  • Control panels galore. Loads of the blighters, that's what we do in this episode. Absolutely not necessary things but things I am spending a considerable amount of time on. I like them, what can I say.
    We are still working our way towards pyroflux, that's the immediate goal, and koverex.

    Small tip of knowledge non spoiler of the week (XD): You can use rockets in a generic way similar to trains many-to-many.
    Explanation:
    - Let's assume you have 3 rocket landing pads (can be different number and in different planets or even in the same one), and the 3 of them are called exactly "Ice inbound". Each launching pad has one or more belts that takes as much ice as needed, but the remaining is stored inside of the launching pad.
    - Let's assume you have 1 rocket launching platform (or more) that is filled with ice. The destination of this rocket is configured as such: for planet "any landing pad with name" is selected (or similar, don't remember precise value by memory). The name of the landing pad selected is "Ice inbound". Launch condition "Launch when full"
    - In this situation, the rocket with ice will ONLY be lanched when it has all parts, enough fuel for the planet destination, a capsule, the inventory full (of ice) and there is AT LEAST one landing pad with the selected name ("Ice inbound here") with enough space to receive all the content of the rocket (ice + rocket parts + capsule). No needed for signal transmision or anything else, only landing pads and launching pad.
    - I usually add a signal transmision channel shared by all the pads with that name, each pad inputs a signal, one different per planet (or all the same with value 1), if it is waiting for a rocket, so that I know which planets (or how many planets) are waiting to receive one of those rockets.
    Hope you find it usefull.
    PD: you will use tons of enriched vulcanite to process iridium, so belive me if I say that your system may or may not be enough, you may want reserve space to ampliate it if you haven't done it yet just in case. That's why that planet is great, having vulcanite and iridium.
    PDD: Your ice situation is way a lot of people starts with cryonite jajaja (ice and logistic request chests)

      I don't use 'generic' trains, every train has a dedicated IN and OUT station. I'll be doing the same with rockets. The way I see it, I'll be using the exact same number of rockets, they'll just be launching from more silos less frequently.
      Part 2 of the timelapse is gonna be a bunch of planets all tied together so it might be a while yet

      ​@@theotherbigfoot so you showed us your problem. You will need volcanite and cryolite somewhere else. Make a generic rocket for volcanite and cryolite. That will solve 75% of your problem. And fuel just transport only to places where making it makes no sense

    Radial for rocket parts and capsules. Home base sends and receives them 1 to 1. Then supply shipments can go where ever they need and the radial system balances only the rockets.
    If a location gets too many rocket parts, it sends them home. If it doesn't have enough, home sends it some.

    Rockets only launch if their destination pad is empty. If you make a pad for rocket parts and another one for capsules, and make sure to keep some stuff in the pad, no more rockets will arrive with more parts until the pad is empty. This is quite powerful and doesn’t need circuits or transmitters. It does require a specific pad and launcher per item type. But the logic is easy. (Perhaps this is the route you go, only midway through the video ;)

    As you are planning your strategy to reach further into the solar system, make sure you account for the fuel cost of the delta-v between planets, moons, and orbits and the relative resource cost of escaping the gravity well of large bodies like Nauvis.
    Because I can't watch another person play for as long as I did before realizing this: chemical plants have a water ice recipe for water which uses a fraction of the power electric boilers do.

      A few rocket launches with my new system and it immediately became clear that rocket fuel was going to be an issue. 5000 rocket fuel (a full cargo) is enough for just one return trip. Not necessarily a problem with vulcanite because we can make rocket fuel from that but it is definitely something to keep in mind for the future.

    One question of the end timelapse, why use the steam turbines that return water in nauvis? those waste 25% of the potential energy to return 99% of the water, which in waterless planets is a nice radeoff, but in nauvis? you are getting 25% less electricity from the same amount of steam in a planet with infinite water.

      I've never really had a problem generating enough power. If I need more reactors I'll build more reactors. But, at peak load, I frequently have problems delivering enough water to achieve max power with regular steam turbines. Particularly with the way I use pipes and the way I constantly box myself in.
      For my playstyle the condensers are the better option.

    What I did was just mining ice instead of converting water to ice. I found an almost unlimited source in the 2nd asteroid belt. Might be something you want to look into.

    What if you looked at the planets in terms of the base: Nauvis is a starter base, the other planets are factory blocks, that all join into a singular place to produce science, where the science block is intake only
    The rockets can be considered as train networks, other than fact that they are bigger and store more different parts

      In theory you aren't wrong. In practice though, things are a little different. There are no negative consequences for sending a train to a full station. A train will generally transport only a single thing. A train can make a return trip. It's these other things that complicate matters.

      @@theotherbigfoot True, the difference is it's a one way trip, and you need to control the sending so it doesn't send a rocket to a full "station". Thought out of the blue: what are the calculations for lets say 1 full vulcanite rocket, how many other resource trips are required to produce those

      My vulcanite planet is about 4000 rocket fuel away from Nauvis, plus rocket parts and a capsule, not a lot of change left from a full rocket

      I do not code. I'm a structural engineer with an entry level amount of experience in visual basic. Hmm.... let me just correct myself.
