That's what I used for my first year before moving to a cheap offset I got online that was at least higher quality than the home depot junk i'd otherwise have been stuck with. I've been making food on it that's just as good as what my friend and I were able to make on his Oklahoma Joe's using the exact same wood over the 4th of July. Burning that clean fire really does make all the difference, and burning pure wood make such an improvement as well
I'm not buying a new grill anytime soon, especially this one, im just here to support Jeremy and this channel! Always quality content, this video is gonna help the right people who are looking for the right cooker for them.
I lusted over the PK as an add-on to my pellet smoker for honest-to-goodness grilling. But my head was turned by the big red kamado grill. I loved it so much I never used the pellet smoker and now it’s been adopted by a friend. My kamado grill does excellent hot and fast and low and slow. I don’t see any particular advantage of the PK over a Weber grill at half the price. I’ll be interested in seeing what Jeremy does with it.
I have that new PK original 300 whatever.... couple months after I got it the Franklin one was announced. The ONLY difference is the color, the front shelf, the left shelf (mine only has right), and the little shelf brackets underneath... mine has the holes for them... so if you don't want your brackets I could mount them on mine... but.... that's it. nothing else is different. So you're buying some shelves and brackets and a different powdercoat and a badge. Anyway... PK grills are awesome... definitely love mine... amazing improvements from the original... for the price... best option.
I have the PK360 and it is by far my favorite. I also have a Weber Master Touch and a Pitt Barrel Cooker. All have there pros and cons, be it price, accessories, or ease of use. I find myself using the PK 360 more often, because of the heat retention and ease of temperature control for my needs but $$$$ . A close second is the Pit Barrel Cooker, for ribs and chicken. If I could only chose two those would be my choices. The Webber is a classic though. No matter the grill, I enjoy cooking outdoors.
Just realized the AF in the model number probably stands for “Aaron Franklin”. When I first saw it on his website a couple weeks ago I initially thought it stood for another “AF” meaning, and have to admit I thought it was cooler then! Great channel and content as always Jeremy!
It seems like the Weber 22 has significantly more rack space would you say that there is adequate space for when you are grilling out when guests are over? The PK seems great for everyday grilling if you have a small family but if you have the whole family over for Sunday dinner idk if it can handle the workload efficiently
Was going to buy one here in Australia a couple weeks ago I think its the PK 360, but at $1599 I thought a bit of a rip off so I bought a fully optioned SNS grill with every attachment imaginable for less than $800, best bbq I’ve bought, so versatile
It's only 700 here in the USA and a normal pk is 800 with the stand and everything. But for the price and being a special edition it should come with a thermometer
Great video - looking forward to seeing you cook on it! I’ve been waiting for the Franklin PK to be released for awhile and hopefully have one coming soon.
I grew up using a original PK grill that was my parents. For holidays my dad would come over & we would smoke a turkey on it. As I got older I would cook myself on it. I used it until I was about 18. It needed the inside racks to be replaced. Life got busy & it sat around for years & years. When we cleaned moms house out I took it to my property for future use one day. I can't have a grill were I live right now. The body was well built the aluminum frame needs a little love but one day it will smoke again. I can't remember who's video but somewhere there's a history lesson on them. Be awesome to see you cook on it.

Looking forward to seeing your upcoming cooks on this. Your video content is outstanding! Thanks so much for sharing! Cheers!

Not sure I'm diggin' the left-handed hinge. It kind of renders the left shelf useless. Any reason they didn't go the conventional route and hinge it in the back?
Looks great but not sure it justifies the higher price tag from the PK300. Im wondering if the one they’ve sent JY is a prototype? Hence the instruction errors and not thermometer.
Whenever I'm putting something like this together, i usually remove all the screws from the bags and sort them by size as one of the first steps. My parents have my grandpa's old PK. 50 years old and still as good as new. I have one as well and it's a great little grill. Shout out to a great company out of Little Rock, AR!
