Very creative and inventive idea... and expertly executed. Funny that you just now did this project with PVC. I recently finished assembling and spray painting a new hail deflector to cover my kitchen skylight using PVC pipe and fittings. It’s all painted up and waiting for me to attach the galvanized hardware cloth using stainless steel zip ties. Great stuff, that PVC. 👍👍
Hey Mr Bowman... a hail deflector is probably a good idea with hail season on its way! Not sure the technical differences but the white plastic fence post in the video is described as vinyl on the labeling. I even bought a couple tubes of vinyl adhesive since PVC cement like plumbers use doesn't work on it. At some point I'll do another organizer design and glue parts together in it rather than add wood with screws. PVC is handier because the cement fuses it together and I've yet to see how well vinyl adhesive works by comparison. I'd rather use square PVC 'pipe' but wasn't able to find it with a LOT of searching. Great stuff for sure though! Best, Matt

I really like the way you have organized your shop, I have noticed that the better a place is organized the better the job is overall.
I really like the idea, all you need is a little cabinet to store the organisers in and you're laughing! 100x100mm PVC posts are a bit hard to come by in Oz, but 100x50mm downpipe's easy to find and I think that would work better for me. I generally don't load up drawers anyway - I just get what I need most of the time. Cut them small and turn them up 90 deg and you have removable boxes! Cheers for the inspiration.

Great presentation, all those nice finishing touches that separate a craftsman from someone who hacks wood, screws and glues it together and tells the neighbour he’s a carpenter. 👍🏼and subscribed.
That’s a brilliant design!!! I think it’s the best storage solution I’ve seen. You can make them however you want plus by using the fence post you save a lot of milling and assembly time. Quick and easy.
just found you best idea for storage shure wouold stack better than coffee cans the idea viewers have about hinge lids is great got on your subscription list too

i work for a vinyl fence company and we have tons of 12"-24" 4x4 and 5x5 that we trash every day. this is a great idea. now i can finally put those cut-offs to good use. thanks for sharing

Great idea! The only thing I can add is using a lengthwise spacer when making your first lengthwise cut to prevent the pvc from pinching the blade and gouging your kerf. I used to make bird feeders out of all my pvc post cut offs, squirrels hated them because they couldn’t eat through the walls and dump the seeds out, but this is definitely a great and unlimited way to utilize them!
Nice idea. If you rounded the back lids and drill holes and install the lids to swing up and stay with the container.
Probably the best idea I've seen and easy to build on to incorporate in A LOT of other areas!
Brilliant. I have some scrap large vinyl square tubing that has been an eyesore around the shop I didn't quite want to throw away, but now here is a perfect re-purposing project for that material.

Hey SwankeyMonkey... first time I made these I had access to hundreds of square vinyl tubing scrap pieces and figured they HAD to be good for something too. These are superb storage boxes. I cut my storage space in half switching to these from peanut butter jars. Adding labels to the front makes it easy to grab the right container the first time. Thanks.
On my organizers similar to yours, I take a quick picture of the contents with my I-phone, print it out the size of the container, laminate it and hot glue it to the top. That way you can see what's in the container without opening it. It is really easy to find what you're looking for.

The timing of this video was serendipitous to be sure. I was just thinking to myself that I need to organize my screw shelf because the variety of screw boxes stacked on it was a bit unsightly to me. I didn't really want to build a new cabinet to store them, and the portability of these containers has me excited to have my screws on my assembly table without worrying about getting them all over the place. And I just checked the measurements on my shelf, and I'll be able to stack these 5 wide and 3 high going off of the specifications you provided in this video. Thank you so much for all the amazing content you provide. It really makes a huge difference for a hobbyist like myself. Anything that improves efficiency in my workshop, greatly motivates me to keep building and creating unique gifts for my friends and loved ones.

I did a deck this summer and had like a 3 foot piece of that stuff left over. I could not throw it away because I knew I could use it for something. Thanks for this idea...and for the videos which are so darned entertaining.
I use a grease pen for the label so if the contents changes it's easy to wipe off and re label. No sticky residue

Matt, you've solved a problem for me! I retired 2 weeks ago and started on organizing and downsizing. Last year we replaced our circa 1960s kitchen with stained custom made kitchen cabinets (not a fan of white kitchen cabinets) granite countertops, etc. etc.. Well all the contents of the cabinets, specifically the spices went back in more disorganized than before. I was looking for some commercial product to use. Well, I thought I'd build something, after all I have tools and a bit more time to get things done. The stumbling block was what material to use, then I remembered your video on shop storage, so why not use that for kitchen organizers! Thanks again for the idea!
Glad to hear it Dark Delta... it's cool how that worked out! I too use this stuff for drawer organizing trays and think you're really going to like how simple it is. Keep in mind that vinyl fence components come in all sizes... I use 2.5", 4 & 5" cut to different lengths and 'depths' which gives great flexibility for organizing. Best, Matt
Nice idea Matt. My improvement would be to hot glue one of each item to the front divider so that the contents can be "instantly" identified when all containers are stacked on the shelf.

The latest design organizers are portable so check that video out on the next level carpentry Channel page. You'll need some white vinyl adhesive for those organizers but they're another great way to use up all those extra fence posts you have around and get pretty well organized at the same time... WOW! This is definitely a "must" build project. The creativity is through the roof and the portability is a major plus. May I suggest color coded labels on the top cover to identify the contents.
YEAH THIS BRILLIANT!!
Consider to give it different color for every use of it. In example brown for woodscrew, white for stainless steel stuff, yellow for galvanized thing or else depend your wish to make it easier to remember.
After it you can labelling with more spesific detail for its measurement as it size.

Great idea! I would need labels though. I have been using plastic shoe boxes for years now. Each layer is on its own adjustable shelf and each box has a label. You could stack the boxes but sure it is nice to pull out a box with none of the others hindering its removal or placing it back.
Neat! I'd probably add a simple hinge by rounding the back corners of the lids and driving a screw in from each side. I'd loose some of the fancy features - but wouldn't have to fuzz around with the lids...

I'm planning to do one showing the modern angular crown moulding too but it's tough because it's project completion deadline/crunchtime for the next few weeks. This is a great idea. I like that there's a cover. Many organizers are just open bins. They look great when you get them and fill them initially and soon after are filled with sawdust and crud. I'm not a huge fan of white though. I think I would get some rattle can enamel and make them a different color.
As an aside, yeah, plastic goes everywhere. I put blade for my mini (Byrnes) table saw in those CD cases that have the center post. To separate them I cut small rings from pvc pipe on my bigger table saw. Another time I cut some foam in my driveway using my table saw and ended up having to vacuum the foam from my neighbor's yard. :)

Great Idea!! I have trouble remembering what's in drawers and such. With a black magic marker the front can be written on with 1.2.3 sections.
So, two more items to add to the shopping list today at Home Depot so I can sort my nails, screws, nuts, and bolts, and will make a stand from some aluminum channel and 1/8" clear plastic I have laying around from some old posters.
Thank you for sharing, also these will make a nice container for the plans to my RC models, instead of the shabby cardboard tubes they currently reside in.

If you want the ends or dividers to be more permanent, or are going to store something that might spill liquid (stain, dye, etc.), you can use some more of the PVC post (or other vinyl fence parts) instead of wood for dividers; just glue them in place with CA glue. I have friend who is a fencer (mostly farm, but some residential) and he gives me all of his scraps of vinyl (and cedar).
I use empty peanut butter jars and similar containers. They're free, clear, sealable, stackable, and transport well. But I like these too!

You could even add an X divider in the bottom thats half the height then add a box ontop of that which fills in the rest of the height if you need to store smaller things :)
