10 3 pointers in a row all bricks, obvious traveling, constant foul bating, free throws, free throws, free throws, zero defense, zero hustle, zero team play, star players walking around like a crack head, etc... its absolutely embarrassing.
Don't forget, no touchy, touchy.

It’s like watching my friends play nba live on Super Nintendo. Literally.

People who haven't watched the NBA in the 90's has no idea what real basketball is all a out. Modern NBA is total CRAP! It's absolute shiiit
I went from an everyday NBA watcher to the point where I haven't watched in 5 years.
Same here. I stopped being an everyday watcher for 12 years and it has dwindled down to only some highlights and some scores. But it's for many reasons, not just Adam Silver. He is just one of the problems. It started back when David Stern was still the commissioner of the league. The overreaction to the drops in popularity in after the retirements of Michael Jordan and his overcorrection to the "Malice In The Palace". There are plenty more other things.
Same
Same! I miss real basketball not the clown show Silver and LeFraud haven turned it into.
I’m 50 and in the same boat
yeah every game being a 3pt contest is like watching a random numbers generator. Absolute not fun anymore, especially when the players currently got the charisma of a sack of potatoes, and the refs do not even allow for any emotion anymore, so it will not really give the guys a chance to be somewhat relatable. Add all the dumb marketing shit to it that players want to pitch to people. These guys are less nba players but more so influencers. This has to change, it should be about the sport itself and not drama and trying to weave stupid storylines that noone cares about except for some brainwashed consumerism victims...
The NBA is a perfect reflection of society these days, high entitlement and low accountability from the players to the top office.
It's a damn shame really
+1
You are correct.
Don't forget: We were the ones who stayed up all night (because we live in Germany and fell in love with the game during the '92 Olympic games) to watch MJ and Barkley go at each other in the finals. Before the days of the internet, the whole world still tuned in to see these absolute legends battle it out. It just makes me so angry and frustrated to see what the game has become, because this is not the game I love and that have been playing for over 30 years. I feel your pain, Sean. I really do. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually loathe NBA basketball now.
yes, I actually started watching euroleague way more, because they pretty much still play real basketball, kinda how the nba was around 90s/2000s, with most of the focus on TEAM basketball and running proper sets and adjust in the right way to traps and defensive changes etc.
I was living over seas when I was 12 I was watching nba games at 3 am

20 REASONS WHY NBA RATINGS ARE DOWN
1. traveling not called (palming the ball)
2. team hopping
3. super teams
4. no defense
5. load mgmnt
6. no post play
7. no midrange play
8. forced lebron goat narrative
9. politics included in sports
10. horrible allstar weekend
11. non-competitive players
12. flopping
13. traveling not called (too many steps)
14. no team rivalries
15. no unique team identities
16. feminist man-hating sports pundits (malaika)
17. games are too expensive to attend
18. officials seem corrupt
19. streaming games is expensive
20. other non-failing sports are taking viewers' attention (and money)
BONUS!
21. if overpaid players dont care, why should paying fans?
16: booo. politics included on your list sucks
You forgot the most important reason: too many three point attempts. On average there are 75 three point attempts per game. Just unwatchable.
22. Betting (and all the sh that comes with it)
23. Final 2 minutes that take 30 minutes in reality. It stopped me watching in the mid 90s. I dont even try to figure out how bad it is nowadays, when companies have to profit 77 bn dollars to make the latest tv/streaming deal profitbale. I guess there are more commercial breaks than actual play. All this BS, only to make 50 mio a year contracts possible. Its a freak show. NFL is heading the same way. Just wait 10 years. Nothing lasts forever when greed is all that matters.
Also: Players seem more focused on hanging out with supermodels and getting their next tattoo than in being 'warriors' on the court. They don't love the game anymore...just their next inflated paycheck. It's hard to understand why the arenas are still mostly full. It would be hilarious and fitting if 138 people showed up for a Clippers game.
You nailed it on the head
NBA is no longer a sport. It is a show. A 3pt contest. There is no defense whatsoever. No rivalries. No intensity. Every team is playing the same. It is boring as hell. Adding some aweful ref decisions (travels) and you got the most boring sport in the world.
👏🏾Yeah I agree, the refs are no help at all, infact they are helping the game go to 💩 because of the horrendous no calls on a certain old ass Super ⭐ that needs to retire next season for example.🤷🏾♂️
A freak show, to be more precise.
It's a glorified shootaround. Effort in the all-star game isn't the problem. It's lack of effort in the actual games that's the issue
perfectly said 👍🏿. a disgrace smmfh
Having women ref was the wrong move.
Adam Silver, Lebron James, and ESPN are the ones to blame. And that's the bottom line.
When it doubt blame LeBron. Your car don't start.... blame LeBron. Your wife cheat... blame LeBron. You get fired from your job... blame LeBron.
I mean you treat him like your daddy anyway. Like he responsible for those sexual butterflies you used to get by watching the nba players in those short shorts. Maybe if you talk to your actual father, maybe you can stop trying to place blame on a dude you don't even know, but act like he's ruining your childhood🤷🏾♂️
LeBron 😂😂😂😂😂😂…….bottom line Is you’re an absolute 🤡
@@sholovesholove4620 You think you're funny, huh? So tell us about the feelings you get praising LeBron. Did you go to a DiDDy party together? Were you the "belle of the ball"? IMO, you are smartn't and it's LeBron's fault.
