Congrats on your book launch! Your patterns are beautiful, and I wish I could knit them all! I understand about falling from a professional high and back to earth. I also understand how being successful can be a scary place for too long, it has happened to me more than once. I had a different experience. I had a great professional (high-tech engineer) success 10 years ago (I have since retired). I had just done something really great! My boss and my co-workers also agreed that I had just done something really great (promotion and bonus worthy great)! My friends agreed too, and I loved the attention and the recognition for it. For the first time in my life, I was the superstar! It was such a relief to me that all my hard work and sacrifice paid off, big time! I was proud of myself in a way I had never been. I was happily riding the "me wave" until my husband (innocently and thoughtlessly) asked me when I was going to clean the bathroom. By sheer impulse, I snapped back, "What, it takes breasts and a uterus to clean a bathroom -- clean it yourself!" It was not my best moment. I flipped back and worth about whether or not I should apologize to him because, to be honest, I wasn't sorry. I later explained to my husband that it wasn't that I was "full of myself", I felt I was being treated unfairly. For 20+ years, I worked almost exclusively with men in the engineering field. I worked hard to earn professional distinction beyond the supportive role as cheerleader to the male ego (not complaining, sometimes this is just what a leader needs to do). But at this moment, I never saw more clearly what I had noticed for a long time -- we give men a for a week of the "success glow"; but a woman only gets a minute. I felt unappreciated for everything sacrifice and every inconvenience it took for me to get that success -- everything that my husband did not care to notice. After the initial "that'a girl", my husband unknowingly put me back into the domestic box of reliable housewife. His only defense was that I made it looks so easy, he did not feel he had to notice. Like your husband, my husband is a good man. I learned early to choose my battles with him because we both want a happy marriage. I save my "I am sorry" for times when I am truly sorry or truly wrong. Ten years later, I still do not have a solution to the injustice I felt at the time, but I do recognize it as a trigger for me and I temper my responses to it in the kindest way possible because my husband is one of the good guys.
Retired nurse and have been reading newer studies done around the globe that women can take 12 months to fully recover both emotionally and physically from pregnancy and childbirth along with the extra work of caring for a little human so just know your feelings are all very normal and can change from one day to another. You are doing a great job and your little Son is adorable. Congratulations on your new book release Kika, mine just arrived yesterday so I’m looking forward to sitting down with a nice mug of hot cocoa to read through it all! ♥️📔🎄

Congratulations Kika. I too struggle immensely when I do not get enough sleep. At the beginning of the year, while being my mother's caregiver I only got 29 days of sleep for 3 months and I quite frankly don't know how I survived that. Best of luck.

Maybe you should give advise, like a colour guide, there are so many options and not always easy to figure out from the skein to finished project. I've been frogging my sweaters sooo many times because of colours not turning out like I thought. 😮 For the next book...😉

Many of us related to sleep deprivation as new mothers, I had 3 babies, and I don't know how I survived it...except for ignoring chores and sleeping with my baby during the day when she/he slept, and focusing very much on good nutrition every single day. Sleep deprivation is absolutely the worst thing I have ever experienced, healthwise and it has been proven clinically extremely debilitating. Good luck with encouraging your baby to sleep through the night without nursing. So pleased you are being recognised as a respected knitwear designer! Ps what does your man do for a living? Wow I wish I lived near you so I could get your books. I just love your designs and absolutely want to support your work. However I live in Montpelier Vermont I. The USA so it is unaffordable to buy your book and have it shipped to me. Your first book was going to cost me $75. I was considering it even deliberated over it for months. But it was just not practical. I am sad for that. I am so so happy for you as a designer and mother and wife. Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey with all of us. It is great to see your success and the ups and downs of that journey.
Hi there! Her first book is available at local yarn shops in the USA for around $36-$40. Wool & Company in Illinois has several copies in stock and I’m sure there’s other shops closer to you. Good luck finding your copy!
