-TACO & JEEP- Helping a Jeep get out of a sticky situation with Matt's Off Road Recovery!
Matt gave Paul a call where he needed some assistance with a recovery! He needed someone that was great at fabrication to help a jeep out on the trail. Check it out to see if we were able to help get this jeep off the steep hill and on his way again.

Who else is here from Matt’s channel? Love how y’all work together, makes y’all a heck of a team!
Thanks for watching!
I am!
@@jicakejijicakeji7278 Me, too!
Me too! And all because of Trailmater (Rory).
Love y’all’s teamwork!
You pull off one miraculous recovery on the side of a mountain, and suddenly everyone wants you to do theirs, too! 👍
The usual reward for a hard job well done is a harder job.
Ed: "I'm gonna have to start eating goat food."...lol...
Isn’t he the best?!😂
Yep, Ed's on top with the profound comments!
I had thought he said "dog food"! either way, funny!
"i'm using 6011 so I should be able to weld dirt to it" my favorite quote so far. Love the channel, keep the videos coming!
I wouldn’t have even bothered to knock the flux off the weld for an emergency repair! Your technique and skill shine through even through the bad emergency situation. For non structural, 6011. For general use 6011 or 7018. One needs to trust the knowledge and skill of the welder to properly select. If it worked, it was a success! Clean up your field mess and move on! Job done!
Classic roadside repair with all the luxuries. It reminds me of a weld repair I saw my father do once. Back in the late 60's we did a trip around Australia and were in the mid north of WA when the tow coupling on the caravan broke apart. The roads were miserable with coregations and it was a good 170 miles back into somewhere with electricity {between Newman and Wittenoom from memory}. Not wanting to abandon the van in the desert Dad repaired the coupling by welding it back together. We didn't have a welder, rods, grinder or a generator other than what was on the Patrol. He managed to file a weld prep and used some thick wire coat hangers wrapped up with newspaper hooked up to 3 12 volt batteries in series. He used the jumper leads with the clamp as the stinger. That improvised rod welded that cast steel trailer coupling back together so well that there was no apparent bend on it when we got to a welder and much further still until he was able to source another coupling in Broome.
Nice job
I looked up Wittenoom, crazy stories there about the asbestos mining!
@@webfreakz Yeah they used to dress the roads with the mine tailings. It is a no go area today.
As a retired welder and welding inspector my hats off to your dad. I have used coat hangers to gas weld an exhaust pipe but never tackled cast iron with it. And rumor has it that newspaper was the very first gas shield used in arc welding.
Your dad sounds like the original Macgyver! Hats off to him!
@@billietyree6139 Im pretty sure it was cast steel not iron. I also wouldn't be surprised if the coat hangers hadn't been made from war surplus welding wire as a lot of stuff like that went on post war in Australia. He wasn't a welder by trade though he was a Diesel Mechanic.
I've watched countless of your videos. Seeing Ed brings a smile to my face every time. He reminds me of some real people I once knew. Stay safe on your recovery's and keep the grate footage coming 🇺🇸
Talk about improvising. Pretty impressive guys. Well done!!
Thanks for watching!
You two make a good team. Nice to have equipment that you can take with you for repair work!
Piece o cake 😆
Skill and ingenuity;
And I also couldn’t help but appreciate the hundreds of inventions present.
Everything from 4WD, winch, welder, tools, lights, clothing, gear... we’ve come a long way in 100 years
FabRats it is amazing what you did, how you did it and the tools that you used! Can you just imagine the guy who scrapped that welder if he watched your videos? Well done!
Thanks for your kind words! You’re awesome!
"If you promise not to get me, I can hold this pretty steady..."
"Is this precarious?"
"Yes"
😀😀 the dialogues are hilarious... 😀 as always when Matt and Paul work together...
“Whoever planted this cactus here is a real jerk…” 🤣🤣🤣
Love the fire department shirt! 20+ years EMS here. Thank you for what you do.