And not to bash further, my guy, how many games have you watched him play start to finish? NOT just the LeBronlights! Last game against the Cavs, he did his signature "walk off" AGAIN and no one calls him out? TF is up with that? ANY player do that during the Bird, MJ, Kobe era, he'd be suspended, or off the team! But maybe you do know him, so explain it to us. Why JJ calls Austin out for TOs, but never LeBron? Why "analysts" shout LAL need to trade up for D, but won't hold LeBron accountable for SO MANY defensive failures? Somehow LeBron is the one who needs help. Explain please. And remember, guy. Some of us have been playing ball and watching NBA before you were walking, probably.
Relax dude
Almost every single player today carries and travels anytime they have the basketball. Its infuriating!
And then we’re told how skilled they are and what incredible ball handlers they are while trashing players of yesteryear who dribbled the ball according to the actual written rules. I’d take plumbers and firemen any day over these podcasters and instagram models.
I started really noticing the traveling in the 90s. Patrick Ewing traveled on every drive.
@@Hecules-p7k And he got called for those travels you're talking about.. This brings me to my question, is he the only example you have, or did you get the info from people who said Stockton and MJ couldn't go left??
@ I only watched Knick games and quite frankly I’m not a basketball fan since it’s a sport you only need to watch the last minute of every game but I distinctly recall saying to whoever I was with that I can’t believe they don’t call that along with most of the fouls.
@@Hecules-p7k You need to be a fan of basketball in order to make comments about it.. How am I supposed to take your word for anything if you can't watch an entire game?? If what you say about Ewing is true, then it solidifies MJs case, since he had to battle Ewing who was being helped by the refs
Lol, we both started our videos about this the same way, “What took everyone so long?”… Adam Silver needs to be fired”.
You’re absolutely right about blaming the wrong people. I’m so sick of Silver being a spineless wimp who makes excuses. He said the All-Star game would bring back defense…. And the opposite happened. He said they would crack down on flopping… and they’re doing it now more than ever. He’s done nothing about load managing or traveling, and we literally have him on film admitting that HE CHOSE to inflate scoring by making the game less physical.
I’ve honestly given up on this league improving until this guy is fired. He needs to be out TODAY
Hey. I came across your channel few weeks ago. Good work!
But he brought in all that Saudi money! Not to mention all the China money! He's doing a great job!! Who cares about ratings?? Don't forget to fight for "social justice" while they take money from these places also...what an absolute joke!

Jonny and Sean! I feel like we’re at the fourth wall.
The NBA game is broken basketball top to bottom.
It's never coming back. The young generations play the game in a way where it's almost illegal to dribble the ball inside of the three-point line. I wish I was joking about that. I don't think I've ever seen someone under 30 grab an offensive rebound and not run it out to the three-point line and jack up a 3 ball. And they shoot roughly 15% from three on a good day
Feel exactly the same for many many years. Born in 81, watched NBA at night in Germany. Man those good times are long gone. Lebron, KD, Steph really destroyed the game for us tbh. No pride, no respect for the GOAT MJ and all the greats back then. Instead we travel around the world nine times per games and have to watch like 90 3s. Wtf happened to game we all loved. My entire early life was about basketball, the NBA, the players, the shoes, the gear, the culture. Nothing is left. Wemby start flopping and shooting one leg 3s is a nightmare. Wtf is going on!
So right brother, watched the 90s from betlin back then, dsf times😢
It's not even the same sport anymore.
Don’t forget to bet on the game!
That's like the emphasis on most sports these days. Can't watch a game without them advertising it smh. It's like they are enticing us with it to keep our attention to watch it
@@harrisonshouldice5451That's like the emphasis on most sports these days. Can't watch a game without them advertising it smh. It's like they are enticing us with it to keep our attention to watch it
Exactly. It's completely disfigured.
Of course the NBA is a joke! Lebron and all these guys can play well into their 40's because of how soft the league has become! Can you imagine these guys playing in the 80's and 90's, everyone will be hurt ten games into the season. Durant will be crying for every soft foul, Lebron will be flopping even more then today and once Curry does his shimmy dance he gets clotheslined next time down the floor.
I love what you said here. This is ridiculous.
I see it as an intertwined 3 part issue.
1. Silver. What a soft clown.
2. Players. Soft, half hearted effort. Saying they are more “skilled”. It’s not more skill. It’s more flexibility with the rules. You can do more moves when you’re allowed 5 steps.
3. Officiating. The refs are horrible. The game is officiated in a horrible way. Call a travel. A carry. A lane violation. Don’t let the player cross the free throw line before the ball hits the rim when shooting free throws. Simply choosing what to call and what to ignore has led us here.
And all 3 of these are intertwined. I think the easiest thing to do is get a new commish who cares about the game, and not just the money. I understand the money matters, but if no one watches the game the money goes away. Next, call the game straight, by the rules. If refs can’t do that, replace them. And finally, if the players want to complain about having to play a back to back, or continue to flop and cry, get rid of guaranteed contracts.
Someone once said, it’s tough to get up and train like your life depends on it when you’re sleeping in silk pajamas. That is today’s players. They got it so easy that having to put any effort in seems like the end of the world.
There’s more details, but this covers a good chunk. Thanks BTM!
also high up on the list : setting offensive screens while moving and elbowing the defensive player seems to be a new sport now, and player seem to try their best to find the limit of what they can do before a ref finally finds his whistle when they pretty much wrestle people while setting offensive screens.
Wry good points you made I also covered some of those in my rant in the comments 😝
Skipping college also had a little to do with it. I think it lead to your number two. The lack of fundamental basketball has made the game less entertaining to watch. There’s been more one on one and less team basketball. Players don’t seem to appreciate what it took to get to where they are.
