I bought an XJ one time just out of the blue , like on the way to town and there it was . I wheeled around and looked at it on a Saturday, picked it up on Monday . It was a one owner Jeep with low miles and was very clean. I put about $3K in upgrades . The only issue was a cracked cylinder head . At that point I made the repair and a few nice upgrades under the hood like the 4 hole fuel injectors with the heat sleeve like yours . A massive cooling upgrade still had it running right at 200deg. We did a nice set of tires , rear disc brakes and complete front suspension rebuild . That was a fun little vehicle , load the kids and the dog up and head to the beach . Sadly I sold it and have regretted it ever since. I bought my CJ7 in 1989 , it was a one owner Jeep bought by a doctor to be a beach cruiser . The CJ was not very old back then and was like new . I feel very lucky that it was my first vehicle and has been very reliable. Everyone should have at least one fun vehicle but be careful when looking at these vehicles when buying. You said it best that you could go on and on for hours finding stuff to check . My XJ 4.0 had a cracked head and no signs of coolant in the oil , no over full level either . The first indication of a problem was Mobile AL traffic on the bridge it hit 230 . When I made it home I opened my oil cap and looked at the cylinder head and saw a few drops of coolant bubbling out. Luckily no real damage was done and 4.0L heads are not bad to replace or very expensive.

Was the XJ a 2000 or 2001? They had bad head casting, P0331 or something like that. I had a 2001 XJ (first Jeep I ever owned) and it had a bad head. It hit 230 numerous times but never completely overheated. It also had the heat soak issue and back then I didn’t know as much about Jeep so I thought it was a bigger deal than what it was. I’ve owned so many Jeeps now that I don’t even get phased by mechanical problems. With 3 Jeeps to upkeep, I always have 4 or 5 things I need to be fixing lol

@@civilianjeeps it was a 2000 XJ. When I found the cylinder head cracked it gave me an excuse to do upgrades like the larger throttle body and h the Neon injectors . I blasted all new accessories on the front like AC compressor, ps pump and high flow water pump . The upgraded radiator was a must . I think one Jeep is enough to deal with. My CJ is in need of solid axles and I keep putting it off . I will be going to Southern Cj in May with the trailer and it really makes me nervous running those axles . I did take the drums off and inspect everything but still .
