Maybe try to sew these with your serger. Since they are thick, maybe cut them at 5" wide, but not as long. I think they are too thick to really "scrunch" up like a cottom. Maybe only 15" in length. You should be able to get 3 pieces using the longer measurement of the towel. Sell them as "wet hair towel scrunchies" for using after a shower, the beach or the pool.

The terry cloth by the yard is thinner than regular towels and therefore easier to sew with…but the lint still gets everywhere!

For the towel scrunchies I’d definitely use your serger and do a 5” width, it’ll allow more give when pulling the fabric through and won’t be so fidgety!😊

Joann fabric always has half off coupons all the time. And weeks of holidays always has big sale coupons. Try for towel fabric and also for the other Micro fiber fabric. Don't kNow how flannel would work for scrunchies but starting around Thanksgiving they sell flannel for two bucks a yard and many many colors to pick from. Give it a try. Good luck. You can find info online for their coupons.

To cut down on the lint, you should just wash and dry the towels prior to sewing with them.

    Hey Girl, Hey!
Neita Fajita!!! Thanks for another awesome video. I actually made towel scrunchies before the summer began, shot the video too, but never edited it. I used microfiber hand towels for cars from the Dollar Tree and attempted to Tie Dye them. 1st time Tie Dyeing needless to say my tie dyeing was a hottt mess...lol, however the scrunchie turned out cute. When the summer ended I racked up on beach towels as they were marked down, so maybe next summer I'll have them up and ready to sell. I did make some with traditional towels too. The Microfiber towels don't shed as much as the traditional towels. Maybe I'll post my DIY Tie Dye Towel scrunchie making video so the world can get a laugh at my attempt to do something great...lol

Hi, dont know if anyone said, but for thicker stuff, I do....needle down, presser foot up. Usually pulls through much easier. May be worth trying if not done this already by now. Great videos, you inspire me to work !

To be honest when you have a thick seam like that eye protection is a good idea.. I almost took an eye out luckily the string was on the needle and stopped half inch from my eye!!
I have been looking for the yardage of microfiber. I have seen cut towels and you know they have yardage they are cutting up. I couldn't even find it on Alaba type websites.

If you make more of these towel scrunchies try trimming your seam allowance to 1/4 inch, that may help with the bulkiness. But they do look great.

Hello! Great idea, thanks for sharing 😊 Too bad it’s so much work, but they look really comfy. I hope you sell out! Maybe giving the towels a quick wash (or rinse) prior to using them will cut time on having to lint roll everything. I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♀️ just a thought 💜

I hate sewing with Minkie for the same reason. I wonder if spritzing those strips with water and tossing them in the dryer would get rid of enough fluff. With Minkie, I always felt like I was sneezing fluff for DAYS after sewing with it. Another option might be to use a pinking rotary blade.

When sewing with heavy fabric it’s best to use a larger sized needle…like an 80, or 90. I wonder if the method of using ‘GLAD Press & Seal’, like on Minky fabric, would also work on towels and terry cloth? There’s a video on SewingMachinesPlus RUclips, where a lady shows how to use it that way. The cost would add to your schrunchies, but you’d have less mess to clean up. Oh, why not use a wider elastic in the scrunchies. 🧐

Scrunchies? Or face washing wrist bands? Add a towel headband and this would be a great gift.
Also, I purchased a large MI refill er-type fabric at Costco a year or so ago. It had a different pattern on each side.
