I never saw it coming, and it blew my mind.) 9: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (it's just great, can't say more) 10: Wild Arms 1 (I have a lot of nostalgia for it, plus it has an amazing soundtrack) After Wild Arms it's a bit hard to say. I haven't played Earthbound since I was a kid, and I never really got far into it. It's on the list of things I need to replay. So is Xenogears, which I also played as a kid and could never get into/appreciate. Fortunately they're two games I actually still have the cartridge and disks for, and I fully expect them to knock Wild Arms off the list at least.
Only wish Natsume, or whomever the eff has the ip now, can only realize that Lufia is the BEST rpg they've EVER made. Genuinely surprised a lot of these haven't had more titles made. I know wild arms and suikoden ran for awhile, but they started altering the game mechanics a TON. :/
My favorite series are in no particular order The final fantasy tactics series The suikoden series (spin offs included) The dragon quest series The mana series The phantasy start series The super robot series The shining series The grandia series The front mission series The fire emblem series
Final Fantasy is basically 2 separate series' now. There's the 1-10 series (some would say 1-9), and then there's all of the completely random games that came afterwards.

I'm amazed when someone who loves JRPGs doesn't put Final Fantasy on their top 10. Like half these series for me personally I put below FF, but that's why it's your opinion. Maybe FF is too mainstream but there's good reason for it and even though it's my favourite besides FFXIV, I have to admit it hasn't really been that good in recent years. Suikoden is an amazing series at least so can't go wrong with that choice, even though it's been 10 years since I last played an entry from it and I even played every single one before.
10-5 - None 4 - Tales of 3 - Pokemon 2 - Persona 1 - Ys (this series is basically my life at this point) Lotta individual games from series I love but like... as for series as a whole, not really so much outside of these 3 tbh.
I haven't played that many JRPGs all things considered, so if I had to pick 3 it would be Final Fantasy, Souls and Tales EDIT: Holdup, if Monster Hunter counts then add that one too
For me 1. Dragon Quest 2. Ys 3. Suikoden (RIP) But yeah Ys VIII was an absolute masterpiece. I've been as Ys fan for near 30 years now and its my favorite in the series as well. Almost makes me feel bad for Ys IX since that is an absolutely fantastic game on its own but it had to follow up on one of the best RPGs ever made, lol.
I love your videos. I have to check out Growlanser. Xenosaga is a reason to live. I also love Disgaea and Star Ocean. I am almost done with Tales of Legendia. It is the weakest of the series so far, but I enjoy it. Great video. Thanks again.
Lol haven't played much JRPGs but i really liked Secret of mana and Dark Souls. Persona and Dragon quest are super good. I would say my favourite JRPGs are Bloodborne and Suikoden II tho

I really can't say I have a favorite series. Since I started branching out from Final Fantasy, I've only played a few titles of other series. I'd love to see a favorite stand-alone game list. Games like Skies of Archadia, Alliance Alive, or Hexyz Force that never got a sequel.
Tales is my favourite series right now. I think Final Fantasy would have been a lot of peoples favourite series but they really dropped the ball over the last 12 years and kind of lost the recipe of how to make a great Final Fantasy game.
1- Xenoblade 2- Tales of 3- Radiant História (could it count? Fire Emblem, Ogre, Langrisser, Growlanser, Disgaea and Advance Wars (and others) are a strategy series, ONLY, not a JRPG in any sense. By your logic the strategy genre would be only filled with western games like Starcraft, Command & Conquer, Age of Empires and so on. It' stupid. Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Hunter and others are not a JRPG, are a meta games, with the purpose of time consuming by capture or defeat all creatures. The most flagrant is Pokemon, with the events, the evolutions via link cable, the tickets, the two titles/cartrigdes of the same version of game, the null elaboration of the plot or the story, not take any rol at all, the creatures evolves, not you, etc, etc. Souls series (and Bloodborne, Sekiro) are literally an western action-like games made by japanese, slow-motion combat, playing with reflections, as in hack and slash but in slow motion, with dodge, parrot, stamina attacks, etc. Absolutely not JRPG. Like Ghost of Tsushima (made by muricans), Nioh, Dragon's Dogma, Drakengard and others. Many, many of the games that you all mencioned are Action RPG and not JRPG (the same rethoric that Strategy genre with western games). Zelda, the most profilic og this kind of game are not a JRPG, and none of you even mentioned it, why claim Alundra, a bunch of SNES games, Tales of, Tokyo Xanadu, Atelier, Nier, and others. Look, turned based combat without isometric strategy view is a sine qua nom condition to a game being JRPG. Keyword: Turns. What do you hate too much.
I don't think that I have played a series/individual games that I didn't enjoy. Final Fantasy, Grandia, I am Setsuna, Guardian's Crusade, Arc the Lad, Vandal Hearts, Gensou Suikoden, Kingdom Hearts, Wild Arms, Pokemon and Digimon World. As much as I love JRPGs, I tend to play a lot of different genres and I am into a certain style which is why I don't have a super expansive list. While I have played more than the series/individual games that I have listed, those are the ones that I have finished. I have played a lot of DQVIII, I have played a bit of DQXI and am having a great time with it. I love playing Persona V, but I really do need to take it off of the hardest difficulty as it just makes it too difficult. I enjoy Dark Cloud. The Alliance Alive is a lot of fun. I have played a bit of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and just like Persona V, it is great; however, because I set it on an insane difficulty with permanent deaths, I have been really struggling; so I will be dropping the difficulty. I am excited to play Ni No Kuni, Trails, Tales of, Xenoblade and the others on my backlog. They all look great.

