  • The best lawn edger for the money? (Value) Doc reviews his new gas powered lawn edger. www.howtowithdoc.com/best-law...
This gas powered lawn edger also has a curb function that Doc really likes. This lawn edger is FAST. It cut our edging time down in half.

Doc I'm 43 and my dad had a Snapper model like this back in the 80's. I used to send sparks flying trying to use that thing as a kid lol. This is an OG edger for sure. I need an edger myself but I think I'm going to get a stick edger. Thanks for the review!

Just purchased this edger and have to say that I am thouroghly impressed with the lines it made for me. I was using a old Ryobi electric since November of 1997, lol, so it was definitely time for something new!

Just ordered the edger. This will be great for my needs. I’m like you. I will probably only run it about 30-40 minutes per use. This will definitely sharpen up my edging game lol. Thanks for bring it to my attention. Love the videos and the recommendations 👍

Hey Doc. Just an update. I’ve had this edger for one year now and this thing is AWSOME. It has not give me one problem. The only thing I’ve had to do is routine maintenance and replace the blade as needed. My edges have been on point ever since it arrived. Thanks again for the recommendation. Hard to believe it’s been a year already. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank You, great review Doc. I am particularly happy to see you concerned about price. Many RUclips creators review only the high end stuff and report how good it is. Many of us homeowners want good products that are more affordable. Thank You again.

That’s the same damn edger my brother gave us last year! For FREE!! I like mine even though my curbs are sloped and all I have to do is angle the blade and let ‘er roll!!
Super job and it is hard to start 😂

I have an older, Craftsman branded version. Looks to be the exact same thing, except its a different engine.
LOVE IT. Odd thing is, pump the primer 4x and it just plain starts. I can have year old gas in it and it runs like a new engine. I'm never getting rid of it. If I needed more room in the garage, I'd start pitching stuff out to make room!

  • @bodeine454

Thanks Doc, I've watched a couple of your videos and enjoy them, you seem relaxed and eager to help people 👍
I recently bought an older McLane edger with a Briggs engine and the original blade was wore down to about 6 inches so I went to Lowes and bought a star shaped blade with a 5/8" hole and I needed one with a 1/2" hole so I also got a 5/8 to 1/2 inch reducer sleeve and welded it to the blade. So far so good, and I also painted and oven baked it with lime green engine enamel (rattle can variety). I didn't want to wait on shipping for a blade with a 1/2" hole and Lowes didn't have any in the length I needed so I went the country boy route, lol.... I'll find out tomorrow how it all goes, fingers crossed.

Great video Doc, thanks. My dad had me taking care of the lawn when I was 13. That was 30 years ago and walk-behind edgers were commonplace. I still have a 25 year-old right-sided blade Pemberton. Do you have any idea why the newer model walk-behinds are only available with the blade on the left side now? It seems counter-intuitive.

  • @imowlow8919

There is only one battery powered Edger with excellent reviews, and that's the EGO 56-Volt Edger. With over 5,000 5-star Reviews, it lives up to the hype--love it! No gas, no oil, and no annual maintenance makes it even better. Unfortunately, EGO is like the luxury version of battery-powered lawn equipment, so there stuff isn't cheap!!

Yep I paid $700 AUD for a a well known battery powered brand, skin only at $270 AUD but by the time you end buying the battery and charger it was 700. I could have bought a decent petrol edger for that. The one of got is decent enough and has battery power to boot at 36v, but at that price I'd rather the simplicity of a petrol model. Love the videos btw, I have Bermuda here in Australia, or as we call it couch, so your vid's are very helpful.

Can you Please do a New Sod guide or tutorial? We had Tifway 419 installed in our new house at closing, a few days before Christmas 2018. It is starting to green up now, but needed some direction. It hasn't taken root yet, and is mostly weed free, but my neighbors is probably 95% weeds and don't want it infesting my lawn.
I know your webpage said DON'T put pre emergent on new sod, and I don't want to shock the lawn, but was thinking of ordering Super Juice as soon as it's back in stock and putting it down full strength. Other than that, I have a little Nutsedge, but was thinking I could spot treat that with Image Concentrate in a 32oz water bottle and some dye, so I only hit the small problem areas?
Other than that, the lawn hasn't been treated at all for weeds yet, and I really don't have any weeds, but was curious what granule or stuff I should use to strengthen this lawn up as quickly as possible without shocking it.
    Love the channel!!

i got the Powermate edition of this edger. Same thing except it's orange from Home Depot. Problem is this duck don't quack! Tech support said they don't really use regular gas very well because of the ethanol, so I siphoned the tank and put that expensive fuel fro HD in. Still no start. After exploring some video reviews of this model, I found someone who confirmed that this is a very hard engine to start. It took him several days to get it to start and much work. And he said it's still hard to start.

Does good for walkways but doesn’t do a thing for flower beds and tree circles. The 15 degree bevel is only a straight cut so you gotta still go back with a shovel and remove. It doesn’t throw the dirt out of the trench.

Hey Doc. When you use your blower to blow the debris back into the lawn, I am seeing some sort of a "phantom dirt line" on the sidewalk from what I assume is the back wheel of the edger. 8:14 That would drive me crazy! You only need to edge a yard like that probably once a year and the rest of the time you use a weed eater at an angle. The reason for that is a weed eater can't cut into the dirt at least not in a timely manner. Those push edgers are a must when you're cutting a lawn that is over grown and or has never been edged before.

Forgot to mention in comment below that it does leave tire marks. Look at the end result on the video and you will see these displayed prominently. Most of my edging is along asphalt so the marks don't show, but they sure do on white concrete areas I have. Someday I may swap out the cheap plastic wheels for better ones.
