Interlocking Crochet for Beginners

  • Mosaic Crochet is an old technique that has it's useful purpose for today's crocheter. It is the art form of putting two filet meshes together to form intricate mosaic designs. To me, the sample baby blanket I did reminds me of a floor mosaic I saw in a hotel in Rome. To me, it seems timeless. Beginners are for those who already know how to crochet in this example.

    I've been trying to learn interlocking crochet on and off for MONTHS now and this is the only video/tutorial of any kind that has worked! I have a little reversible square of interlocking crochet now. Thank you so much :)

    Considering the fact that he is using his time to teach us this pattern and stitch for FREE, I think he is an Excellent Instructor! He is Patient, Kind, And Precise! I for one am so grateful to those who share their knowledge with us. If not for these channels where we are lucky to get this wide variety of choices, where I can rewind and play - over and over while pausing until it "Clicks" in my brain. I would still have my hook and yarn in hand, looking around, saying, "Now What"??!!
    I am most excited to learn these stitches that look difficult and beautiful while being relatively easy. Thanks So Very Much!!! 😊 💕

    I swear I am your biggest fan....have followed ALL your videos for years and learned sooooo much from you! I know I speak for a lot of ppl when I say I would not be the crocheter I am without you! Anyway, my comment is really a fun helpful idea. I have a laminated flashcard with a large B on one side and F on the other. I flip the card back and forth depending on what row I am on, to always know if I need to bring my second color forward or backward to begin the row. When I set my project down due to life beckoning, I place the card with the correct side up between my project and yarn skien....its not fool/fail proof and its always good to know how to look and see which is which. However, as a seasoned crocheter this is a MAJOR time saver! Thanks for your videos, I will continue to support you! You are my crochet HERO!

    I always enjoy your videos, so TFS!! I wanted to contribute a tip that I picked up in a Venezuelan video (by Crochet Venezuela, I think); instead of sandwiching 2 completed rows of A and B, only complete an A row, then make your starting chain of B and thread it through the A row. Then you can start your pattern without the ugly, empty starting rows at the bottom of your work.

    I love this, Front Post, Back Post is fun for me. Will be getting my therapy/service puppy in April, I wanted something that he could cuddle in for his long ride home.I have about 9 blankets made for him.4 of them are done with the rib stitch. this will be his next one.Yes he is coming up to Maine from Texas.. Little Sprout needs a comfy ride home.

      My dog (not officially a therapy dog, but she is my therapy anyway) loves her blankets. Being part Chihuahua, she gets cold! I need to crochet her a warmer sweater than what they sell in the stores, but haven't found the right pattern.

    FYI: this is NOT Mosaic Crochet; this is Interlocking Crochet. There IS a difference. They actually look quite similar, but the execution is different. Google "Havana CAL" or "Havana Afghan" (mosaic crochet afghan CAL based on the "Apache Tears" pattern) 👍🏻

    I've recently made the "Reversible Geometric Crochet Blanket" (pattern is dated October 28, 2019) and I really enjoyed it. I'd not seen this technique before; the finished item has a lovely texture which brings me pleasure every time I touch it, and it keeps the drafts on the floor from chilling my feet, legs and lap. It's such a crisp, smart design too (I call it 'fleur-de-lys' as that's what it looks like to me). I've decided to make the "Top o' the Morning" blanket next and am seeking out suitable and pleasing yarns. I'd love to see more of these interlacing designs around -- or come up with one or two myself. Thanks for the in-depth tutorial, as ever, Mikey!
    Best wishes from Katherine in Kent, UK

    While watching your Mosaic crochet tutorial it occurred to me that this is the same technic used to make those reverible blankets

  • @jupitersnoot4915
    @jupitersnoot4915 2 года назад

    calling this mosaic crochet is a bit confusing because this is not the mosaic crochet i am used to. This is interlocking crochet. the mosaic crochet i am used to does not have interlocking meshes, but fully connected rows where you crochet the colours into each other.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  2 года назад

      This is also referred to as mosaic. I checked before filming.

    Thank you mikey this is an interesting concept. How would you go about doing a large scale blanket like this. Would u have to do these small pieces or could u do 2 different size blankets then mesh them together.

    So is this the interlocking stitch or mosaic because under yarnspiration you call it mosaic. If you ask me one tutorial of this is enough.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  6 лет назад +1

      No you can use any yarn you wish. I am going to do another type of yarn for a different design.. that might help.

    What is the finished size if you start with the 76 and 74 chain meshes?

    • @Cellottia
      @Cellottia 2 года назад

      Depends on your yarn and hook size. Try it and see by measuring. You can always add more chains, or pull them out. If you want to know your row count, I'd suggest making a mesh swatch of several rows and measuring that, too. You can always pull it out and reuse it for the actual blanket. Hope this helps!

    Is it possible to do this with 3 colors?

    • @RD9_Designs
      @RD9_Designs 5 лет назад

      You would have to switch colors in your rows, as this is created in 2 pieces.

      It’s a RUclips thing. I guess they weren’t already making enough money on ads at the beginning, before a video starts. They better be careful or someone who is less greedy might come out with a video platform that has few to no ads.

      How to Crochet with The Crochet Crowd Thank you for the reply. I did realize you have moved (your yarn organization is to DIE FOR). My comment was more to make you aware, as I've found small movements don't bother most people. Unfortunately for me, it makes the video unwatchable. Your work is wonderful. You alone taught me to crochet. Thank you for all you do, and keep it up!
