    I just received my GE Profile Top Loader Washer. It has an Impeller instead of the traditional agitator. I grew up using the old ringer washer with agitators to the traditional agitators. I loved the agitators because they really cleaned my clothing, and I stuck with them over the years....I started using the Ringer Style Washers in 1954. I am 74. I have done a lot of washing over the years. The two brands that I have stayed with are Hot Point and GE...All Top Loading Washers.
    A couple of weeks ago, my old GE Profile Top Loader Washer of 17 Years had to be replaced. I decided to get another GE Profile Top Loading Washer. I had a choice this time, Traditional Agitator or an Impeller. Wow! an Impeller. I therefore chose the newer technology washer.
    I received the washer on 17 October 2022. I immediately put a load of clothing into the washer to see how it performed. I am happy to report, it performed wonderfully. It is quiet, and the results were great. Today the 19 October 2022, I am washing heavier loads. Two quilts ... They came out wonderfully. I had to re-balance the quilts because they were really heavy once they got wet, and then when the spinning cycle engaged, It wasn't doing a great job. My bad, It has a feature called the "Tangle Control". I should have engaged this feature, and perhaps it would have done the balancing for me. Next time I will definitely use it. I have done three loads today. Each load, was great. I am happy to say, I am pleased with the Impeller. I hope it lasts 17 years, like my previous GE Profile Washer did. By the way, my old GE Profile Dryer, is still doing fine. I did not replace it. The Dryers tend to outlast the washers.

      The difference between the TC5000 and the commercial top loaders is that the commercials have a coin meter box and the home unit has a control panel with knobs and buttons.

      @5610winston idk, anymore, I find something I like and go with it.
      Solely because there are plenty of people replacing parts in these that cost the price of a regular machine.
      Also, I want a 5 plus cu ft washer and a 7.4 min dryer, and that tends to fet expensive in speed queen.
      However, the price, I was referring to the latter of the 2 brands you originally mentioned.
      With those units in particular, I was pricing front loaders and even used and looking beat, they go for well over a grand for anything that isn't the smallest size. I'm not buying anything under 5 cu ft for a washer. Been there dome that regret it everytime.

    I have to choose a bulky setting just to wash a small load of laundry.
    In the beginning it would just error once in a while, got worst over the years.

    Hey Drew there are many people in forums and videos saying that the new washing machine agitators are not real agitators like the ones the old washing machines had but rather are just elongated tall impellers pulsators made look like agitators, can you comment on this please? Thanks for your reply. Cheers

    • @marksappliance
      @marksappliance  Год назад +12

      Hey hippo potamus. Thanks for the question. It is both true and false, and I'll try to provide a clear answer. It really all has to do with the fact there are water consumption requirements in today's world enforced by the government. Which is why on any "Normal" cycle, it will not let you Deep Fill the machine, if your machine has that feature. This is why we always recommend to NOT use the Normal cycle when washing your clothes. Almost every brand has a different type of agitator these days. You are correct in saying that some model agitators are just tall impellers, because if you look at the direct drive of these models, they are the exact same whether they have an impeller or agitator. You see this a lot in Samsung or LG. But so many brands are different. The Speed Queen TR series has an agitator that doesn't even move, but instead the wash barrel is what moves. But, does this mean it's not getting a good wash? No, because it is a good machine, just designed differently. However, their TC (Classic series) is the most like an "old-school" agitator, where it rotates independent of the barrel, and sits on top of the direct drive transmission to make it one piece. There are other models out there that do the same as this. A Maytag MVW6230RHW and MVWP575 are also closer to old-school agitators, but they make a full-rotation forward and backward, as compared to old models that just did 90-180 degree rotations. There are a few GE's out there (the one in this video), that also move like the Maytags and has a full-metal transmission like an old-school commercial unit. If you're looking for a inexpensive unit, an Amana NTW4516FW is an old-school machine. Porcelain tub, dog ear agitator.
      In short, no washers on the market today are made exactly like the old-school models with the 90-degree or 180-degree rotation. Most agitators today will make a full rotation back and forth with the barrel moving in counteraction, because with today's governmental requirements on water consumption, brands had to adjust to getting clothes clean with less water. However, you can get similar results by using the Deep Fill option on your washer, and not using "Normal" cycle. Stick with trusted brands like Maytag, Whirlpool, Speed Queen. GE Profile has a great series out as well. Impellers are designed to use less water, which makes it a gentler wash, but it is a longer wash cycle. I have never had one personally, but people either love them or hate them. My advice would be stick to what you know, but always purchase a washer with a Deep Fill option. I hope this helps!