@@Kunfucious577 I agree. There’s so many tentacles to all this.
@justinsalzl1517 I would add the fans as number 4 on your list. If people collectively would stop showing up and handing their money over, it would start to impact the decisions that are made. We have to demand accountability for the joke that the NBA has made of the game.
The modern NBA is terrible. A far cry from what it use to be. So many issues. Too many 3s (many back and forth bricks), terrible officiating, load management, entitled players, little to no defense, no serious competition, too many flops and ticky tacky fouls. It's a mess.
Great video, and I couldn’t agree more. I grew up watching the nba in the 80’s and 90’s and loved it. Now it’s unwatchable. The blatant traveling is ridiculous.

I'm 100% with you on this! As a fan as a baller who grew up in the 80s and in the 90s, I miss hand-checking. Also, bigs being allowed to man the middle! Plus they used to d up even at all star games! The game meant something back then! And there's also the dunk contest where back in the day the best high flyers in the NBA would compete like Dr. J, Larry Nance, Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, T-Mac, Stevie Franchise (I get it the 2000 dunk contest wasn't in the 90s but you get what I'm saying), and plus all-star games where they actually gave a damn about competing! Speaking of competition, guys wanted to compete against each other instead of forming superteams! Thank God for Giannis and Jokic who showed that even in today's watered-down version of the NBA you can still win a championship! And do away with load management by lowering the boom on those lazy dudes, by fining them millions of dollars! If Michael Jordan played in all 82 games 9 times in a much more physical era! And let's not forget that some people legitimately think that LBJ is the goat! I'm 47 years old and it's the first time in my lifetime where there's a considerable amount of people who think that someone who stacks the deck, never been part of a dynasty, and has a losing record in the NBA finals plus has lost in international competition, yup, that guy they consider him the goat! Which tells me that these unfortunately they don't have a winning mentality! Back in the day guys in the goat convo had winning records in the NBA finals, while sticking it out on one team, instead of guys like LBJ and KD tryna form the Avengers and the Justice League destroying the competitive balance and again I thank God for Giannis and the Joker!
It should be mandatory for NBA players to watch the Netflix Celtic/Lakers documentary and Pistons 30 for 30…back when rivalry and tough competition was in the league
Yes
What good would it do? Even if the players were willing to try and copy that, everyone would get ejected half way through the second quarter.
The NBA has to stop the LeBron agenda! Twenty plus years of that bs campaign! Other stars emerged but were overshadowed by the LBJ agenda! Now the new generation is being strangled by it! Fire Perkins, Nick, Stephen, and Colin!
THANK YOU!!!!!
make the contracts non-guaranteed and performance-based.
force them to play. force them to do their job and show up for work like the rest of us, who arent lucky enough to be paid millions of dollars.
then, if the players dont want to play, get new players.
it wouldnt be hard to find 450 new talented players who are grateful for the opportunity and willing to play hard.
and seriously, what are the current players going to do? walk away from their money and the easy life? we all know how quickly they all go broke once they stop playing.
I think rules should also be changed, allow more contact - return hand check maybe?-, today's NBA has less friction than All Star games in the 90s. It's extremely boring
@@federicovelazquez3882I’m born and raised in the Bay Area. Been going to warriors games since the late 80s as a kid. I hadn’t missed a game on tv or in person in almost 30 years. This season I’ve only watched a small handful of games. You’re right. They’re boring three point contests and wide open layup lines. The players are basically just traffic cones on defense. Then we’re told how skilled they are when they travel and carry every time they touch the ball and still struggle to average 30 ppg when the finals scores are 160-155 and absolutely nobody is playing defense. That doesn’t point to highly skilled players. Did you know the average three point shooting percent back in the 90s was only 2% lower than the current NBA league wide three point percentage? That doesn’t point to better shooters, just points to them taking a lot more of them. You know five mins into a game how your team is going to do. If they aren’t hitting threes and the other team is it’s game over. That’s incredibly boring basketball.

I completely agree. As we saw in this video, there's no competitive nature. Last season I enjoyed a little of the playoffs, specially in the west matchups, with Wolves and Mavs playing a more physical basketball, but ended up there. In MJ times it was hard to get under the rim but 3s weren't easy, and teams were taking around 10 3s ppg, now more than a 50% are 3p. Unwatchable. Hope they realize this cannot continue this way.
The NBA, NFL and MLB generates billions of dollars, and you're complaining about how much the players get paid?
Shouldn't the players get all the money they generate?
And if you want to make millions?

I appreciate the honesty. I would also like to see adam silver go. he does nothing about these ego tripping refs. Also the lakers winning the in-season tournament last year? And the covid ring? Its a business and a product. I think the money is more important than the game for them
The COVID ring was the last straw. Just shameless. Adam Silver's solution to a problem appears to be ...create a new gimmick. Don't mention the traveling. I tell my son that no one grew up playing basketball like they play in the NBA
well of course it is a business, it always has been, but the way they are running it now, they are driving it to the ground, they are at historic levels of suck. they are basically cratering their entire product nose first into the ground like a tumbling jumbo jet. 48% lower viewership, this is nothing short of catastrophic, and I would not be surprised if they sack Silver after this season.
@MrSheduur the thing with viewership is most things are dropping. The better metric is the value of the deals for the showing rights and you cant dismiss the fact the NBA programming rights are going up. If the NBA wasn't a major success right now we wouldn't be seeing the massive increase in salary caps and other values related too it. Even a bad NBA team is worth more than a championship team was worth 20 years ago. Thats saying something.
