- Finally, Hector can stop destroying his enemies when he doesn't want to.
You know what Fire Emblem needs? Shields. And I don't mean decorative ones drawn onto certain character classes. You know that annoying moment when you want your toughest guy to defend a chokepoint, but he can't stop destroying his enemies in each fight, so fresh enemies swarm in to replace destroyed ones and deal 1-3 damage before getting destroyed, a flood of water droplets crashing on your rock before making way for the next, and the next? Good news, everyone! Shields prevent this from happening.
You know the old joke from Awkward Zombie, right?
"Stop destroying your enemies, Hector!"
Hector: "I can't!"
Shields are the answer! Just move your Armoured unit of choice into position, select Items, equip the Shield instead of the Lance or Axe or whatever he normally uses, and the Shield will enhance your unit's Defence and prevent him from counterattacking while attacked. He can also Shield Bash, using half his Defence during damage calculation instead of all of his Strength. Equipped Shields will also offer half their defensive buff to adjacent allies, this is called "Phalanxing".
Shields also allow defensive fighters to further distinguish themselves from melee fighters and enhance their defensive potential further without becoming OP unit-deleters. Armoured Healers can also choose between equipping Light Magic or using any Staff such as a Heal Spell, and equipping a Shield to defend allies that don't need healing yet!
This opens up all sorts of new space for Shields with interesting effects. Enhance the Armoured unit's Res to get rid of that pesky Magic weakness at the cost of not boosting regular Defense quite as much or at all. Add a shield to the Shield user's inventory that lowers his defense and enhances his offence. An Elemental Shield can make you immune to one elemental attack and weak to another. One spiked shield could injure adjacent foes who attack this shield. A magical wind rune could offer no defensive capability and make up for that by enhancing the Knight's speed and movement. A mirror shield could reflect some spell damage, perhaps even all of it. A cursed shield could defend incredibly well, while damaging whoever equips it over time. A holy shield could heal adjacent allies while equipped. There are so many things Shields can do! Shields, Tanks, and all sorts of ancient technology... And that's not all I'm putting into my new Fire Emblem fangame!
I just saw Hector barricading a swarm and thought of the "Like I give a Shit" image where he's defending a throne map solo and he's completely surrounded
I remember that meme.
All I am surrounded by is fear and dead men
Meme title?
this is unironically the strat I use for the early game throne defense chapter in fe7 ironman runs, it’s somehow much more reliable than actually playing the game
It's because the best strat in defense maps is to not do anything.
You know what could work instead of Shields? Corpses like in Darkest Dungeon. They were added to the game to keep players playing the game in a more fun way. Intentionally equipping weaker units with weaker enemies so they spare enemies so those enemies can block the path of other enemies doesn't strike me as "fun".
This is really interesting. If not just to see Hector talking to Eirika
I’d like this if there was an animation fight sequence that shows Hector using the shield
You have to stop destroying your enemies Lord Hector!
_I can't_
Well, try now!
Okay, it works now.
The secret is to use a shield that isn't just cosmetic.
Now i want a animation of hector beating the shit out of someone with a sheild.
is it weird i went "Oooooooooh" when i saw damage numbers?
Ok but are we going to ignore Erika with 18 strength
Better use shields like the Saga games. But I'm don't know if that's easy to make in a GBA game.
That 73 hit tho
Does equipping a shield grant any defensive bonuses?
Equipping an Iron Shield grants +6 DEF. Better shields grant higher stat bonuses.
Why do I get the feeling that you might make a meme shield at some point?
@@gameknight504 Meme shields would be great for a meme game. But If I put meme content into a serious game, I'd hide it away behind a choice made early on like the Wacky Wasteland Trait, so those looking for a serious story don't have their immersion broken by memes and in-jokes nobody will like in six years.
@@JasonGodwin69 yeah that's a good way to do it, also just curious will there eventually be stuff like shields that increase the RES stat instead of DEF? Heck even a cursed shield where it gives you +9 on both DEF and RES but has a pretty hefty downside?
@@gameknight504 Yep! The Rune Shield and Enchanted Shield are great anti-magic options, the Spiked Shield damages enemies every time they attack you, and the Doomed Shield is incredibly powerful but it puts a status on whoever equips it. The status deals 20% of your health as damage to you at the end of your turn and doesn't go away when the Doomed Shield is unequipped. It only goes away when the battle is over.
Why would you use a Shield if the armored Knights already have one?
Two shields. It's great, just ask the Dark Souls players.
Will there be shield animations?
There will be Shield Use animations, and Shield Bash animations.
Hmm shields
Maybe for magic users we could have barriers but that might be a little far fetched
Eirika's stats are bonkers
Seems like an interesting to hack, I'll give it a try when I can
If you listen realllllllly closely, you can hear the beginning then if sacred stones beneath the main music 🤭 cool video
What hack is this
Emblem Wars, my upcoming Fire Emblem fangame.
