Absolute not fun anymore, especially when the players currently got the charisma of a sack of potatoes, and the refs do not even allow for any emotion anymore, so it will not really give the guys a chance to be somewhat relatable. Add all the dumb marketing shit to it that players want to pitch to people. These guys are less nba players but more so influencers. I love what you said here. This is ridiculous.
    I see it as an intertwined 3 part issue.
    1. Silver. What a soft clown.
    2. Players. Soft, half hearted effort. Saying they are more “skilled”. It’s not more skill. It’s more flexibility with the rules. You can do more moves when you’re allowed 5 steps.
    3. Officiating. The refs are horrible. The game is officiated in a horrible way. Call a travel. A carry. A lane violation. Don’t let the player cross the free throw line before the ball hits the rim when shooting free throws. Simply choosing what to call and what to ignore has led us here.
    And all 3 of these are intertwined. I think the easiest thing to do is get a new commish who cares about the game, and not just the money. I understand the money matters, but if no one watches the game the money goes away. Next, call the game straight, by the rules. If refs can’t do that, replace them. And finally, if the players want to complain about having to play a back to back, or continue to flop and cry, get rid of guaranteed contracts.
    Someone once said, it’s tough to get up and train like your life depends on it when you’re sleeping in silk pajamas. That is today’s players. They got it so easy that having to put any effort in seems like the end of the world.
    There’s more details, but this covers a good chunk. Thanks BTM!

So you'll give up 60% chance of a shot going in for 1 point? That's not even mathematically sound. The whole point used to be to get as close to the rim as possible for the best shot percentage. The only reason putting up 50 threes a game is viable today is because the other team is doing the same ridiculous thing. But there are barely any big men even playing in the paint, and no one knows how to post up anymore, and no one can shoot a hook which is literally an unblockable shot. Instead, all we get to see is face up basketball where players turn down open dunks for a potential 3 pointer that has a higher percentage of missing than making.

      Sure, the higher percentage is a good point.
      On the other hand many teams still have a good balance between shooting threes and going to the paint even without any boring three dribblings from a big man isolation post up play. It was always the same and predictable. The most powerful wins this matchup (Shaq!). Wow!
      I follow the NBA since 1994 and haven't enjoyed it more ever since.
      The skillset is the highest that has ever been there. We are seen more handles and moves than ever. Defenders have to respect every single player because everyone can shoot. In the past it was 2/5 or 3/5 players that defenses had to be aware of.
      I appreciate history players and the way the game was played back then, but today - besides the flopping issue - I enjoy it even more.

    • @MikeSchmidt969
      @MikeSchmidt969 19 минут назад

      @@AndenSeefahrer To call post up play boring and predictable vs a 3 point jump shot is kind of silly. A 3 point jump shot is catch and shoot - the exact same thing all the time. Post up play changes depending on the defense and the defender. It's not the same from play to play at all. And when there were great centers on each team, the strongest didn't always win. If you've watched it as long as you have, you should be able to agree with that. Your experience doesn't sound very honest. The skillset of players these days is minimal. It's all face up play, and the defense is weak at best, and yet they still miss simple jump shots from 10-15 feet. They aren't more skilled at all. I'll give you more athletic since they run way more these days than before. The game was slower then. But it's not more skilled. Your claim that "everyone can shoot" is just false. Did you know that 3 point shooting is only 2% better today than it was in the 90's? Look it up. Shooting today is more prevalent, but not more effective. There are more possessions today, not better shooting. So scoring is up because they're taking more shots, not because they're better at making them. Sorry man, those are the numbers talking, not just me.