Many people have found alternative ways to watch than traditional viewing methods, aka TV broadcasting. On top its not even shown on free to air TV around the world like it once was.
Think of it like this, we used to watch videos on VHS/DVD predominantly. You wouldn't say movies are failing at viewership because the rental rates of DVDs and also cinema rates are down.
Thank you for addressing the frustrations of the majority of basketball fans out there.
Labron coming into the league was the beginning of the end. No rivalries like the old days. No run and gun aggression. 3 pointers are boring
3 pointers aren't the worst thing but it needs to be like the 90s. If that's not possible then no more 3 points.

The problem is that Adam Silver does not work for us, he works for the owners and the owners are making more than ever before.

at one point the money will dry up. 48% less viewership means something
@@studiobauhaus7740did you not see the new broadcasting contract they just signed? Its massive. Viewership going down clearly isnt losing them money. The fact within 1 hour of any game we have a condensed highlight reel on RUclips also would take away alot of viewers that used to watch.

Reffing is the ISSUE
This is where it started from....No hand checking will produce no effort and Defense...on Top of that players was hypnotized on Stephs ability to shoot the 3 point shot and when they saw all the praises he was getting from shooting the 3 ...it started causing the players to envy The attention steph was getting and they started shooting 3's trying to get the same response from the fans like the fans were giving Steph...No player wanted to create their own identity instead they wanted what Steph had...THE ATTENTION....
Or... they all realized that 3pts are 1 more than going for a 2pt shot.
I saw a video where a former NBA player said that he attended a little kids tournament (under 10) and they were attempting 3pt shots despite not being strong enough to get the ball to the rim.
@@AndenSeefahrer A 2 point dunk is a 99% shot percentage. A "good" 3 point shot percentage is 40-45%. That's not even as good as a coin flip. So you'll give up 60% chance of a shot going in for 1 point? That's not even mathematically sound. The whole point used to be to get as close to the rim as possible for the best shot percentage. The only reason putting up 50 threes a game is viable today is because the other team is doing the same ridiculous thing. But there are barely any big men even playing in the paint, and no one knows how to post up anymore, and no one can shoot a hook which is literally an unblockable shot. Instead, all we get to see is face up basketball where players turn down open dunks for a potential 3 pointer that has a higher percentage of missing than making.
@MikeSchmidt969
Sure, the higher percentage is a good point.
On the other hand many teams still have a good balance between shooting threes and going to the paint even without any boring three dribblings from a big man isolation post up play. It was always the same and predictable. The most powerful wins this matchup (Shaq!). Wow!
I follow the NBA since 1994 and haven't enjoyed it more ever since.
The skillset is the highest that has ever been there. We are seen more handles and moves than ever. Defenders have to respect every single player because everyone can shoot. In the past it was 2/5 or 3/5 players that defenses had to be aware of.
I appreciate history players and the way the game was played back then, but today - besides the flopping issue - I enjoy it even more.
@@AndenSeefahrer To call post up play boring and predictable vs a 3 point jump shot is kind of silly. A 3 point jump shot is catch and shoot - the exact same thing all the time. Post up play changes depending on the defense and the defender. It's not the same from play to play at all. And when there were great centers on each team, the strongest didn't always win. If you've watched it as long as you have, you should be able to agree with that. Your experience doesn't sound very honest. The skillset of players these days is minimal. It's all face up play, and the defense is weak at best, and yet they still miss simple jump shots from 10-15 feet. They aren't more skilled at all. I'll give you more athletic since they run way more these days than before. The game was slower then. But it's not more skilled. Your claim that "everyone can shoot" is just false. Did you know that 3 point shooting is only 2% better today than it was in the 90's? Look it up. Shooting today is more prevalent, but not more effective. There are more possessions today, not better shooting. So scoring is up because they're taking more shots, not because they're better at making them. Sorry man, those are the numbers talking, not just me.
So true about less talented players who'd be willing to put in effort. Would make it far more watchable and give players who maybe aren't top-tier to get a chance to shine.
Simple fix, bring back the late 80s-early 2000s rules. Hate the flopping, stupid fouls. We wanna see late 80s - early 2000s ball.
No you don't. Because if you did, the NBA never woulda changed it. The ones bitchin about it are the ones that were asking to change the rules
@@sholovesholove4620 no, actually everyone was mad when the rule changes happened and the viewership reflects that. Dropped off almost instantly after Jordan left the Bulls and has been in steady decline since with rule changes getting worse over time. Rules were changed to make new offensive stars with artificial statistics because they needed a "new Jordan". Ended up back firing because what made Jordan and stars of the past great was them winning in spite of the diversity of tough, competitive play.
@TayDays1128 Actually, the rule changes were for Europe players. The NBA was trying to expand, globally. However the European players were having a hard time. The rules loosened up, to accommodate the European style of play. Now to fit the narrative, guys are blaming young American players for adapting to the rule changes that were made for guys that WERE NOT physical. EVERY playground and organized basketball league or park, played physical. The college and high school ranks FOLLOW the nba. And young guys, NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE, follow the nba. I just think it's a weak American move to be blaming your own kind, when they only adapted to the environment.
@@sholovesholove4620 Its also true that the NBA removed physicality to enable more foreign players to enter, but i still blame American players for adjusting to the new style of basketball. Guys like Kobe proved you could play a near oldschool style in a newschool league & outperform your peers. Question is why would Stern and Silver want more foreigners in the NBA if the best talent is here?
