I like the idea that TOAA looks different to different people. It takes the form of what the character wants it to look like in order to not break their minds. It also gives a look into the characters' psyche, as you literally get a physical manifestation of what they think a perfect, all-powerful being should look like.

I’m always conflicted on God characters. I think it can be really interesting but also can come across as really boring and feel like takes away from the mystery of a universe if that makes sense
the biggest problem with creating a god character is you that you take the idea that should never be capable of understanding and give it form, it requires you to set some sort of limit for the power, even if it is a limit not visually shown(the imagination of the creator of said character) the higher the limit or the more they break the mold the better they are because they are slightly closer to what a god could be compared to the all knowing but benevolent personality most god characters have
@@The_Archer-he2ft I think god of as like a blind person hearing a movie, They can hear the movie but each person will visualize it their head differently. If were to write a story, each character would see god in a different form depending their view. Like Batman would see god as his dead parents, while Blackcat would see god as a bride-taking judge, due to her ability to distort chance.
I've always enjoyed the concept of an in-universe author-god. That is, characters being able to speak with their creator without breaking the fourth wall. I enjoy the idea because what they'd quickly realize is that their god's decisions aren't fuelled by morality, but by a desire to craft a compelling narrative. In a comic by Neil Gaiman, Reed Richards realizes this. When the Thing asks if figuring this out will help him turn Ben back into a man, Reed says that it's absolutely within their power to do so, but that no solution can ever be permanent. This is because Ben will always be more compelling as a monster then he is as a man.
@@pumpkinpartysystem Too many questions, it throws me off. It's like you're obviously trying to force a certain message into me, and I don't like it. But that aside, that's an interesting idea especially as a fictional story
The idea that the One Above All is the most powerful Marvel character is a common misconception, since the true most powerful Marvel character is Big Wheel.
I haven’t completely read the Immortal Hulk comics, but seeing TOAA’s line at 6:29 is really intriguing as a Christian. That’s because it mirrors the book of Job near its end, where God answers to Job’s question of “why?” by asking him that same question of “Where were you when I laid these foundations?” The way I see it, God creates good situations and permits bad ones, and they all have a purpose in our lives, even if we never understand said purpose. Even if you’re not a believer in any way, I think reading a synopsis of Job will make you appreciate the story of Immortal Hulk and its portrayal of TOAA just a little bit more.
Do you ever get the feeling god is telling Job “who are you to question me?” rather than explaining it to him? Would an explanation not be possible even for god? Would god giving an actual explanation that could be passed down to all humanity have been a bad thing? Is gods goal to get the most souls in heaven? Does he have a goal?
@@samuelfraley8737the respond and goal are quite simple Love one and others like you should love yourself as God has loved you, the sol purpose of joy He did comunicate but he still left free will on us, you can follow the advice or reject it, making us humans Would our lives still matered if God just speak to all the earth and left no room for doubt Wouldn't that turn us into robots that just follow a comand The truth shall free you
@@hugoflores1093 so you admit that if proof was given then our free will would be affected? Then that means “free will” by your own definition could only exist in complete ignorance. But that’s beside the point. God has(according to the Bible) revealed himself to many throughout the years and at no point are we lead to believe that that took away their free will to sin and reject god. Also god wants us to trust him and obey even relying on faith in times we doubt his commands. And I am to believe he doesn’t want robots? Now this would be a more believable position if mainstream Christianity believed in universalism but y’all don’t. If the world and all the “evil” we perceive and experience were there to change everyone in the exact way they need so that by the time each of us dies we are all saved. That is what a tri-omni god could do. But mainstream Christianity hangs onto ideas of retribution and revenge. Relishing in the suffering of the damned(at least some). This is so base and human I cannot accept that a higher being would be this way. Complete forgiveness is only logical and in fact preeminent in the mindset that free will is an illusion. Once you can accept it as an illusion you will realize that everyone is blameless for their vices and creditless for their virtues. And that the organization of the universe(s?) could be a symphony of infinite complexity to form all sentient life into consciousnesses that can exist in the next life with god. But most Christians wouldn’t even understand what I’m saying.

