    "VIVE LA FRAN-"
    Private Bernard watched as his fellow mortarman fell to the ground clutching at his side, his once proud patriotic cry now replaced with dead silence. Private Bernard, similarly, went silent as he went into a daze as he observed what remained of his platoon.
    'Grand-père's stories were never like this.' Bernard thought to himself.
    Having grown up hearing many tales of his Grandfather's exploits in France's many colonial ventures, it was the young Bernard's intention to join the colonial infantry as soon as he came of age so that he may serve his country while also seeing the beautiful, exotic lands that it possessed. Being assigned to dull garrison duty in Indochina following his training Bernard was ecstatic when he was told that his unit would partake in the seizure of the island of Natuna. Not only was he finally going to see some action but he himself would be among the list of brave soldiers that would add more territory to France's colonial possessions. After the native insurgents of the island were dealt with it was believed that that would be it...that was until the American President announced over the radio a declaration of war aimed at "France's blatant attempts at imperialism and complete disregard for the self-determination of native peoples.". Bernard's commanding officer thought little of these words and ordered that Bernard's platoon be placed in sole charge of defending Natuna's coast from an American invasion. The size of the American landing force was gravely underestimated as most of the men in his unit doubted that the Americans would commit a large force to the liberation of a single island. This mistake allowed the Americans to secure a beachhead and saw Bernard's platoon be nearly wiped out.
    Snapped out of his daze by the sound of whizzing American bullets, Bernard deemed it best to live to fight another day. Leaving his mortar behind, Bernard retreated inland to inform the rest of the unit of the American presence so that a counterattack could be launched.
    (EDIT): Changed the word "Grandpa" to the French spelling in Bernard's thought.

    "This is a load of bull." A discontented soldier said in a circle of his brothers in arms.
    Taking a long puff from a cigarette another soldier said, "What're you going on about this time Jenkins?"
    Pvt. Lee Jenkins stood up from the circle and began venting. "This war! It's a load of horse shit! We're supposed to be fighting for America by God not some natives on some damned island in the Pacific! Hell, things are still rocky back home and the President wants us to butt heads with a bunch of frog-eating Frenchies? Am I the only one that thinks that don't make no sense?"
    A disinterested crowd dismissed Lee's viewpoint as they didn't care much for the sensibility of the conflict so long as they got to see action.
    A machine gunner spoke up in a Bostonian accent, "If ya got such a problem with the fighting Lee then why the hell did ya join?"
    "I ain't got no problem with fighting, I'm just wondering why we had to come out here to do it. We ain't got any business being out here. We were doing just fine in our own part of the world while Europe tore itself apart so I don't get why we had to get ourselves involved then, and here we are now! People are still living in Hoovervilles back home and now the president's got us in a war on an election year? It's like he's trying to get the nation as pissed as he can!"
    "Quit yer bellyachin Jenkins." A gruff Irish voice called out. Immediately recognizing the voice of their superior the men rose to their feet and saluted the gruff Irish man that appeared from behind Jenkins.
    "At ease." The men dropped their salutes and paid attention to what their Colonel had to say. "All right lads! We've orders to advance onto the French positions and take them as quick as we can. Judging by how many men they had here on the beach they must not have too sizable of a force. I expect everyone to be ready within fifteen minutes!" Colonel McMalory then whipped out his ever present flask and took a generous chug before moving on to the next batch of soldiers to prepare them for the assault.
    Jenkins grabbed his rifle and his helmet before following behind the rest of his comrades. 'I won't lie' Jenkins thought to himself 'This war is about as pointless as can be, but that don't mean I can't get my fair bit of fun out of it.' His mind wandered. 'After all, when was the last time I'd been able to shoot a gun?'
    Jenkins had quite the love for firearms ever since childhood but when the Depression set in he had difficulty replenishing his ammunition. Seeking a job while also satisfying his itchy trigger finger he joined the Marines and got shipped off to the Philippines where he remained for a year before having to land on Nantuna.
    'Not to mention...' Jenkins' mind wandered. 'the lovely ladies back home will love a man with some war stories under his belt...among other things.' Chuckling at his own lewd prospects Jenkins then quietly followed the rest of the American soldiers, albeit with a barely noticeable grin on his face

    Hey Diplex I just had an idea for a future series: you could team up with one of your friends who play mowas2 and basically decide a backstory for some sort of war then create a map of sorts showing places that will be fought over in said war then give each person a limited amount of troops and vehicles they can deploy during the war. so essentially it would start on the mutual borders of both nations/factions then one person would create the battlefield in the gem editor, next they will create a mission on that map with the name of the battle and they would spawn in and place their troops that they want to deploy and select player 1 for them. Then that player would send the files to the other player would load up the map then move their camera to the opposite side of the map (which would be determined during the creation of the map) where they would go to the f3 tab and immediatly select player 2 and keep fog of war on so they would not see player 1s army then of course they would spawn in their army and send the completed game file to you where you would select a neutral army then let the AI resolve the battle and however the battle would be resolved would dictate which player would be defending in the next battle and who would be attacking. The winner of the war would be decided when one side either runs out of troops or they run out of territories. If you liked you could even make certain territories generate troops/vehicles after every battle and if those territories are captured by your opponent they would benefit them instead, thus adding more diversity and realism to this campaign of sorts. anyways Thank you Diplex for doing what you do your content helps me make it through the tough days and makes my life just about bearable Keep doing what you do.
    Big thanks
    -Cervod

    FUN FACT: After the world war two the Allies are trying to annex all territories from the axis power for themselves including Indonesia. but by the time WW2 is finished, Indonesia suddenly declared its independence, but the allies are having none of it so war ensues. This War is called Indonesian War of Independence. The Republican Indonesian forces faced wave after wave of Dutch army and British SAS, while still holding their ground. The Allies casualty was so high that the UN is forced to recognized Indonesian independence.

    • @casperoneil8815
      @casperoneil8815 6 лет назад +1

      That's not how it went, Indonesian casualties were way higher than the Dutch and British combined. They both stopped when Uncle Sam threatened to cut off economical support for both countries since they were broke af after the Second World War.

    • @mynamejeb8743
      @mynamejeb8743 6 лет назад

      @@casperoneil8815 true the Republican casualties were higher but the allies just cant sustain the invasion anymore after WW2 and the assassination of general Wallaby in Surabaya really hurts the invasion effort. The UN then told the Dutch and the republican to ceasefire to prevent further conflict. the point is they failed to reclaim their colony, and Indonesia stands to this day. so we won

    Battle of Natuna, 1936
    Not long after the declaration of war, a detachment of the colonial infantry of the United States Marine Corps launched an ambitious seaborne landing on west beach of Natuna island. The green troops quickly encountered stiff French defences, manned by their own colonial infantry. The first several platoons failed to break out of the beach, but by the time the captain, put in command of the landing, arrived, the first line of defence had been sufficiently cut down to make a breakthrough. The remainder of French troops did not wait to be overwhelmed and withdrew into the jungle, to the nearby command post. Although inflicting a heavy toll upon the American forces with infantry mortars and an artillery gun, the French crews realised they could not hold the beach zone and thus chose to regroup at the centre of the island, conceding the beachhead to the US.
    To be Continued....

    Tbe americans were slaughtered on the beach but pushed inland. As the french tried to fall back they were cut to pieces. But as the americans massed in the forrest the french artillery blew many of them to pieces as they mortared and fired on the french possitions.