@TayDays1128 For wider appeal. For higher profits. They went to Europe in 1994. That's IN THE MIDDLE of the time you say was so great. Viewership wasn't amazing. That's the whole point of the outhouse dream team. Before then, the leagues best players weren't really playing in the Olympics. David stern had the idea to put the best players on the Olympic team, to engage interest in Europe. And at that time, the physical play of the European leagues were not at the same level as the US, and they struggled with the physicality. In addition, European players WERE THE FLOPPERS. THEY over exaggerated EVERYTHING. But yall blame your own kind. It's LITERALLY part of ALL THEIR SPORTS. But yall blame your own for the league changing rules. And let's not get it confused. Kobe enjoyed a lot of trips to the free throw line because of the rule changes. But so did manu ginoboli. So did Tony Parker. So did Peja stojokovich.
The league has changed several times, over time. When the league became more finesse, finesse type players were drafted and adapted. When it was physical, the most physical teams adapted and won. And that was the 80s, NOT the 90s. Then the 90s style of ball was next and players adapted to that style. The rules changed, and players adapted to them. That's like blaming citizens for following rules their government put in place, to improve their success. It sounds real childish
This downfall began when LeBron came into the league. It is because of him. He is the face of the nba. Not sure why. The guy is not even top twenty all time. Complains more than he plays. Gets coaches fired team mates traded. Had had the rules changed to benefit him. Had a tournament created to help him. Make no mistake. He is the issue. Great video.
He has good numbers because of the soft league
@@1234sumpinnew
Not to mention being able to barrel over players when he goes to the hoop, getting credited for fake assists, having his own teammates box out for him so he can pad his rebound stats
Absolutely Leflopqueen is the number 1 issue also Adam Silver. Leflopqueen being face of NBA is a complete utter joke, forced upon NBA fans also number 1 reason viewership plummeting.
Preach! I tried to watch my Bulls play last night and all they did was jack up 3s. They weren’t hitting, but instead of adjusting they just continued to jack that crap up. I know the Bulls aren’t great this year, but the game is soooo simplified it’s infuriating.
Cant complain about Magic as comissioner. He would be top tier.
Sean, I so appreciate your emotional take on the game you love and grew up with. You pull no punches.
Another huge part of how the NBA is dying is the absolute disregard for the fans that the league and players demonstrate.
I'm making $50m per year and I need to rest for a game or two? Load management? Of course, as the league is run by the players, this is acceptable.
Keep the league's feet to the fire Sean.
I stop watching the NBA about 10 years ago…. I agree with you… My era was 90’s & 2000’s ….. now it’s trash 🗑️
I'm from Brooklyn NY and was watching a Nets game the other day and it was a Three on one fast break and guess what the other two players without the ball did??? Ran to the three point line and missed the shot..... I was floor cause back in the day's you're going straight to the bench for that..... Not in today's NBA
Happens every game..just complete stupidity
Noticed this a while back.So players most likely no longer do figure 8 drills,no longer do 3 on 1 drills where the ball doesnt touch the floor etc like we were trained back in the day?no wonder so called skilled players today are so fundamentally weak. The game has devolved.
Adam Silver needed to go years ago. Worst NBA commissioner in my lifetime and I'm almost 50.
I can't watch two teams miss 3 pointer after 3 pointer either. Todays NBA is unwatchable for me
yeah I rather watch hard nosed defense and interior play that leads to two points at a much higher percentage of making the shot than people clanking 3s. Average 3pt percentage is around 35%, so 2 out of 3 shots are misses... compared to around 50% when you go towards the basket, and even when the interior play leads to nothing, at least there is action while fighting for loose balls, rebound battles etc, compared to somebody parking on the wing, and shooting almost fully uncontested threes and the most that happens is the player falling backwards trying to fish for a call from the refs without actual contact...
These crazy people claiming that we do not like NBA because too many 3-pointers! Now these Same crazy people go crazy when Caitlin Clark shooting boring 3-pointers! Stephen A Smith and crazy people want tough defence low scoring NBA! Same people want Caitlin Clark to be free to shoot! Caitlin Clark won athlete of year award only because she is White! Simone Bilels and Shohei Ohtani better than Clark this year! Denver Nuggets scored 126,5 points in 1982 scoring NBA team regular season average record! And NBA was only 3rd most popular sport in USA! World Series baseball had two times bigger tv ratings than NBA Finals in 1980s!
@@MrSheduur Except that's not true. FG% is historically high these days. Take out the 1980s (1979-90 to be specific) and the past two years would have actually been the highest two years for FG% in NBA history.
I first saw NBA 1990 when I was 9 yrs old in my neighbors TV who had cable it was a game between the Bulls and Pistons and fell in love with it instantly now I can't even finish watching a single quarter of the game.
I started watching before Jordan started at North Carolina. Most of it is crap, but watching Luka and Joker is always entertaining. I miss the defense, but that level of dominance over the entire court is great to watch.
I can't even watch 2 minutes
@@SDesWriterLOL as if Luka and Joker played defense to dominate all over the court 😊
Basketball was my favorite sport in the 80s and 90s. Even the early 2000s, it was tied for first with me. It was right there with football at that point in my life.