      Impellers are not as powerful at taking and cleaning full loads like actual straight vane agitators or two piece dual action agitators will with no issue. So on some of the new whirlpool made junk, they stuck a stick on the middle of the impeller to trick people into thinking it washes like a older traditional machine. They are extremely weak, and takes far too long to turn a load over with these impellers if they had better motors I’m sure it would be better.

  • @5610winston
    @5610winston 2 года назад +4

    0:28 That is not a true agitator. It is an impeller with a screw that keeps the impeller from working as well as it would without the screw. While it looks superficially like a traditional agitator, it will never get your clothes as clean as an old-school coin-laundry-style top loader, home versions of which are available from Maytag and Speed Queen.
    The only true agitator machines still available are the Speed Queen TC5003 (don't let them sell you the TR-series machine) and the Maytag COMMERCIAL MVWP575 if you can find it (and that is a totally different machine from any that carry the "COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY" label). The Speed Queen will probably last longer due to the all-metal transmission and one-piece agitator. Some think the Maytag has an edge in cleaning.

    • @JazzDelMar
      @JazzDelMar 2 года назад +4

      ABSOLUTLY AGREE WITH YOU! The impeller (or "pulse" models) are inferior to traditional agitators which circulate your laundry loads through more water. This salesman is potentially misleading his customers with all the nonsense of agitators "pulling" or snagging your clothes. Notice that other washer dealer web sites are using the same language this year in trying to promote the inferior impeller machines. No "modern" impeller machines can beat a traditional agitator and a tub filled with the proper water level. These so-called agitators in this video is NOT a true traditional agitator either. This is just smoke and mirrors, and is not helpful to the potential customer.

It is true agitators can be aggressive on clothing, especially if you are not careful with how you load it. I am confused by your comment saying this is not a true agitator machine. I believe you're referring to the two-in-one Whirlpool model. The GE Profile stacks up against the best agitator models, including the MVWP575 Maytag that Winston referred to in the beginning. That MVWP575 model has its downfalls, too, in the fact that it's only a 3.8 cu. ft. tub. It cycles just like any other agitator model on the market, just has commercial quality and 5-year parts and labor manufacturer warranty. However, you can find the same quality with a bigger tub in the MVW6230RHW model. This GE Profile is great, but at much less of a cost than either of those.

    My brand new Maytag top load HE washer is a complete lemon. when i wash bedding it makes these horrible banging noises, requires me to babysit the machine while it refills the basket TEN TIMES or more trying to "rebalance." using way more water than an old school washer. when i wash clothes they leave soil residue in the creases of the clothes. I have used this washer for over a year and every single time i try to wash a cotton blanket or cotton comforter it makes these horrible banging noises and even after repositioning the items multiples times it still fails to balance EVERY TIME. and when the machine tells me it's done the blankets are still soaking wet and smell like sweaty soiled clothes because it never gets properly agitated or spun/drained. The machine tells me it's done but the clothes smell like sweat and dead skin and are dripping wet, obvious signs of a deficient washer. can't clean and can't spin dry. so now i'm drying a soaking wet blanket for over THREE HOURS in the dryer that smells like dirty clothes because the washer told me it is "done" because it simply stops attempting to spin after multiple attempts. I cannot wait for a class action lawsuit against Maytag top loader HE washers, they are the worst in the world. I will never buy anything Maytag as long as I live and will tell everyone I talk to about how bad Maytag is. NEVER MAYTAG, THE WORST BRAND OF WASHING MACHINE EVER MADE. I almost went with Samsung! At the moment of deciding, something told me to stick with the proven brand. I went with the GE Profile. I am glad that I did. I chose the impeller instead of the agitator. I am single and my loads tend to be small. The results have been great. However, the couple of larger loads, comforters, bed sheets, quilts, and bath sheet towels, the Agitator performs better than the Impeller. The problem I have experienced with the Impeller is balancing the larger loads. I have had to reposition or rebalance the heavier loads.
      To be honest, when I used the washer with the Agitator, I have had to untangle sheets that got tightly twisted around the agitator, as well. This would always stop the washer.
      After using my New GE 5.4 Cu, Profile Top Loader Washer with Impeller, vs. with an Agitator, I would recommend the Agitator for a household with an active growing family. You can wash larger loads and be assured that they get washed well.