@@tuantran-me9nz Final Fantasy has a number of pretty terrible games as of recent (FF13, FF15), that would knock them out of my top ten. If you asked me over a decade ago, yeah I would def. put them on their. But they seem to have lost their way over the past decade, with very bland characters and storylines (with the exception of FF7 remake that was stellar).
@@jeffjackson9679 13 isn't terrible at all though. It may have a couple annoying characters and a long tutorial, but other than that the game has a great soundtrack and very fun combat. That's all you need for a good game.
@@Walamonga1313 There are a lot of JRPG fans like that and it is frustrating. These are the same people who tell people to not play these games because they didn't like them. That stops people who may or may not like the game from deciding for themselves whether it is good or not.
@@PS1Fan1991 Yeah I don't like that kinda attitude. 1. Wild Arms
2. Suikoden
3. Trails/Kiseki
4. Dragon Quest
5. Lunar
6. Lufia
7. Final Fantasy
i've been gaming all my life but never had interest in playing jrpg's until i found your channel. jrpg's are all i play in my psp 'cause of you.
I was so tired of all the western games playing all my life. Recently gave jrpgs a chance and i am obsessed with gaming again
If we're talking JRPG's only my list would be
1: Suikoden 2 (it's a masterpiece of the genre, and another tragic casualty of Konami)
2: Lunar Silver Star Story & Lunar 2 Eternal Blue (I bunch them together, as they're legit tied for second, almost even my favorite)
3: Final Fantasy 6 (of course)
4: Chrono Trigger (also of course)
5: Final Fantasy Tactics (I think it counts...)
6: Lufia 2 (first game to make me bawl my eyes out)
7: FF7 (also also of course of course)
8: Breath of Fire 3 (has one of my favorite surprise/unexpected things in any JRPG ever. I never saw it coming, and it blew my mind.)
9: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (it's just great, can't say more)
10: Wild Arms 1 (I have a lot of nostalgia for it, plus it has an amazing soundtrack)
After Wild Arms it's a bit hard to say.
We should be friends. 😅
Good list! 👌
In no particular order
1. Golden Sun
2. Fire Emblem
3. Pokemon
4. Final Fantasy Tactics
5. Dragon Quest
My favorite series are in no particular order
The final fantasy tactics series
The suikoden series (spin offs included)
The dragon quest series
The mana series
The phantasy start series
The super robot series
The shining series
The grandia series
The front mission series
The fire emblem series
The last one is the fire emblem series
My favorite jrpgs are
1 Final fantasy franchise
2 Dragon quest franchise
3 Persona games
4 tales of games
Final Fantasy is basically 2 separate series' now. There's the 1-10 series (some would say 1-9), and then there's all of the completely random games that came afterwards.
@@guruthosamarthruin4459 What about 12?
@@ltb1345 It was basically an "offline MMO". Very different.
@@guruthosamarthruin4459 I played and finished all the main ff games and actually like the new ff games more (from 12 to ff7 remake)
My personal top 3, in no particular order...
Tales of
Wild Arms