Now, it isn’t even in my top 5. I prefer football, hockey, baseball, soccer and rugby more than the nba. Shoot, I enjoy MLG more than the crap they call basketball today. love your channel and I love your take. I couldn’t agree more. I still watch the playoffs and pay attention to who wins the championship. I enjoy sports. But the regular season means nothing to me anymore. The stars don’t seem to care so why should I? I haven’t in a decade almost. I have not gone to a game in person since 08. It’s a shame. There is some fantastic talent in today’s game. Or do we just say today’s “3 point contest”? That clip you shared…god I wanted to throw my phone looking at that crap. That’s not competitive basketball. That’s a crock of shit that they call basketball.
They gotta give techs every time the players whine, start calling travels, stop calling touch fouls and pay the players less. People don't watch for points, they watch for competitiveness, and there is none. The fact bronny got a make a wich career is all you need to know. He sucks, shouldn't be there. Lebron needs to retire.
Bro, these players are not better, its simply that they dont get tired out during the game because they do nothing else but stand around the 3 point line waiting for the open 3. I guarantee you if any of these teams would play the bulls of the 90's the second half score would be 60-30, they would get so tired they would need medical assistance. And dont give me the "they are more athletic" bs, Charles or Shaq or even Karl for that matter, if went up for a dunk and got contested by todays guys, it would be the end of their careers. Very few could hold their grounds if they were back in the 80's and 90's.
The game is boring. There are too many 3s, no defense, and this load management sh!+ is just nonsense.
Adam sliver and Lequeen james 😂 steph curry era when MJ played NBA viewership was on the all time high with out social media 😂
A much much higher percentage of the public were watching those games compared to now. MJ had almost 40 million people watching his las finals when there were only 270 million people so basically 15% of the public was watching. This last finals barely drew in 3% of the public. Let that sink in. 3%. So basically 97 out of 100 people couldn’t be bothered to watch a single second of the game while 1 out of every 6 people watched MJ. Those numbers really brings the decline into stark clarity.
@@cotati76not really a good comparison. MJs last finals was already known prior it was his last game and so it was historic.
We also had far less access to different forms of media back then. In 1998 there was no streaming it, or watching it later etc. You watched it live or likely miss out until you can find a replay elsewhere.
Plus it was MJ on the end of a 2nd 3 peat. That alone drives hype.
Celtics were a clear favourite last year and lets face it, no one is wanting to watch Tatum over MJ, MJ actually competed and played hard to the end. Kind of kills the hype.
Id be curious as to what the true consumption levels are now for games. Taking into account more access to all games, ability to watch later and on demand etc. Id imagine its still far lower but many sports are and that's a global phenomenon going on.
I’ve been watching since about 1984 and he’s absolutely right. The game is a shell of what it once was. There is no defense and passing up wide open dunks to pass for 35% chance on a 3 pt shot is insane. The 3 second defense rule has emptied out the lane. They need to get rid out that so centers can actually be centers again and block shots instead of shooting 3’s
No defence. Logicaly it becomes a shooting competition. It`s pathetic
Travels, carries and moving screens dont get called, everything is a tech now, constant foul baiting, load management, a barrage of gambling ads and its becoming more difficult and expensive to watch NBA games. No other basketball league has these problems to that degree, not college or euroleague. Olympic games played with FIBA rules and refs were a breath of fresh air.
Even highlights are boring now.
I know. Also it’s not unpredictable anymore. I remember getting anxious because I didn’t really know who would win.
No variety. Moves are predictable
Three-point shooting cóntests masquerading as NBA games are BORING!!!!
Lebron being the star of the league, allowing James Hardens step back to be a move and not a travel, sloppy play with the chucking up 3's.. the whole revolving the 2020 season around George Floyd & Breonna Taylor... that stuck a fork in it.
Big facts!
yeah and whats also messed up is how they basically used the eurostep as a get out of jail card for almost every player now being allowed to just do 3 steps before a layup or a shot, without ever actually performing a euro. It is absolutely crazy right now, and refs simply look on and not call that. If you talk about this, all these clowns come up with "its a gather step" which in 99% of the cases simply ISNT the case, but it just sounds great to just call it that to ignore it as a problem. And to then tell us these players are just more skilled? LOL, they just get away with way more stuff than previous generations of players who had to play against real tough defense, could not move as freely on offense and had coaches who would have ripped them a new one if they ran a fastbreak and instead of finishing it with a almost 100% chance of making a 2pt layup, go to the three point line and miss a goddamn three point shot on a fastbreak. This just happened a couple nights ago... what the f is wrong with these players?
don't forget "load management", ha! million dollar athletes needing a day off, what's the matter are your footsies tired?
I agree with all you said except the George Floyd / Breonna Taylor part.
Yes it did,I fully agree with you 💯.🤦🏾♂️🙄
We are tired of watching these over paid clowns
We can blame the NBA Board of Governors. Each NBA team has a representative on the board. Adam Silver was given an extension by the NBA Board of Governors earlier this year that will keep him as the commissioner until around 2030.
Cuz he made a deal with Saudi Arabia that brought a bunch of money into the league. Money over integrity of the game
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me?!
These corporations will never learn that the bread and butter will always be American consumers. They can get all the international deals they want, if the we lose interest, the world will lose interest.
Don’t confuse the masses 😂
Make centers great again.
Bringing the truth.
Ive been saying this for the last 3 years. If the NBA players keeps shooting 3 every game. All the fans will tune out and leave. People don’t want to see that
And on top of all that drama the leagues self-proclaimed king quit social media as his past interactions with a shady hip hop mogul resurface to haunt him…!
I cannot wait for the day this dude finally retires, or at least the Lakers trade him... it has been almost 7 years now for the Lakers to be held hostage by Lebron. I would have rather watched them build with what they had, even it that had meant a couple years of being bad to mid, than to see all of his arrogance at full display, while playing zero defense, and still trying to call himself the GOAT.