Never had a PK - heard about them - cant wait to see how it goes. Is the price increase for Franklin’s name - or did he provide input to its design (not conveniences) but what would translate to a better steak or meat.
Looks rad but I think my real Original PK is just as good. Maybe if the cooking area was larger it could be worth it. Good video though, we appreciate the info Mr Yoder
While the PK is a very good grill, celebrity endorsements/models are almost always a way to distract buyers from looking at what really matters. For $700 one can do much, much better. A Bronco Pro is a good example. It will truly grill (on 2 levels), and will really do low and slow (10+ hours, unattended) and can cook 9 racks of ribs or 12 half-chickens, and do cold smoking as well. The Bronco has 20% more cooking surface (that's only using 1 grate... it supports 2) and (like the PK) is built like a tank. More fuel efficient, more capable, supports use of a water pan when desired and so is much, much more versatile. Price? $700. After more than 50 years of grilling and owning numerous grills and 6 kamados, I have found that a high quality drum smoker is the best overall option for anyone looking for a truly capable backyard grill/smoker/roaster that doesn't compromise on any of those functions.
@@davetarrant6888 The Bronco Pro is indeed a drum smoker. The UDS is much more basic. I didn't cover all the design features that make the Bronco my favorite drum. Best ash management, clean-out cup at bottom allows power wash which will drain out, etc. If your budget doesn't allow for the Pro you can get the little brother (the one I have for only $350. Kinda makes the Franklin PK an absurd option.
@@foodonfire3662 Thanks, I looked up the Bronco Pro and it looks like a great system. I have a UDS that I built in 2009! I used it quite a bit back then but kind of lost interest after a while. Started watching some YT videos recently and was thinking about maybe getting back into BBQ a little bit. One thing that you hear a lot of guys say, is you need that clean blue smoke to get good BBQ. I alway felt like it was impossible to get clean smoke out of my UDS because it has so little oxygen. What are your thought on the smoke with the Bronco?
@@davetarrant6888 Gas grills, charcoal grills, drums, off-sets, kamados & pellet grills. They all cook differently with varying degrees of overlap. Some, especially the off-sets, produce a unique result when it comes to smoke flavor. Drums are known for their design which invites meat drippings to fall directly onto the coals and thereby produce a distinct flavor and aroma. If you just want the smoke from wood chunks you've added to the charcoal then use either a simple drip pan or a drip pan with water. The Bronco does not suffer from air restriction as some drums may. My Bronco (and Big Joe) are driven by a fan controller that gives 100% reproducible results from 170℉ to 450℉. I've been using these controllers since BBQ Guru introduced their first product. My current unit is a FireBoard (1st Gen) which has no equal that I can find. I recently bought a Meater+ which I bought to use on a rotisserie. It was a major disappointment. The bluetooth failed to reach 40 feet with line-of-sight through a window. I also really disliked the software which is a major part of any thermometer system and of course it cannot control a fan. So again, if I could only have ONE cooker to GRILL, SMOKE LOW&SLOW, COLD SMOKE, and ROAST it would be a drum (Bronco Pro) with a fan controller (FireBoard). Good luck.
Should come with a decent thermometer. Pretty stock standard attachment on any charcoal bbq you'd assume. Especially paying the extra $$ for his name to be on it. Intersting to see some cooks on it in the future......I'm sure next will be Franklin Weber bbqs !
I was so close to getting a PK for awhile, but ended up getting a kamado joe on sale recently. There are alot of things that draw me to the PK, but alot that frustrates me like the lack of thermometer. It feels like PK is in the business of nickeling and diming the customer. With all that said I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this grill.
Now threw Black Friday the coal color version of this grill is 30% off the rest of the PK’s are 20% off. Pretty good sale if you were on the fence about getting.
Well, I'm glad that cooker also comes in black because that Cyan color is hideous IMO. Tough call between this and the PK360. I've got an SnS Kamado built around the Slow n Sear for grilling that i like a lot, but if I didn't have that a PK Grill would probably be what I'd go for for my grilling needs.