Let that sink in. 3%. So basically 97 out of 100 people couldn’t be bothered to watch a single second of the game while 1 out of every 6 people watched MJ. Shoot, I enjoy MLG more than the crap they call basketball today. love your channel and I love your take. I couldn’t agree more. I still watch the playoffs and pay attention to who wins the championship. I enjoy sports. But the regular season means nothing to me anymore. The stars don’t seem to care so why should I? I haven’t in a decade almost. I have not gone to a game in person since 08. It’s a shame. There is some fantastic talent in today’s game. Or do we just say today’s “3 point contest”? yeah and whats also messed up is how they basically used the eurostep as a get out of jail card for almost every player now being allowed to just do 3 steps before a layup or a shot, without ever actually performing a euro. It is absolutely crazy right now, and refs simply look on and not call that. If you talk about this, all these clowns come up with "its a gather step" which in 99% of the cases simply ISNT the case, but it just sounds great to just call it that to ignore it as a problem. And to then tell us these players are just more skilled? LOL, they just get away with way more stuff than previous generations of players who had to play against real tough defense, could not move as freely on offense and had coaches who would have ripped them a new one if they ran a fastbreak and instead of finishing it with a almost 100% chance of making a 2pt layup, go to the three point line and miss a goddamn three point shot on a fastbreak. This just happened a couple nights ago... what the f is wrong with these players?

Average 3pt percentage is around 35%, so 2 out of 3 shots are misses... compared to around 50% when you go towards the basket, and even when the interior play leads to nothing, at least there is action while fighting for loose balls, rebound battles etc, compared to somebody parking on the wing, and shooting almost fully uncontested threes and the most that happens is the player falling backwards trying to fish for a call from the refs without actual contact...

    Fix the NBA Blueprint:
    1. Make it easier/affordable to watch the NBA and stop blocking home games on league pass
    2. Bring back hand checking
    3. Allow defense to stand in paint for as long as they want
    4. No freedom of movement rule
    5. Take away the gather step
    6. Start calling all travels/carries/moving picks again
    7. Give extremely harsh punishments for load managing
    8. Harsh punishments for flopping
    9. Stop allowing refs to give techs for the silliest things, we’re there to see the players not the refs
    10. Allow players to talk trash all they want aka let them be competitive that’s what we want
    11. Take politics out of sports, if players/coaches want to be vocal let them do it on their own platform but any political jargon in the NBA press conferences or games shall be severely punished. We’re watching sports to take our mind off politics
    12. Don’t allow players to change teams so frequently. We can’t root for a team anymore because the roster changes drastically every year and have no identity.
    13. Take out the in season tournament, it’s so complicated and pointless. Make the regular season regular again.
    14. Add a 1 on 1 tournament to the all star game
    15. Make the all star game regular east vs west again, make the all star game affect the record of all the players teams
    16. Stop advertising so much sports betting
    17. Enforce a dress code again. I don’t think families want their kids to see their favorite super star dressed like Zoolander, we want them to set an example for the working man. Suits only and coaches need to wear suits again
    18. Make jersey’s look cool again, fire the current jersey designers
    19. Go back to the classic court designs from the 2000’s and for the love of god never bring those ugly colorful courts from the in season tournament again!
    20. Don’t ever allow players to have so much power that they can force their team to draft their son who obviously isn’t good enough to play in the league. The Bronny situation was insulting to our intelligence as basketball fans
    If Adam Silver can execute these rules the NBA has a chance to boost ratings. If not then Adam Silver has to go.

    I'm 100% with you on this! As a fan as a baller who grew up in the 80s and in the 90s, I miss hand-checking. Also, bigs being allowed to man the middle! Plus they used to d up even at all star games! The game meant something back then! And there's also the dunk contest where back in the day the best high flyers in the NBA would compete like Dr. J, Larry Nance, Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, T-Mac, Stevie Franchise (I get it the 2000 dunk contest wasn't in the 90s but you get what I'm saying), and plus all-star games where they actually gave a damn about competing! Speaking of competition, guys wanted to compete against each other instead of forming superteams! Thank God for Giannis and Jokic who showed that even in today's watered-down version of the NBA you can still win a championship! And do away with load management by lowering the boom on those lazy dudes, by fining them millions of dollars! If Michael Jordan played in all 82 games 9 times in a much more physical era! And let's not forget that some people legitimately think that LBJ is the goat! I'm 47 years old and it's the first time in my lifetime where there's a considerable amount of people who think that someone who stacks the deck, never been part of a dynasty, and has a losing record in the NBA finals plus has lost in international competition, yup, that guy they consider him the goat! Which tells me that these unfortunately they don't have a winning mentality! Back in the day guys in the goat convo had winning records in the NBA finals, while sticking it out on one team, instead of guys like LBJ and KD tryna form the Avengers and the Justice League destroying the competitive balance and again I thank God for Giannis and the Joker!

