I just finally saw "The Wrestler"-what an amazing piece of art that was. Rourke's performance is one of the best of the decade...Aranofsky captured the feel of the business.
I really like that you said that, but I still feel that for the most part wrestlers actually don't get the respect they deserve. I still constantly hear people rip wrestlers aparts and insult the profession. Worst part is these people don't even know what they're talking about. They aren't fans, they're just haters. I don't watch wrestling anymore but I will always have the utmost respect for these athletes. They're warriors who put their bodies on the line for us and I love them for that.
I haven't watched since the Attitude Era ended but now that I am 40 I still admire pro wrestlers and love reminiscing on the glory days. I love seeing those who struggled get their lives back together with help from a great man like Dallas.
this reminds me of the prime time wrestling show, where hillbilly jim, mr perfect, and mcmahon would sit at a roundtable discussion and talk about developing feuds...
one of the best movies i have seen in many years...he makes you care for the character and it keeps you totally absorbed throughout...Mickey deserves the oscar as well as the golden globe he won....if you want more Rourke at his best see "spun" great flick.
Sorry Guys...I'm "Old School" And I Still Remember The "Chain-Match" That The "Destroyer" And Freddie Blasse Had Back In The 60's. It Was The First Time I Witnessed My Stoic Dad Get Excited Over A Wrestling Match. My Dad & I Bonded That Night At The "Olympic Auditorium" In L.A. And When We Arrived Home...He Was Like A Teenager Telling Mom About The Night. God Bless You All For Making A Night "Magical"
When they are out of contract they can stop Pretending it is real. Make no mistake though these guys from yesterday and today are real athletes. They use their athletic ability to entertain us and it is awesome.
every professional wrestler deserves respect. the film is a piece of art. what Roddy Piper said reminds me of interviews referring to Ultimate Warriors character, everybody who met him claimed that he was unprofessional and not gentile.
This should have been in one video, not in five parts. These now retired wrestlers had some comments about Mickey Rourke's movie that were so exceptional and worth listening to that it was disruptive to their conversation end with closing credits popping up abruptly. Since I am a pro wrestling fan, this movie The Wrestler is a must see.
youre probably a child who was crawling around in your crib when most of these guys were at the top of the game. all five of these guys were steady household names and still are apart of 80's/90's pop culture.
agreed... when i was looking around the table i was like ok... where the heck is piper? ddp was a wrestler i haven't seen in ages... also eddie's brother i dident know was wrestling for TNA which was a big shocker to me. To see his brother and to remember eddie... they are almost identical.
That "Joke" put more asses in seats than most people. A booker or promoter can only push you so much. Either you can get over with the crowd or you can't.
You gotta be kiddin me...Piper was and is a bigger star, without world titles...Greg Valentine and Beefcake, the Dreamteam...You obviously don't know you're history. Luger, I'll give ya he was a talentless bag of muscles
if you haven't seen wrestling in japan you haven't seen what it can be at it's best not to say other countries dont deliver but japan have some insane athletes over there
some people like to believe in things that arnt true thats just the way it is, lex didnt kill that girl. her death was a fatal accident but that just wont ever be put up with by some people i guess. im glad to see that lex is doing well and he looks good to. im also happy to see that some people out there like yourself can look at lex and see the good in him not just the bad
Plain and simple fellas. When you watch a 100% real Knock out in a highlight reel, it takes a lot of the appeal out of a rehearsed suplex. And that my friends is why MMA will continue to grow bigger and better.
@Jacksiin1 DDP was friends with Eric but it was actually the opposite he never really gave DDP a push until the end of his career and DDP had guys like Flair trying to hold him down, DDP's a legend
What does it matter if it's not real? Movies are not real and yet you find them entertaining right? I mean when you see a fight scene in a movie are you thinking, "this is fake garbage."? The Pro Wrestling business has not tried to hide the fact that wrestling is staged for some time now. Hence the term "Sports Entertainment".
@Jacksiin1 To his credit, though, DDP really did bust his ass to make himself a decent worker/talker, as opposed to Luger or Beefcake. Around '98, the only guy I looked forward to watching on Nitro was DDP.