Pauls been a volunteer firefighter in our little town for about 18 years now!👍🏻 Thanks for all you do as well! It’s people like you that keep this world turning!
Great job!!! I love these collaboration recoveries. Matt's version is the whole thing and then Paul's version are the details and the stuff Matt's crew doesn't pick up. Makes for awesome videos.
Thanks for watching!! We try to make the same situation as different as we can. 👍🏻
I’m still trying to figure out what exactly broke on that jeep, was it the control arm mount to the top of the differential?
Matt: “He says we can’t get in front of him”. The customer clearly doesn’t know Matt.
nor the capabilities of Matt's banana 😜
Customer: You can’t get in front of me
Matt: Hold my beer
Didnt even know this channel existed. Just finished watching Matts version, more of the best recovery (IMO)! New subscriber for sure! Awesome guys!
Welcome!
I subbed too, looks like you guys are on a roll with subs... So cool to see both versions of the recovery.
Don't forget Casey's channel
@@orale_vato What's the name of that channel? Link?
what an incredible rescue Paul! That looked sketch as all get out, and you guys made that work. so awesome!
You've got bigger cajones than me getting under that rig with just a high-lift holding it up, but way to get er done.
What? You thought those were watermelons in his pockets?
The best part of all of this is your both raising your kids to know the work and the payoff. Respect...
It's not about money. It's about passion. You can hear it in their voices. Good job guys!
You guys need to have your own show on Discovery Channel. Great work.
Now that was some beautiful minds working together once again! ✌🐢
As always, thanks for watching!
You guys are awesome. You made that recovery look easy ( most of us know less knowledgeable
people probably would have lost the jeep ) .
Great job Paul, you and Matt make a great team. Just love watching you build stuff and your Fabrication skills are just awesome.
I really enjoy the different camera angles showing how steep that hill is and the different perspectives , that was a cool rescue !!
Once again awesome teamwork👊🏻 Using the resources to the fullest on the side of a mountain, that was awesome. Great job to everybody out there.
Thanks for watching!
You guys make an awesome team!! Job well done. 😎 Noticed the fire department T-shirt so thanks for your selfless service to our country.
Looks like fun !!! Dump welder just paid for itself 3 times!
With your fabrication skills, plus BOTH vehicles involved with this recovery, i'm betting this was an EXPENSIVE recovery bill!
Another sphincter tightening adventure with Matt's off road recovery
The off road crowd is lucky that someone is even available to rescue them in situations like this. Not every area has people with the skills and equipment to get this done. Hats off to the boys for getting people out of the pickles they like to get into.
We certainly don't have anyone here in Arkansas on this skill level to rescue us from our poor offroad decisions and unfortunate mishaps. And we have some seriously sketchy trails here as well.
You guys earned every penny and some on this job that welder was well worth the money they don't come up very often at that price .
Good recovery guys! Looks like some awesome terrain to explore 👍 Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!!
Great job crew! Paul, looks like you need to devise a way to bolt down the welder & maybe attach a vise to the edge of the bed of your truck. Or build one a vise that slides into the hitch.
Congratulations guys, saving the situation, Paul Fab Rat, Matt Widens and the whole group, you're doing a Fantastic job.
Wow, this is what America is about. Great job guys. Take care and be safe out there.
Thanks for watching!
You both work together as a great team. So much fun to watch you both together.
Paul you and Matt work really good together,I don’t think there is any job you guys can’t handle with in reason. Love watching you guy’s working together.☺️☺️☺️👍👍👍
Great job Paul, just watched this on Matt’s channel, I love it when you guys team-up🥰
I miss fabbing and improvising stuff, getting too old these days, but there was plenty of it going on in my teens in the 70s...🤣
Greetings from a Brit in Romania 👍🏻🇷🇴🇬🇧
Thanks for watching!
Ain’t it great to be young, when NOTHING is impossible? You guys (Paul & Matt & Company) are the best in the West! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching!
