Yes, we released a new version of the Brown Sound pack a few months ago using this rig: topjimi.com/products/new-legendary-tones-series-brown-sound-pack-2-0
disagree....Everyone recognizes his rhythm feel and swing was off the charts. Any one of us guitar player that try to cover his stuff find that out REAL fast lol!
I say that all the time too, but what I’ve come to find is that it’s similar to saying Jake E Lee is underrated. You start to realize everyone else thinks the same lol Now, as far as the general public goes… I think those statements ring very true.
You were the final straw on me buying a kemper. The brown sound pack was the push. I bought it the day I got the kemper and played nothing but Van Halen for 3 weeks. Eventually I got it out of my system and played other stuff and haven’t played van Halen in a few years. I may have to this weekend. So many of us tone chased Eddie for decades and you gave us that. Thanks. PS sounds like the variac is a little light in this video or it could just be it needs a little low mids. It sounds cleaner than Eddie but more frequency or variac mush than gain.
@@TopJimiStudios I believe that. Also thanks for being the reason I took the plunge. My only regret of getting a kemper is not doing it 10 years earlier.

That sounds right on the morning. Excellent 👍👍👍👍 playing as well. You did your research. No modeler amp can sound like that. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking.
Great tone. Awesome really. Best sounding Marshall I've heard in awhile and your LP sounds great. You nailed Eddy's tone with a Les Paul! Great playing too...most of Ed's tone was in his fingers and technique in my opinion.
JImi--wow, makin' some noise! Superb job, spot-on perfection tone-wise and nailed the playing! Drop Dead Legs, an all-time favorite of mine too! I had a G-12 80 in a Marshall combo and it sounded good, but in your rig it sounds killer. That Goldtop is gorgeous, formerly owned by Robben Ford?! I've always lusted for a Goldtop, they are just something special. Thanks for the great playing Jimi!
I think it’s just the perfect guitar. Came with the original pots installed which all measured right at 400K Ohms, which gave it a dull tone. I’m guessing that’s why Robben sold it. I replaced the pots and it sounds insanely good now.
I wish I had ears like this - to hear a sound and back out the signal chain like that. It's one thing to read what Ed used, but quite another to know "how" he used them with the infinite range of parameters possible. Well done. I've always loved the guitar tone on 1984 - it's that perfect blend of clean/overdrive that really brings clarity and sparkle to these brilliant musical ideas . In contrast, the tone on 5150 was such a huge departure (and not in a good way) given they were both recorded in the same studio...
That's badass. Would you consider doing an informative video on the gear used here? I have some original 84 G12T-75. This is the first I've heard of Eddie using them, but that was my first thought when I heard them for the first time! I'd love to get more info on the speakers besides greenbacks that he used
Sounds great. As you know, Ed's tone has been the subject of endless debate. And which tone? VH1? WACF? 1984? Was it Jose? Did he slave a Bandmaster? Did he use a soak? Was it really the variac? All of the above? Unfortunately, we'll never know for sure unless Don Landee - or Wolf - actually tells us. Even then, we probably won't believe it. What I know for sure is people are getting really close using different setups. Yours sounds great. David Bray has an amp that sounds great. And, there are several channels that do a great job as well. My tone, which you can hear on some of my past videos, is inspired by Ed's tone. But it's not Ed's...I gave up trying to get his tone because I just couldn't figure it out at the time.
This is one of the songs I'd test my new stereos out with back in the late 80's. Whenever I'd get new components, (6 x 9's) or an amp or equalizer, this was one of the go to songs. Great job you did with it. Heavy duty for sure
