Weihrauch HW57 is a rifle that has been on the market for many years. So, it was time for me to take a closer look at Weihrauch’s smallest underlever cocking rifle. By the end of this review and after watching my video, you will probably know if the rifle is suitable for you.

After having had a hw77 old model stock in .177
Hw77 new model stock, high comb(can't use it with iron sigths) in .22
    Hw50 .177
    I now have the hw57 in .22!
I always was to cheap to buy a new one, couldn't find an used one in .22 so bougth a new 1, sold all the weihrauchs.
Liked the other weihrauchs but i wanted something in .22, usable iron sigths and underlever.
The loading gate is fine for me, some people say it will break, so will the piston seal in time.
At least you don't have to put your fingers inside the loading gate, anti beat traps can break to you know. And i think i can seat pellets better in the 57.
People need to start loving the hw 57, accurate, compact, iron sigths. What's not to love?

    Another great review
This rifle is mostly ignored in the UK. Probably the least popular of the Weihrauch range. Always struck me as a underlever version of the break barrel HW99S ( think its marketed as a 50 in Europe). A rifle I truly regret selling on.

HW 57 are very good, I think it's people prejudging them cos of the pop up breech, they see that and think it's gonna be a problem without having even shot one. I saw on a forum there were people advising to get a Gamo CFX over a HW57, I couldn't believe my eyes, no one in their right mind would pick any Gamo over it's Weihrauch equivalent, except if cost is an issue but it's better to save or buy a used Weihrauch.

Thank you for your comprehensive reviews. Also, thanks for the translations to English. Da ich nur wenig Deutsch spreche. I especially like spring powered rifles. I have a HW50S and a Diana 430L. I almost purchased the HW57, however there was considerable negative comments about the tap loader effecting accuracy in early production, so I purchased the 50. Also prefer the ability to use aperture sights with the 50. Again, dankeschön und auf wiedersehen. Fred

Love the look of the rifle, can I ask how you'd clean the barrel?

Another fine review. Quick question for you: How do you go about cleaning the barrel from breech to muzzle? Can the loading port be removed easily in order to do so with a snake? I thought about buying a HW 77, but the weight is a real issue for me if I will be caring it around the farm. How does this 57 compare to the 77 as far as accuracy and velocity? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for the very informative video.

After some thorough research and consideration I have opted to buy the HW57 myself about half a year ago. Indeed cleaning the barrel is a subject that I gave some thought. The HW57 does not have any access at the breech. You cannot remove the loading gate at any time, meaning it is impossible to use a snake. So I use felt pellets. To counter potential damage from dryfire piston bounce I have stuffed a "recommissioned" can of sausages with some rubber foam and an old rag on top. When I want to shoot a feld pellet I push the muzzle firmly into it and then shoot. I trust that this slows the piston down sufficiently. To avoid damage to the finish of the barrel I filed down the inner edge at the top of the can and then taped is with duct tape. This makes basically for a super cheap but very effective DIY "piston bounce break". Every several hundred shots I send through 5 to 8 felt pellets untill they come out clean. Every once in a while, especially when I take a longer break I send through a felt pellet loaded with Ballistol to give the inner barrel an oiling. Of course I send through one or two fry felt pellets before shooting to remove the oil.
The weight is indeed an issue for me too and I personally prefer to shoot the HW57 sniper style from a rest. Mind you I can only use it on my 15 meter range in my attic. If I wanted to carry it around on a farm I would honestly get myself a resting stick. Still, the 57 is less heavy at 3,2 kg vs. the 77 at 4,1 kg, without scope, that is.
Since I don't own the 77 I cannot tell you much about differences there but as far as velocity is concerned just go and check the specs which are freely and easily available online.
Both models really should have virtually the same Weihrauch accuracy. As a german who is limited to the 5,5 ft.lbs/7,5 Joules type, I can tell you that this baby is really spot on at 15 meters, only I don't have access to longer ranges to find where the limits are - unfortunately.

I don,t think you have to hold the leverer back wen load! Just pusch it back immidiatly and then load a new pellet in it! Same with brakerifle, load before ,when the barrel is just braked and then press the spring! Very safe!
