I know quite a few versions of this jazz standard that have been recorded over the past 90 years, but this is one of the best in my opinion. If you close your eyes, you feel 70 years back in a jam session at a New York jazz club where Ella Fitzgerald is performing with good friends. Andrea Motis' improvisations on the trumpet are timelessly fantastic, and of course this also applies to the other musicians. It doesn't get any better, I'm really excited!
Thank you Dieter. We greatly appreciate the help. With these contributions we can continue to do our work with youth and jazz. New Cd's and new videos. Thanks a lot !!! ❤️❤️
Brilliant version of this song!! I loved the 2 handed piano solo by Sullivan and Ignasi. Great vocals and an interesting combination of 2 tempos. Gracias, Joan
what a wonderful collaboration. You can see the respect and the love the musicians have for their respective work... I love both singers - and this piece is great: the piano duo very playful (would have made Fats Waller proud), the relentless rythm section, and the playful singers (love how Andrea punctuates her phrasing in 6:41! - our princess of syncopation!)
Can't get much done once you get sucked into an a.m. sitting, I have my anthem "Triste" when the girls were real young saved on my start page. Burned a lot of toast, but can't look away. You understand.
Crusin' down the highway foot hard on the pedal (that's how I got my last 230.00 dollar ticket at my advanced age). Good the pace slowed with the calming influence of Cecile - everyone needed a break. Great one everybody. That's jazz in the fast lane and into the parking lot at the end.
English is my native language, and there's no way I can sing that song as fast as Andrea can in that first verse (but then, I'm not a musical genius like she is, either).
This version is mighty fast - 20% faster than another, more "laid back, fancy hat" version from Marseille, 2017! No wonder that Andrea has thoughts of her own... After her first vocal part, she gets into organizing the tempo change from 1:05, instructing Esteve, Cecile, Josep, Joan until 3:00... (pianists don't need instructions, apparently!) At 4:30, she conducts the tempo change - leading to a wonderful version that I will notice whenever it will come up to me!
Very original version of Honey Suckle Rose. Andrea takes the initiative these days, after all it's now "The Andrea Motis Quintet." I remember a concert in Orrius, a picturesque but difficult to get to village outside Barcelona, last July. We arrived early and spent the time at the swimming complex as advised by her father Ramon. On returning to the concert venue in the church courtyard, we heard the beautiful sound of a trumpet reverberating amongst the surrounding hills in the crystal clear evening air. It was Andrea, trying out new combinations with the quintet (Joan was absent) and directing operations, all in a very relaxed atmosphere. We were allowed to stay and listen. The concert, 2 hours later was magnificent, pity no videos posted on RUclips. Early next morning Andrea flew out to the USA and Stanford.
@@ferreiraronald7873 I've long been noticing her efforts to conduct, at times quieting Joan ;) Of course, she's gaining authority with every year and each show - she's a genuine pro now!
ANDREA O’DAY!!! This is Incredible. The Great Anita O’Day is looking down from Heaven with a big smile on her face! ANITA’s Honeysuckle: ruclips.net/video/BFwVtlc6CGE/видео.html . ANDREA, you are an UNBELIEVABLE Trumpet & Sax player (what a Sound and God-given improvisational Genius you have on both, which blows my mind, plus the most perfect & driving Lead Alto section work ever - AND, you make it look Sooooo Easy!), but when you Sing, to me you are ANITA O’DAY II. “Honeysuckle Rose” - Anita always said it was her most requested and favorite song. GO ANDREA = ANITA II !!
Although no Bria Skonberg or (even more) Shaye Cohn, I much prefer Andrea Motis 'trumpet to her vocals. I never understood (and I saw her live a number of times ) why so many people have a high opinion of Cecile McLorin Salvant ! She is of American ascent and colored, but she never swings, ande most of the time (not the case here) she likes painfully slow tempos.
Cecile is colored? Oh thanks, I hadn't noticed. By the sound of it (comparing performers to Shaye Cohn?) you're relatively new to jazz vocal stylings. It may seem to you that Cecile isn't swinging but Lord knows why. Here, she just casually dances circles around the rhythm like she owns the lyrics. Andrea's not nearly there yet, hewing to the beat too carefully. She's clearly more confident on trumpet...we agree on that. Take a listen to Sarah Vaughn sometime. That was my early education, and bar-setting experience. Cecile more than acquits herself in such a comparison.
MARVELOUS!!! WONDERFUL!!! THIS IS PURE JAZZ!!! Thank you so much to share it!!!

Wow! What a great performance. It is clear that Andrea Motis has also become an effective leader at such a young age. Bravo to you all!
At 24, a "veteran" of 13 years, with such tremendous energy - nothing else to expect!

Cécile McLorin Salvant -- what a voice!
Andrea's voice and trumpet chops are wonderful! The whole ensemble is great, I would love to have been there, maybe someday.

I wonder what did Andrea say to each of the band and how all of them can play so good and talk about something at the same time.
I think she said Lets slow it down for Cecile....
The music is in their blood.
