To be fair to the AA stuff in this battle, the enemy T8 CV is a Saipan, which carries TX aircraft, but in smaller numbers. Which makes sense, as while Lexington was one of the largest fleet carriers to see service in WWII, Saipan was an escort carrier.
Saipan was launched as a light carrier, a CVL. This class of ship was slightly larger than the Independence Class of light carrier. Larger and faster than the 'escort' carriers.
1:50 there are solid arguments to why aa doesn't work, but having T8 planes scrape the outskirts of a T10 aa cruiser and not having a plane shot down isn't one of them
If it's one group of planes versus one ship, the planes should win. But if they're being flown through the AA sector of a small group of ships (3-4), then they should be shot down. At the end of the day, it's mostly about whether you can send enough steel skywards before the planes can drop their ordinance, after all :)
