the smile on your face when you took it for a test drive was awesome. like a little kid taking his bicycle out for the first time. Can't wait to see more videos of this beauty!
How the hell did you get lucky enough to find a truck that clean?!? The interior is stupid nice. Great find brother looking forward to see what all you find to do with it.
You know your stuff Hunter, that's for sure. My dad was a trucker, I've been driving for 22 years myself. You can tell when you're talking and driving, it all adds up! No BS! Good work! Sparks is lucky to have you as support for sure
Hunter, I am not usually a fan of these types of videos but I was really into this one and your channel. I think its just the genuine, rough, everyday life stuff that is refreshing. You have an interesting life doing all of these different types of trips, picking up different vehicles, etc. It was cool seeing you get that truck you have been looking for, and how excited you were about it. I can't wait to see more updates on it as you fix it up, and restore it (if that is what you plan on doing). Have you considered making a membership on youtube here, or a Patreon? I bet you would get quite a few subscribers (including me) that would want to support you and your content.
Oh man that brings back memories. I rode 300k miles in a 81 Cab Over Freightliner moving furniture across the country. No better trucks for residential areas and 53' trailer lol. Luv this project Hunter luv your vids bud.
Can't wait to see more about your new truck, that thing is sweet! Sounds wicked too! Your adventures hauling back Dave's trash always seems to be interesting! Thanks for bringing us along!
That truck is in great shape, and in my opinion the paint Scheme is pretty cool. If you only paid twenty-five hundred bucks for it. That's not a whole lot above scrap. Good find.

Beautiful old Ford. I drove a LTL9000 for a couple years working for a logging company. It was a 1985 model with a 400 Cummins and a 13 speed. Had 44,000 lb rears and double framed. It was black with aluminum tanks and rims and chrome dual exhaust. When it was clean it was a beautiful truck. Glad you found your dream truck. Not many folks do.
The four airbags on the cab is what made them most of the time look slanted coming coming at you in the opposite lane. How ever they did ride like a dream. I personally when it came to Cab Over's. The Freightliner had the warmest and quietist cab. Living in Northern Canada a worm cab was much appreciated hauling to remote mines. I'm also very impressed by the condition of this tractor.. Good find..
I drove one of them back in the day and the first time you fall into a curve, you might mess up your drawers. That cab does lean with you. Great find!! love them old 3406"s. Miss that rattle. Good luck with it.
First diesel engine I ever worked on was a Cat 3406, I did an inframe on it replacing cylinder sleeves, a couple pistons and the head gasket after the owner blew it up. Those engines are great for making power across the board.
I used to drive one of these and it was one of the most comfortable trucks I’ve ever drove. Had a small TV sitting on the dash on the passenger side and it would reflect off of the back wall of the bunk on to the windshield it was almost like a HUD system you could watch the TV while driving down the road.
1:48 Maybe you can answer a question I have had for several decades.....what is the blue air brake valve used for? I'm not a truck driver but I was a highly trained auto tech @ Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler. I was born in 73 & I remember when I was a vary young kid I had a dealer brochure for I believe GMC commercial vehs(it had to be for late 70's or vary early 80's), in that full size(8.5"x11") brochure was a lg centerfold pic of a trk dashboard, pic covered 2 pages & it had the same 3 air brake controls...yellow, red, blue. I kept, looked & dreamed i was driving that trk for several yrs while leaving that centerfold open, but never knew what the blue control was for, I knew yellow & red back then bc it was written on them, but blue had no writing on it.....sorry for the long question/story, but what was blue for?? Side note, I never knew where that brochure came, neither did anyone in my family, it literally just appeared 1 day.....no one had ever seen it before i found it & it was not mailed out, thats another question ive had, lol. THANKS & cool story of ur TV truckin' days.
NICE SCORE. Yes the Fords Cabovers are getting extremely hard find and most parts are near impossible to get replacements for. That's way kool it has the brushed Aluminiuim gauge bezel and I LOVE That paint scheme. That was a really uncommon one even back then from the factory. Them OLD Pre-1985 Computer ish age Cabovers are the BREAD AND BUTTER. I am hoping too pickup a '81 GMC Astro with a 8v71 and 9spd Spicer. Plan B will be a Mid-50s GMC Cannonball coe.
Nice work mate, i was a bit worried when you were climbing under the cab rather than lifting her, but mate, you displayed your true knowledge so many times here. keep trucking mate, cheers from Australia.

I really miss seeing you with diesel Dave and the crew. However I am super grateful that you have your own channel and starting your own thing. I'll always be here to support you brother, keep up the great work.👍
I've been trucking for almost 50 years and I remember when they were brand new. Boy, the 1st corner I took and that cab rolled over to one side...I thought the whole rig was flipping,,, Great Trucks...Good luck with it...
I love those old CL9000's! I have been looking for that same cab exactly! The bigger sleepers just look better in my opinion. Congrats! I am looking forward to more videos!
Bro your a beast. Not many people would go through all that for someone else’s rigs. I guess that’s why Dave has no problem loaning out his truck to you.