Losing muscles has nothing to do with steroids. You lose muscle mass as soon as you cut down on your food and gym time. Your body burns up muscle tissue before it burns up fat, so if you retire or take a break from the gym you lose a lot of muscle
If it's so fake, (and yes I know the matches are planned out ahead of time and the moves are choreographed) how do you explain the blow-out knees, shoulders, necks, and all of the injuries these guys suffer from "faking it"? It's fake to a point. But they put their bodies on the line just as much, if not more than any professional athlete does.
@miamimagicians I think Angle has done more for the sport then luger and Bryan Danielson is arguably one of the best independent wrestlers of all time...
I don't know, but I can't see how you can fake those kind of injuries & pain over the course of a 300+ day schedule every year for God knows how many years.Boxers & UFC fighters train hard in their 1 month off in between fights, obviously, but rarely do they fight more than once a month and are paid astronomically;at least the main event level fighters are, anyway.
is not a question of being fake or not....Wrestling is cool!! and in case you havent seen mexican wrestling...is some kind of ART!! of course UFC is much more real...and i share your opinion on wrestling...you just have to see wrestling like a sport not as a real advantage to kick ass!! Just chill and enjoy. And if you dont enjoy...then just change the channel...
Wow! Between Piper, Beefcake, Paige, Valentine, and Luger the bad hair dye jobs are running rampant in this segment! "Just For Men" should sponsor this clip! LOL
Are you sure about that? A 10 year old girl who knows karate would die. She wouldn't even have enough arm strength to throw a hard punch. She would get picked up and tossed to the ground. One punch from a weak and unskilled 15 year old would knock her unconscious. A ten year old girl fighting Brock Lesnar would be in a coma very quickly.
@nexivdr Just an opinion... When it comes to the 20 + years of watching Wrestling im sorry but I just was never a fan of Luger... Sorry if thats your guy... He isnt mine lol
Well he did have a domestic dispute arrest a few months before the overdose death, where Elizabeth suffered some minor facial injuries (cuts, bruises, etc.), but as far as investigators could tell, no foul play was involved in the latter. Both seemed to be on heavy drugs, as police found large amounts of illicit drugs and steroids. Those practices probably led to the violent dispute earlier. Flair, Austin, Hogan, Savage, and others have had semi-violent relationship troubles. Savage w/ Liz
wow, u guys r crazy. The only part about wrestling thats fake is those puches and kicks; u c them stoomp the floor when they do it, but jumping off the top of the ring and getting put into submissions and just all those stunts they do, its dangerous and complex, and not to mention their physiques!
im not a fan of wrestling but its still coreography and thats adsactly what all movie fights that everyone thinks are so badass are just coreography...
age, and when you go to the top of the mountain with a body he had there is only one place you can go, but down. As far as talent Roddy Piper, and Greg Valentine drew money. The rest sucked. Luger didn't and couldn't do anything without teh ridiculous push WCW gave him and he failed to draw in WWF. Beefcake or the Bootyman or Zodiac is terrible. Never had a good match and is just known for being a friend to hogan.
Roddy Piper and DDP are great men. I am sorry that Piper passed so young. The Wrestler is such a dark and beautiful film.
I just finally saw "The Wrestler"-what an amazing piece of art that was. Rourke's performance is one of the best of the decade...Aranofsky captured the feel of the business.
Rest in peace RRP.
I really like that you said that, but I still feel that for the most part wrestlers actually don't get the respect they deserve. I love hearing these guys speak so intelligently about the art of entertainment. They ARE artists. Rowdy Roddy Rules!
R.I.P. Rowdy Roddy! You were my all time favorite.
Thanks to the OP for posting this.
I love that old school pro wrestlers are giving this movie 2 thumbs up.
The table isn't even round. 2/10
wrestling fan
It's the squared circle...
This sounds like a really cool movie. I hope DDP decides to wrestle again soon.
BANG!!!!
wow i used to watch all these guys as a kid its cool to see these guys
Excellent insight from guys who lived the life and the business. The movie was incredible as well.
this reminds me of the prime time wrestling show, where hillbilly jim, mr perfect, and mcmahon would sit at a roundtable discussion and talk about developing feuds...
one of the best movies i have seen in many years...he makes you care for the character and it keeps you totally absorbed throughout...Mickey deserves the oscar as well as the golden globe he won....if you want more Rourke at his best see "spun" great flick.
beefcake and valentine were tag champs at one time. good to see them together again.