I guarantee you if any of these teams would play the bulls of the 90's the second half score would be 60-30, they would get so tired they would need medical assistance. And dont give me the "they are more athletic" bs, Charles or Shaq or even Karl for that matter, if went up for a dunk and got contested by todays guys, it would be the end of their careers. Everything started to go wrong in when the Hornets, Heat, Magic, and Timberwolves were added to the NBA. That meant that there were 4 full rosters of players in the league that were not good enough to make the league in years prior. In order to make them viable rules had to be altered. When you introduce players of a lesser ability into a competitive league everybody else performs better; for example no one in MLB has batted .400 in the last 80+ years, but before that the feat was accomplished a few times a decade. When MLB broke the color barrier the players that didn't belong got replaced by real major leaguers and batting .400 became exponentially more difficult. The NBA is hustling backwards, by introducing (currently 7) full teams worth of talent into the ecosystem everybody else looks better than they would otherwise. Compound that with changing the rules to accommodate the weaker players, and everyone else looks better yet.

    • @JonSmith-hk1bq
      @JonSmith-hk1bq 14 часов назад

      I think its safe to say that the talent pool has long since recovered from expansion in the 1980s. It's not a talent problem. Europe alone has more than provided for ample talent to fill the expansion teams. If anything, it's a health problem as players bodies are breaking down due to the way the game is played now.
      For that matter, the number of MLB players has almost doubled since Jackie Robinson, black players have never accounted for more than 20% of the league, and all sorts of other records have fallen since then. Not to mention the talent influx was rather disproportionately in favor of hitting, not pitching.

    • @williamking7941
      @williamking7941 12 часов назад

      @JonSmith-hk1bq That less than 20% in MLB essentially ended .400. Hitters also field, and pitchers have always made up less than 1/3 of the league.Changing the rules to accommodate the leagues weakest players is what's causing the issues of the day.

    • @JonSmith-hk1bq
      @JonSmith-hk1bq 6 часов назад

      @@williamking7941 Again, batting average is only one aspect of baseball, one that was falling well before integration. Other aspects of the game have reached new highs. And while pitching may only make up about 1/3 of the players, it certainly accounts for the lion's share of hitting futility. And for whatever reason, there have simply never been that many black pitchers in MLB. Integration did much more to give MLB offenses the advantage.

    the 'play-in' didnt help the nba either. in the nfl you need to have a good regular season to make it into the playoffs. it makes the regular season matter. in the nba, 20 out of 32 teams are in. thats ridiculous. multiple teams can make it into the playoffs without even having a winning record. it lowers the value of normal games. they feel like they are just for fun or something. and if they arent important then why should the viewers care about them?

    This is the equivalent of "work smarter, not harder". This generation is raised thinking that just because the job is done quickly and efficiently, it's done correctly... except this approach disregards the craftsmanship and meticulous care that focuses on the minutiae and instead focuses on the end goal. It's more efficient to shoot threes, but the craft of basketball is lost due to the focus of high percentage shots and scoring.

    Totally agree! The NBA keeps changing, but many parts of the 80s and 90s were undeniably superior. Here’s what needs to happen, and it needs to happen now:
    1. Push Back the Three-Point Line
    It’s infuriating that nearly everyone can sink a three like it’s a free throw. Move the line further out. Stop rewarding mediocre long-range shots that anyone can make. If you want three points, you should have to work for it.
    2. Ban Zone Defenses
    Zone is for amateurs who can’t handle real defense. Man-to-man challenges players to step up and guard their matchup without hiding behind a lazy scheme. Get rid of zone defenses entirely. The NBA should showcase elite, in-your-face defense-not timid formations better suited to high school teams.
    3. Enforce Traveling Again
    The NBA’s so-called “gather” steps and pivot foot loopholes are a disgrace. Traveling is traveling, end of story. No more extra steps or bizarre rule interpretations that let stars break the most basic rule in basketball. Referees need to call it every single time.