Thanks for the great content, your videos are making me more and more excited for diesel school! Can't wait to start wrenching on diesel trucks, heavy equipment, big rigs, you name it. Hopefully I'll have a shop of my own to fill with all sorts of mechanical goodies. Keep up with the great content thanks.
Hunter i'm a trucker from South west Florida would love it if you could tell us prices on stuff and give any helpful tips on savings its hard out here right now that truck is in good hands no whistling diesel to her for the love of God
That 1981 Ford is exactly like the one I drove in 1981 and 1982. But, it was black with red flames on the exterior. It had Ruby Red Diamond button tucked interior. I got my license in 1979 and drove for a little 5 truck, owner operator company in NC. I was what they called an apprentice or 2nd driver to a lead driver running team. They taught me everything I needed to know to run from Charlotte NC to Pico Riviera / Los Angels, California every week. I loved that truck and the job. After 2 years they bought a new International Transtar II.. for me to drive. But, I missed that four shock ride. I continued to drive and later bought my own Peterbilt 379 and drove it until I retired in 2014. Good luck on your truck and channel.
That thing is awesome. I think with a new paint job in the same colors/scheme, a good polish, maybe a chrome bumper, and a set of twin 5" straight pipes you'll have a very sharp truck. Please don't ruin it with a drop visor or a gaudy bumper. Tapered w/ swing plate is the look. And yes, everything Cat related is expensive lol
CAT announced recently that you can get brandnew 3406 engines from them now. They will accept almost anything as a "core". grab an old cracked 3406 block and get a brandnew 3406E back. All it takes is money.
Idk why I laughed so much that the windshield blew in after you changed the fuel filters lmao this is the first video I’ve watched of yours and I have to say it’s very knowledgeable and enjoyable man keep it up
That Ford is a beaut!!! I cant believe how nice the paint and interior is! Hell, that thing was born the same year as me! Nice find!!! I hope you enjoy!!
The first truck I ever drove in 1980 it was 3 months old, I was 18 years old, I got a lot of grief from the older guys, Young punk with a brand new truck. The truck I drove did not have the air ride cab. It had spring suspension and rode like a buck board. A friend of mine had the same suspension with the air ride cab. A word of warning if you do not have air ride suspension you can tear a lot of shit up because the cab is so smooth. I’m so glad these old CLT 9000s are popular today. I think it would be really cool to do a little customizing with today’s technology and availability of aftermarket parts. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of this truck. First time on your channel, I’m going to subscribe to keep up-to-date what you’re doing with it.
Yeah Boy...I am so happy for you and for how far you've come. I Pray God's hand over your life and may every mile be blessed throughout your life and the Road ahead. I saw you on another video for the first time this last week and i noticed your commitment to what you do. Stay blessed.
As they say when it rains it pours!! Talk about a fun filled trip you took there!! Geez. Your new rig is bada$$!!! I love those cab overs with the sleeper like that they look so good!!
Sat 7 years 🤔 man that truck is sweet. Great find there, always had a soft spot for those giant cabovers. Quality all the way. UK Trucker waving 🇬🇧 looking forward to more.
Boy , I thought I was the only one all these off the wall issues each trip happened to. Never fails. That K-Whopper looks so cool , and glad that Ford found ya before it was too late to be helped. It has purpose in life again.
Love Ford CLs, and love that factory paint scheme, too. That looks to be in tremendous shape - not that my opinion matters any but hope you simply clean and preserve that gem; there aren't many left like that.
Good looking old cab over , I remember the days when cab overs where king of the road & u would see more cab over then long noses , cant wait to see what u do to er , the bus running so good the windshield couldn't handle it 😂🤣😂🤯 hell of a trip 👍👌
You gotta prime rig there, it's perfect to restore, and you'll have a very nice, rare truck when you're done,😉👍, a CAT with a 13speed, the drive-line is already perfect in that truck.
My Grandpa was a Shop Manager for Memphis White Trucks. I looked at that Ford COE Truck in Hildale/Colorado City for the past 5 years. Then this spring it was gone!!! Glad it found a good home.
I love this! My dad had this same truck but it had no blue pant outside, his “wave” truck was well known. I would have sleep overs with my friends in it when he was home, lol!
Wow, I'm Glad your Channel Popped Up on my Feed. Awesome Content. My only suggestion as an Older Guy is Ease into the Power after your shifts. You're going to get to that next Red Light just as Fast. You'll make up for the Time on the Big Roads. Glad to see that you were willing to bring that Old Ford Back to Life; She was Waiting for You! Stay Safe Hunter.
Keep up the great content Hunter. Your doing great, and I love this video... I have to wonder about a truck that has been sitting in the field for 7-years, and the owner willing to make such a smoking deal to you... Your awsome down't get me wrong, but have to wonder why the owner didn't sell it years ago, and get some of his money back...
wow this thing is awesome. ive always loved cab overs ever since i got to ride in a family friends freightliner FLB, and when i drove a gmc t8500 hauling hay for a living. i hope we get to see more of this truck
Good story telling, Hunter. And when you mention "eventful trip" I was like "Yeah, something normal. Like faulty speedometer, or something" Then; Main ride home needs a engine swap.... "Ok. That not every day stuff. But there is still 3 minutes left of the video??" Then new ride! "Hurray!! :D A ride home!" Not 1 fuel filter, but both needed to be replaced. "Bad luck, I guess, on a old bus" Then the windshield!! "What!?!?" Then the weather... "COME ON!! Give the man a break!!"
