Koverex. Frigging koverex. The bane of my life at the moment. I really really need power and I have done for a very very long time. 300 hours, that is a long time to be working towards a singular goal. Particularly without requester chests. There is a word for all this that I just can't put my finger on at the moment.

Every now and then I look back at my old videos and think how I would do them differently if I had the time and motivation to do so. It is mostly a theoretical exercise, not much more than a moment of pondering, but this video I couldn't put to one side. I can do it better, I tell myself. It's your number 1 tip for crying out loud, if you are going to revisit an old video with a new idea then t...

Complete chaos, that's what this episode descends into. I'm trying to do something ambitious and right on the edge of what I'm capable of. It goes wrong. I think I fix it. It breaks again. I tinker and I think I've resolved it. I haven't. What should have been a 10 minute bit turns into 30 minutes of complete chaos. Big picture, a plan is coming together. Factorio - Let's Play Krastorio Episode 5
9:33 this reminds me of visualizing a circuit
I might be a bit too new to the game, but this just does not make sense in any way. how does this balance your output, when this doesn't do basically anything? You get basically the same thing, but better with balancers. What am I missing here?
I like you trupen. But this guy is understandable.
Well, that's fine, I had a similar problem with the switch playing totk, I had the weirdest pain on my left elbow, expanding to my forearm, I stopped playing on handheld mode and only on dock mode and it gradually got better
The names are only somewhat unique. There are a set number of planets, each with their own names, and each has a set of parameters it uses when generating the terrain. Mariel will always be a vulcanite planet, for example.
Why
@@6x614 why what?
@theotherbigfoot Why do you try to create a perfect base with no place between these boxes? It's strange for me. If you use a box, why don't you just use a cite block. I don't understand the purpose of this gameplay.
@@6x614 A city block which is the same size everywhere would seriously impede my creative freedom. I don't like gaps.
Kastorio + Space exploration? Oh, its so hard for me... three times I tried to start over, but gave up when I realized that my plant was bad and needed to be rebuilt. Good luck bro
I am not sure about your solution. Why bother with connecting two lanes of miners, your could just throw all ore and use splitters with priority output to guarantee x number of full belts
Seeeeeekk
ig this is a old video but the word "perfect" is doing some heavy lifting when all you are doing is spamming turrets with no real testing or prototyping also spamming turrets is not the best idea for ups afaik. Don't take this as a hate comment but this video doesn't seem to be of much relevance or quality
It's ok if you don't understand the word 'geometry'. Don't take this as a hate reply but this comment doesn't seem to be of much relevance or quality.
i don't want to drag this conversation too long but well the perfect geometry will be such that you cannot improve on it any further and i doubt if your design is all too superior than just having curved edges on a basic death world perimeter all i am saying is the word perfect is a very difficult word to justify without sounding ignorant and you seem to be unable to part from it probably because its a more clickable title? i have no problems with your views but calling perfect in a game like factorio full of perfectionists is not a very good idea lmao
@@Broccoli-vu2tx Ok, so here's a challenge for you, go find a different geometry for perimeter wall segments that allows them to be perfectly tiled that isn't based on the roboport and then we can have this discussion. The video is titled 'perfect' because there is only one geometry for perimeter walls that perfectly achieves this.
@@theotherbigfootwell well that's some fifth grader mentality but anyway mathematically speaking every shape that can tile over an infinite plane can be used as a perimeter wall that will always loop back because it will perfectly stack no matter how many times it turns basic geometry ya know they teach that in high school and it is physically impossible to do it without roboports because over and infinite amount of time no matter how solid your defense is it will be chipped and destroyed just the way the legendary murphy's law states it to be
@@Broccoli-vu2tx Next time you accuse someone of being a fifth grader, try using some punctuation, it'll work better.
The video is so fast, the conveyor belts are going backwards.
After 1200+ hours of factorio, I don't understand people who have not figured out yet that a main bus is just a bad idea that doesn't scale. You NEED a many-to-many-network for throughput.
What if you weren't looking to scale? What if you were to build a single factory, from day 1, that had the precise amount of production to achieve a particular SPM without ever needing to scale?
Love your style. Also, the issue you referred to where a lane ends up with resources on one side not being used up is almost never an issue because it only happens when assemblers are on one side of a belt and there isn’t enough assemblers to consume more than half of a belt of throughput. The inserters will always grab from one side of the belt if there is resources on that side and if you’re producing too much of that resource one side will just back up because it’s not needed. You could add more assemblers anywhere on your bus to consume more of that resource and the stopped lane would fire back and start being consumed
cool!
