, but you can buy one here:

@@BellyUpFishGarage hey thanks!
massive yard , is land cheap in Alabama?
Cost of living in Alabama is definitely lower than many places. Average house lot in a neighborhood runs about $25k. Land by the acre runs about $2,500-$5,000 per.
A Amid
Alabama isn't a friendly state to outsiders my friend .... I know and I'm the Minority! U need to be in a state where's not in the south for sure !!
Some BS prep work before the video was shot! Looks like he swept some loose grass clippings to the side and is running the edger along an already good to go sidewalk edge. Listen to that motor spin! There is almost no load!
I've run one of these for a couple seasons now and they are certainly better than a manual option but they are still a lot of work and will bog out rapidly in any type of heavy growth.
😂 I had just cut the grass. Skip to about 01:39. It’s not edged, you can literally see the grass growing onto the sidewalk.
who chopped the dogs tail off?
lisa gordon I did, with the Edgehog. Took a few attempts but finally got it.
BellyUpFish i know you jest!
lisa gordon yeh, the breeder had already lopped it off when we got him.
Would it work well to cut sod? Thanks!
It might, but I don’t think it’ll get deep enough.
I’d rent a cutter from Home Depot.
Really Connie... Really?? You gonna ask this guy who gives you wrong info and does everything incorrect! Not to mention... Flip flops while using the machine!!
Why don’t you help her, Bigfoot. Would this work well to cut sod?
@@bigfootswatching9986 Don't "Really" me! I'm just searching for information. It was taking too long to cut the sod around my garden with a square spade. I had to plant a smaller garden area. which means a decreased yield. But I will have fun anyway.
@@conniestiles9083 What? Really Connie? Like Really??? lol......o.k. All jokes aside.......It will only cut into 1.5 inches of Sod. Take care and please remember......while operating this machine....Wear gloves, safety glasses and hiking shoes! Not to mention, always watch your Cord so you don't accidently cut them with your own blades!!! Take Care!!
great vid - i really suck at this . but gonna give it another try tomorrow - never had luck with getting a clean edge with weedeater
Thanks. It's super easy. If I can do it, anyone can. ;)

Is this any good for edging beds?
Yep, I used to edge all my flower beds with it.
THIS EDGER IS ABSOLUTE CRAP!!!!
I love mine. I’d buy another tomorrow if it broke.
Ive had mine sitting in the garage for 3 years because I lost the instructions LOL Thanks so much for this video! Going to edge now. I live in SC and mow my yard every Thursday night!
Nice safety boots, dolt
You like those?
I could barely watch the entire video, so much misinformation. I have this unit for 5 years. He suggests using this to trench for running cable!? The trench will be no more than about 3 inches deep. Not nearly deep enough. Even low-voltage data cable should be at least 12" down. Then he says (1:03) the "edge guard" sets the depth of cut. It does NOT. The front wheel on the Edge-Hog has a 3 position adjustment to set the depth. The blade looks about 50-60% worn. Should have used a new blade, at last for demo purposes. Then spends a lot of time walking backwards. Always edge in a forward walking direction.
As to wearing sandals. . . Sure, many of you do it all the time and "never lost a toe." Many of you will lose one some day. I used to work in an emergency room. We had literally hundreds of foot & toe injuries from edgers and trimmers every summer. Those typically presented the lower end of injuries & treatment. If you go over a sandal-foot with a mower, forget it. I've been wearing steel-tips for years now. It's easier to wash a foot than reattached a toe. Or amputate whats left.
Where to start. I find it curious a guy who has been using one of these for 5 years would watch a review of one, but thanks for watching.
That said, works absolutely amazing for wireless fence cable. Depth needed there is 1-3”. So, it will certainly trench for certain purposes.
You’re 100% correct on the depth setting. I misspoke. No script. Maybe next time.
Send me a new blade, I’ll make another video.
Also, if a 60% used blade works as demonstrated, one could assume a new blade would perform better?
5 years later, I’m still running that same blade.
Thanks for your review of my review.
This was not what I was expecting when I searched edgy the edge hog
Just read the comments. Plenty of edgy hedge hogs here. ;)