reminds me a lot of how in the half life series, g-man (nice fella in a business suit, probably behind everything in the entire series) has ‘employers’
if that is so, then who created The One Above All? creation exists because we are in it. who created the creator? some say the entity just exists, which expects you to stop asking and stop thinking.
@@BobRooney290 That question is only really relevant if you are thinking of the 4 dimension we are working in. Assuming you are able to step outside of time and space, then this question becomes easy to answer. He just exist, because as an entity outside of space and time, he is everywhere, and everywhen. He is outside of time itself, and thus is not limited to it, thus not needing a beginning or end.

I interpret the TOAA as a representation of the writers and artists at marvel like Stan lee and jack Kirby. I think the one above all is really cool bc he usually makes other people do stuff or fix their own mistakes like that one time where thanos absorbed him and took his powers (yes this did happen tho I’m not sure if it’s cannon anymore) and fucked up the multiverse (or something along those lines my memory is ass) and it makes him a lot more interesting instead of if he himself just intervened at least to me it makes him more of this laid back kinda god who wants people to discover their mistakes or give them some advice but don’t directly give them the answer to everything Like when he talked to Peter. So for these reasons I find the one above all to be a really interesting character IMO.
This is kinda ridiculous, this would mean that a character who does nothing, is a fine character because they don't let you draw a conclusion about him

I firmly believe the Jack Kirby depiction is literal, The One Above All is just the writers and artists who make the stories. Because of course the writers need to write bad things, there's an excellent quote I cannot remember the origin of, but it was something like "If everyone's happy, then there's no more story". So the creators make good forces, and evil forces, and push them together. To tell stories. Which should also leave The One Above All to only ever appear when they've truly written themselves into a corner, have no other ideas, no other options, nothing that'll meet the deadline, other than a literal self-insert to fix it, like Jack Kirby (honouring him, really Mark Waid for that specific issue) bringing The Thing back to life, not through a crazy plot or interesting magic or science or adventure, but through literally drawing him back into the story. Same with boosting Peter Parkers spirits, what on earth could cheer him up when Aunt May is possibly about to die, it's too much for just an MJ chat or some plot driven revelation, so the writer themself drops in to perk him up, but doesn't even answer the question, leaves too early. The One Above All would be great, if they just leave it at that level
Great work as always, man. I'd never read that Fantastic Story, but it sounds like a pretty damn good read. Also, i remember reading "The Book Of Peter" story during the Back In Black-era of Spider-Man; and finding it sadly heartwarming. That scene where he shows Peter all the people he's saved on the beach was pretty emotional for me. Maybe it was the painted-looking art style, or the text epilogue that (Unfourtanetly) gives a false prediction of Peter and MJs future together. I am agnostic, but the idea of afterlife being a picturesque beach is a really nice thought.

I don't think Jack Kirby thought of himself as God though. But a lot of comic book creators were Jewish and imparted their religious beliefs of a Supreme being God creator of everything and everyone.