    i was just put in charge, and here are my first steps:
    - fire adam silver, hire magic johnson and larry bird as co-commissioners. (thanks for the idea sean!)
    - eliminate guaranteed contracts, for players AND coaches. incentives, whatever.
    - implement an oversight board for referees. blatantly missed calls/non-calls, stupid techs, etc get penalized, increasing with each incident. and extra super-duper penalty for when they affect game outcomes. this includes correctly enforcing rules like traveling, palming, offensive fouls, moving picks, etc.
    - implement an oversight board for stat keepers. make sure stats are being accurately recorded according to the applicable rules.
    - rule changes:
    - no more defensive 3 seconds
    - reinstate hand-checking
    - unlimited successful challenges, with penalties for frivolous usage (1st - tech, 2nd - 2 shots and the ball, 3rd - turn over your first born male child, ...). refs decide/vote on what is frivolous, with regard to 3rd item above.
    - teams limited to X number of made 3 pointers per game (or quarter?). after that, they only count for 2. [i saw this somewhere, sorry to whoever i got it from, i forget or i'd give credit]
    - eliminate the corner 3
    - anybody over 7' must attempt at least as many shots in the paint as from beyond the arc. penalty is shaq and kg get to pummel your ass.

    Dear Sean, you'r spot on. Silver degenerated into a mere product manager. Looking to pay max contracts to saturated players and top dollar to investors. It is about a product and not about a sport anymore. There is no more ferocity to the game and no visible competition at any cost. Instead players seem to have settled on a truce. Why would superstars risk getting hurt when they earn 9 figures on a contract, sneaker deal and commercials anyway? There is still hope though: Euroleague.
    Sidenote: You f... love the game. You call it "game" and "sport" instead of "product" like so many others.

    I totally agree at 100% with you man! And it's lovely to see and feel how much you love this game bro! I got a double different point of view about the nowadays NBA, as I was raised watching this game 30 years ago, and plus I'm European. I feel lucky to have seen one of the best NBA age like the '90s, and I can't blame a 20 years old boy who like the current NBA. But at my age I can compare the old-school game with this one and objectively it has worsened in every respect. Since Silver came up: the salary cap has increased (more opportunity to build up super teams), players earn more, wich means more likely to see spoiled and listless young players, no defense at all, at least till the PO (there are great defender in NBA, but there's a lack of team defense mentality), tons of 3 point, no midrange shots and the refereeing method exclusively defends the attacker to the detriment of the defender. I don't even consider the ASG, because for years it has become the maximum expression of all this. I'm European, I always watched the NBA game since I was 15, but recently I started to watch more the Euroleague, and boy... IS MUCH BETTER! Is there the same athletic quality? Of course not . Is there the same individual technical level? No. But there's something that in NBA is disappearing... INTENSITY, DEFENSE PHYSICALITY and FEWER MATCHES (people don't give a s**t to watch 82 games or RS since the most of those are pure trash). I'm not here to provide a solution for all these problems, but I'm sure that changes (for better) should start from these points

We also had a magazine with a few plays we could see if we turned the pages very fast, like an old comic. That's when I was in love with this game, that I was barely able toe to see here in Switzerland. There's not much to see nowadays. Travels not called, foul baiting, no post play... The NBA being an inheritance of tall but untalented NBA sons has also contributed to the decline in my opinion. For every Steph Curry or Klay Thompson, there are 100 Bronny James. By today's approach to the NBA draft and recruiting, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Bird would have never gotten the opportunity to be seen. The NBA needs to draft the best talent and young men who want to play, not young men with this connection and from that background....bring the best talent to the league.

    The problem is even beyond the NBA, it is also on FIBA and affects so many rec leagues. When FIBA implemented the zero step that opened a pletora of missed travel calls, because every ref has a criteria and sometimes gets so ridiculous. In my last rec league game of this year we played a team that had guys in their early 20s (we are an almost 40s guys team) and I swear, a player from the opposite team did a lot of extra steps a lot of times, just like B.dot Armstrong when he mocked Harden in a celebrity game, and none of those was called a travel even when that player gather the ball with two hands and took 4 or 5 steps after that. Basketball today is unplayable because all the rule changes lead to different interpetations that could be totally opposite one from another.