@ not just the Lakers mate, the one thing he dominated for 20 years is media narratives and the whole Bronny debacle is the cherry on top of his pile of bs!
Fire Adam Silver!!!!
Adam Silver controls the officials. Refs regularly shade heavily for league preferred outcomes. After long enough, players stop trying to win and instead promote their own individual brands.
My love of the game started in the late 70's with The Dr. himself. In 80 I turned 10 and was privileged to watch the NBA grow and grow. Kareem was already there, then Magic and Bird and so many more came in OMG. Then Jordan. All being cultivated properly. It was an honor to see. Now with horrible rules and all you have mentioned. Its just sad to see the decline of what was one so much greater.
Sean I couldn't agree more with your take. Chicago and Warriors shot a combined 108 three point attempts. I can't watch this style of ball
Today’s NBA is like watching the WWE. Back then it used to be a rivalry now is a joke..
Im a younger fan and while I still love the game I can’t help but sigh when I see a 3 on 1 fast break end in a 3 point shot or every other play being a pick and roll ending in either a 3 or a lob pass
If they wore tighter shorts and smaller shoes they would start acting right brugh
Totally agree! The NBA keeps changing, but many parts of the 80s and 90s were undeniably superior. Here’s what needs to happen, and it needs to happen now:
1. Push Back the Three-Point Line
It’s infuriating that nearly everyone can sink a three like it’s a free throw. Move the line further out. Stop rewarding mediocre long-range shots that anyone can make. If you want three points, you should have to work for it.
2. Ban Zone Defenses
Zone is for amateurs who can’t handle real defense. Man-to-man challenges players to step up and guard their matchup without hiding behind a lazy scheme. Get rid of zone defenses entirely. The NBA should showcase elite, in-your-face defense-not timid formations better suited to high school teams.
3. Enforce Traveling Again
The NBA’s so-called “gather” steps and pivot foot loopholes are a disgrace. Traveling is traveling, end of story. No more extra steps or bizarre rule interpretations that let stars break the most basic rule in basketball. Referees need to call it every single time.
I'm 💯 percent in agreement. I think they need to start by removing Siliver and the James's from the NBA. Change the rules back to style of play in 90s. Make a rule where so much of your paycheck is dependent upon you perfomance on the court and how many games you play. An find a kid with that killer mentality of Kobe,Jordan,Magic, or Bird and promote the shit out of him to make him new face of NBA.
That’s how those guys in the NFL get paid. Mostly inducements. It’s why the product is a million times better than the NBA. Those guys went to get paid. They don’t get to collect a full paycheck while not playing games. I think you’re right. If the NBA went back to that we’d see a massive change in their attitudes.
Preach man! I fkn hate todays NBA.
They’re all friends, no rivalry.
Soft.
3 point contest every game.
Flopping.
Foul baiting.
Rest. No respect for fans. Play a quarter at least for that kid in the stands that came to see you (injuries aside).
When I saw the rigging, I stopped watching. That rigging is Queen James winning against the Warriors on the real king James birthday.
2016 Cavaliers vs Warriors finals was most definitely rigged! That year finals was not Cavaliers, was Thunders vs Warriors conference finals.
i couldnt agree with you more. as bill walton would say when things were falling apart before his eyes... "this is not basketball"
David Stern had Mj, Adam Silver is trying to replicate what David by creating fake narrative to build Lbj as his guy but the public isn’t believing because we have eyes and it’s pushing lots of hard core and casual fans away, add in the no calls for traveling, carrying, getting a technical for playing defense and all teams are scrimmaging instead of competing so I’m glad it’s falling off a cliff
My NBA watching died when Kobe retired. The last of the true NBA players.
Last of the dying breed... truly the GOAT of that era! Went from Jordan to Kobe to the era of stats and lazy play...
The 2016/17 TV contract helped kill the team building and then the most athletic and greatest skilled generation got injury prone and started sitting out games and breeding lazy effort
Fix the NBA Blueprint:
1. Make it easier/affordable to watch the NBA and stop blocking home games on league pass
2. Bring back hand checking
3. Allow defense to stand in paint for as long as they want
4. No freedom of movement rule
5. Take away the gather step
6. Start calling all travels/carries/moving picks again
7. Give extremely harsh punishments for load managing
8. Harsh punishments for flopping
9. Stop allowing refs to give techs for the silliest things, we’re there to see the players not the refs
10. Allow players to talk trash all they want aka let them be competitive that’s what we want
11. Take politics out of sports, if players/coaches want to be vocal let them do it on their own platform but any political jargon in the NBA press conferences or games shall be severely punished. We’re watching sports to take our mind off politics
12. Don’t allow players to change teams so frequently. We can’t root for a team anymore because the roster changes drastically every year and have no identity.
13. Take out the in season tournament, it’s so complicated and pointless. Make the regular season regular again.
14. Add a 1 on 1 tournament to all star weekend
15. Make the all star game regular east vs west again, make the all star game affect the record of all the players teams
16. Stop advertising so much sports betting
17. Enforce a dress code again. I don’t think families want their kids to see their favorite super star dressed like Zoolander, we want them to set an example for the working man. Suits only and coaches need to wear suits again
18. Make jersey’s look cool again, fire the current jersey designers
19. Go back to the classic court designs from the 2000’s and for the love of god never bring those ugly colorful courts from the in season tournament again!
