- In the thirteenth episode of Satya Samvad, Dr. Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar interacts with Dr. Archana Purushottam about the Gurukul model of education and how the Indian Knowledge Systems can naturally lead to pedagogical systems that facilitate comprehensive teaching and learning. Bharat underwent colonization on multiple fronts at the hands of successive imperialist powers - political and economic primarily, but also on the intellectual front. A major way that this was effectuated was using the two-pronged approach: firstly, by demolishing indigenous Bharatiya institutions of wisdom and education, such as Nalanda and Vikramshila, and secondly promoting foreign value s and ideas as the foundation of a `progressive' education model, such as done by the likes of Macaulay. In an increasingly polarized world, the comprehensiveness and cosmopolitanism of Bharatiya knowledge generation and dissemination may just be the need of the hour, with a vision for the future rooted in the civilizational heritage of Bharat.

Good job Dr. Guha for talking to Archanaji. She and Vijaya Vishwanathji have been doing amazing work to bring the Gurukul model to the modern age. I think we should not blindly feel nostalgic for the past but also be rooted in our values and systems. Satya samvad is becoming a brilliant series every passing week!
I love the topics being covered in Satya Samvad! It is good to see Agastya Gurukul maintaining a balance between modern and traditional education systems. Good work by Dr. Purushottam. I met her in Chicago a while back. I agree with Mrittunjoyji think we should only take the essence of Gurukuls, not the structure and all necessarily beyond a point. With times, we have to evolve but the spirit has to stay the same.

When you want to study any other civilisation, you have to learn their language. That should be the demand and need of all Bharatiya Gyan parampara.
I can strongly forge a quality curriculum and teaching methods in Traditional Wisdom/ Knowledge systems, Biodiversity and Conservation Ecology of Indigenous local plants and livelihoods. Both off line and on line. Strictly flexitime.

Would Sanskrit be the medium of instruction ? All the subjects would be taught in Sanskrit ?
How does Agastya build the resilience in children and also enable them have grand visions?
I am interested In teaching science and math in sanskrutum!❤❤ With all other primary 7 indian language.
It is our failing as we choose to remain Indians and Hindustanies, ie, colonised-confused and not have any respect for Bharat and Bharatiyata. All our knowledge and practices are getting appropriated or shed by Indians-Hindustanies, and then happy sold back.

We do not want to go back two thousand years back. Children do not have to sit on the floor. Children do not have to learn from the Guru's mouth. There has to be books and different teachers teaching different subjects. The current education system is fine. What is needed is to teach Hindu religion in our schools. Hindu religion has been kicked out of schools. There are more Christian schools today than Hindu schools. That is where intervention is needed.

Doctor Said they don't cater it as a Hindu school. Why because the word Hindu has exhibited as a phobic word and till date we Hindus -Sanatana Dharma people - the indigenous Bharatheeyas never tried to avoid them represent as Hindu religious people the name given by the foreign invaders only for them to create their recognition whereas there were no any religion in Bharat until the invaders came.
Anyhow when u said u won't say ur school as a Hindu school felt something very odd to accept that ur words seems an acceptance of some crime.
If a country of 200 million people could not fend off a few thousand colonizers, it indicates that you never had any knowledge 📚, wisdom 🧠, or an effective education system 🎓 to begin with. This also demonstrates your inability to engage in abstract thinking 🤔 and to understand cause and effect 🔄.
Running a Gurukulam named after a Hindu Rishi and imparting education with Dharmic foundation, but yet to claim there's nothing Hindu about it. The level of deracination is amazing. Well, what a shame...!
What do you mean? Values are the cornerstone of Vedic Dharma. Religion is a modern concept that separates humanity.

Gurukul system dates back to 5000BC.Any sane person would know at that time, in Bharat only Sanatan Dharma: was practised.
Spouting empty opinions won't work anymore. This is the age of the internet. Btw Sikhism came into existence in the late 15th century only and there has been mentions of gurukulas in upanishads too. Upanishads are Hindu holy texts fyi.

The gurukul system of education has been in existence since ancient times. The Upanishads (1000-800 BCE) mention multiple gurukulam, including that of guru Drona at Gurgaon.[2] The Bhrigu Valli (a discourse on the Brahman) is said to have taken place in Guru Varuni's gurukula. The vedic school of thought prescribes the gurukula (sacred rite of passage) to all individuals before the age of 8 at least by 12.~ Wikipedia
Agastya gurukulam is a fake gurukulam and almost a parody. They have no idea how to run a gurukulam, leave along leading the gurukul model. Vidyakshetra in Bengaluru is the real gurukulam that follows all the principles of our ancient system.
This is the sort of vicious , irresponsible comment which has no facts and basis. Vidyakshetra is a terrifick initiative indeed. No doubt . Btw I have forwarded this to Dhimanji of Vidyakshetrs who I personally know. These are all pioneers and frontline missionaries. We must salute them You dare not undermine their efforts or objectives. If you are real and not a plant then identify yourself, state facts , data , and rational arguments. Not mudslinging.