You need one of the Apple glasses so u can just click with your eyes. I bet that would actually work really well for factorio although I cannot justify the cost 😅
Bit late to the party here but your circuit network fails-open as you are reporting the current inventory from orbit, and 0 indicates there is no inventory in space You can invert this behaviour by transmitting demands from orbit using negative numbers instead, a value of - 200 would indicate that orbit needs 200 of an item That way when it fails it fails-closed, as it would report 0 demands for items
Strange you say it’s vanilla and use lots of mods. But still, nice to see, nice to enjoy. Lots and lots of hours spent. I didn’t saw time pass during the video. Too bad i didn’t recognized each part. Maybe a little comment somewhere to describe what you are doing? Keep on the good work!
This was the third video I ever made and, at the time, I was not up to speed on what constituted a vanilla factory. In saying that, I needed a mod to make the timelapse so no timelapse video is ever truly 100% vanilla. If you want some kind of explanation, the evolution of design video (ruclips.net/video/FV3xRgNNTQo/видео.html) kinda goes through the process.
The most insightful factorio video I have ever seen, learned so much from this
Cryonite with beryl, imersite, oil, *and* water is an incredibly good early game roll. Bummer about the biters and no mineral water, but imersite is also a pain to manage if you don't have proper sinks for its byproducts. Eating the transportation cost for a while in order to get speed modules and science and all its other amenities is just good sense. Helmod has a "stacks in storage" tooltip with option to show how many cargo wagons a recipe would fill which is handy when deciding what stage to transport resources. Regarding UPS in this modpack, I've found the worst contributors are biters and bots. If you keep it on belts and keep all your entities powered, it's pretty easy to keep those belts full because most of the time those processes are backed up while you're building the next thing. Overusing warehouses or power switches to try to save power on expensive structures can kill a run too. You can't say you weren't warned about how far requester chests were buried in the tech tree though lol
Someone else has pointed out that it would be more efficient to transport the crushed imersite instead of the ore but, as you point out, managing the sand becomes an issue. Rocket fuel might be the answer to this. I have a lot of potential rockets launching from here, do I need enough rocket fuel to use up all the sand? I guess we're gonna find out. I'm refusing to think about the UPS problem too deeply. I still feel like I'm learning the mod and the recipes, I think it's impossible to manage everything, something has to give. Requester chests shouldn't be much further than koverex. It shouldn't be too far away. But I have been telling myself that for multiple episodes now.
@@theotherbigfoot that's the spirit
Go go bigfoot. Plenty of surprises in store for ya :D Glad you're enjoying the mod still as a lot of ppl that I enjoy watching stop playing the mod because it gets tedious at some point (about the 3rd/4th SE Science pack because of having to rebuild things mostly)
What mod do you use to display the oil level? btw i loved that solar panel grid design
Circuit HUD
I don't remember with immersite, but you may want to consider crushing it in site and move the result, as it usualy is more compressed and has a biger stack size, so way less rokets for the same final quantity of imersite crystals and plates. In the case of berillium for instance (that you don't need here but I needed it) it goes from a stack size of 20 of the ore, to I think it was 50 the crushed one, and ratio 2 to 1 from ore to crushed, so 1 roket of crushed berillium was the same as 5 of berillium ore.
A good point that I will definitely need to look into
i dont want to spoil, but there is a way to reach new planets without a rocket crash ;)
Play the game how you like. Be in your happy place. There are 1000 ways to finish/win/complete the game but only one that you are satisfied with.
Your builds are sooooo damn good looking. Big fan Bigfoot
Okay so Bigfoot. I the way you play K2SE is NOT optimal. I think you already realised that but just saying. Later you get building that are 8x speed and insanely op beacons (they don't stack) that can make a building WAY faster. They have 12 slots for modules, and with 9 tiers of modules? Yeah you try to futureproof a base but with a 700-1000h mod its impossible to futureproof with all the productivity and speed. Usually in this modpack rushing to get at least t2 of 3 space sciences from SE before building something seriously is the best strategy Edit: You are 420h in and only 2 basic SE science and sauceman with 340h has 4 main SE sciencepacks on t3.. yeah.. at that point when he upgraded his planet bases one or two of upgraded buildings with beacons were enough to replace like 20 normal buildings with t3 modules. Yeah
He sticks to his style, i dont mind the time taken. Its about having fun
Imagine spending a couple hours on a single timelapse transition with all the fancy path stuff. Then imagine doing that 20, 30, 40 times over the course of a factory build. The timelapse element has probably added about 100 hours to the game. Am I about to stop doing the timelapsing because it makes me look bad that the game is taking so long? Erm, no
I agree it is not optimal but i respect the way he build this base. I definitely cannot build anything like that. And beside that sauceman is not playing alone
You're telling the guy who will manually deconstruct entire factory processes to move them over one tile multiple times and doesn't turn them on until the entire factory is built that he's playing K2SE suboptimally?
