- John K. Almeida composed literally hundreds of songs and many of them are named for flowers. I fell in love with "Green Rose Hula" the first time I heard it and have played various arrangements for years. Back in 2017 I started working on a "Flowers Medley" that would include "Green Rose" and some other Almeida classics, but the project mostly resided on the back burner. Then last year as I was enjoying my Almeida CD I realized that I could do a medley of just "rose" songs.
So here's the Rose Medley - "Green Rose Hula" in the key of G, down in the low position on the guitar. Then "Ku`u Ipo Pua Rose" also in G followed by a modulation to C for a different version of "Green Rose." Still in the key of C for "Roselani Blossoms" and then back to G for a high pitched arrangement of "Green Rose Hula."
I used the much loved Wingert Model E in taropatch open G tuning (D G D G G D from low pitch to high). Just for fun I recorded using a single dynamic mic, a Shure Beta 57a, plugged into the Zoom F6 which provided plenty of clean gain. I put up two Panasonic Lumix GH4 cameras so I could capture different angles. I used Edius 9 to put together the final video.
I’m just getting to listen to these beautiful songs Fran. Your arrangements are just wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Keep well and keep up these great videos 👍👍
Thanks so much, Brian. I hope I'll be getting some new clips up soon. Now I gotta go practice these songs some more!

@@franguidry That’s great Fran - I look forward to hearing them. Good luck and enjoying the practising 👍👍
As beautiful as ever Fran. Sumptuous sound.
Hey Phil, how'd I miss your visit?? I was very pleasantly surprised by the result with single dynamic mic. I guess the Wingert just makes everything sound sweet.

And a very nice medley it is too, thank you Fran. Best wishes.
Thanks, David. It's kinda cheating to use a word in the title to develop a medley, but it's the only way I know. And somehow all Hawaiian songs seem to work well together.

Aloha Fran, Maikai nui! Very easy going. Real great tone from the Wingert!
Yes, the Wingert really does the job. I'm lucky to have that wonderful instrument.

Great stuff!
Mahalo Kory, those Almeida songs have some killer steel guitar intros and I spent about a year trying to get them under my fingers. Then I gave up and just stole the easy bits (grin).
