The noise alone was one of a kind especially gearing down with the paddles, and it well stood out and eye catching as there was none in my area, one big problem they don't like standing water on the roads, aquaplaining was a common problem, I hit a stream flowing across the road at speed and it threw the car off the road into trees, totalled the car but I walked away. Brilliant to drive other than that !!!! Real lady puller lol. Awesome acceleration . I'm retired now with ill health but would have another if I had use for one,
I still have my 2008 Maserati GranTarismo. I fell in love with it's engine. It sounds incredible. Ferrari made the engines back then. The difference between the Maserati and Ferrari was the Flat Plane Crank in the Prancing Horse equipped car. Next car will be a Ferrari because it too sounds incredible.
I have just bought one of these. Seems everyone is negative about flappy paddles. I was the same however I am now a convert. The videos you see of Clarkson jolting forward on change is because he keeps his foot flat when changing (do you do this in a manual!?) Once you get your head around giving the box a little help it changes faster than anyone could, allows you to keep both hands on the wheel, and heel and toes faster than the best racing drivers. It's a brilliant car - trust me!
Among car lingo, the presence of a clutch (the actual device, NOT the pedal) determines manualness or not, as opposed to the presence of a torque converter (which makes it an auto). There are torque converter based drag cars you shift manually, and clutch based cars that shift automatically. It's a stupid designation, I agree, but we all agreed upon it a long time ago and now it's just useful to get on the same page.
I was not referring to a video game. My point is a matter of weight distribution. Certain engine drive train layouts are better in a corner than others. So yes I was talking about physics. The Porsche's devotion to the rear engine rear wheel drive concept makes them difficult to control compared to other power train layouts. This is of course a generalization. The Viper needs about as much wing to be stable in the corners, then again the Viper has less tech to help it.
Actually, it's been a lot more years than that. What you fail to mention is that Fiat transferred the ownership and management of Maserati to Ferrari in 1997; Ferrari retooled and renovated the factory and supplies critical parts to this car - including the engine. Yes, the 4.2 liter 400 hp V8 engine is the 360 Modena engine (which has more horsepower, but ironically the Maserati engine was designed first and later used for the Modena V8).
Maserati is an Italian manufacturer of racing cars and sports cars, established on December 1, 1914, in Bologna. The company's headquarters are now in Modena.
I never gave my definition of good handling. I asked you what yours is. I own a 1994 512TR and am not ashamed to admit that it will not keep up with an EVO8 on a track, or many other newer, less powerful, and much less expensive cars. I do however think it handles better than any car I've ever diven. I've had the pleasure of owning Porsches, BMWs, and currently own a CTS-V, and have driven many more. Only one car that I have driven felt as good as my 512. A 2006 Lotus Exige.

It might have changed recently, but last I checked, the S7 TT had more downforce than any production vehicle ever made. Even if it has been eclipsed, it's probably by no more than 1 or 2 cars. Downforce, combined with the relatively low drag of the S7 TT, would provide a huge advantage at the track.
Maserati and Alfa does share some parts with Ferrari. The Alfa 8C engine is actually a Maserati/Ferrari 4.7l V8...and the Maserati MC12 is just an enzo under it...
This is a very affordable car after 50k miles or so in used conditions of course. Here in the United States you can get one for about 25k, affordable indeed, but the maintenance on the car is very high I think. This car goes through clutches every 15k to 20k miles, poor design of a clutch, I believe it costs you about 3500 t 4500 hundred dollars to replace, so while you still making payments on the car you better have a stash of cash that the wife doesn't know about. I like the car, a true supercar feel for the price of a Kia but it's not durable nor dependable, I've seen corvettes hit the 60k mark in miles and the clutch is still going strong. If you can afford a clutch every 12k miles or so then buy it, it's a beautiful car.
Maintenance cost depends on driving style. City driving in auto mode your clutch is gonna last only 15k miles but if you keep it at manual & sport mode on gear changes are quicker that plus stricklly highway driving or twisties your clutch will last over 60k miles. Don't compare it with a corvette or kia. Compare it with a Ferrari. Ferrari engine=Ferrari maintenance cost but cheaper purchase price and more comfortable ride.
@4G63PWR You are incorrect. You see with a paddle gear box there are two clutches on ingages the gear you select while the other one disingages the one you are in whil you dont have to press a cluth pedal one is ingaged and you control the shift points and revs thus making it a manual.
Think of it this way; a Civic is front-heavy and also FWD. The front wheels are doing everything: Steering, braking, accelerating. FF cars are dangerous to drive hard imho. They are ridiculously prone to understeer. BMWs are made to be track-worthy, Civics are made to be commuting econoboxes. And your definition of good handling, the BMW wins every category.
yup we have heaps of these coming in with failed boxes. lots of times its the oil pump in the box, it ceases up. smack it two or three times and gearbox works again!! saves the customer a hefty bill.