@@Sousa22ko his unique style made me sub. i see most use a nilaus bp book or spaghetti, and it doesnt impress
Holy shit this video is retarded.
Interesting - playing factorio with the keyboard is starting to not be an option for me because it f***s up my wrist, so I need to try something like this. My ideal setup would be some kind of ergonomic mini keyboard with a thumb stick where my wrist would be in a neutral orientation (eg handshake style) with enough buttons to do all the factorio stuff.
Someone else in the comments has pointed me in the direction of this thing (www.azeron.eu) which I'm thinking about ordering. Maybe there'll be a follow up video.
Have you tried a gel snake thingy to rest your wrists on?
I feel like I'm the only person that uses chests as a buffer so that no belts, trains or lines ever have less than I want them to have. My trains get filled and emptied within seconds of arriving at every station straight into chests and those chests then immediately begin filling the belt with stack inserters and the station is opened again using automation once it drops below a certain threshold in the chests. No idea if it's good or bad for my UPS/FPS but I'll be damned if it doesn't give me guaranteed flow rates 😆
The issue mentioned in the video has nothing to do with the balancers. It's just the nature that all patches deplete. Even without the balancer there will still be at some point the output gets below the "designed throughput". Unless using crazy mods, e.g. unlimited resources or extreme miner reaching range (so that every single miner can get access to the whole patch), this issue persists. In addition, using a balancer also have nothing to do with how fast the deteriorated throughput occurs, which is almost determined by the consumption rate. I think your video is chasing after a ghost.
The mixing widget, exactly what I was looking for
Absolutely loved this
Be still my data nerd heart. So, to make sure I understood in the example of 465 SPM the sheet is saying I need to generate 565.17 green chips PER SECOND? If that's correct, I gotta go work on my 5 SPM factory.
You got it. Assuming no modules or beacons.
I LOVE your furnace stack design, I think I'll try building them in my next playthrough
What mod gives you the colored bricks?
Color coding
I'm so attracted to perfect symmetry, squares, blocks that fit neatly together and balance in everything. But every guide or tutorial or widely available blueprint I've seen makes these ungodly deep long rectangle branches of inconsistent length off a typically unbalanced, non-symmetrical main bus. Then I found you. I've never been so giddy. I think I love you.
Welcome to the channel
As much as any RTS is
woodcutterviking hands. i guess the first xboxcontroller would be even better for you, that thing was giant. just from seeing your hands, i can agree keyboards would give you pain. for tankcontroll you could set one extra key to switch controlscheme with steaminput (if you have the game on steam). forcing the stick to be 4 directions only and set these as WASD, could be a key like select or pressing the stick in or RB or RT overall the steam inbuild input manager is a toptiertool. i also think mods exist that make vehicles control like spidertrons, which makes movement with stick easy.
so much nonesense said. totally unlogical.you add more unstable variants playing like this. just play like you want. if someone ask, say you prefer it like that. but dont make fake arguments up trying to be mathematical.
Is there anyway you have a full full gameplay? i would like to review deeply on your bases.. your mall and how you make all that belting and stuff... is insane, thanks man! would appreciate
Someone else asked me this a couple years ago and that's kinda what started me doing the lets play. Up til then it was all tutorials and timelapses. The simple truth is that for me to post an entire full full playthrough we'd be talking 400 hours of footage which at 4k would be about 12TB of data and would probably take about 1000 hours, at least, to upload to youtube. It's just not a realistic proposition. I can offer two options. 1. You can watch my vanilla lets play. It's the first one I did and it's probably the deepest I'll go in terms of me talking through how I build these factories. Episode 9 is where I start the shopping mall. 2. I'm always on the lookout for new video ideas so if there is something specific you want me to cover and I think it's a good idea then I'll do it. By the by, if you're watching episode 1 then you aren't seeing my shopping mall you're seeing my starter factory.
@@theotherbigfoot great man, thanks for the info! i know.. starter factory, wanted to know how you belt all... like.. idea i got is to make a panning camera with more close up of the factoy and it can go through all the specific parts so you don't have to show... just with that clip everybody can pause and that it! Radial for rocket parts and capsules. Home base sends and receives them 1 to 1. Then supply shipments can go where ever they need and the radial system balances only the rockets. If a location gets too many rocket parts, it sends them home. If it doesn't have enough, home sends it some.
