Frigidaire Stove Won't Heat - How to Repair the Control Board

  • If you own an electric stove that won't heat, and you've tested everything else such as the heating element, thermostat, and know its getting power, the Frigidaire Control Board is a likely culprit. Typically, you'll hear the relay click, but without any heat applying to the stove as it consistently sounds every few seconds.
So we decided to take the board apart and show you what a bad relay on the board looks like, and give a rough overview of how its fixed. Due to camera angles, the soldering isn't high quality, but hopefully this shows you what's involved in getting the board working again.

Thanks for the video! I checked my board and it looked just like yours. Cleaned up and resoldered the connection and it's been working perfect! Must be a bad solder from the factory

:) I run a vintage computer repair business...and do quality assurance for a profession. Few things, at 1:39 you can see many cracked solder joints. Proper fix is to also redo almost all solder joints in that general area. This board will fail again soon. You may have fixed this off camera, but for anyone whose doing this repair...go over everything. If it looks cracked, it is; remove old solder, add new solder.

Thank you for this video. Knowing what we need to look for and now having confidence it can be repaired is nice. Was dreading a $550 board on a few year old appliance.

These are easy to fix because there's only a few bits and pieces to solve... It does take more skill, or rather a new skills tangental to repair with soldering/desoldering, but its not hard. The big key is that the relays tend to always be sub-$20 which is radically cheaper than pretty much any board you can find.

@@bensappliancesandjunk I plan to take it to an electronics repair shop. Still anticipating a couple hundred but that’s still better than the alternative.

@@nathanbasey5531 As long as they can solder, it should be under-$200. That's what most techs charge for the repair.

That 220 ohm resistor may go open also from this relay blowing. If it doesn't power up after you replace the relay, check that 220 ohm resistor. It's labeled 2200

Hey Great content. My Frigidaire has this issue. I went to remove the board and there are two black tabs I cannot figure out how to remove holding the tan board in place. They look like squeeze tabs but there’s plastic pieces in between that won’t move out of the way enough to be able to squeeze tabs together to release board. Any ideas on how to get these you release?

I try to fix one of this same, do all you do and it wont turn on, I suspect the problem is the microcontroler cause bips inmediatly you set to heat UP. I clean UP the relay, resolder and continues the same.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk

Unit had 240v supplied to terminals, but failed to push 240v to bake element, It was able to put 240v to broil though. Some models will have both fail, but these Frigidaires are an easy diagnosis and fix.

Have an electric and the the stove is complete garbage
Doesn't maintain a heat setting and is sporadic on the cycling to control current to the element
      Worst appliance buy I've made

  • @sarahfromgeorgia

You should know you're working on the oven of a range. The stove is the cooking surface on top.