This is sort of like how I interpret my equivalent of this character in my work. The one above all is just me, the writer. That's how it works. And I think that's a really interesting way to do it, just be honest and raw about it. Because of course I'm the god of my work, I created it, I created everyone in it. Did they deserve what I did to them? No, not really. But the concept of "deserving" it is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the story it exists to tell, and maybe that makes me an evil god, as far as evil can be considered a concept in itself in a world that exists solely to tell a story, but it's just the way things are. I'm so far above my works I don't even see them as real people, they're just characters in a story, and their pleas and suffering are irrelevant to my writing them. That concept is terrifying, and that's exactly the point. Fiction is horrific and fascinating.
It's funny that Marvel invests in TOAA because to me it seems like Marvel has even retconned this all powerful being by way of creating a main character who I saw in a premonition that even though this character isn't in the cosmology hierarchy, this character being a main Marvel character has grown so popular that she has apeared outside the Marvel, DC, Image, all universes, even made the biggest impact on the gaming universe! In 1981 when I picked up Avengers just to have a comic to keep myself entertained, I saw this character as a villian! It started to get late, so I turned in for the night, had a dream that this character will join a hero team, then become a iconic hreo. I woke from that dream, then as I looked around my room, I experienced a devine premonition that this character wuld be more important and sought after than all the GODs of DC, Marvel and all comics. Next thing I remember was this character joined the X-MEN and since has grown in popularity so much she's appeared as a guest cameo in KOF,SFV, mugen and all other games even before any other comics character including the cosmology beings which is unheard of and never was done in the industry of comics! According to DC, none of their characters would ever appear in the competing company because of pettiness and threats of lawsuits. Not even their hihgest GODs The Preasence, TOAA or any of the big figures dared to go outside their fictional worlds unless it was a crossover, and even so they kept it very limited to comics, until last month. When I saw Rogue come into many fictional media including games outside of Marvel, I went to search battle vs. wiki and other power scaling wikis and found out our imagination can help us explore infinite possibilities of GODs even more powerful than what we know in the comics! now understand what the tier levels are. There are outer planes that make the omniverse look sub quantum small then when a GOD is immeasurable, we call it boundless meaning all great in power and influence and popularity! Never before has a main comics charracter reached that status, until Rogue defeated many fighters from outside of Marvel! Not even a hierarchy being has shown up in any of these mugen games yet, Rogue broke all the barriers. She made Marvel look strong by a good showing and winning far more matches than losing! I had that premonition, but even that didn't show me that Rogue would become that great!TOAA is supposed to be the master and creator of Marvel, Spider-Man is Marvel's flagship hero, but what Rogue has done even surpassed DC's most iconic hreoes! Just recently many other members of the X-MEN are now poping up in these games and media following Rogue's example, then I pointed it out that the cosmology beings should be the first to visit these outer realms before any mainstream heroes and villians, so it is unheard of that one of the min board characters would make a omniversal impact before their hierarchy GODs Rogue changed that forever, now from the beginning, before her x-men days, I was a Rogue fan, but if I'd know it would get this far Id wanted to work with Marvel to make her the primary mickey mouse figure to create a theme park named Marvel World! If only I knew, I had that premonition, but I really didn't think it could happen, so Rogue has in a way become her very own TOAA! After seeing my favorite x-men make this impact that now changes power scaling forever,I requested somebody start making game mods of cosmic beings! Last week they put the Living Tribunal against the Anti-Monitor and the Living Tribunal lost, ROgue won her first match outside of Marvel making TOAA proud, then Tribunal messes it up! Now what Rogue is doing by making big waves through these outer worlds not even pre-retcon Beyonder has ventured outside of the Marvel multiverse and now the only reason Anti-Monitor has is because Rogue had already broken the source walls and usurp access to all astral regulators, changed and made her impact then DC decided to send in one of their hierarchy beings first befoer any of their heroes come in which tells me Rogue even set the trend for all of DC's characters to finally step outside the status quo of comics and try to make some kind of impact although none of them were the first to venture out of their bubble. Rogue being the first to do this even before TOAA and her cosmology is why I advocate for her so much, she isn't even considered omega level mutant and yet now she's more powerful in popularity the TOAA itself making her boundless to me! The very day she defeated one of the KOF fighters I said this is one step for Rogue, one giant leap for Marvel and mutantkind!
the hulk having powers from what basically amounts to a god makes his extreme powers make a lot more sense it's comic book stuff so I don't think about it too much but it is weird that a human mutated by human things could rise to the level of power hulk is capable of
The problem with having an 'all-powerful god' character in stories is they must be purely neutral observers of the universe because any value system they hold would necessarily be immediately enacted upon reality. In simpler terms, a 'good' or 'evil' deity wouldn't allow for good stories since suffering/joy would not be allowed to exist. Other more complex value systems are possible but if you allow these systems to be explained in-universe you must forever make sure every story you write must fit with such a system and that is limiting to good stories. Thus, the only way such a deity character could work that I can think of would be for it to be unexplained for the most part and an impartial observer in most, if not all, situations.
But there is an all powerful God who is all good and allows for suffering already. It’s the real God, the God of the Bible. We suffer because we chose to when we decided to be be our own gods instead of following Him. God is love and in order to love you must be free to love. That is why God does not force you to love Him but wants to convince you to and do it out of your free will. Also why do you think that a good God would not allow suffering? In this fallen state of ours suffering now a guaranteed feature of life. Christ who is God Himself came here to suffer and die as it was foretold in the book of Isiah and played out in the New Testament. No secular person I knew would ever call Jesus bad or evil, in fact they all agreed that Christ is good and blameless. So if God while in human form had to undergo suffering why do we think we shouldn’t? I say this, because it seems to me you believe suffering is greatest evil, but suffering is not automatically evil or at least the greatest evil. In fact, it is quite often used for good. Exercise is suffering, discipline is suffering, and in fact the very heroes shown in Marvel and DC are so impactful not just because of their virtues but the suffering they undertake to stand in those virtues. I doubt they would be as well liked as they are if they did not have trails and tribulations to overcome as virtues would not mean much without the Will to suffer for them. Next you make the assumption that this deity must be impartial for it to work (deism). There’s a problem I have with that, if that deity cannot or does not love or is good, why would they create? This all powerful deity who is completely self sufficient (I assume) why would they create anything that could potentially muck about and even destroy the universe the deity creates. Why run the risk of creating anything at all? I never heard an artist or engineer who was impartial to their work or created dispassionately.
Yeah, but at the same time, at least in most stories, the "good" guys always prevail, even if by suffering. So this "God" is a little more inclined to good than evil.
@@gannielukks1811 The inclination of the god in question should be irrelevant to what happens unless they're the sort that gets directly and often involved, because otherwise they're not doing it themselves but "Realising the will of _insert god_ "

