    Honestly the thing I like about this movie is that when these vehicles reach a certain speed it looks like they're about to fall apart or just explode. That's how hard they're pushing these things. And the sheer amount of G Force the drivers are feeling.

    I just love that extra little tidbit that JP doesn't end up 2nd, the other cars are so insanely quick and so closeby that in the short timeframe of him losing control, Sonoshee winning and him going over the finishing line, the rest of the field goes through and he's like 5th or 6th...
    It really sells you on the idea that these cars are no joke and that they are _insanely_ fast.

    • @GhostOfDamned
      @GhostOfDamned 7 дней назад +4

      To add to this (correct my yapping if something)
      4:03
      Relative to the planets gravity and atmosphere they are racing on (which we do not know so we will use our earth)the speed they would be going at to create a shockwave powerful enough to damage/destroy scaffolding this big which is mostly made from wood and some metal bits would be approx under the speed of sound 750-900kmh not supersonic because we can see the cars and hear them at the same time (if supersonic the sound of the car would come AFTER the car passing by)
      6:48
      As JP hits the Nitro the second time you can also see the vapour cone like air movement over the car including the amounts of vibration which means he is somewhere reaching trans-sonic speeds
      And all of that being done by a boxy split-bumper camaro

    • @swisstraeng
      @swisstraeng  3 года назад +125

      Oh yes! I used the free software shotcut to do that, it's plenty enough. What helped me greatly in the edit was that, I'm pretty sure, they made this scene without the frisbee scenes first.
      They likely did that race in one part, and then cut/modified it, and finally added audio.

      I did cut a scene in the video, so it's slightly shorter.
      We'd have a more accurate number with 8 minutes. 50*60/8= 375kph, so, we can guess that their speed is around 400.
      Now this is AVERAGE SPEED
      Since there are parts in the race with turns, the racers might as well achieve 500-600kph on a straight.

    My favorite part of this is at 4:09, navigating the S-curve. The animators went out of their way to show that even in this ludicrously over-the-top fever dream of anime indulgence, physics matter. All the other racers picked massive dragsters loaded with weaponry to deal with outer threats, and they almost turn into ping pong balls; meanwhile, JP's seemingly idiotic decision to go small and light pays off in how he's able to stay planted and weave through the chaos to take the lead.

    • @nikonsv8093

      Yes! This little detail exactly show the whole JP's personality. Despite his dirty past and work with mafia, he is literally the most fair racer among the all. He doesn't use weapons, doesn't try to take down his opponents. For him race it's a race - the winner is the one who have the fastest machine and able to drive on maximum speed.
      Because he is also the only one (and Machine Head) who uses capsules for extra speed. The other race tries to win by only killing their opponents, not outspeed them

      The subplot makes a lot of sence if you know about the history of NASCAR and auto racing in general. TLDR; the mafia started it during prohibition because their drivers liked to race each other in the rum running cars they'd modded to be faster than cop cars. Mob money is what allowed NASCAR to start up in the first place, and what made it at one time, the number 2 sport in America (before it got lame and boring after they put limits on how fast cars could be rather than make tracks safer at high speeds).

    Redline is so far the only story where the protagonist has some kind of "No killing" or "no weapons" code that hasn't given me mixed feelings because he's in it to race, adding weapons is always some kind of compromise between weight, aerodynamics or cost putting everything he has into simply going fast and outplaying the competition is what he lives for.

    One thing I really like is how Sonoshee's vehicle acts when it's on the water. The way it bounces just really sells how it's hover on jets, and I loved watching her spin out on the water. That thing would have no friction and would be difficult to turn, so of course it would spin like crazy once you got it started. It also makes it drifting around the corner make sense too, she can't take the turn like normal, otherwise she'd just shoot right off the course!

    I'd like to take a minute to point out that JP had a 14-15 second gap from the leading pack before he used his nitro cap, catching them in the span of about 3-5 seconds (if we cut out the commentator's remarks about his rocket ride). My guess is that these cars, without nitro, push about 200-220 (since towards the end we see JP's speedometer reading 225 before he pops his second nitro cap). For JP to suddenly close that 14-15 second gap in 3-5 seconds, his car jumped from 215-220MPH to a solid *245-250MPH, maybe beyond that.*
    Towards the end of the race, JP and Sonoshee are both doing ~220MPH until they pop their nitros, and there's no other cars around them. When JP crashes, there's about 5-10 seconds until the rest of the pack catches him at the line (they were both pushing the same 245-250MPH on the run to and past the line, though JP was likely pushing 260-275 since he keeps ahead and starts to pull away from Sonoshee until he crashes). That leaves me to wonder how fast or slow their competitors were to have built that gap in such a short time.
    Not to mention the fact that JP crashes while still under boost at 260-275MPH. A crash that violent at that speed? Dude's lucky to have gotten away with the injuries he did. This sport is fucking insane.

      Yessir. The race is rigged. And JP received his money from the mafia, as a small part of the profits made by the mafia.
