    In this video, I make the base and cut the Greene and Greene style finger joints in the parts and make the ebony plugs and inlays.
    Then I mark out where the ebony plugs and bars will go into the piece, and cut the square holes with a hollow chisel mortiser. The ebony is cut for the plugs and bars, then I proceed to rounding over the plugs as demonstrated by William Ng. You can view the full tutorial on how to make them using this process here: • A Really Fast Way To M...
    I use the Festool Domino DF500 to make slots to hold the base on, then cut the bottom panel for the clock.
    Please visit and follow these two other woodworkers Instagram feeds. They were both very helpful during this build to me, and are both very accomplished woodworkers. I couldn't have gotten this far without their help.

    There's something poetic about taking the time to correct a mistake on a clock build. Good decision, and beautiful clock!

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 лет назад

      HaHa. Thanks buddy! I couldn't have lived it if I knew I covered up a mistake. It is going in my office, and I would have have to live with it every day. Doing it right and fixing the mistake correctly is more important to me.

    At the beginning of Pt.1 I was a little surprised you were making something as "simple" as a clock, how wrong I was!!! Very intricate and demanding detail involved. Looks amazing!

    Very impressive, Guy. I'm not sure if everyone picked up on you not only had to rebuild the two front stiles but the rear stiles as well? Really appreciate you keeping, you being human, in the vid :). Thank you for sharing and for your awesomeness!!

    Nice work Guy. Those misplaced mortises for the ebony plugs were the first thing I saw in that shot. Wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. Nice save on it!!

    Very impressive Guy. I am am incra fan also. What is the length of the aluminium saw fence, as it extends beyond the table? Did you order this as a special item? Cheers

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 лет назад

      Thanks Leigh! The fence on my saw is part of their XL package. The table on my table saw is a little larger than most, and it required a special fence and carriage for the extra dept of the table top.

    I hate to be a nit-picker Guy but when you're editing your videos you really should lower the audio levels of your power tool shots when you've got everything laid out on your timeline. It's a nice comfortable level when you're talking about what you're doing but then when you cut to tool usage the volume goes through the roof. That aside I'm loving this build :) Many thanks.

      Thanks Joe! I haven't made a piece for a customer in about 15 years or so now. Maybe I will start again someday. And mahogany is awesome to work with. A little more pricey than what I'm used to though.

    • @tooljunkie555
      @tooljunkie555 7 лет назад

      GuysWoodshop man u definitely should .one of theae days..just like a word of mouth kinda thing. And yea the mahogany is but the oiled end result it awesome!! What type of oil are u finishing with? Natural danish darkens it up just enough amd leaves it looking like it got a little sun tan..lol anyways can't wait to see what it looks like once you start finishing it!🖒

    • @tooljunkie555
      @tooljunkie555 7 лет назад

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 лет назад +1

      Hey Joe, not sure if this is one of many G&G pieces yet. Maybe, maybe not :) I dyed the mahogany today, and will be using Arm R Seal satin for the finish and then dark brown paste wax.

  • @northerndarklight5305
    @northerndarklight5305 7 лет назад

    No, no, I think you're fine with the placement of the plugs. Look at a Greene & Greene chair. The mortises are where they need to be, not always lined up with other mortises closeby. They are in pleasing positions when you look at all of them together, and can see the overall positional symmetry.

    • @GuysShop
      @GuysShop  7 лет назад +1

      Agreed. However it was one of those "that's not were they're supposed to be" things, and I would always know I made a mistake and didn't fix it.