20. Don’t ever allow players to have so much power that they can force their team to draft their son who obviously isn’t good enough to play in the league. The Bronny situation was insulting to our intelligence as basketball fans
If Adam Silver can execute these rules the NBA has a chance to boost ratings. If not then Adam Silver has to go.
I agree with all 20 but you left out
21. Get rid of play in
@@SuperVeep 22. Get rid of three point line
@Bohem401 I am not against 3 point line. NBA need to stop jacking up astronomical shot attempts for 3's in a game.
@@SuperVeep if you allow the defense to put hands/forearms on the offense when they have the ball or if they’re running off ball then it will be much harder to get wide open 3’s, especially if you start calling travel on a lot of these “gather” step backs. And if you allow the defense to stand in the paint for as long as they want then it will be harder to get wide open layups/dunks. In other words, welcome back mid range shots. Problem solved. The offense takes what the defense gives them.
@@SuperVeep Neither am I, in principle. I just think that the league is too far gone and nothing short of nuclear option will convince people who are willing to trade a open layup(90 percent success) for a kickout to three point line(40 percent if you are lucky)
I barely see 4 minutes as much if a game is on TV. Why? Boring af.
And honestly, it's a waste of talent. Cause... You can't deny there're great players out there, but it's a complete waste if no one likes it. Simple and easy to understand.
David Stern was a fantastic commissioner. Silver honestly needs to be fired at this point. You really can't even call it basketball anymore at this point.
There are more than handful of the wrongs that make the NBA an unwatchable product. The Bronny nepo baby story is the top reason for me personally.
I hate everything about the modern NBA. Everything. Weak beta male players, traveling, soft refs, the 3s, no defence, high scoring games. Constant advertising during the game. ENOUGH!
Data analytics killed the midrange game. Nowadays they're told to not take a long 2 pointer if you can get 3 just moving 5 feet away.
Hellyeah bro! We gave NBA so much money and time an this is what NBA gave us, LeFloppin Contest! We want Magic! Showtime!
Dude. Magic would be a great goddamn commish!
The refs are horrible. They give out technicals like hotcakes. The NBA and its players are involved politically. They supported BLM and anti-Trump. I just wanted to watch basketball and the political propaganda is the last thing I need.
What really annoy's me is the fact that people say today's player's are more athletic and skill full. How ? Well there's no actual explanation to this if you ask anybody but there's the fact that the reason player's look more athletic is because they are allowed to "cheat" the game. What I mean by that is that they can travel and double dribbling and that will make anyone who does a crossover or a step up 3 pointer like James harden does or lebron's 3 to 4 step lay-up's that were once illegal to do in a game. Well of course they are going to look like a million bucks because of all the rules changed to help them on any way possible.
EVERYTHING SUCKS NOW SO SOFT I QUIT LONG TIME AGO WATCHING NBA I DONT SEE A GAME SINCE 2003
The NBA has become unwatchable. Fire Adam Silver and name Charles Barkley as the new Commissioner. Get The White Mamba as his deputy, since they’re the only 2 people I’ve heard coming up with logical solutions.
Spot on. I might add TWO things that I absolutely LOATHE about today's game:
1. THEY ARE ALL FRIENDS!! Ffs!
I remember when there were many rivalries at the same time, teams despised each other and the ones who didn't , at least they were not friends. That made the games more intense, real battles.
Now Lebron is BFFs with rivals in every freaking team, jokes and hugs and smiles and chats with the guys from GS, PHX, BOS, NO, LAC, you name it. And all the rest of the players do the same. I respect so much a guy like JOKIC who just plays and goes home to his wife and kids after the game and doesnt go clubbing and partying with the rivals (remember that picture of Bron and Draymond dancing? Exactly...)
2. Players are OBSESSED WITH SOCIAL MEDIA
They do everything for likes and followers. The things they share and do and say is for views and likes. And when they get criticized, they cry and whine about it
Every player now had a Podcast (pg, Draymond etc) and they hang and chat with rivals, and by doing this, the rivalries disappear.
Also that Lebron barber show , whatever that is, that's another example. They are OBSESSED with being praised and being the CENTER OF ATTENTION, so that explains that they use social media like a junior high school chick.
5:49 Shit! That clip was crazy... 🫨
🤯
Millennial and Gen Z players are the ones who destroyed the NBA.
the 'play-in' didnt help the nba either. in the nfl you need to have a good regular season to make it into the playoffs. it makes the regular season matter. in the nba, 20 out of 32 teams are in. thats ridiculous. multiple teams can make it into the playoffs without even having a winning record. it lowers the value of normal games. they feel like they are just for fun or something. and if they arent important then why should the viewers care about them?
wtf? 20/32?? How about creating a competitive environment instead of gimmicks. They have one of the best products in the world and they can’t take advantage of it. What a joke.
@@Kunfucious577 I honestly do not consider NBA 1 of the best pro sports league in the world anymore. When Kobe R.I.P. was still playing absolutely was 1 of the best in the world.
The game looks like a scrimmage with very talented people.
All Star game should be 2-3 weeks after the Finals.
Why? Its doesn’t matter when the game is if the players don’t play with some kind of effort. I think they shouldn’t make the players do all these press conferences and meet-and-greets during the weekend. But the players need to give more effort.
I'm from the Philippines and I was glued to the 80s and 90s NBA. Today? I watch YT games from the 80s
Adam Silver, LeBron, the owners and media.
The gather travel and carrying along with the handcuffs on the defense is why it’s failing in my opinion
very simple solution:
make threes only count as threes during the last 4 minutes of the game
