It's finally here guys! An extensive video about merging! OkiSubies is letting the cat out of the bag and giving you guys an exclusive insight into our GC8 merging project Give us some feedback on how you like this step by step guide and if you want to see more content like this!👇🏼
Thank you for watching! We wanted to go more into detail but we knew it would already be so long of a video lol. Maybe we will breakdown each section of the merge in separate videos🙂👍🏻
What are those modules above the steering column? I recently installed a radio and sti genome gauge in my 97 sti and now my headlights and dash backlights dont work. All the other lights work fine. I think its the Illumination control module but I've had a hard time finding it since its rhd.
Hey, I'm almost done with the merge. I'm just left with one wire from the 04 WRX ECM and one wire from a 3 pin plug from the RS. 1. 04 WRX ECM wire ( E: B84 - 23p ) RL colored wire. ("Internal" pressure solenoid valve). Which to my understanding, the 01 Impreza RS (Gm6/Gc8) doesn't have?... Can I assume that I could leave this cut then? 2. And then the 3pin plug I came across, Is from the (01 RS). From the (Atmospheric Pressure Sensor) I believe, bolted beside the strut tower on the ABS bracket. I'm able to wire 2 of the wires from it, but still left with one. Originally connected to ( C: B136 29p ) RW colored wire from the 01 RS ECM. Should I just delete this plug? I live in Canada AB if that information helps. or if I do want to make this sensor work, is it possible to make it work at all with this merge? can't find anything about if from forums and groups and such. Doesn't the MAF sensor do the same job which in my head I could just delete this then?... I really learned so much these past few months on reading diagrams, wiring and such. and you guys's channel is one of my best guides. Thank you 🙌🙌🔥🔥 You guys are the best.
@@Ariz04 you sure can! You would wire it the same way but the ground and power would go to the fuel pump module instead. Then the fuel pump module will have two wires to the fuel pump. Then there is also two wires from the ecu to the fuel pump module. Thanks for watching!
amazing video guys. thank for sharing this huge job. I'm planning to do a V8 GDB STI Ej207 swap into my BF5 Legacy but i cant find a lot information about it and les the jdm Gdb service manual. do you know any site way to get one. Thank in advance. Gretting from Chile
Are there any changes need for the drive shaft, steering rack, or anything else? Basically you need the ecu, full harness and the steering pump with the engine from the donor car.
@@OkiSubies absolutely, and even a wiring idiot such as myself can pull off the wiring job. AI Performance sells a kit that comes with great instructions. I’ve wired 3 of my own cars and a couple of cars for friends.
I’m swapping a v8 spec-c ej207 into a JDM 2001 SF5 with a built 4EAT. I have an ECU out of a JDM 2002 SG5 with AVCS, along with its full harness. To what extent will I need to merge that with the SF5 harness, or should I just swap the SG5 harness over entirely? I’m also considering a Syvecs ECU for more control.
The process would be very similar as the video but there are a couple extra wires that split into the ECU like TPS. I wouldn’t recommend installing the full harness because everything else would be different (doors, dashboard, cluster) the AT SG5 is also DBW and we have yet to find definitions for ECUflash so tuning can be difficult. Definitely more of a complicated swap you are attacking
@@OkiSubies indeed it’s not simple, but the challenge is part of the fun. The SF5 and the EJ207 are both drive by cable. I might just go with the Syvecs and wire in the AVCS capability to the existing SF5 harness.
We change the pump simply because it’s an upgrade. The pumps from the earlier model Subarus have the reservoir sitting on top of the pump and leak very often. The GD pump is isolated and the reservoir sits off to the side. The GD pump can also be purchased new from autozone so we swap it for ease of replacement once the car goes to America.
The process is the same so there shouldn’t be any issues. The obd2 port that will be added just needs a spot. We usually just have it hanging under the dash so it is easily accessible
No the ek20k ecu is no longer used. The whole point of the merge is to get the ej207 ecu inside the GC8🙂 States never got the EJ207 but all merges use the same concept though🤙🏼
Would this process work with a left hand drive gd harness merging into a right hand drive gc? This video gave me confidence to atleast line them up ontop of each other tomorrow and compare.
The concept is the same but the layout of the ECU is just different. If the lengths work and everything seems good when you lay them on top each other then the rest will be practically the same. Here are some links that help me learn years ago. They are LHD applications and everything we do is RHD so if I was able to apply it you should be able to also🙂. www.rs25.com/threads/brydon-teaches-you-to-merge-a-harness.141937/ www.rs25.com/threads/1999-2001-rs-swap-to-wrx-or-sti-help-me-add-notes.82820/
@@OkiSubies Thank you for the links. It looks like I have to lengthen the maf portion of the harness in order to make it work. Do you by chance have an ecu pinout for a ver4 wrx sti. I am finding lots of expired links or forums with people questioning posted pinouts. Id rather have extras to double or even triple check. Thank you.,
Did you change the ECU? There is nothing done in a manual swap that would effect both fuel or spark unless you changed the ecu and maybe it was bad or the wrong one.
For the love of god please tell me you only twisted the various wires together for demonstration purposes to show a connection. There is some quality work on the island but for whoever buys that car next, I hope the harness is merged properly.
Haha I actually said in the video that I am only temporarily twisting them and that all exposed wires must be addressed. Everything is crimped and shrink wrapped.

As soon as I heard they gonna send it down to the Wire Dept, I knew what was gonna follow. This is a good running joke, love it!
A great explanation. I think when the time comes I might just play it safe and send you my GC8 harness and get you guys to do the merge for me.

That is correct, for the drivetrain there is no difference at all and the newer setup will bolt right up.
I'm so glad my cars have all been GD, the most wiring was just to add avcs. Wiring is not my strength.
GD is a great platform! Really cool Subaru kept the wiring mostly the same for usdm wrx and JDM STI. Was it worth the swap to go JDM AVCS?

The GD pump is isolated and the reservoir sits off to the side. The GD pump can also be purchased new from autozone so we swap it for ease of replacement once the car goes to America.

Would getting the bulk harness from the sf5 sti work in a US left hand drive do the same job instead of a merge?
Unfortunately not. The harnesses are different
