Same. It's not a lot, but the under-seat storage is valuable to me as well. If the hybrid gave significantly better mileage, I'd consider it, but it's so minimal it just feels like more $ for little return.
I have the 2024 tacoma TRD off-road I've had it now for over 5 months now I almost 15,000 miles on it now every thing is so much better then my 3rd generation every thing like changing spark plugs air cleaner and oil changes they went with regular oil filter in stead of canister oil filter on 3rd generation and so much better torque and a lot better transmission
Toyota and value? No. Toyota and premium? Yes. If you want a fuel efficient truck, go for the Ford Maverick. If you want a truck that will perform off road as well as on road, Tacoma. Value for a $50k vehicle? We are way past the value stage.
No manual transmission in the hybrid. So I’m getting the premium as soon as I figure out which arm and leg I’ll give up to pay for it! Those prices are insane! Gladiator or Tacoma……how did pickins get so slim?
@@dvader3263 seems like the obvious choice doesn’t it? But I still have to steer while shifting. I’ve been down this road before……I’m an octopus…..and I’ve already made many bad choices
I think most people will be more than happy with the non hybrid power delivery. Dyno numbers show around a peak of 300ft/lbs to the wheel. That's way more power than any V6 had that was ever available in that entire class of pickups.
Toyota fan boy here. Have and still own several Toyota / Lexus products. Hands down the most reliable lowest maintenance vehicle I have ever owned is the Prius. Boring / ugly commuter but 100K miles on the original brakes! Zero issues with that car. Toyota hybrids are the best.
It’s an off Road Prius? That’s what people are concerned about. Risking $70k on an untested technology is not an unjustified worry especially for such a limited mileage premium
@@rickyaz8640 I am not justifying the hybrid. But there is no reason the believe the hybrid system is fragile. Heck I would be more concerned with the turbos. Either way I am sticking with my V6👍
@@emmanuelmedina2740 for an off roader it’s untested. The complexity only adds about 2.5 miles per gallon with a much smaller gas tank. Not sure it’s a trade off most off roaders prefer
Why are people assumimg that if the electric motor were to fail, the truck is dead? Thats never been the case for standard hybrid systems, much less on a system like this, which is in sequence. The electric motor is assisting the gas motor. Not the other way around.
Prius hybrids have had a good track record for over a decade too...Meanwhile my almighty, indestructible, 4.0 V6 needed a head gasket repair at 130k miles.
@tacoteng2095 exactly. Prius' have been a thing for over 20 years. Once the battery goes bad, or the EV motor dies, the car simply operates like a normal gas car. It still has a regular combustion engine in it.
Why would you compare a premium versus a standard you should have compared a premium versus a premium because I know you can get the iForce max in premium
Not worth it to me, more power, barely better mpg. Power is good on the regular turbo. Plus the Hybrid has Zero under backseat storage due to the hybrid battery. C’mon Toyota. PS- same bed on both 😂
This is what I decided too. He's basically reviewing the exact trim, color, and spec of the Tacoma TRD Off-Road I bought. I specifically didn't want the hybrid battery because of the potential of additional failure. It's a comfortable ride both on and off the pavement.
Even if the hybrid were to completely fail, because it's in series, the engine could still drive the transmission. The hybrid also offers MUCH better low-end torque which is beneficial for crawling. Toyota hybrids don't exactly have a reputation of failing.
The 4th gen Tacoma in general is already full of "more stuff to fail" on the trail 😅 You'll be fine. All that extra power will help driving around at altitude.
LoL. iforce max. Max headache, max cash when you have a 2 complex systems to fail . Max fail. Toyota must have been taken over by a rogue entity trying to destroy its good standing.
The non-hybrid makes the most sense for me. I don’t need, or want, the extra complexity and cost.

I think the hybrid ECVT is actually less complex... Ben, what do you think?

@Ashoud_Anobetah then I will I change turbo that's called maintenance not a problem

Easier to shift the manual by giving up the left arm.

The Maverick hybrid makes more sense if used for light use, especially now where Ford now offers AWD on the hybrid for 3025.
im not waiting 1000 years for a truck
Also have to look long term.. How much is it going to cost you maintaining that iForce Max.. Battery..etc?
Look at how much old Prius would cost. It’s not much
But the iForce Max has so much more torque though. The engine drives the transmission, so it's for torque and hauling, not for efficiency.

The premium package is hard to find and overpriced. A hybrid with the premium package is 60k. For a Mexican made truck. They have truly gone insane.
Ben both trucks have composite beds!

Damn that mini van was on his asssss
If I owned a 3500 lb camper, Id opt for the hybrid, otherwise go with the standard spec.
I chose the ridgeline trailsport over this
Couldn't be happier
Wheels & tires are not the same. 18" Falken AT3 on the hybrid (33") instead of the 17" BFG's (32.6") on the gas model.

does the hybrid model qualify for ev tax incentives?
no
Once your up and moving? Your going 35.
Does it ever run in EV at a low MPH?
Yes
I have the Land Cruiser and putting around in the mountains at low speed the motor isn’t running, weird but works good.
If your really going to use it OFFROAD get the non hybrid..less stuff to go wrong and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere..

Backseat of that hybrid is useless space since a normal human can’t fit. Not sure a small dog can fit
Backseat is no different than the non hybrid, and it's still more spacious than the 3rd gen. Try again
