  • The Top 8 Reasons why you SHOULD NOT modify a DJ controller case. I watched about a dozen videos from various people making mods and my stomach turned. I had to stop watching some of them as they started drilling and cutting holes on these cases.
They were totally unaware that connectors were meant to be mounted on electronics---not cases. And that sometimes these connectors, be it XLR or 1/4" or Powe rCon are mostly plastic and can snap off the case when transporting them about.
You have to stop and think about this---if it were possible to have a case that came from each manufacturer that provided these outlets, don't you think that these multi-million dollar companies by now, would sell them like that or as an option? Its like I said in the video, the wood be it 1/4" or 3/8" is not strong enough to have several ports cut into them, it will definitely compromise the structure. Peace!

i know that and you know that, but dj's do not listen to anyone, you probably know that. So i made that list. I do latin weddings and birthdays and one dj who is a big deal on the internet thinks bachata and cumbia are the same style of music/dance I tried to explain to him that they are different but of course he doesnt listen. So i know most djs are stubborn and think they are right all the time.

Actually modding cases helps in a lot of areas. It cuts down the setup time a lot. It organizes all the mess of wires etc. It looks better. I could go on… these cases are so cheap these days that reselling it doesn’t even matter.

@@DjTomWest I know that they are relatively inexpensive 200-500 dollars, but instead of tossing it into trash dumpster, would it be better to use that money for Netflix or Hulu Plus. Right now I'm selling a couple untouched cases on eBay, they have lot of views but if I modded them, frankly nobody would buy them. I think if you organized your cables in a manner that works efficiently you wouldnt need to mod the cases. But thats for another day. Thanks for your opinion.

@@oldschooldjernie my main reason is the time it cuts down for setup and strike down. It’s interesting to hear all the way DJs look at their gear. Do you use a road case and just leave it as is?

If you need ports just do a patch panel in the front so youre not drilling into the case

Thats what my brother said when he went to Vegas and gambled away $3,000 TRUE STORY: I once thought that and bought an El Camino truck when I first started to dj. Everyone said don't buy that. I didnt listen. It turned out to be the biggest money pit i ever owned and even had dj equipment stolen from it while doing gigs. I learned that you have to study up, examine things or end up being stupid. Peace!

I've been there and the quick and easy solution is to not have everything and the kitchen sink inside your coffin. For example, wireless mics? Nah but them in a separate case. External mixer? Nah put it in a soft bag. And so forth. You start looking like some old lady with everything she carries in her purse. Plus the case becomes lighter and easier to deal with. Peace!

@@oldschooldjernie I use CDJS and rhe 900nxs2. The reason for my modification is, the case is just too narrow in the rear. All the wires are touching the back of the case. The patch panel mounts help from damaging the equipment. Whoever designed this case, couldn't have been a DJ.