Out of no where a new video surfaces, a year old but never saw it. Of course it was a darn good one and Ed was there to top it off. A man of few words is entertaining.
Job well done. I'm glad you're always there for Matt when he needs your help. Keep up with the good work and also to your Cameraman for doing an awesome job filming the recovery.
He’s our 15 year old son. Little shaky at times, but he gets it done!
Enjoy watching matt and you working and having fun with family!
Great people. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Kind of looks like you guys are just out having fun. The things you have to do for people out having a good time. Thank goodness for people like you and Matt to help them out of the situations we all eventually find ourselves in. Great job and great video.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job on the weld Paul less than ideal location, I would be looking at everything but the work loved the scenery. Nice job on camera work also. Glad you all made it out safe and sound.
Thanks for watching!
Hurricane is such a great location to be running out of. Great coffee at River Roastiung too! And Zion.
Two Bad asses that dont try to Alpha male each other. Fab Rats, MORR and Vice Grip Garage are easily the best channels on YT if youre into this type content! I love all of your families and values!😃😃❤️❤️
Good Fab work Paul on the side of the mountain.
Another great video guys! Epic recovery! Amazing country, impressive driving, and some trailside fabrication 😎
Thanks for watching!
1:50 “He says we can’t get in front of him...” little does he know...
5:15 Matt’s wheelin’ his Jeep... 🤣👍🏻🇷🇴🇬🇧
The "Best of the Best". Great job Paul.
Thanks for watching!
You guys took an IMPOSSIBLE situation , and handled it.....100% PRO'S!!
Thanks for watching!
The things you guys do simply amaze me !!! Salute !
Love Zion. I used to live in Mona UT. Wish I never moved out to the pac N. West. Got grate 4 by trails out here. But. You got to have a key to get past the gates. It sucks. Land of the fre home of the brave is gone. The logging co. have all the land bought up.
YOUR CREW SHOULD TRAIN ARMY ENGINEERS...THIS IS HOW THEY START..RECOVERY SPECIALIST!!
Wow
love all the collaboration you folks have with matts...your fabrication skills are something i have never seen rofl...but i guess necessity breeds results ? you guys are awsome...oh and cool shop dog :)
Outstanding job gentlemen!
Thanks for watching!
More interesting enough, we now can go from Matt's channel to Fab rats, or vise versa ...👍✌️. Solid axle Toyota is set up nice .
Having just the one Like icon doesn't cut it with a video this good. 👍👍👍👍👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Top comment came from Ed again when asked if this was the craziest thing he'd done today. 'I'll have to start eating goat food'.
Love that guy! Thanks for watching!
Fabrication Rodents who knew? So much great stuff. Gnarly Yota, the endless searching for where you left your gloves/tools. Recovery adventures by brothers from different mothers. You and Matt seem to work really well together. Wonder how you first met up and realized what you had. That sum is greater than the individual parts thing. Makes me want to go get stuck in some remote Utah location just to have to call you guys to be able to watch you do your thing....
Thanks for watching!
I love when Matt and his crew work together with Paul to do some of the hardcore recovery videos. It’s nice to have Michelle’s expertise on the backside of the camera, but too many negative comments have caused her to retreat to the house, but I would like to see her out in the shop more often, and maybe even out on these kinda trail recoveries…
Hope that’s not the reason they using a cameraman. Was hoping she busy with the business side.
13:22 I was wondering about the engine running at such a steep angle! You need to fabricate a mount that can articulate for hill-side welding! 🤣 PS, new subscriber from Matt's channel!
Thanks for the tip and welcome!!
You know you're getting waaaaay out in the weeds when you have to build a gimbal setup to mount your mobile welding equipment (the odds are against you finding one on Amazon!) in the back of your truck!!! ;^)
I've been Zion National Park back in 2011. It's a beautiful place!! I moved to St, George in 2011 unfortunately I was only able to live there for 4 months Before I had to move back to Michigan..
The music you used at the 3-minute mark reminds me of those Black Exploitation movies or the Shaft- like movies of the mid 1970s. It is the right type of music. You are on a mission and danger is lurking!