There have been hints that there is something or someone above the one above all. At one time Thanos usedsomething (cosmic regulator I think) to absorb the one above all. It is something that Marvel has laid some ground work for, even if they decide to never go anywhere with it.
Back in the Defenders mini, there was a conclusion make about The One Above All as the greatest power they could ever reach. They are also defined as where the world of creation begins. The implications being, obviously, that the creators beyond the creator are their writers and artists. But theres also a metaphor on top of that metaphor, that of the limits of our perception. We can truly know god, we cant meet them face to face. There will always be a mistery there that we can interpret however we want to. So thats the something or someone above the one above. The god we cant imagine. So naturally, theres no way to go anywhere with it,
Dude just wanna say, your videos are fantastic. Found your channel a couple months ago and you’ve become one of the youtubers I just sit and get anticipated for the next video. Please keep up the great work bro. Much love.
I really wish that they didn't just compile the one above all into just another god stand-in. It would be better if they kept it as a kind of personification of a concept. So the one above all would be something like the nucleus of all creativity given form (somewhat eldritch in nature). instead of just God-but-not-God. That way the one above all is also the one within all in some aspect and carries a much better message of how all reality, comics, stories, etc. have power that is compiled, shared and dispersed among everyone using creativity/the power of The One Above All.
In Ewings works (the guy who wrote Inmortal Hulk) theres this clear intention of making The One Above All to also be the one within all. He said as much the very first time he wrote them. "I see though many eyes. I build with many hands. They are themselves, but they are also me". The One Below All works with the same logic. So this god stand-in is clearly also mean to be a metaphor for all of us. Our ability to love and hate, ressent or forgive. To create and destroy. So its not exactly what you said, but it also kinda is.
Ever since I learned of the double slit experiment and its philosophical implications, I've come to respect Near-Death-Experiencers as credible sources on what actually happens to our consciousnesses when we die. What do they have to say? That there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And the light is love. Overwhelming amounts of pure psychic beauty. Power is just an incidental side effect. Thanos with the Heart of the Universe is the best marvel depiction of what what the "God" experience is meant to be like. Whoever wrote that one gets it.
You left important context out of that FF story: The Thing was considered an autobiographical character by Kirby, growing up in the same poor Jewish neighborhood. the biggest problem with creating a god character is you that you take the idea that should never be capable of understanding and give it form, it requires you to set some sort of limit for the power, even if it is a limit not visually shown(the imagination of the creator of said character) the higher the limit or the more they break the mold the better they are because they are slightly closer to what a god could be compared to the all knowing but benevolent personality most god characters have
@@The_Archer-he2ft what a fantastic answer
@@The_Archer-he2ft I think god of as like a blind person hearing a movie, They can hear the movie but each person will visualize it their head differently. If were to write a story, each character would see god in a different form depending their view. Like Batman would see god as his dead parents, while Blackcat would see god as a bride-taking judge, due to her ability to distort chance.
@@radiokunio3738 Its the same deal with Galactus right?