Gotta say , as a ex Scania Diesel fitter that when that V8 is in a good state of health the power and torque of those engines is amazing , suggest putting that rig on a Dyno and see how many horses it’s down , get it’s fixed and do your drag test again !
my dad had one, it is true that they have air bags on the cab. he could never depend on the air conditioner for long for the cab flexed so much that it always damaged the AC lines. and the other main problem that he had was that it was spring ride, the frame rails were weak, had to double up the frame and also replace springs often. other than that i can remember that was one of the greatest looking truck at that time, and still looks great to this day. good luck.
I work construction out here in Indiana so I travel all over the state, it’s funny how seeing a cab over truck just catches your eye. I just saw one sitting a couple nweeks ago, although not being a semi guy myself I’m not sure of the make, but still very cool! Looks like you found a real gem!
These trucks are kinda rare in my area. When I was a kid,a distant family member was trucker. Has to be late 70’s,and he had a brown and gold Ford semi. It had the number 9000 between the upper and lower grille (if I remember right). When he was in, I loved going over and looking at that truck.
Many of the old school trucks that have been sitting for years are being resurrected and are back on the road again. You'd be surprised how many will run again with some coaxing. Ford CL-9000. I drove the day cab version of these from 1988-90. The Cat pulled the load very well in the Arizona mountains.
That is an awesome cab over and so very clean and very little rust for a 42 year old truck. I hear you can't take it into California because of the age. I think I heard they have outlawed trucks and busses on the roads older then 1997. I could be mistaken.
Nice price on the CL9! I'm working on trying to buy one here in Idaho but the family are reluctant to let it go since it was their father's pride & joy & he's gone now.
This is the genuine content I want from RUclips. No scripted and dramatized bullshit. Keep it up man

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Cabover! What A crazy drive home, no windshield, not wipers, cold as hell... crazy!
Keep up the great content Hunter. Your doing great, and I love this video... I have to wonder about a truck that has been sitting in the field for 7-years, and the owner willing to make such a smoking deal to you... Your awsome down't get me wrong, but have to wonder why the owner didn't sell it years ago, and get some of his money back...
wow this thing is awesome. ive always loved cab overs ever since i got to ride in a family friends freightliner FLB, and when i drove a gmc t8500 hauling hay for a living. i hope we get to see more of this truck
thumbs up, i like that truck too, i have driven the old White Cab overs, hauling carpet grass for years. love the oldies.
I like how Dave was complaining about not being able to line up that LowBoy easily, and then you (seemed to) just got it in one, gg
Good story telling, Hunter. And when you mention "eventful trip" I was like "Yeah, something normal. Like faulty speedometer, or something" Then; Main ride home needs a engine swap.... "Ok. That not every day stuff. But there is still 3 minutes left of the video??"
Then new ride! "Hurray!! :D A ride home!"
Not 1 fuel filter, but both needed to be replaced. "Bad luck, I guess, on a old bus" Then the windshield!! "What!?!?" Then the weather... "COME ON!! Give the man a break!!"
Ey man, love your videos. No bs, get straight to it. It's awesome. Hoping you're going to do a full resto on the ford
Cool old Ford. Keep us posted on your build / restoration plans…. 💪👍🏼
Gotta say , as a ex Scania Diesel fitter that when that V8 is in a good state of health the power and torque of those engines is amazing , suggest putting that rig on a Dyno and see how many horses it’s down , get it’s fixed and do your drag test again !
What a great find and score! Can’t wait to see that truck shined up like a new penny. Congrats!
What a beautiful Ford..I love the colors .We don't see many cabovers around anymore
I haven't seen a FORD CL9000 since i was about 10 years old. My uncle had one he used for hauling scrap cars to and from his scrapyard! Nice find!
my dad had one, it is true that they have air bags on the cab. he could never depend on the air conditioner for long for the cab flexed so much that it always damaged the AC lines. and the other main problem that he had was that it was spring ride, the frame rails were weak, had to double up the frame and also replace springs often. other than that i can remember that was one of the greatest looking truck at that time, and still looks great to this day.
Florida Man work uniform: shorts, no shirt and sandals. Nice purchase! You look happy!
I will say, awesome job. You managed a lot and got really lucky at what little work you had to do. Awesome find !
Nice price on the CL9! I'm working on trying to buy one here in Idaho but the family are reluctant to let it go since it was their father's pride & joy & he's gone now.
Wow! Amazing truck. I used to work on the Volvo 88 and 89 and they were very nice. Not as big as this but I loved them.
Cool find, looks very rust free. My dad had a '78 with a KTA600 Cummins.
Great video. The cab over looks awesome. That must have been a wild trip back to Utah.