I enjoy seeing legends of wrestling sitting around the table and carrying a confersation. Good Times !
One of the best movies I've ever seen...
When they are out of contract they can stop Pretending it is real.
Make no mistake though these guys from yesterday and today are real athletes. They use their athletic ability to entertain us and it is awesome.

lol roddy piper is probably the greatest heel of all time
nice
Thank u for the upload
Thanks, friend.
youre probably a child who was crawling around in your crib when most of these guys were at the top of the game. all five of these guys were steady household names and still are apart of 80's/90's pop culture.

Hot Rod Cleans up well!!!
The Hollywood snobs may make Rourke job come oscar time
Only Dallas & Rowdy could speak as wrestlers as well as actors.
That "Joke" put more asses in seats than most people. A booker or promoter can only push you so much. Either you can get over with the crowd or you can't.
well they are brothers after all and definitely see the similarities. his brother did commentating and managed lax, but never see the dude wrestle.
Was more curious to hear what greg valentine thought
@itamhoe In your opinion, which one has the "edge"-Beyond The Mat or the Wrestler?
Besides popularize the cutter?
Christ Hot Rod, you sound like a college professor.
You gotta be kiddin me...Piper was and is a bigger star, without world titles...Greg Valentine and Beefcake, the Dreamteam...You obviously don't know you're history. Luger, I'll give ya he was a talentless bag of muscles
wich is the name of the song and of the band that play in the end of this video?!
if you haven't seen wrestling in japan you haven't seen what it can be at it's best not to say other countries dont deliver but japan have some insane athletes over there
Roddy Piper's voice is the deepest one in there.
some people like to believe in things that arnt true thats just the way it is, lex didnt kill that girl. her death was a fatal accident but that just wont ever be put up with by some people i guess. im glad to see that lex is doing well and he looks good to. im also happy to see that some people out there like yourself can look at lex and see the good in him not just the bad
rowdy roddy piper sounds like nick nolte when he first starts talking
Wow, Valentine still looks as in 1985!
Yeah he had a close one a while back. He regained the ability to walk only a little while ago.
FOX bottled water?!?!?!?!
.....Disney water
Anyone know what the song in this clip is?
What about Valentine?
mental health ... quiet riot. the first act to usher in the early 80's metal scene.
Roddy sounds like Nick Nolte! :p
Roddy is the man!!! Bring back The Pit!!!
Wait a minute, this table...it isn't round?!
@kjag23 What do you think of Kurt Angle and Bryan Danielson? i THINK THEIR THE BOMB!
Plain and simple fellas. When you watch a 100% real Knock out in a highlight reel, it takes a lot of the appeal out of a rehearsed suplex. And that my friends is why MMA will continue to grow bigger and better.
Why would you want to watch people get guaranteed, for real brain damage?
@Jacksiin1 DDP was friends with Eric but it was actually the opposite he never really gave DDP a push until the end of his career and DDP had guys like Flair trying to hold him down, DDP's a legend
You know in his interview u learn that the wrestler was actually like Mickeys real life...except he was a boxer instead of a wrestler
@kjag23
and brutus beefcake is?
@sayanroy36 That's what I was gonna say! Beefcake only got a job because he was good friends with Hulk Hogan.

Mickey did a good job for a come back.
yes and Body slam with the Tonga Kid Teh wild Samoans and Capt Lou Albano. And if im not mistaken the road warriors
Brutus has got the hookup. he knew Mickey Rourke for a long time brother.
the sound's too low
DDP! Diamond Cutter!
the undertaker= best of all time
Roddy is starting,to sound like Nick Nolte!
Losing muscles has nothing to do with steroids. You lose muscle mass as soon as you cut down on your food and gym time. Your body burns up muscle tissue before it burns up fat, so if you retire or take a break from the gym you lose a lot of muscle
im rooting for mickey

lol look at piper when ddp's talking
R-Truth is in this movie

His voice sounds like Nick Nolte! LOL
@8DieNaFire8 Fans "banged their heads" at QR concerts and wrestlers "bang their heads" inside and outside the ring.
is not a question of being fake or not....Wrestling is cool!! and in case you havent seen mexican wrestling...is some kind of ART!!
of course UFC is much more real...and i share your opinion on wrestling...you just have to see wrestling like a sport not as a real advantage to kick ass!!

Wow, almost all of those guys are dead now.
+giantrobot9000 Oh you're right. I could have sworn Lex Lugar was dead.
Matt Hellmers is Brutus dead now?
Sufjan Joey No, I was just completely wrong.
It's METAL HEALTH
Are you sure about that? A 10 year old girl who knows karate would die. She wouldn't even have enough arm strength to throw a hard punch. She would get picked up and tossed to the ground. he really is?!?!
whos the black guy?
Well he did have a domestic dispute arrest a few months before the overdose death, where Elizabeth suffered some minor facial injuries (cuts, bruises, etc.), but as far as investigators could tell, no foul play was involved in the latter.

LOL ;)
Yeah. Next thing they'll tell us is Santa fake!
someone with the name SMOOCHER is giving lessons on toughness? LMAOROTFLOL!!!
no becuase they are playing real sports
@kjag23 "20 + years of watching Wrestling"
DDP was and always will be a joke. The only reason why he made it big was because he was tight with Eric Bischoff. Roddy Piper is the man, however.
i liek to call them actors not wrestler.
it wont hrnt me jumpong on some sponge mats or springy wrestling rings. thats why its entertainment. not as real as the real thing
wow, u guys r crazy. The only part about wrestling thats fake is those puches and kicks; u c them stoomp the floor when they do it, but jumping off the top of the ring and getting put into submissions and just all those stunts they do, its dangerous and complex, and not to mention their physiques!
and the ring isn't well the shape of a ring lol wrestlers are not good with shapes
omg u didnt kno pro wrestling is fake lol
After what he did to that one chick, he deserves to be paralyzed.
you mean he was jewish (not gentile)?
j/k
im not a fan of wrestling but its still coreography and thats adsactly what all movie fights that everyone thinks are so badass are just coreography...

Im sorry... Lex Luger is not worthy to be at that table in my eyes. He was always awful in the ring...