Jeremy, pick up the phone and call the Company and ask them to send out a thermometer, in packaging it could have been overlooked. Who buys a grill and doesn't get a thermometer? Well, obviously it was you, but heck it doesn't look good for reputation. My new Weber Summit grill arrives tomorrow, I think it'll cover the bases and then some. Nice grill though, will you be entering a steak cooking contest...I understand they're popular in your new area and PK's are the grill to use? Best
I watched on Chuds BBQ page him smoking a brisket in his offset and then he vacuum sealed the brisket and did like a 12hr rest in a sous vide bath at 160 degrees or something like that. I know you are a fan of the long rest and have a warming oven. I would love to see you do this and get your opinion on it. I think it is a good idea I'm just worried of what it might do to the bark but Chud had nothing but good things to say about the method. And so far Chud is the only video I have seen on it, but that doesn't mean there isn't more. Cheers
I was curious if the tray slots were designed to hold an ash catcher, as I've been debating whether to rig something like that up on my original PK Original🤔

They use a honey mustardish sauce I am not a fan of. My uncle came and was set on it. Disappointed. Til I made him some ribs. 😁 Dino, of course. (this cut has the extra meat that coopers and a few other places use. If you just get beef ribs itll be seperated and used as a ribeye cut.)
Alternatively, just head to lockhart and throw a rock.
Youll find yourself in heaven if you follow said rock. As youll hit a centex bbq spot pretty much indefinitely. 🤣
Just 1 mans humble opinion.
@@firghteningtruth7173 can’t agree with you more. Give me some grill grates and charcoal and it’s as good as a pk. The rest of what your saying is either you drinking too much tonight or truth. Snows shouldn’t have dropped in the monthly and most other joints you mentioned I agree. So I feel you. Just come down to Spring and try Corkscrew. Another top ten.
I see a lot of hype on these grills. Looking forward to seeing what all the bus is about.
At this point I’m leaning toward save your money, but I have only cooked on it twice at this point
I was lucky enough to find an old dutchess cooker, which I refurbished and saved from the scrapyard, that I think was originally a PK.... no instructions came with it though. Lol. Similar features. Can't wait to see what you can bbq on it. Thanks
How does it compare to a Webber kettle?
I would take a weber grill any day over that!
I agree 👍
If only they would make The 360 in the US as well. I have a PK go and love it. Same thing though, wish it as US too.
Instructions? Who uses instructions?
Great video! Thank you for sharing that bbq love!
I look forward to the cooks 🙂
What’s the brand on the knife!!
Ruger
CANNOT WAIT! Thnx for the new grill ideas 🤫
Love how the lid goes all the way back. It’s a design flaw on my Webber MasterTouch.
I left another BBQ channel once I got your notification. Just sayin #loyalty
Haha thanks for the loyalty!

My parents have my grandpa's old PK. 50 years old and still as good as new. I have one as well and it's a great little grill. Shout out to a great company out of Little Rock, AR!
We love to hear it. #BuiltToLast
You have a Burch barrel! Way more interested in that lol
Me too! Videos coming soon. I really, really, like it
@@MadScientistBBQ anxious to see that! I gotta stop spending money on grills and smokers though. Need a bigger place before my fs120 gets here lol
BOSS!!! What is that thing hanging form the tripod behind you as you unbox?
Thanks for the vid, I'm happy with my current grill. My $700 will go towards protein
Smart man. I always say you’re way better off with inexpensive but decent equipment and extra money to buy meat
Are you gunna tell us what you think of the AF cookbook?
What a beauty!
Never had a PK - heard about them - cant wait to see how it goes. Is the price increase for Franklin’s name - or did he provide input to its design (not conveniences) but what would translate to a better steak or meat.