3. Grandia
4. Atelier
5. Persona (from 3 onwards)
My favorite 5 are Persona, final fantasy, dragon quest, dark souls series and SMT.
10-5 - None
4 - Tales of
3 - Pokemon
2 - Persona
1 - Ys (this series is basically my life at this point)
Lotta individual games from series I love but like... as for series as a whole, not really so much outside of these 3 tbh.
That suikoden 3 opening theme
Right!? I watch it at least once a year, if not more.
I was showing to my 7 years daughter the otther day, so nice isint it?
I haven't played that many JRPGs all things considered, so if I had to pick 3 it would be Final Fantasy, Souls and Tales
EDIT: Holdup, if Monster Hunter counts then add that one too
Mine are probably suiko, xeno, persona
For me
1. Dragon Quest
2. Ys
3. Suikoden (RIP)
But yeah Ys VIII was an absolute masterpiece. I've been as Ys fan for near 30 years now and its my favorite in the series as well. Almost makes me feel bad for Ys IX since that is an absolutely fantastic game on its own but it had to follow up on one of the best RPGs ever made, lol.
1- Final fantasy
2- Persona
3- Suikoden
4- Fire emblem
5- Paper Mario
This list might change.
You've gotta try Final Fantasy 9
@@Walamonga1313 thanks for suggestion, i have played FF4 and really liked it
Bro! Your channel is amazing! Thanks for all the content!
My list based on gameplay, story, ignore the graphic quality or modern/nano concept in game.
1. Suikoden (108 char thats why i like) lol
2. FF series
3. Trails Heroes Series
4. Persona
5. YS
6. Dragon Quest
7. Valkrye Chronicle
8. Sakura Wars
1. Fire emblem
2. Final fantasy 1-10
3.pokemon
4.casltevania - metroidvania
5. Tales of
Of course Eric wouldn't pick final fantasy, for my top 3 is Final Fantasy, Suikoden and Fire emblem.
suikoden was my favorite until i played trails last year
This man has never led me wrong..
I really can't say I have a favorite series. Since I started branching out from Final Fantasy, I've only played a few titles of other series. I'd love to see a favorite stand-alone game list. Games like Skies of Archadia, Alliance Alive, or Hexyz Force that never got a sequel.
Awesome list for sure just so many good jrpgs wish I can just shut myself in for a week playing nonstop when I start a new one 😂
Tales is my favourite series right now.
I think Final Fantasy would have been a lot of peoples favourite series but they really dropped the ball over the last 12 years and kind of lost the recipe of how to make a great Final Fantasy game.
1- Xenoblade
2- Tales of
3- Radiant História (could it count? There is only one but I love that game)
4- Mother
5- Final Fantasy (i played only FFvi)
6- Pokemon
7-Paper Mario
I need to play others RPGs series i havent and a lot of people says its good, meenwhile i want to play Xenoblade 1 for the third time because it is so good and I want to understand the lore better now that I played Xenoblade 2 😅
My 2 favorite series are Phantasy Star and Final Fantasy
All rights here is my top 10 :
1) Final Fantasy (6, 7, 8, 10 (1 & 2), 12, 13 (All), Type 0 and 15)

Suikoden 1&2 Remaster!!!
Fire Emblem is my favorite jrpg series. From the moment i played fe7, i was hooked. And even though i never played those games, i say that Valkyria Chronicles is also my favorite jrpg series.
I haven't played too much JRPGs so here's mine
1. Tales of
2. Final Fantasy
3. Persona
4.
5. Sakura Wars
I just became a JRPG fan not too long ago so i still have a lot of games i need to discover in this genre
I quess u only played Shin Sakura Wars on PS4, the worst game in series, but still good.
@@nr2676 well i enjoyed the hell out of that game
Final Fantasy is the greatest JRPG series ever, and that is my opinion.

Out of the ones I've played, this would be my list.
10. Neptunia
9. Bravely Default

6. Pokemon
7. Xeno
8. Rune Factory
9. Neptunia
10. Atelier
11:57 that's the infamous shaya fan-translation y'know memes such as in america, murder hollace, tf?rururu. actually there is much better and fully playable lil' manster version which you can go ahead take a look for yourself.

I. Fire Emblem
no dragon quest in the top 10!? o.O most iconic JRPG series ever?
and final fantasy but then it his personal opinion
I always advocate for "at least give it a try" when it comes to pretty much everything, because who knows maybe you end up enjoying something the general public didn't. However, I also recommend and not recommend specific games and give reasons for it heh. Probably could've been a game reviewer, if it wasn't politics nowadays.
This guy is rude AF. He has a JRPG channel with a fanbase and has the audacity to use traditional derogatory terms that has been historically aimed at said fanbase of said genre. We need to be culturally competent when dealing with some like you Erick "Landon" (more like Lambon), but yet you do not educate yourself on the verbiage and significance in impact. Do better. ✌🏽
Wow I'm shocked you didn't include final fantasy or dragon quest!
Funny that you mentioned you didn't like Ys VI at first. The very first thing I saw of any Ys game was that gross and weird CGI intro with the awful voice acting. Almost turned me off from the entire series! Then I blind-bought Ys VIII, fell in love with it, and found out you can turn the CGI and English voices off in Ys VI!
I wish to play PATH OF RADIANCE so bad!!! I love the track AGAINST THE BLACK KNIGHT!!! It is so epic!!
I want to see Path of Radiance remastered for Switch with a Casual option.

#3 Etrian Odyssey
#4 Phantasy Star
12:22 I was thinking of what my list would look like. But when I got to Fire Emblem I just thought "if they went more hardcore on the dating sim it would probably be a series I truly love."
Nice, your 2nd is my first. Fire emblem remains my favorite series. I think it is follow by my old favorite, a dormant one, Breath of Fire. Then probably FF.
Oh my god.. GROWLANSER! I've never met another soul that knows about it let alone loves it as well! I really really respect your JRPG list.. awesome taste in games and RPGs (I love/played all!)
Suikoden series will always be my favorite...it has become a tradition for me to play s1 and s2 every year...planning to buy a ps2 next year so I can play s3,s4,s5 and tactics again
Interesting list. I thought both Breath of Fire and Wild Arms will be there, guess I was wrong.
1. tales of
2. Pokémon
3. Golden sun
4. Final fantasy

Star ocean should be in the top 10