Nah it's clearly the Wall.
Immortal Hulk > Job
@@GDKF0238 it’s subjective
Do you ever get the feeling god is telling Job “who are you to question me?” rather than explaining it to him? Would an explanation not be possible even for god? Would god giving an actual explanation that could be passed down to all humanity have been a bad thing? Is gods goal to get the most souls in heaven? Does he have a goal?
@@samuelfraley8737the respond and goal are quite simple
Love one and others like you should love yourself as God has loved you, the sol purpose of joy
He did comunicate but he still left free will on us, you can follow the advice or reject it, making us humans
Would our lives still matered if God just speak to all the earth and left no room for doubt
Wouldn't that turn us into robots that just follow a comand
The truth shall free you
@@hugoflores1093 so you admit that if proof was given then our free will would be affected?

@@BobRooney290 That question is only really relevant if you are thinking of the 4 dimension we are working in.
Well said! I agree with you here. I also like to think that way.

It's impossible to be a good persona and a writer at the same time. Inherently mutually excusive.

@MisogynyMan if we didn't overthink them we probably wouldn't be watching these videos lol
I noticed this but I have a trick for my story that lets me have a good god with suffering
Yeah, this is one of the reasons why God isn't real

So naturally, theres no way to go anywhere with it,
That rap at the end needs to be a short cause I wanna share it I love it loll
I was not expecting that ending. Amazing.
Video started with comic nerding and turned into a super inteligent modern philosophy video.
Best
waiting patiently for you to drop an album
Thank you for reminding me that sins past exists. Every day I get more and more thankful that it’s no longer canon.
i like how comics tackle God with characters like the one above all and the prescence always intresting
The One Above All: I'm am the Multiverse of Marvel Creation.
Saitama: Ok...
You left important context out of that FF story: The Thing was considered an autobiographical character by Kirby, growing up in the same poor Jewish neighborhood. Him representing God giving Ben Grimm's life back has particular significance for this reason. That said, I enjoyed the video and am not trying to take a dump on your work.
I was wondering if he just purposefully left this out or not lmao. It’s a great piece of context alot of people miss out on
Why'd you have to remind us that gwen cheated on Peter with Norman 💀
if I have to live with the pain, so do you
Sssssshhhh, they retconned it, it's no longer canon, it can't hurt you anymore
@@alexlennen lmao
According to Nick Spencer's run it's not canon anymore.
@@alexlennen just like the hulk- it’s your mission.
I have watched all of your videos and I have to say, every single one is a banger. I wish there were more, but I don't want you to rush your projects in any way. Keep doing amazing work(:
Every video you drop is consistently awesome! Love the effort my man
The one above all is basically just like our God rn, he only shows up when we need him when we're lost in our lives and don't know what to do.
The rap at the end was everything 🔥🔥🔥
0:13 now that is strong