I know. It would be different if it was the 3200GT (arguably a different car), but one can find multiple accounts of Richard extoling the virtues of the 4200GT. This episode aired at a time when review coherence was an important principle for top gear. Therefore, Richard had to reiterate what Jeremy said, regardless if he shared the same sentiments or not. Think about the modern top gear. Sure, they review many cars, but they don't come to a consensus anymore like they used to. @krazykuul111 the gear box works just like a normal manual but it's robotised, to pull off u put ur foot on the brake and select 1st and then pull off like an auto, wen u shift up or down a signal is sent to the ecu which moves the gear selector using hydraulic fluid. Select reverse by holding down the brake and pressing a button on centre console of an R. Parking a bit tricky u have 2 use the brake like u would use a clutch kinda..

I love the way those cars look, even if they don't. It LOOKS beautifully expensive, as any Maserati should. This is a totally different type of car than the 911, so it isn't quite fair to compare the two.
if you're using Google Chrome or Firefox there are extensions that get rid of them. I didn't know what everyone was complaining about until I remembered that I had them installed.
True, there's a lot of great European super car manufacturers out there, but it's not all Europeans. The S7 Twin Turbo is an amazing car, and Shelby just broke The Bugatti Veyrons top speed- hence, it's not under production yet.
the car had other problems too- The auto trunk opener wouldnt work if you used the button or the key- you had to like push and jump on the freakin thing before it would pop open---- Before the quattraporte he had the Grand sport convertible-long story short sometimes the radio wouldn't work then it was the roof or the Ac its was horrible- he sent it back and got a full refund ( 105K). But from what I have heard maser have fixed the reliability issues with the newer models.
I raced one of these in my Dad's G37 sedan. We were dead even to 60, then he pulled a car length on me by 100. It was fucking exciting as shit being beside this Maserati and hearing it in person.... Too bad it can barely beat a $35k v6 sedan.
you're clearly an idiot. your g37 is 6.2 to 100kmh, 23.3 to 200 kmh. this Maserati is 4.7 to 100 kmh, 16 to 200 kmh. whoever you "raced" (as if) either wasnt pushing it any more than needed to keep up with you, or wasn't an experienced performance driver. The vmax alone should tell you something - 250 kmh for g37 vs 290 kmh for the Maserati. people like you hoon next to a super car that is just taking off normally or briskly from the lights and think you can keep up at max performance and that the supercar "isn't that fast". I can tell you this Maserati is pretty brutal and a huge step up in performance from my previous Alfa 916 gtv V6, which was about the equal of the g37. You need to look up the performance specs properly and remember that not everyone gives it 100% when driving

there's no way richard could beat tarquini when he's "flattening the chicken". LOL sorry i couldn't resist :-)
those are fun cars to be in.
my friends dad has one, and its fun to go driving in.
This was uploaded in 2007, probably done so people with dial up can load it. Though the option of a higher res would of been nice.
Does anyone know what the song is from 0:00 - 0:26, before Groove Armada's Suntoucher?
Cheers!
@180hotshot A manual gearbox where the driver shifts with two paddles behind the wheel rather than a gearshift.
they should definitely reupload this in 480p
if you're using Google Chrome or Firefox there are extensions that get rid of them.
REALLY AMAZING WORK TOP GEAR I LOVE IT SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great improvement in vehicles, seems like it
im in love with this car sound
Thank God for this. I cannot wait until tomorow.
Hmm, dom ska jag nog lyssna på i så fall, tack för tipset, hare bra!
The song is called Escape by Craig Armostrong... I think
just saw one today from 08 what a lovely sond
what year was this car?
Why is BBC uploading in 240p?
the car had other problems too- The auto trunk opener wouldnt work if you used the button or the key- you had to like push and jump on the freakin thing before it would pop open---- Before the quattraporte he had the Grand sport convertible-long story short sometimes the radio wouldn't work then it was the roof or the Ac its was horrible- he sent it back and got a full refund ( 105K).
What is the music @3:10? Sounds a bit like Plaid, Autechre????
what music is it in the background from about 2 mins, does anyone know?
i agree. the only british tv presenters i like watching
