    I just got the Dell s3423dwc which is comparable. I am using it with an M1 MacBook Air. A couple of comments. Use the USB-C port which has DisplayPort over Alt Mode instead of HDMI. You will get the full 100 hz and text will be sharp and crisp. Magnet is particularly useful with a 34" Ultrawide monitor. Knowing just a few keyboard commands will make you super efficient in using all that space. The speakers are serviceable but be aware that you can't control volume (and brightness) with the keyboard unless you download a separate app. That isn't Dell's fault - MacOS doesn't support it natively with DisplayPort. I use MonitorControl for Mac and it saves me a lot of grief. No more trying to fiddle with the little monitor buttons and slow menus. All in all, I am happy with the purchase of the S3423dwc after the lessons learned.

      @@sizwemasuku5407 You don’t need a separate cable if you have a USB-C to USB-C cable. It has built-in DisplayPort over Alt Mode.

      Its only has these ports listed here - Ports & Slots
      1. Security-lock slot | 2. Power connector | 3. HDMI 2.0 ports (2) | 4. Stand lock feature | 5. DisplayPort 1.2 | 6. Audio line out port | 7. USB 3.0 upstream port | 8. USB 3.0 downstream | 9. USB 3.0 with 1.2 BC charging | 10. Speakers (2)

      @@sizwemasuku5407 Sorry about that. The s3423dwc (that I have) model has "5. USB Type-C upstream port (Alternate mode with DisplayPort 1.4, Power Delivery up to 65 W)". 3440×1440 at 120 Hz is the maximum of DisplayPort 1.2 so I believe you still should get better results than HDMI.

    I think the issue you’re having with the colour shift when looking at the screen from an angle is because this monitor uses a VA panel. If you want a monitor that alleviates this issue, and gives more uniform colours at different viewing angles, then you need to look at monitors that use a IPS panel.

      Makes sense. I learned more abpj this after the video

      But the thing is contrast is better on a VA panel then on IPS!

    I'm also considering buying this monitor. Indeed, the diminishing color problem is specific to VA Panels, however considering that the Dell U series with IPS display is considerably more expensive, I still think it is a good investment

    • @soliduscode
      @soliduscode  2 года назад +1

      Definitely it is a good investment. As I mentioned in the video, I tend to be very picky and the color "problem" can easily be overlooked. You will enjoy the monitor simply for the shear screen real estate and get more done.

      AND, the same monitor with IPS doesn't have the 100 HZ refresh rate, which was a bit of a deal breaker to me.

    I know I'm very late to this, but in case you didn't find this out yet, a monitor desk arm would solve your height problem, just buy one with good weight capacity and decent max height for 100 bucks and you can position the monitor literally anywhere you could ever want

    Are you using this monitor at full resolution? What is the maximum resolution and frequency used? What type of notebook or pc port is being used to connect to it (HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0, USB-C, etc)?

    • @soliduscode
      @soliduscode  2 года назад +3

      Hi Görkem, I did not experience ghosting or smearing per se - then again I dont tend to work on high frame rate productivity (gaming etc). I mainly work on video editing at ~24-60 fps and programming. However, even with my type of low intensity work, the color vibrance ( ie guess color smearing ) was very distracting to me. So much so, I returned the monitor and replaced it with Dell 3419W, of which i will have a review coming up soon. Thank you for watching the video Görkem.

      @@levifry All my monitor shopping has been for an IPS panel, but Dell has some great sales right now . Unfortunately, all of their wide monitors are VA panels. I have been looking for some reassurance on youtube that an ultrawide monitor with a VA panel would work but the comments here alone haven't convinced me lol. I have been looking at LG a lot as well, they have plenty of IPS options. So you are quite happy with the monitor your purchased. Would you recommend the IPS panel and also going with LG. Thanks

      @@paulflogeras2309 IPS is an absolute must. Don't skimp on that one! Unfortunately, the LG monitor I got started dying almost immediately. When I called LG support, they told me that I could ship the monitor back to the factory, and I would have to wait 6-8 weeks for them to repair it and then ship it back to me. When I asked if they would ship me a working monitor in the meantime, they refused... I was pretty upset because I had JUST bought the monitor and I needed it for work. They didn't care at all. So I plan to never buy an LG monitor again! I returned it, and bought an ASUS monitor and it has been amazing. I loved it so much, I ended up buying a second one! I got the ASUS 34” Ultrawide (VP349CGL) if you're curious

    With your issue in the height adjustment, my solution to you is to probably invest in a height adjusted desk, helps you not sit all day long and the computer can definitely give you that peak of height that you want to have

    What are your views on using this monitor for coding?

    • @soliduscode
      @soliduscode  2 года назад +1

      Hey Paulie - I think the monitor is good if you are comfortable with the minor imperfection that is the viewing angle of the monitor. If you are good with the height and have good speakers you plan to use (or you have sharp hearing) then this is good for coding. Why I deciding against it for me was that shifting my glance from on side of screen to another (think windows side by side) one side was faded/dimmer than another which made me question the monitor quality and whether i might out grow it over it. I try to get item/equipment that will be with me for years. Thank you for watching the video by the way :D