Well you had some great scenery to work in. Great job on that recovery. If Matt ever finds who planted that cactus on that rock, watch out!
“Don’t get killed by that handy man”, not the first or last time that will be said.
Probably not!
I liked the next question....
Paul; "is this precarious"
Matt; "Yes". LOL
You know if you guys stop think about what you're doing it would never get done...GREAT WORK EVERYONE INCLUDING ED 😜 ...👍👍👍
Love the fire department shirt! 20+ years EMS here. Thank you for what you do.
Unbefrinkinlievable. Paul you have more nerve than a mountain goat. Working under that truck on the side of a hill was spectacular. I'm pretty sure the "safety inspector" would have red tagged the entire work site and everyone out there. Great job.
Did you learn to be a mechanic in a mine? I’ve seen guys laying in muck working on graders, dozers and loaders doing that kind of repair. Good work!
Never worked in a mine, just never had a shop til about 7 years ago. So the dirt was his shop floor.😉
8:28 was a thing to see you see how Ed’s face lit up when they asked him for his opinion
13:09: Quality control sez the "eye-crometer" has brought the workpiece "within spec."
Flippin phenomenal teamwork y'all!!
You guys are awesome
Awesome job Paul ......and on the side of a mountain..........Sheesh....!!
I am a firm believer in the only bolts on a multi link suspension are the ones that go through the bushings. Everything else needs to be welded. There have been cases where adjustable control arm jam nuts have loosened and the bushing joints rip clean out of the threaded control arms.
Amazing job, Paul. Well done.
I was expecting one of those lunchbox trail welders. You brought a bazooka to a knife fight. I’d rather have a bazooka anytime.
You’re the best friend a guy could ever want.
I just finished watching Matts, you guys a Legends of recoverys. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A great example of people taking their rigs where they have NO idea or clue WTF they are doing !!
Another great recovery job guys !!!
Thanks for watching!
Good job man. A bunch different than laying on a creeper in the shop on a flat piece of concrete!
I noticed you referred that jack by its proper name: "HANDYMAN"! I grew up on a farm with one of those. They were "handy"; they pulled posts, stretched wire fencing, straightened bent frames, served as winches (a little slow!), etc. But they were dangerous! Ever have one 'runaway' when going down? The handle would go crazy as the jack ratcheted down on its own. Dad taught me early to have a healthy respect for that jack, and NEVER trust it.
Man, I love that yota
Good job, Paul and crew.
Beautiful view around the back yard Paul .
Fab Rats ROCKS! Incredible recovery
Wow!, that was impressive!
It's amazing what you guys get up to .... and what you think of.
I will never get to see this in my lifetime so thank you so much for this tour. Loving your chanel. Old Georgia girl here.
Thanks for watching!
Wow. I love your prospective on this adventure
You are marvelous guys.
Hope you get this on such an old video. I used to work at a welder repair shop. One guy brought one in like yours but a Miller. He had a angle iron piece welded to the front with a nut welded to that. With a very long like one inch bolt in it. I asked what that was for. He said he sometimes very on steep inclines. That is to help level his welder out so it runs right. Also said. I do not bolt the welder down, just use straps so it comes out faster. That bolt is to bring it back to level. Cool beans. That is you an idea Paul. I know, more jobs to do.
That was a FABulous recovery with some great innovation, hill side FABrication, and skill to pull it off. Great team work also and a very entertaining video, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for watching!
That was a great job all round, well done.
Great Job guys!
Your work is incredible, keep up the good work
Unbelievable, you guys are so skilled and dedicated!
I would love to get into wheeling but would not go unless you were on my team for just such a situation great job!!!!
We natives really do need to stop and enjoy what seams so common every day stuff. Can't even imagine what it would be like if all i saw driving down a road and on each side , back and front was another building.
Good work Paul!👍
wow that was nuts...
I was the kid just walking around, no seriously it’s my dads Jeep
