I don't understand locked-down GMRS radios. I guess they keep you 'legal". Don't you trust yourself with more than eight channels? The power matters most.
I have the Ham Radio Version and GMRS 2 of each they sent me so 4 radios and I have the unlocked Versions and so on great Radio! Must change antenna definitely! Radios work great the App needs some work but it's nice to program on the fly! Tidradio did a great job on thos Radio both radios look alike and it will be on Chirp soon!!!
Are you saying that of the 4 radios you bought, the two Ham versions are unlocked and will transmit on GMRS? Did you buy them from Tidradio direct or though Amazon? Thanks

Two of Favorites are Motorola and VERTEX/YAESU . I call them the Harley Davidsons of Radios. ICOM and KENWOOD are wonderful as well. 73 My Friend DE WQAI363 OR K3JCP
it looks like the display of the QYT KT-8R. 10 watts? there is no way in the world I would want the much power next to my head cooking my brain like an egg. I like using my Yaesu FT5d for GMRS for HT.
Because now that it has been advertised at 10 watts, the unwary will continue to buy them. It's a K5 with a bigger battery, and that somewhat dim display. No Chirp.
I watched another reviewer that tested the transmitted audio quality and it was very low. Have you tested what the radio sounds like on the other end? Thanks for doing this review!
Yes sir... I carried that unit for about 2 months before the release and had no issues. I will say the first thing I did was change the antenna. I let Tidradio know that I was not impressed with the stock antenna. Their response was they would look into it. LOL
@terryshrives8322 if you are on Facebook, our group has several conversations on updating and unlocking the H8. The problem with making a video is Tidradio is still making updates to the firmware so things could change and outdate a video fairly quickly.
I like mine. Just still learning how to use it. Mostly what popular frequency near me. I scan with squelch set on 1 and I haven't got a hit yet. No activity near me unfortunately.

@gregorioskelley1724 oh, 100% I'm glad they have worked out most of the quirks with it. I am hearing lots of feedback about an audio issue that I'm hoping gets fixed soon.
@@Moony_Sky sorry for the delay. We had been playing with one a buddy just got in. It was the ham version and he attached it to the app as the UNLOCK VER and it is kicking all watts AND dual band up into the GMRS freqs.
@@Moony_Sky I've had one viewer test his gmrs models and they were kicking 10. He may have attached them to the app as UNLOCK VER tho. I'm still waiting to hear back from him.

Not all of them... the newer models do. You also have to be sure of you are purchasing one now that they ship you the newer unit with the USB-C port.
I wonder if ICOM KENWOOD MOTOROLA AND VERTEX WILL COME OUT WITH GMRS RADIOS. I really enjoy using Motorolas and Yaesus

You can't download gmrs repeaters via bluetooth😢...
It will have repeater freqs programed, you will have to add the required tones.

With the higher wattage output, yes. If you decide to upgrade the antennas to a higher gain, it's even better.

It is female, so easy to swap with your favorite one! It's a good unit! Very impressed!

In the past, yes. There have been several firmware updates that may have changed that tho.

My go-to antenna is the Wouxun high gain GMRS. Very inexpensive and I've always had great results with it.

Let me see what Tidradio says... I am guessing it's due to being the GMRS model but you should still get full watts on those channels.

That's the Wouxun GMRS tuned high-gain antenna. The last time I bought some they were less than 15 bucks.
Any idea what other radio takes the same battery? How about battery shell for AA batteries and battery eliminator?

How do you get the top set of frequencies to turn on
I don't have my radio with me BUT check either menu 7 or 18. I can't remember which is dual monitoring.

Just read the manual on it says 7 and 18 are dual modes there both on but it still shows on the screen its off when i look at the frequencies

I like it, better then my baofeng uv-5r. I used ODmaster to program it and no problems with the radio

Yeah... I missed it by 24 hours or so.
Amazon is advertising this (gmrs) radio as 5 watts. The ham version is advertised as 10w.