At this point I think there are only changes of convenience. Seems like it would be better to do the regular pk
D Rowe is 💯. The ol Weber round can grill up just about anything you can imagine, and for the price hard to beat
What is that item on the tripod behind you? Looks interesting to say the least.
Looks rad but I think my real Original PK is just as good. Maybe if the cooking area was larger it could be worth it. Good video though, we appreciate the info Mr Yoder
I Ve got the PK 360 , worth every cent❤
Can we get an update on cooks on the grill and what your thoughts have been? Great video!
Nice and brief!
When you say “high quality drum smoker” are you referring to an upright drum smoker, like the ugly drum smoker?
I have thermos in the lid of my Kettle and never use them. If I need to know cooking temp, I run a Thermoworks digital.
Assembly apron is a must
I was so close to getting a PK for awhile, but ended up getting a kamado joe on sale recently. There are alot of things that draw me to the PK, but alot that frustrates me like the lack of thermometer. It feels like PK is in the business of nickeling and diming the customer. With all that said I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this grill.
Any tips when cooking a baby goat (cabrito)?
Best
Would ya look at that, the convenient shelf is already helping. 💨💨 🤣
Were can I order one? Thanks in advance
Have you done a video reviewing the burch barrel?
So how much is the pk grill anyway
Can you do a smoker review on a chargriller pro for us fellas that can’t afford a ok joe or old country?
Great video Jeremy. I'm interested in learning what you think of the oklahoma joe bronco? I'm interested in it but don't know enough about it.
Looking forward to the first cook
Any chance we will see a video on the Burch Barrel?
I watched on Chuds BBQ page him smoking a brisket in his offset and then he vacuum sealed the brisket and did like a 12hr rest in a sous vide bath at 160 degrees or something like that. I know you are a fan of the long rest and have a warming oven. I would love to see you do this and get your opinion on it. I think it is a good idea I'm just worried of what it might do to the bark but Chud had nothing but good things to say about the method. And so far Chud is the only video I have seen on it, but that doesn't mean there isn't more. Cheers
Next thing is “Franklin BBQ restaurant unboxing” lmao. Pretty cool that your able to get Franklin bbqs since they probably sellout fast
Haha this will probably be the final Franklin cooker I ever get my hands on
I was curious if the tray slots were designed to hold an ash catcher, as I've been debating whether to rig something like that up on my original PK Original🤔
I have the new original 300... just not the franklin version... and i've had zero issues with ash/coals coming out the bottom. my old original... yeah you'd need a basket down there for sure but I've had no issues with mine.
Weber Kettle Crew here!
Is it any better than a Weber kettle?
Yes.
good music........................
Hopefully we can see you doing some smoking on this thing. I have the regular new original PK300 and its been turning out the best Boston Butts Ive ever had in my life!
Wow. I was wondering how many people use it for smoking. I am gonna have to try it
i bought his books too on amazon and i really enjoyed them really good for beginner and kind of inspiring hahha
I spy a Burch Barrel in the background…hope that makes it into some future content!
Count on it. Been messing around with it and I love that thing…
Great channel!!!
What BBQ guy doesn't have sheet pans? Am I wrong?
Woohoo, I’m the first to comment! Overall, great videos and awesome insights on barbeque!
Thanks! No cooking in this video but I will be posting the first cook very soon.
@@MadScientistBBQ looking forward another cook !
will you be using another cheap cut beef/pork.... nothing is cheap anymore lol. Great demo as always!
Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the grill! (esp. vs. a kettle)
I think that will be the real test.
Seems to be quite a step down from other grills you use.
What can this do that a $60 Weber 18" kettle can't?
Heat retention and space would be the two biggest differences
Review a workhorse pit please!
nice one on the thermometer
Just bought my brand new 2022 vehicle. It didnt come with a speedometer though. Had to take one out of my old vehicle and install it in my new one.
Bro, buy a set of hex socket bits and a drill socket adapter. It's a huge time saver for assembly.
